    Hi Marion! I'm a beginner at oil painting. After watching about 50 TH-cam videos to get some tips and advice, I stumbled upon your channel. I just wanted to say Thank You. I've learned so much from you. I watched a bunch of your vids, and you explain everything in such detail, and you take your time to precisely show what you're doing. You're a great teacher! You've helped me so much already as I struggle to learn more and more. Thanks again and Bless You!

    Hi, Marion, I've not picked up a paint brush in 20 years and I've never had any formal training. I always painted with acrylic because oil frustrated me. I painted this one last week and it turned out beautiful, I wish I could attach a pic here. Thank you for inspiring me to paint again; you and oil have a new fan!

    Marion, I'm fairly new to oil painting. I am in process of painting the Sunflowers in Blue Vase. I've done well up to putting the first layer of petals. I had to stop painting for 3 days. Now I am having trouble, I can't get the paint to flow or to last a full stroke. Should I go back and cover the flowers with the oil again and wipe off? What should one do if they cannot complete the whole painting in one day? As I have told you before, you are a wonderful teacher and a great artist. I admire your talent so. Thank you so much for what you do. Connie Phennel Dallas, Texas

    • @MazArtStudio
      @MazArtStudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      connie pittman yes let it dry fully then re coat in oil. BUT if the paint is still tacky it'll smudge so make sure it is fully fully dry first. I often leave my work to fully dry then re coat in the oil. (It's called oiling out). Hope this helps sorry for the late reply. 😄

    I painted this in acrylics and it was much more difficult but I was pretty pleased with my end product. I showed it to my art teacher and he asked why there is a shadow on the right side of the table. I did not have a good answer for him. Maybe if we could see your reference it would make more sense?

    I just found you and enjoyed your videos about cleaning the brushes with baby oil. I've already purchased some regular oil paints and now found out about water based oils that clean up with water. I'm going to keep on using my regular oils until I run out I guess and then decide whether to switch to water based. My question for you if I may and you could be good enough to answer (since I assume that you use regular oils or the Bob Ross oils) first, how do you THIN the oils then if you don't use paint thinner? Are you using linseed oil? And when you dip the brush in baby oil for a quick clean for changing colors, does this thin the oil paint? By the way, when you beat the brush in the waste can with the lid, why were you concerned about toxic fumes? Without spirits, turp or thinner, where would the toxic fumes be coming from? -- hoping that's not a silly question. I'm new to painting and have just discovered Bob Ross although my daughters have known about him for years. Thanks for answering my questions if you can.

    • @MazArtStudio
      @MazArtStudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      J CH hi there. Don't use the baby oil on your painting at all it's for cleaning only. Yes I use linseed oil to thin if I need to not thinner. Even tho I'm not using thinner the paints are still toxic (all paints are to some degree). So I try to stay as safe as possible. Hope that helps.

    Ha finally my rusty brain worked and I found you again after 4 long years!well the last time I was glued to your videos was in 2014!I went step by step along with you and painted the sunset.it was not perfect but my whole family went ooos and ahas and it's hanging in my living room.a lot of water has flown under the bridge since then.I moved to different techniques styles of paintings,and in the past year doing acrylic pours. Love it but the traditional is always in my heart! So this winter I plan to do these sunflowers however I don't do oils only acrylics and use some oil pastels to liven the painting it can pass off as an oil.I must let u on my secret I could not find a blending brush for the sunset so I flicked my husbands shaving brush! It worked then I went and bought those makeup brushes they worked too
    I love your easy style and planning to follow your techniques
    I want to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH

    You have been a great teacher. I love all of your work and videos. I sadly do not have any black gesso. Any advice on doing this on a white canvas?

    • @MazArtStudio
      @MazArtStudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can follow along ok on white but the impact won’t quite be the same that blue vase looks dramatic on black. It will be very interesting to see it on a white canvas so if you have a go come and share in the MazArt tribe (need to agree to rules first). bit.ly/MazArtTribe

    Hi Marion, just tried painting from this video today. I have never painted flowers or vases before and the techniques I have picked up today really helped me to complete the painting. My flowers were rubbish but I did have problems painting them. I use W&N alkyd oils and had trouble picking up the underpainting of the flowers. Do I need to change to standard oils to make the technique work? I normally paint landscapes. Oh by the way I was really pleased with the way the vase came out. Thank you for the opportunity to see the video. Richard

    • @MazArtStudio
      @MazArtStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is possible that your alkyds dried too fast before you could work wet into wet but I hate to suggest you change if that’s what you are used to using. You could try working quite quickly once you laid down the initial under colour or add a touch extra medium to make it a little more wet? I’d certainly try persevere with what you have rather than buy more.

    • @richardlewisart
      @richardlewisart 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the quick reply Marion. I have some W&N Winton colours which I tried this morning and it certainly improved my petals. I will persevere though with the Alkyds and try painting each flower one at a time rather than doing all of the flower underpainting first.
      Many thanks for your advice, I am now looking at your other videos and am considering signing up. Richard

    Thankyou have learnt a lot of about technique even though I use acrylics they can still be applied. It's also great to hear an English accent most seem to be American or in a totally foreign language so the real explanation goes. You explain everything sooo well.

    Love your work!! I just discovered you, but I am an acrylic painter so I'm a little hesitant to try these. If I use the extender medium to slow my drying time, as suggested in another of your videos, can I get similar results with my acrylics? Also, how much is 12.99 in US dollars? Thank you so much!!

    • @MazArtStudio
      @MazArtStudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marianne Keller hi YES that'll with a treat. And about 16 dollars I think. But google will know better. 😃
