Brilliant video yet again, thanks Kevin. I loved how they sounded. Not the last word in fidelity, but certainly competitive up to quite a high price point. Youngsters/beginners looking to get into the hobby need to trawl the charity stores and online for items like this. You can obtain superb audiophile-grade sound for very, very little investment. A wonderful platform to build from.
@@dittonworks I can't speak for the other Celestion speakers but these seem to have the same kind of presence as Castle Acoustic speakers. Why does no one ever review those?
@@cremersalex one of the first decent speakers I ever heard were castle 🏰 owned by my uncle. I’d review a pair if they turned up at the right price. Obviously I can’t keep or review everything. I’ll Keep an eye out for a pair. Castle were one of the only companies to build and design everything in house. Any recommendations?
@@dittonworks A few years ago I blindly purchased their beautiful looking 'Warwick' models in almost mint condition for only 70 Euro. They are very impressive for singing voices (male and female) and instruments like saxophone and guitar. Incredible clarity but probably somewhat on the brighter side (you need to keep the grilles on and don't toe them in) and a bass response that sadly rolls off a bit too early. Those are the only Castle speakers I have heard. Their floorstanders called 'Severn' do pop up regurlarly on auction sites for next to nothing (between 100 and 200 Euro) but never in my neighbourhood. I did read that Castle Acoustics have a distinct house sound so I guess the difference between most of their speakers will not be that great. I'm also very curious to hear their new Knight 2 but those are made in China (IAG) and not the 'real' Castle speakers.
@@dittonworks I am using a pair of Castle Harlechs (large floor standers) in my main set up - room size 14 x 30. I’m very happy with the sound they produce. Full range with plenty of base, probably too much for a smaller room. Was holding out for a pair of Castle Howard’s but, old as they are, still go for very high prices on EBay £500 +. Previous speakers Mission 783s which were great but died - well documented design flaw with the mid range unit. Castle speakers definitely warmer than the missions which is no bad thing - easier on the ear for sustained listening. (Supporting equipment, Quad 99 / 909 Cambridge cxn v2 & Audiolab 6000 cdt)
Hi what would you say are your favourite celestion speakers I have had the 44s and 25s I liked the 25s great power , I will pick up the 66s at some point also where are you based in the uk
They sounded pretty nice here, bass did not sound that lacking, top end sounded nice. You got a real bargain. Thanks Kevin
