Great video! You should consider adding a link to each of the components in the description.

Brownell's has the Howa H 308 actions on sale right now for $309. Love Brownell's

I probably won't build one anytime soon but I do enjoy these videos. Cool stuff

I built the same rifle in 6.5 creedmoor using an IOR optic. It's as easy as the video shows. Getting everything set up right for my self takes a bit more work. It shoots sub minute right away.

10 years to save up for all the parts, 10 min to assemble and shoot 😂😂

I almost went this route. I went with a Savage 10ba stealth. MDT chassis, good barreled action and trigger, ar buffer tube stock, threaded barrel, and the barrel is fluted so its tacticool.
I went with a far more modest Nikon fx1000 6-24 moa scope.
But I definitely priced this build out... when I saw a brand new 10ba stealth for $900 I couldn’t pass. Just the mdt chassis and barreled action cost that, then I’d need scope mount and stock.

This Howa action in a KRG Bravo stock, that is only recently available, would be mint!

Does the MDT chassis allow the use of Legacy Sports magazines for the Howa Short Action? Thank you

I built mine the other day just like this. This chassis, the MDT LSS, uses accuracy international magazines, not an internal one.

Nobody disputes the quality of Nightforce scopes, but if you are limited in funds they wouldn’t be your first choice. I won’t advocate another brand, if you’re doing this you already have your preference. I would suggest considering the XLR chassis as an alternative to the MDT. OpticsPlanet has the Element model for the Howa 1500 at $400 without a grip or stock, and they offer far more options. A2 or M4 stock without an adapter, and a trigger guard big enough for gloves but not as oversized as the MDT (where you can slip off the trigger because it’s so wide). It’s just a better chassis in every way including appearance.

Scope option with a lot of value for the money:
BURRIS 4-20X50 XTR II ILLUM G2B MILDOT RET FFP XT100
      $900-$950

    • @caseyjoanz
      @caseyjoanz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

bemyers123 - I never hear about Burris ever disappointing anyone, and getting magnification above 20X begins to affect sight picture stability for me. Every optic has an advocate; I don’t mention mine because someone will point out a weak point that’ll start to bother me. All the same features as the Burris, similar price range, but if someone starts griping about it, saying I need a better $900 -$1,000 scope might cost me a 47 year marriage. I’m getting tight groups at 500yds.(1”). I don’t need to hear how sloppy that is. But I think about it.

Sure, there are a number of optics in the $500-$600 price range that’ll get the job done. Glass is important and it is said (rule of thumb) that it’s going to roughly account for 50% of the build price. I can’t justify spending over $600 on a rifle and not spending as much or more on glass. With that being said, a budget is healthy and it can get the job done. I just purchased a $1,000 rifle and the Burris is what I’m using.

    • @caseyjoanz

bemyers123 - I agree, and I own a Burris scope I’m very happy with. A different kind of scope for a different kind of rifle. They’re definitely quality scopes. The $1,000 I spent isn’t a lot when you’ve invested in building an accurate rifle. But I spent that money, and I don’t want to spend it again. I researched it, it’s got FFL focus w/illuminated mil dot in MRAD increments, but my one gripe is that the eye relief is really unforgiving.
The range officer where I shoot is an ex-Marine sharpshooter, and I took his recommendation when I bought it. He feels the tight eye relief ensures consistency and he can shoot tighter groups than me with my own gun. But I can’t think of a $600 scope that I’d seriously consider for what I’m trying to do. At this point, it ain’t the scope. I have a two pound Timney trigger, but I still haven’t mastered trigger control or even proper the breathing technique. I keep halting my exhale at the point where I know I’ve reached trigger break; it’s harder to overcome than it sounds if you aren’t trying to unlearn bad habits. But if you really love shooting, you can go on about it indefinitely. You never “get there”, you just keep getting better.

I’m using the same Howa action as the guy in the video (6.5 Creedmoor). I started with an MDT chassis, but with my second build I went with XLR, and the difference was significant enough that I switched out the MDT.

HoWieS HoUsE well I can guarantee you one thing, that scope was the most expensive thing on that build. That scope is 3000.00 but worth every penny.

Without optic it’s like 1600 maybe a little less

    • @KTMcaptain

Barreled action about $330. MDT chassis is $500 from MDT. Luth stock $160. Rail is $60.
      About $1k for the rifle

Why are you guys being deceptive by selling this chassis with an image on your website displaying it having 6 MLOK slots (long) and showing this video of the chassis with 6 MLOK slots, but selling it with only 5 slots making it shorter?

Assemble budget Howa rig and top off with night force optic.
If your buying a Howa it’s because like most you couldn’t afford a night force optic.........
