I had a Smith & Wesson 1500 in .222Rem about 30 years ago. I think it was called a "Varminteer" model. It had the slickest action I've ever run a bolt on. It was like a greased ice cube on a sheet of glass.
I have built two guns just like you described. Both with KRG Bravo stocks. First gun was 24 in. heavy barrel .308, second was 26 in heavy barrel 6.5 CM. First time at the range they both shot better than .8 MOA using Federal Gold Metal Match. Currently working on hand loads for both of them. So far .308 is liking the Hornady 178 ELD-M with Varget powder. The 6.5 is liking several bullets, 142 SMK, and 147 Hornady ELD-M. Working with several powders for the 6.5 H-4350, Hybrid 100-V, and IMR-4451. Can't wait to see how your gun shoots. Keep up the good work.
0.8 MOA (assuming a 5 shot group at a target 100 yd away) is nothing to boast about, especially if was shot by heavy barrel varmint/target/tactical style bolt action rifle using premium match ammo.
@@jonzie1228 - I don't mean to badmouth the Howa 1500. All the heavy barrels shoot groups no larger than .50 MOA with premium factory match ammo. With fine tuned match ammo that I reloaded, the groups are even smaller at 0.25 to 0.35 MOA.
I purchased the exact same barreled action and put it in a oryx chassis topped with a vortex pst and it's a tack driver! Only been out to 500yd with it but was shooting sub moa at 500.
Smith & Wesson 1500 rifles back in the 80s were sold with Howa barrels. I still have my beautiful 1500 Deluxe in .270 and it will shoot 1-inch groups or less all day long. But back then the trigger group was not removable or adjustable.
Nice to see Howa actions back in stock at Brownells - after disappearing for over 2 years in the marketplace! You can buy almost every caliber except 6mm ARC (always sold out). Now if Howa would only make actions in 7mm WSM or SAUM!
I have a howa 243 heavy barrel that I put in a Bell & Carlson stock. Shoots amazing. Best factory rifle ever.... really sucks they seem to be slowly discontinuing these barreled actions.
Sorry for leaving that out. Yes 6.5CM. I recently shot a 2.6” group with same rifle at 460 yards. Approx 900rnds down the tube and still very strong. Love Howa.

I'm just getting mine together. 26" 6.5 CM, Boyd stock with lots of modifications, Vortex 6-24 scope, 20 MOA rail, I also have the 0 MOA for shorter range shooting. I just epoxy bedded the action this morning, can't wait for the epoxy to set so I can get to refinishing the wood.
Awesome! I’ve been eyeing a Howa Barreled action from Brownells for years! Depending on how this goes, I may just finally “pull the trigger” on one! 👍🏼 Can’t wait for more of this series!
Hi Gavin I have a howa in 6.5 and felt the trigger to be too heavy after talking to my local gun Smith he said you can remove one of the adjusting screws for the trigger and replace the factory spring with a lighter one . I did this and it made a world of difference. Best group to date was .330 with 123gr lapua bullets. Howa barreled actions are great .
The Howa is a great action to rebarrel for a accurate gun build I have re barreled several of them. They do not need any action trueing the machining on them is excellent and true and straight. And most gunsmiths in the US don't like to cut metric threads but it is very simple if you understand how to cut metric threads on a English Lathe. You cant beat them for the amount they sell for.

Thanks for the video series. I watched the follow up as well? I waffled between the 6.5 CM and 6mm CM and decided on the 6mm for less recoil and better shot follow up. So with my Howa 1500 in 6mm CM with factory ammo, what do you feel the minimum barrel length is (shooting suppressed) without sacrificing accuracy and complete burn? Have you done any work up? New hunter here, primarily hunting whitetail deer in pa. Been looking for “budget friendly” entry level rifles. Looked at Ruger American, savage to T/C compass and now howa 1500 specifically the last two because of their many features. However, I’ve heard hogue stocks on howa aren’t great but these opinions are from competitive shooters. Question is this: what stock should I buy with the howa 1500 barreled action for accurate 1-2 shot performance for hunting? Or would the included hogue stocks work just fine?
I know this reply is a year late but I think the hogue stocks are fine for hunting. Not sure what ranges you're normally shooting at deer but 200 yd would be a pretty long shot where I'm at in Michigan. Realistically I don't see myself taking any shots over 150 yd. And at those ranges accuracy gains from your stock aren't really going to add up to much in the real world.
I have a Howa mini action rifle in their cheap factory stock. I love it! It shoots surplus and other Russian ammo MOA or less. I like the design and function of the rifle action. I would buy another Howa before I’d even think about Savage or Remington. With that said, Brownell’s want too much for a barreled action, especially when it it not blues or finished well. I’ll pass.
Hey, Gavin, interesting choice on the 6mm Creed. Are you intending on trying some of the new Hornady A-tip bullets? In this case, the 110gr 243 projectiles?
Possibly, but I know how those perform Plus, even if it's a pricey one, another option is good, since a given rifle could heavily prefer one particular bullet.
@Dave Patterson I really like the RDFs. In 223 and 308 they are very forgiving, at least in my experience. And given Hornady's semi-recent fixation on mapping ballistics, I'm confident those drag numbers are at least sufficiently close, and if that's the case, this could be exciting. And no hard feelings, the .50 cal AMAXs are basically an A-tip, as they have an aluminum tip, too, so at least there's precedence for a misunderstanding.

My brother built up one last year in 7.62x39 with a Boyd's stock. 1/2 moa all day with my loads, 123 grain FMJ's over H335. Probably could do better with a worked up loading. Not the prettiest action, but excellent where it counts - trigger and barrel.

I don't like the 6.5CM because the twist is too slow at 1/8 and it's based on an obscure parent case of the 30TC, prefer my 6.5REM custom 28" 1/7 barrel. So hearing that you're getting a 1/7½ twist with the 6.0CM is sounding like an improvement over the 6.5!

They're cool but if you buy the base model Howa 1500 and sell the stock on eBay you'll probably come out ahead versus just buying the bare barreled action.
The idea of offering a barreled action is great! It should be though, in a more popular caliber, and if you want a 6mm cartridge, it should be the .243 Winchester. After all, who doesn't like the venerable .243 Win? So you offer the .243 Win. in a fast twist barrel, say 1-8, or 1-9, and you can stabilize the heaviest of bullets, it's ballistically superior to the Creadmore cartridge, and there is a ready supply of brass and all other necessary components already on hand. Oh wait, I get it this is how the firearms companies can sell more stuff to us that we really don't need. Silly old me for thinking they have any agenda other than making money!
Brownells has you covered, for the HOWA 1500 barreled actions: 243 WIN #2 BARRELED ACTION STANDARD BARRELBLUE 243 WIN #1 BARRELED ACTION LW CERAKOTE GRAY
And 6mm has some big differences compared to 243 Win: 30 degree shoulder (compared to 20), shorter base-to-datum length for longer high-BC bullets. Shoot what you like! I like the enhancements that 6mm Creed offers.
'Brownells worked closely with Howa to offer the barrelled action'.........Howa have offered barrelled actions worldwide for ages, Brownells did nothing more than order them lol
I dont get why you would spend that much on a gun, I bought a savage 7.62x51 for 350 dollars, I added a scope, sling and bipod it set me back about 475 dollars and I've had the gun for about ten years and I've taken deer with it at about 300 yards, I've taken silhouette targets at about 500 yards ( my eyes are getting old) I just dont see the purpose of buying a higher end rifle with expensive ammo that's hard to get. If there are any positives about buy such a rifle I would love to hear about them. Great video, I like hearing about the shooting sports.

Directly from Delta!
Gavin I have heard that these are transferred as a receiver/other, not as a rifle. This would mean you would have to be 21+ years of age to pick one up. Can you confirm this?
Just got a Howa 6.5 Creedmoor 24" Heavy Barreled action from Brownells.com, putting it on a MDT ESS full rail. Can't wait to see how your build turns out!
how does it shoot a year later still happy?
In standard calibers you are better off buying a weatherby vanguard and replacing the stock. Same Howa barrel and action for much less than Brownells.
Nice, what kind of prices are you seeing? does it have the HACT trigger?
@@Ultimatereloader I just looked on Wetherby's website I am seeing $599 to $1299 for 6.5 Creedmoor in their Vanguard Series. It states that it has an: "Adjustable Match Quality, Two-stage Trigger" do not know if it is the HACT trigger or not.
Here is the link to the page for the one that is $599:
www.weatherby.com/products/rifles/vanguard/vanguardr-select.html
The calibers you can choose from are:
.243 Win, 6.5 Creedmoor, .270 Win, 7mm Rem Mag, .308 win, .30-06 Sprg. and .300 Win. Mag.
Maybe I missed it, but have you done any shooting with this rifle and posted accuracy results?
Yes! Search HOWA on my channel and you'll see that I got bad results until I rebarreled, then ~0.25 MOA gun....
@@Ultimatereloader Thanks. That's funny. So if a I buy a barreled action and do a build to save money, the first thing I should do is rebarrel and it will be sub-MOA. I guess I'll buy a finished Christensen Arms to start and it will work from Day 1... :) :) :)

Ive re subscribed about 3 times in the past month... youtube is playing games with you...
These look freaking cool. Now to decide, barreled howa action and find a stock, or just grab one of their hogue stock 1500s. I like Howa.
My howa shot well with the standard hogue stock. I wouldn't have changed it, but I was not a fan of the wrist angle, and comb height.
Do i have to have a license to order a barreled action from them?
My brother built up one last year in 7.62x39 with a Boyd's stock. 1/2 moa all day with my loads, 123 grain FMJ's over H335. Probably could do better with a worked up loading. Not the prettiest action, but excellent where it counts - trigger and barrel.
i want this in the 6 arc
Is the bolt knob threaded?
No, I wish it was - I'd put a ball on there (spherical black)
I just got a 6.5CM heavy bbl, and the knob is threaded. I'm thinking of what I can do there to make mine "different".
RapidRrobert ya everyone I talk to that’s .308 or 6.5 said it’s threaded. I got one in 6.5 creed in a krg bravo chassis. It’s threaded and cerakote fde.
I have an APC Chassid Howa1500 in 308, 👍👍
I love mine
Why don’t you build off a Winchester 70 bolt action are a Remington
Did you see my 22-250 rebarrel? (Winchester Model 70) love those rifles. But I wanted to try something different. :)
Sure didn’t I check it out now
Do you think you will ever going to build rifles in the next few years if the person buy of the parts I would love to have a 308 win in the Winchester bolt action 30/06 sprfld in the Winchester bolt action and a 300 WM in the Winchester bolt action the parts I want to buy is Timothy trigger hart barrel Accurate innovations gun stock 🍺🥃❤️👍💣🇺🇸✝️
I don't like the 6.5CM because the twist is too slow at 1/8 and it's based on an obscure parent case of the 30TC, prefer my 6.5REM custom 28" 1/7 barrel. So hearing that you're getting a 1/7½ twist with the 6.0CM is sounding like an improvement over the 6.5!
do they have a left handed action?
That's a big Negative, they ignore that percentage of shooters.
Can I have the stock you threw away? Please?
Good info
No bore guide...🤔
🇺🇸
Hey Mrgunsngear!
G man great video
Thanks Lee!
I put a krg on mine
not available in brownells european branches :(
Sauer S100 Fieldshoot in .223! To bad they only import the 6.5 junker! My customer gunsmith built "26. .25-06 just puts 6.5 to shame! Hahaha
What’s the weight of the barreled action and the total inside the KRG? Thx
They're cool but if you buy the base model Howa 1500 and sell the stock on eBay you'll probably come out ahead versus just buying the bare barreled action.
How in the hell does this video have dislikes?
Chris Henson haters got to hate🤔
Brownells has you covered, for the HOWA 1500 barreled actions:
243 WIN #2 BARRELED ACTION STANDARD BARRELBLUE
243 WIN #1 BARRELED ACTION LW CERAKOTE GRAY
And 6mm has some big differences compared to 243 Win: 30 degree shoulder (compared to 20), shorter base-to-datum length for longer high-BC bullets. Shoot what you like! I like the enhancements that 6mm Creed offers.
And 6mm Creedmoor has a MUCH tighter freebore tolerance which makes it less jump sensitive, and less sensitive to other reloading factors. :)
Buy a howa action and build a weatherby, im to lazy to do that so would just buy a vanguard.
👍
'Brownells worked closely with Howa to offer the barrelled action'.........Howa have offered barrelled actions worldwide for ages, Brownells did nothing more than order them lol
Haha- they actually have an exclusive deal to offer them in the US. :)
No more HB 300 mags! Wtf?
The Howa 1500 would be better off of they designed it with a 60° bolt.
MDT is not inexpensive
Old timers took a stock BDL, threw a 4 power scope on it and killed animals at 800 plus yards...... what has happened to us as the human race?
Well, Remington went to total shit. So that’s one thing that’s happened.
There are a LOT of compelling rifles out there, including old ones, no?
Why do all these people by these silly new cartridges are just as good as the old ones you just bought a 243 😴
Are you going to be able to show it all without TH-cam whipping your ass..?
I sure hope so :)
I need to compare notes with you on the Delta 5-50 scope!
gavintoobe let’s catch up soon.
That bravo is such an ugly stock though 🤦🏻♂️. I can’t. The Howa actions though have to be THE most underrated action.
You shouldn't just throw the old stock away, sell it, use that to further you're build.
