    All solid 10 year options and glad that these are the four in this so that nothing wildly rare and obscenely expensive could skew the comparison and relatability to what you were tasting. I still want to pick up a bottle of Widow Jane, but it is the most pricey of these 4 and I haven't yet had the chance to try it. I've wanted to do my own 10yr blind, but would have to include Tin Cup 10 in place of WJ. I wish there were more 10 yr options in the market that were readily available.

    Great show, guys! I had the Eagle Rare 10 at an airport bar as we were leaving Louisville, last year. I remember thinking I should have picked up a bottle (along with all the rest I bought.) Fortunately, it came on sale here just before Christmas for $32, so I stocked up. I've had a couple Widow Janes, including the Decadence, but not the 10. Here in WA state, it's $100, including tax.

    I did a 10 yr blind and rated them from 1st to last respectively: Eagle Rare, McKenna 10, Russel Reserve 10, Widow Jane 10. ER gets a lot of hate but it will surprise people in a blind. The hate probably comes from it being allocated with inflated prices but I get them 28/bottle in Cali quite often

    Paid $70 for the Widow Jane. First pour I was so disappointed. The finish was bitter with an unpleasant after taste. After sitting on shelf for a few weeks, I gave it another try. Totally different bourbon someone had put into my bottle. Each and every subsequent pour was better than the last. I called BS on the neck pour aphorism (yes Trent, this was for you) but I can sincerely say with candor that it's the absolute truth!

    Great show as always guys. It just made me realize that bourbon prices over here in Europe just don't make sense. I just bought Bulleit 10 for €29.99, Eagle Rare 10 for €31.99, Rare Breed for €39.99, Templeton 10 single barrel for €64.99 and Templeton Barrel Strength for €51.99, and I hear both of those Templetons are also a lot more expensive in the US. Plus we just got Remus Repeal VI (I doubt we received more than a pallet's worth considering how fast they sell out everywhere, even though bourbon is not very big here) that I was able to get for €85. I was also very surprised to hear Bulleit 10 is already $50 in the US, yikes.

    • @nathanjackson8356
      @nathanjackson8356 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ohio prices for these bottles are Eagle Rare-$40, Russels-$43, Bulleit-$47, and Widow Jane-$75. Templeton 10yr is $90, and the remus repeal vi is $110. In the US prices vary on the state. I pick up some bottles from Kentucky considering I live only 45 minutes to an hour from the Kentucky Ohio border.

    • @mcw2553
      @mcw2553 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well you have to know where to look, and similar to the US where it depends on the state, it very much also depends on the country here in Europe. In general most spirits shops either don't stock American spirits or when they do, it's the very basic stuff that's always available from the importer. We hardly ever get any single casks unless it's bottled specifically for an importer - how I'd love to try an Old Forester cask strength or one of those Four Roses barrel proofs without having to pay an arm and a leg for one at auction! However because American spirits are not very big yet over here (I'm in Belgium myself) and IF the release does make it over here, I can get pretty much all of them at reasonable prices. But again: the selection and general availability is very spotty, so don't think you can find Blanton's or Michter's Toasted on every shelf!!

    Great episode guys. I only have the ER and RR in my collection so I can't speak to the WJ and Bulleit, but I prefer ER. The RR10 has a bit of harsh note on my palate, and I'm a big Wild Turkey fan. (As an aside, I recently did a side-by-side between RR10 and RR13 and the 13 was far and away the better pour in my opinion.) If you get the chance, try widow Jane the vaults. It's fantastic! Also, along the lines of 10 year age stated, might I recommend trails end 10 year. I haven't seen it in Indiana but stumbled across it on a trip to Texas. I rolled the dice on it and am glad I did. 10 year mgp, around 105 proof, follows the Oregon trail (or so the label says) and then is finished with local wood in Washington State, for only around $50. I can't say I'd hunt it but if I saw it again I'd buy another bottle.

    Outstanding as always! You two are the best. I had to have a dram of Russell's 10 yr after this one. Keep up the great work.

    I have had the Eagle Rare 10, and I thought it was superb. It is allocated in AL, so I’m not able to run down the street and buy it as-wanted. The Widow Jane is on my “need-to-try”.

    Good video, thank you. Unless im missing something, it doesn't seem to matter if you put a letter up since you edit the video after the fact. Seems you would have to write on a whiteboard during the show. Appreciate you guys.

    Great video! I look at it this way. I cannot get Eagle Rare anywhere. And I'd rather have 2 RR than one WJ. Just my opinion.
    Cheers!

    Looking forward to finding a bottle of Widow Jane. I enjoy the other 3 and they taste great for their price points.

    Loving these Whiskey Wars. I think Kurt should still get the points for getting them right.
    We’ve been thinking about picking up the Widow Jane…will have to pick it up next time we see it.

    Eagle Rare is delicious. Hard to find and inflated in these parts but always like to have it on the shelf.

    No spoilers, but Kurt's top bottle often surprises me in 10yr blinds as well. Cannot argue with top 2. Prob my fav 10yr is Rebel 10.
