I LOVE "you are the consumer so get what you like". Not pushing an agenda just putting your thoughts out there. THAT is why we're all here brothers!!

My sentiment, exactly. It is our money, so we are the final judges on what we like. Everyone has different things they like. If you like it and it falls within your budget, get it. WT101 is something that the wife won't object to at that price point. I've had more expensive Bourbons that didn't give me the same Price-Value Ratio as WT101. It is nice to splurge, now and then, but for an everyday drinker, WT101 is fine.

Kurt just said he got bottles of kentucky spirit that werent so good. I have a russells single barrel store pick thats not all that great. Especially for $82-83. Spot on reviews. For me, Rare Breed is the best value in bourbon. Period. It competes with (and is often better than) bottles 2-3x it’s price. WT101 is a staple everyone should have. It’s one of the best bottles under $30. I have a store pick of Russels SB and it’s excellent, although maybe not as high a value as the Rare Breed and 101.

Great Video. I love your distillery reviews.
Of the seven bourbons reviewed, I am unclear as to which you would drink regardless of cost. Which one of these is your favorite?
I'm 70 years old. Grew up in New Orleans when the legal drinking age was 18. I did not develop a taste for "sippin" bourbon "neat", until my youngest son gave me a bottle of Jefferson's reserve (very small batch) for my 65th birthday. At this point in my life I want to find the best bourbons out there for my taste. So I watch this type of video to try to glean what I might REALLY like.
Since trying my 65th birthday present and discovering the wonderful complex tastes of bourbon "neat"; I have watch various videos discussing the various aspects of many bourbons.
The way you do it is as if you and I are sitting at your bar discussing and sharing bourbons. I like that.
Looking forward to more Distillery review videos.
That Buffalo Trace bourbon that can be seen behind you at your left elbow . . . . . is my current favorite of all bourbons. It is hard to get here in north Georgia.

The answer to your title question is, of course, "Yes." Same with "Is Old Forester worth the money?" Yes.
I find WT to have a very straight-ahead bourbon profile and OF to have a sweeter, creamier profile. I have been drinking a 50/50 blend of WT101 and OF100 for a while now, a crushable sipper with the best of both worlds. Longbranch filtered through Mesquite wood in keeping with the Hollywood actor's Texas nexus. @ $40, no way, but my liquor emporium bit tha hook and it literally rained L.B. in their store. Markdowns, I say price reductions quickly ensued as no gudgeons were buying , consequently I moved in for tha kill. Albeit, low proof, but nevertheless @ $24 bucks a pleasant easy sipping dram that comes to the palate with an unusual taste for a bourbon. Not everybody's jam certainly, but I have to admit I stocked up per the price point on this Hollywood driven sip.

WT101 is one of my favorite bourbons almost regardless of price. One of the problems with WT101, IMO, is the standard it sets for comparison against their other products. RR10 almost suffers for being $12 extra for 11 fewer proof points. But compared to Eagle Rare, the price seems right. I really like both. I love RRSiB, especially the store picks. This will seem like heresy, but WTRB drinks too hot for me (I don’t typically drink above 110 Pf). Even ice cubes don’t make it right for me. The toughest to justify is WTKS. I have tasted a couple that were not exciting. But my favorite store had a Warehouse A store pick a couple years ago. I bought a bottle because they are my favorite pickers. At first, difficult to justify compared to WT101. But as I go through the bottle, I kept noticing how much I was enjoying it. Fortunately, I snagged the last bottle from that barrel. I am nursing it along for special occasions. Only sorry there weren’t more to buy.

The main thing is drink the bottles you enjoy. I will readily admit I'm a proof-hound... but personally I prefer a GOOD Russels Reserve Single Barrel to Rare Breed if given the choice... but realize I have NO issue with enjoying a nice Stagg Jr. at 131 proof or Bardstown Discovery in the upper 120's... neat. Higher proof is NOT for everybody, and the whole point is to find some juice you enjoy at a level that you love.

I have to go back to Russell's Reserve 10 year. For me my ranking would be 1) Rare Breed 2) WT 101 3) Russell's Reserve (especially the picks) 4) Kentucky Spirit turkey tail bottlings. Last time I had that one it was from 2015 and it was hot n spicy.

The bottle of Kentucky spirit I just got is from warehouse B and it’s ok. I didn’t realize it’s the same proof point as regular 101 so from now on I’m sticking to rare breed. I don’t care how good warehouse E is 😂

Would you ever have preferences on a bourbon to have in an Old Fashioned or other mixed drink as opposed to neat?

    • @slbdrinks
      @slbdrinks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Boy that’s a good question. I usually use lower priced bottles for mixing but there are times I mix 50.00 bottles in a cocktail that I feel the flavor profile is spot on.

You gotta SIP the single barrel to enjoy it. I’m so used to guzzling down alcohol….sad to say. But man, if you pour just enough in your mouth to cover your pallet, you get some real rich flavors.

Thanks for taking one for the Team and doing this video ;-) I have not had the "Longbranch," "Kentucky Spirit" or the "Russel's Single Barrel" yet, although I have them on my list to eventually add to my collection. The rest I completely agree with your opinions of and do enjoy, especially the Rare Breed. And, while not a "bourbon," the Wild Turkey 101 Rye is awesome too. I think I will be taking the Longbranch and the Kentucky Spirit off my list, as the money could be better spent on other bottles. Thanks!
