    i had a hammer break on my henry ar-7 after about 5000 rounds had been put through it. emailed the company to let them know i was using it as a plinker so i wanted to buy the hammer as it wasn't covered in the warranty cause it's just a wear and tear issue, i also said in the email i wanted to buy a couple other springs and parts that i thought might be wearing out soon as well. they just asked me my address and 3 days later i received a package with 50 dollars in replacement parts for free. great company and will be a lifelong consumer of their products

      bryan queen I had a sight get messed up squirrel hunting one day and I contacted them online and dealt with a guy named Kevin. He was great to deal with and I had my parts in a timely manner and they were super professional. Some guys don’t like them cause they aren’t original 19th century designs but hell they are just plain fun. Haters gonna hate. Shot 10,000 rounds through mine in 12 years and probably only had a couple feed issues.

    Not only do Henry have good rifles, but they're customer service is outstanding in my experience. Having a great customer service department is IMO just as important as having a great initial product.

    Love Henry's! I have the 001 in 22LR and it's 22 WMR counterpart. Great rifles, and excellent value. AND...you should be wearing hearing protection. You said 130 decibels was safe? No...that's the verge of pain. Prolonged exposure over 70-80 db does damage. Take if from a 55 year old rock-n-roller and longtime shooter/hunter. Protect your ears.

      in terms of fun-factor, do you prefer the 22lr or the wmr? i'm trying to decide between the two (purely plinking fun with this one)

    Nice demo. The Henry lever .22's are really making a name for themselves.
    Anyone else notice that the octagonal barreled gun was a little quieter than the round barrel gun?
    About a pound heavier, but personally, I think I'd enjoy the extra heft and noise reduction of the octagon barrel model.

  • @thundercell13
    @thundercell13 7 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    That’s why if you get the octagon barrel, you swap out the sights for skinner peep sight and hooded front sight. That heavier barrel makes it a tack driver.

    • @thundercell13
      @thundercell13 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Unknown User both my skinner peep site and the hooded front site for mine use dovetail

    I love these little lever actions, but the squirrels and rabbits sure don't.

    A friend of mine has been a gunsmith for about 30 years and while talking about guns one day he told me that he just realized that nobody had ever brought a Henry in for repairs that wasn't broken by misuse. He then bought a few lever action Henry's within the next month. These aren't my opinions, just what he told me.

    • @jonathanblack1416
      @jonathanblack1416 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just watched a video by lucky gunner about reliability of lever actions and what he spoke made sense saying how many dang parts and screws they all have and if any little part fails then it all fails and to diagnose what part is the problem can be difficult. I ran across this video looking into the 357/38 big boy X modern lever action from Henry. I really want it for big out but now I’m not so sure.
      I love that it has side gate loading. I wish my golden boy 22 had that feature.

    • @frankyg2384
      @frankyg2384 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@jonathanblack1416 Buy the X model if you come across a good deal, you won't be disappointed, I have the 44 magnum/Special version, also the reason they don't make 22's with loading gates is because the way they operate and also the way the ammo is constructed you would probably damage the round by bending the cartridge where the bullet meets the case mouth, would be cool if they could figure out how to do it, also the ammo is tiny so it would maybe be a pain in the butt to push it through a loading gate.

    I own the Iver Johnson made version of this gun. Back before Henry started making them. Mine was made in West Germany and is by far my favorite gun I own. Many squirrels have graced a skillet thanks to my Iver. Such a sweet shooter!

    I received a Henry H001 basic lever carbine for Christmas four years ago... After a few hours of shooting 5.56mm or getting beat up on the shotgun combat range, it is great fun to take out the Henry and just plink with it. Great little gun for not very much money. Quality, value and the best customer service in the industry has made me a devoted fan of Henry Repeating Arms. Thanks for the video, gents.

    I'm very proud of Henry making a beautiful lever gun in the US. Of the several .22 rifles I own the octo-barrel brass receiver Henry is the most accurate for sure. An absolute pleasure to shoot. I never thought of making fruit salad using a .22 but I'm sure gonna try it!

    I have the Henry Golden Boy .22LR and I just love the smooth action. It’s beautiful to look at and fun to shoot and not expensive to have a bit of fun shooting with. Yes, it is heavy, and I really begin to feel it after about a half hour of continuous shooting. The Buckhorn sights do take a bit of getting used to, but that just comes with practice.

    I bought a round barrel Henry new from a shop about a year ago, and the stock was cracked. Henry replaced it with no questions asked period. The owner called them and said " yeah this is so and so and we've got a rifle here with a cracked buttstock" ! Immediately he asked for address and stock color. He said it will be there tomorrow. And they overnighted it also I was blown away. Great customer service!

    At approximately the 4:22 mark you talked about adding a optic to this rifle and you mentioned how you prefer them without due to weight. I agree with you totally. However, I'd add that due to the look and the fact they are lever actions, leave the optics off. Keep them nostalgic. I love my Henry

  • @fuge74
    @fuge74 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I own the rounded barrel version, great versatile gun. the gun was "lolipop" ready out of the box, easy cleaning/take-down. operates on a scaled "cowboy" leaver-system which is basically just the leaver and bolt with no funny lift-gate system.
    I would suggest the henry-hop method of reloading place the gun upside down with the butt resting near or on the ground, muzzle in your hand, and rifle between your legs. pull the follower almost all the way out, then feed the rounds with your free hand from a belt or pocket.
    I normally pair it with my .22 Heritage Rough Rider sporterized sights single action army revolver with the .22lr cylinder.
    this is cool because originally the henry rifle and colt single action army fired the same round (.45 colt) and cowboys would carry both based on how long their shot was or for a NY reload.

    Anything above 80 db can damage hearing with constant exposure. 120 db is police siren loud and that's really bad for your hearing over time. I have tinnitus and I'd say don't risk it. Wear hearing protection even with a .22 because you don't want tinnitus. If you have to go without hearing protection use a suppressor + subsonics or shorts. And even then be careful. Permanently damaging your hearing is not worth it.

      timberjack460 17hmr and 22MAG (not 22lr) are very much alike, 17hmr is flatter shooting and much faster.. 22mag is slower but hits harder.. to an extent.. 17hmr is moving so fast that it basically explodes on impact, small bullet high velocity will do that.. where as the 22mag will hit and go through due to heavy bullet and decent velocity.. just preference I guess

    These Henry .22 lever actions have got to be THEE smoothest operating lever rifles I have ever used. Yes, I've done a comparison at a dealer, so I bought the Henry.
    Eric mentioned that he likes to use the buckhorn sights, and while they are good, my eyes need the help of a red dot sight or a scope.
    I liked this H001, so I also bought a Henry Big Boy in .357,...now that's a fun rifle Too.

    I have one of the basic round barrel Henrys, and the thing is an absolute tack driver. I put a cheap little Bushnell fixed 4x rimfire scope on it, and I literally shoot flies of rocks in the creek about 50 yards behind my back deck. I don't mean that I occasionally hit them, I mean that I very rarely miss lol. It's not just me, my girlfriend can routinely shoot them too. I have a ton of guns, but for some reason my little Henry 22 is probably my favorite. It takes me back to my childhood and my Daisy Red Ryder...

    I love my Ruger 10/22 wood carbine! And I love the cartridge it's chambered for (22lr) I am thinking of adding this rifle to my collection perhaps.. I held one at my local gun shop, and as far as I'm concerned, the Henry (round barrel) was very light weight like Chad and Eric discribed, and the fit and finish seemed "A" one. I'm tempted to $ one next trip to the store 😏 Love to see more 22 vids guys. Great job as always!

    Love the shirt and the gun. I used to hate .22 until i watched your channel. I can see the appeal now

    I bought a goldenboy recently and i love it. But sometimes if you use the lever too slow, the bullet gets stuck...

    We follow him, and we are in Queensland, Australia. It is hard to get a Henry rifle in Australia. We have around a year's waiting list. I have my Henry .22 best-ever rifle. I am on a waiting list for a 223 Henry long ranger 5 mag lever action.

    Nothing like being at a range with a .22 revolver using shorts. The look on some people when its fired, expecting something much different and just the tiniest little pew comes from it. haha

    I have one of the round barrels run a cheap 4x32 scope dead on at 50 and like 1/4 inch low at 100 yards it's my squirrel gun love it take it out and make bets with buddies at the range for how far that it will hit accurately furthest ice hot was about 130 yards.

    So what are the advantages and disadvantages of the buckhorn sights? Do the big ears make it easier to compensate for long range?

    I've left plenty of empty brass under my shooting bag and still I've never been visited by the Mag fairy. You are a very lucky little boy Eric.
