I had a white 2012 V6 Mustang Premium Pony Package It was a great car and loved it. I got a ton of compliments from both men and women. The 2011-2012 Pony Package V6 was a beautiful car. A few guys at work talked a lot of crap about my car, but I later figured out that it was all based on jealousy. They weren't actually jealous of my V6 Mustang. Not too many people would be. They were jealous because I bought a new car which looked like a beautiful sports car and every time they saw it, they were reminded of the fact that they weren't driving their own dream car. If I had bought a new Camry or Accord, nobody would've said a damn word. But, I would take a V6 or EcoBoost Mustang as daily driver, rather than a Camry or Accord, any day of the week.
@@Liam-ub5gj I don't own one but I've seen a few videos where an 6 speed manual ecoboost smoked an charger V6, so i'd assume i'd do even better if its the 10-speed automatic. the ecoboost is for sure faster than an sxt if both stock
I traded in a 2017 ecoboost for a 2018 GT and the difference in the monthly cost is definitely noticeable with the insurance and the gas. That's the cost of having a V8 with that nice exhaust sound and powerful engine.

So many people hate on the V6 yet with a good catback exhaust system you’ll sound better than any EcoBoost + with a procharger you’ll smoke stock 5.0’s and still have money leftover all while paying lower insurance and getting better gas mileage. Ford quickly realized that the V6 has too much potential to outshine the other two engines which is why they killed it. Change my mind.
Love that you mentioned the SVO several times Joe, as a owner of one I feel like they deserve more recognition...a car ahead and too advanced for its time. Would love for you to find someone who owns a SVO locally to you and do a review on one 🙂
the eco is faster and the driving of the EcoBoost is just better than the v6 due to the 10 spd transmission, I've driven both and the EcoBoost is a better drive but the v6 is good for sound and for going a precharge route. however big turbo ecoboosts are just as strong. all are good tbh, if the v6 was a bit faster i'd cop it.
I had a 2015 ecoboost. It was a cool car and PP was well worth it . If you crave more power you can add a tune and some simple bolt ons and the engine will come alive. its a great platform . sound out the factory does leave a little more to be desired so I highly recommend an after market exhaust and down pipe if you want that
@@justintylerm.3534 I have a 2015 v6 with 48k miles. Only problem I've had so far is the back up camera doesn't work half the time and sometimes the Bluetooth doesn't work right. Other than that its been running like a champ
If I were to get a v6 mustang, the first thing I'd do after I bought one is replacing that freaking display. I would gladly pay almost 2 grand just to get more practicality from it.
I like how you explained the linear power delivery! I own a 2012 V6 drove a 2019 ecoboost while V6 was getting repairs and something was off about the acceleration but couldn't figure out what it was. I prefer the linear power delivery of V6
Also, a 2.3 sized engine is too small for a car that heavy. It's stupid, no matter how many turbos you stick on it. Anything less than 3.0 is wrong for the weight ratio of the car.

Just bought the 17 v6. Absolutely love it. Also, there are options out there that can give you the power of the coyote for less money than the coyote. One can also drop an eco boost v6 from the Ford sho.

I don't know about y'all but I prefer the faster car with better gas mileage and cheaper insurance on the ecoboost. And I couldn't care less about the exhaust sound.

As a big fan of auto mafia racing (and having considered buying a v6 and put their turbo setup), I'm aware that those booted 3.7 can be quite a beast! ..but again..if you consider the REAL cost of parts and labor and all the miscellaneous for a turbo v6, MAYBE. A modded v8 is still a better bargain. I'm still wondering :p (But most likely, will buy a v8 :p)
The v6 is by far a SUPERIOR engine! The ecoboost was a reaction from the federal mandates on emissions by the government of the usa! The duratech 3.7 is the better choice by leaps and bounds! Ecoboost engines will fail! All of them! The new bronco 2.7 ecoboost is already plagued with issues! Stay away from ecoboost! And the 4 cyl sounds like garbage! Cyclone v6,s sound amazing!
Yeah, the V6 is the way to go. I don't think the Ecoboost is tuned properly or something -- they just sound too wheezy. It is possible to make a 4 cylinder sound like magic but Ford hasn't figured it out yet. Maybe they should study the Fiat 500 Abarth -- while that car is stupid looking and slow, it has a great exhaust note.

I love all mustangs eco v6 v8 no matter what size of engine. To me they are the best muscle car plus it never been discontinued ever unlike some dodge cars and the camaro
I agree. Next gens body are too rounded for my taste and they look like more japanese than american imo. I'd love to upgrade my 2010 v6 (it's a so sad motor...) but never beyond a 2014 model!
The 3.7L is a great engine for what you want in an entry level muscle/sports car, the reason ford went with the ecoboost is because they wanted to make the Mustang a global car and in a lot of counties they tax the displacement size of the engine. So to get around that Ford developed this turbo-4 to make them more competitive in the global market. Ford has 2 turbocharged V6's very similar in design to the 3.7L that they put in the F150 that both make a lot of power and I think would have been amazing in the Mustang platform but then that would have stepped on the toes of the 5.0. At the end of the day I would say if you want a car that your going to buy and keep for a few years and sell get the Ecoboost, you can put a few minor mods on it and be close to 400HP, which is really impressive for a 4 cylinder, do a down pipe, an intake and a tune have have some with it for a few years and put it back to stock and sell it before the motor blows. if your looking for a long term car, something that you want to get a lot of miles out of go for the 3.7L they've made that engine for a long time now and their fairly reliable, and hey if you want to mod it theirs still a great community and theirs a ton of stuff you can do to a 3.7L, a turbo or procharged on that V6 will have you spanking bolt on ecoboosts and slightly ahead of 5.0s, its not as easy to get more power out of then the 2.3L but I'd rather have the 3.7L long term.
I'm going with the V6 on this one Joe. That engine is tried and true. Invest in some bolt-ons with the money saved and you should be able to outperform a stock Ecoboost.
And invest in an IC and a good tune (non OTS - off the shelf/preloaded) and the EB will outperform a bolt on/ tune only v6. EB with IC plus tune = $1200 at most. The possibilities are endless. Dont get me wrong, I am NOT trying to bash the v6. Both EB and v6 can become little monsters with the right mods... Im at 86k mi in my '16 Eb so far.
@@M4B21S88 yeah that's why i said a stock Ecoboost. Part of the appeal is that you can get a V6 for well under $20k right now as oppose to a brand new EB like the one in the video. But tbh I like them both just prefer N/A. I drove a stock Ecoboost with the 10 speed it was real smooth handled great I even enjoyed the fake pumped in audio. 86k is amazing you def drive the thing lol do you have any other performance mods?
@@ElSikario100 I test drove both a v6 and EB. I first test drove the v6 and then EB, ended with with the EB. Love that low end torque. I bought CPO with only 10k. Ever since ive been pumping 93 octane only, added MBRP race catback, its actually pretty damn nice lol...I HATE, HATE , HATE hearing the EB with a high pitch sound...I will agree with anyone who says it sounds like shit..lol but the MBRP is actually a deep growl tone. Other than that, IC and K&N drop in filter. To me, the car is fast enough...in my 3.5 years of ownership I can count with 1 hand (maybe 2 hands lol) the times Ive taken her to 120 mph...lol And yes, I enjoy driving the hell out of it... Its only had to have the AC evap and purge valve replaced , which are pretty common Ford issues since the s197.
@@M4B21S88 that's dope! Made me look up some used S550 Mustangs. Early model EB Premium are such a steal right now but I gotta hold off for another year. I'm glad she's treating you well. The crazy thing is you can easily get 400hp with a dyno or street tune and be nabbing at the 5.0's heels if you ever wanted. The V6 would needs a few thousand dollars for a turbo kit but again they're so cheap at the moment it all comes down to preference really. I hope you get many more miles outta her; enjoy the ride!
The two cars have different purposes. The turbo 4 is designed to act like a V-8 with maxed out low end torque. The V-6 is more of a euro engine that has torque higher up in the rev range and likes to rev more with a great sound. And most importantly, NO turbo lag Also, the V-6 has the least weight over the front tires for better turn in. The wheels are a little smaller which means better handling on less than perfect roads. The larger sidewalls also transmit less road shock into the unibody for less metal fatigue over time (a problem with ford's). Finally the V-6 is the only engine that does not require high test. Also, insurance is slightly less with the V-6. With the right tires, it handles well in real world driving. It likes curves but is more of a grand tourer than the turbo. The V-6 is more about a real world car for curves. The turbo is all about 0-60. Woo hoo, I'm a big macho car guy because my car goes fast zero to -60. The V-6 is for mature drivers.
@Arkeves I test drove a turbo before I got the V-6. "Hardly any tubo lag" is correct. But "hardly any" means it has some. The v-6 has none, zero. That is my point. My point in the post above is the different engines create cars with different personalities. Each good in its own way. I happen to prefer the V-6 version.
@Arkeves agreed, getting tired of the horsepower wars going insane. Like you can use 700, or more horsepower in real life. In the words of shrek, "I think he is trying to compensate for something". I once saw a race between a miata vs. a Hellcat on a twisty race course. The Miata easily beat the hellcat. Power is not everything.
@@SuperpowerHome Yeah, tuning the 4 cylinder is a waste of time. Why would you void your warranty -- when you can get better performance WITH A warranty by simply buying the V8. Tuning the 4 banger is a penny wise, pound foolish decision.
Keep in mind youre likely test driving EB's pumped with 87 octane by the dealer. The EB wakes up A LOT with 93 (edit: and likely with very low miles in them)..Honestly, I feel like these EB engines get faster with more miles in them. Anyway, Its rated numbers are achieved only with the higher octane. The higher octane helps a lot in reducing that "lag", personally, I dont feel any lag in my '16 EB from a stop , there IS a very slight delay from a "roll" ... once its in boost, thing FLIES.
Joe this was a great review let me chime in on a few things. 1. The eco boost is faster. But in real world driving its more expensive to drive. V6 makes 305hp on 87 gas. The eco makes 310 with premium. That's an extra 30c a gallon every fill up. Something to really consider. Also the v6 can be made to sound really good. But not heard a good sounding eco yet. And the v6 can be made as fast as the stock eco pretty cheaply...
Plus a na engine will have a longer life than a turbo 4 cylinder like with the ecoboost. The ecoboosts start to have some issues around the 90k miles range.
Yes, youre right that the EB makes its rated HP only on 93 octane but, I mean, come on: Lets say you dont wait until youre empty on fuel. Both have about 15 gallons. My local fuel prices in central FL - pre covid: 87 octane: 2.50 x 14 gal = $35 93 octane: 2.90 x 14 gal = $40.6 Difference: $6 WEEKLY roughly. Driving habits / temperatures / distance will influence this. Now, unless youre extremely conservative with your hard earn coin/thrifty... I can make an argument of the JUNK ppl buy on a daily basis (coffee, energy drinks, snacks, gum, etc) that easily add up to $5 DAILY. Regardless, I have, via the forums, read from v6 owners claiming they get better performance out of using 91/93 over 87 octane. Vast majority of them cannot break sub 6 seconds on 87 octane. Of course, many things are to take into account..sure. I am just stating what OWNERS have experienced. Plus, a lot of them opt for a 91/93 tune, so then certainly the price in fuel is not a problem Both are great! but the truth is that the EB will gain the most power out of just $1200 (tune plus intercooler). Yes, the v6 can sound better with the right exhaust, for sure but, to be fair, the EB with the MBRP race sounds pretty damn decent for a 4 banger.

Ford pretty much lied about v6 specs because they were phasing it out and had to make the v6 an option people don't want to pick. Example. 2011-2014 V6 made 305hp and actually made 310hp on 93 because of the change in advanced timing. So why in 2015 up do the v6 make 300hp with the same engine?? Or why did they make the v6 not have any leather options? It was just a marketing thing. Joe even realized that on video the v6 clearly looked faster

I agree with the whole advertisement thing from Ford... I even tell some peeps that freak out that the v6 was “de-tuned” to make 300 instead of its 305 hp. Im like, its the same engine, it likely still makes 305 hp but they wanna make the EB look more “appealing” but, i mean, wth is 10 hp ultimately lol... My main argument was about the fuel prices... whether you buy a EB, V6, v8 and you drive it like its supposed to be driven, youre gonna spend more $ at the pump. I think if Ford would have done what chevy did with the camaro, that is, giving it 335 hp and 300 lb/ft of tq , id end up in the v6.. buuut then the v6 would be the mid level costing more coin, especially if you want more comfort features. I love my ‘16 EB, though. The turbo spooling is something you learn to love. Love that low end torque, and its very fast since i pump the good stuff. Im at 86k miles so far , crossing fingers itll go other 50k mi w/o major issues!
My 2015 V6 Mustang with the 051A package which gave you the fog lights, 18” five spoke wheels, color matched spoiler (or delete like I did), and power drivers seat. I also got the Auto Trans and it cost around $26k. I got mine for around $22k and ordered it from the factory. It was built on my birthday which is a great piece of provenance. The larger screen with Nav was NEVER an option on the V6 and neither was leather or the different trim on the dash. I’ve had the car 9 years and I put a Borla S-type cat back exhaust so she sounds amazing. Better than any Ecoboost. My car is a DIY P-51D Mustang Tribute car which has black Lemans stripes with white accent stripes which are an homage to the invasion stripes on Allies fighters during and after D-day June 6 1944. I use two USAAF roundels where 5.0 badges would be on the V8 and a custom tribute edition rear badge with a P-51d as well. She’s a beauty and still turns heads all these years later. 70k miles and I still smile every time I’m behind the wheel. So the V6 is just great to me!
The issue is that you can't have two engine choices making the same amount of horse power. The v6 make 305hp and the eco only really make 5 more at 310hp. They would either have to gimp the ecoboost or increase the HP of the v6 which would bring it too close the horse range of the v8 option.
👍 No Brembos?? 😒 The blue stang would’ve looked great with red Brembos. The black rims on the blue Stang is preferable imho. The 4 banger eco boost engine is obviously better. The newer interior is a huge step up. Excellent review Joseph!!!
Had an s550 V6 with 18” oem gloss painted rims and installed Borla SType exhaust it was acousticly loud. Was fun car, traded it for a GT while I have equity on it. Lesson learned, buy a V8 in the first place if your heart tell you to. Save up. If you cant afford a GT dont buy a Mustang alternative to begin with. Ford admits cyclone is a durable engine :). If you’re set for a V6 or i4 turbo and no ambition for a V8 then you are good too. Otherwise like most first time buyer who didnt buy a V8 will end up buying a V8 sooner or later.
I personally would take the V6 over the eco boost while I like the idea of a turbocharged Mustang and sure it’s more turntable but you can put a blower on the V6 not to mention no matter what exhaust Ford OR what aftermarket exhaust you put on it it’s going to sound like rice. The V6 makes power all the way to redline the four banger is more midrange and tends to run out of steam as you approach redline. Ford detuned the newer V6 Mustangs they make five less horsepower and you could get all the handling goodies just like the V8 had. Give me a 2011 V6 Mustang with the handling package and a manual gearbox.
Got a 2017 V6, love it so much. It so much louder inside than the ecoboost. It’s been very reliable and fun! Test drove a ecoboost and did not like how I had to wait for the power delivery, V6 was instant on throttle response.
Other than being a new car the only major differences is a bigger screen, toggle switches and 0.5 second better 0-60 for $12,000. The orange is pretty awesome though!
You are SO wrong regarding the back up camera. The big screen uses the same camera with the same resolution. So the bigger back up camera is blurry. At least the small picture is clear. I wanted the bigger picture until I compared. Also with the smaller screen you have buttons that do not require rifling through screens. The buttons are much more driver oriented.
Mopar Tom ya, a quick muffler delete and h-pipe would do the V6 justice. Can’t say the same about the 4 cylinder tho. Sounds like straight ass with a muffler delete. Trust me I know - had a 2016 ecoboost, then traded it in for a 2016 GT.
They might as well have kept the V6 , engine variety is what makes Ford a good brand. Dodge already has like 4 different engine options for the Challenger
Fun fact the ecoboost needs premium to make that 10hp more than the 3.7 which makes its power on 87 octane. If you ran the ecoboost on 87 it would make less. If you ran premium on the 3.7 it would essentially be the same hp. Also gotta love that the ecoboost ran an identical 13.7 to the v6s that the v6 ran back in 2011.
I would rather get V6. Naturally aspirated engines gets up to the speed more smoothly, handles better with manual transmission. Does V6 Mustang run with 87 octane? Engine sound in the cabin also more pleasant from the video, too!
the hp on the v6 is actually higher hp with 93 and even with 91 oct gas... they power rated the v6 engines with 87 oct the v6 gets a hp rating of 312-17 with 91-94 oct and 292 tq
The stock wheels on the 2017 Mustang V-6 were 17" and called "Bright Silver." Someone plastic-dipped, painted, or powder coated those rims black. I powder-coated mine and they look a heck of lot better. I don't know why automobile manufactures feel the need to make the wheels on all base trim levels either chrome or silver. The color black is in style now and no more expensive to apply than the others.

v6 is for keeping it stock but if u have money for mods then get the eco. i just did full bolt ons to my 2019 mustang ecoboost 10 speed auto and it’s way faster, and then e30 tune. it should go from a stock 5.3 0-60 with just an intake to mid 4’s
It is a 4 cylinder car which WILL start using oil before it has 50000 miles. Ford has don this crap with every generation of Mustang. Then they put the 6 cylinders back in the car. 4 cylinder cars are only bought by people who doesn’t understand how motors work.
It actually is and it's very much on the low end of what it's capable of safely handling. My 2018 has been 430hp stock block for 2 years straight 55k miles I drive it a lot
I'm 430hp on my ecoboost after bolt ons and tunes. Even added a gun shot map tune just to be a jerk sometimes 😂. But anyway, I smoke 95% of gt's I come across. Yes a modded gt will take me to gapple bees but they are not common!
I guess the reason I don’t want a v8 is because I don’t need that much speed, I rather have the extra MPG at a cheaper price and less insurance cost than have all that... also, maybe if I was a guy I would get the v8 since men take so much pride in having the fastest car on the street lol. I just want the mustang cause they are sporty, fast but elegant looking at the same time. All the other muscle cars are too manly looking for me lol

I had a V6, 2004 40th Anniversary Edition, owned for 10 years, now just went to dealer and put a deposit on a 2020 Ecoboost premium, 55 years badge on the interier! Your videos definitely helped me pick what exactly I wanted, as a daily driver.
The early Mustangs that I have seen over the years had the 260 then 289 v8's in them along with the inline 6 I worked on a 65 with the small block factory v8 with the early gold valve covers.
You can get the V6, put a Roush CAI in it and it's just as powerful as the Ecoboost and sounds much better. That's what I did and people love it. Camaro owners, Challenger, Charger, and other Mustang owners all like the car.
I had a 15 EcoBoost once it came out. Great little engine and turbo is fun. Pros super comfortable and easy to daily. Very refined feeling. Cons I had major heat soak issues on any day past 80 85 and would make you really need to ring the car out for power in stop and go or highway traffic. Also the gas mileage from the 19 GT I have now and the eco are very similar unless you are on a perfect highway.
V6 for me at least stock form it doesn’t sound like a Honda. That being said I do like the HPP 2.3 over the eco boost 2.3. It sounds better than the economist 2.3

the eco is faster and the driving of the EcoBoost is just better than the v6 due to the 10 spd transmission, I've driven both and the EcoBoost is a better drive but the v6 is good for sound and for going a precharge route. however big turbo ecoboosts are just as strong. all are good tbh, if the v6 was a bit faster i'd cop it.
I had a 2015 ecoboost. It was a cool car and PP was well worth it . If you crave more power you can add a tune and some simple bolt ons and the engine will come alive. its a great platform . sound out the factory does leave a little more to be desired so I highly recommend an after market exhaust and down pipe if you want that
Yes have a V6 but also allow it to have the premium trim with the leather and usable touch screen infotainment screen instead of the baby screen.

@@justintylerm.3534 I have a 2015 v6 with 48k miles. Only problem I've had so far is the back up camera doesn't work half the time and sometimes the Bluetooth doesn't work right. Other than that its been running like a champ

If I were to get a v6 mustang, the first thing I'd do after I bought one is replacing that freaking display. I would gladly pay almost 2 grand just to get more practicality from it.

I like how you explained the linear power delivery! I own a 2012 V6 drove a 2019 ecoboost while V6 was getting repairs and something was off about the acceleration but couldn't figure out what it was. I prefer the linear power delivery of V6

Also, a 2.3 sized engine is too small for a car that heavy. It's stupid, no matter how many turbos you stick on it. Anything less than 3.0 is wrong for the weight ratio of the car.

Just bought the 17 v6. Absolutely love it. Also, there are options out there that can give you the power of the coyote for less money than the coyote. One can also drop an eco boost v6 from the Ford sho.

I think it would be fair to compare both in the base trim, since V6 did not have a "Premium" trim.
I don't know about y'all but I prefer the faster car with better gas mileage and cheaper insurance on the ecoboost. And I couldn't care less about the exhaust sound.

I'd take the 2017 just for the V6 sound. And you put a turbo on it than you can send the 4 banger back to kindergarten.

price is around 3k for used kit 5k for a new turbo kit, and I'm a mechanic I don't pay labor, however I would pay 200 to 500 for tune.
The v6 is by far a SUPERIOR engine! The ecoboost was a reaction from the federal mandates on emissions by the government of the usa! The duratech 3.7 is the better choice by leaps and bounds! Ecoboost engines will fail! All of them! The new bronco 2.7 ecoboost is already plagued with issues! Stay away from ecoboost! And the 4 cyl sounds like garbage! Cyclone v6,s sound amazing!

Yeah, the V6 is the way to go. I don't think the Ecoboost is tuned properly or something -- they just sound too wheezy. It is possible to make a 4 cylinder sound like magic but Ford hasn't figured it out yet. Maybe they should study the Fiat 500 Abarth -- while that car is stupid looking and slow, it has a great exhaust note.

The 3.7L is a great engine for what you want in an entry level muscle/sports car, the reason ford went with the ecoboost is because they wanted to make the Mustang a global car and in a lot of counties they tax the displacement size of the engine. So to get around that Ford developed this turbo-4 to make them more competitive in the global market. Ford has 2 turbocharged V6's very similar in design to the 3.7L that they put in the F150 that both make a lot of power and I think would have been amazing in the Mustang platform but then that would have stepped on the toes of the 5.0. At the end of the day I would say if you want a car that your going to buy and keep for a few years and sell get the Ecoboost, you can put a few minor mods on it and be close to 400HP, which is really impressive for a 4 cylinder, do a down pipe, an intake and a tune have have some with it for a few years and put it back to stock and sell it before the motor blows. if your looking for a long term car, something that you want to get a lot of miles out of go for the 3.7L they've made that engine for a long time now and their fairly reliable, and hey if you want to mod it theirs still a great community and theirs a ton of stuff you can do to a 3.7L, a turbo or procharged on that V6 will have you spanking bolt on ecoboosts and slightly ahead of 5.0s, its not as easy to get more power out of then the 2.3L but I'd rather have the 3.7L long term.

I'm going with the V6 on this one Joe. That engine is tried and true. Invest in some bolt-ons with the money saved and you should be able to outperform a stock Ecoboost.
And invest in an IC and a good tune (non OTS - off the shelf/preloaded) and the EB will outperform a bolt on/ tune only v6. EB with IC plus tune = $1200 at most. The possibilities are endless.
Dont get me wrong, I am NOT trying to bash the v6. Both EB and v6 can become little monsters with the right mods...
Im at 86k mi in my '16 Eb so far.
@@M4B21S88 yeah that's why i said a stock Ecoboost. Part of the appeal is that you can get a V6 for well under $20k right now as oppose to a brand new EB like the one in the video. But tbh I like them both just prefer N/A. I drove a stock Ecoboost with the 10 speed it was real smooth handled great I even enjoyed the fake pumped in audio. 86k is amazing you def drive the thing lol do you have any other performance mods?

@@ElSikario100 I test drove both a v6 and EB. I first test drove the v6 and then EB, ended with with the EB. Love that low end torque. I bought CPO with only 10k. Ever since ive been pumping 93 octane only, added MBRP race catback, its actually pretty damn nice lol...I HATE, HATE , HATE hearing the EB with a high pitch sound...I will agree with anyone who says it sounds like shit..lol but the MBRP is actually a deep growl tone.
Other than that, IC and K&N drop in filter. To me, the car is fast enough...in my 3.5 years of ownership I can count with 1 hand (maybe 2 hands lol) the times Ive taken her to 120 mph...lol
And yes, I enjoy driving the hell out of it... Its only had to have the AC evap and purge valve replaced , which are pretty common Ford issues since the s197.
@@M4B21S88 that's dope! Made me look up some used S550 Mustangs. Early model EB Premium are such a steal right now but I gotta hold off for another year. I'm glad she's treating you well. The crazy thing is you can easily get 400hp with a dyno or street tune and be nabbing at the 5.0's heels if you ever wanted. The V6 would needs a few thousand dollars for a turbo kit but again they're so cheap at the moment it all comes down to preference really. I hope you get many more miles outta her; enjoy the ride!

Just got my first mustang and it's a v6 RS 2017
The two cars have different purposes. The turbo 4 is designed to act like a V-8 with maxed out low end torque. The V-6 is more of a euro engine that has torque higher up in the rev range and likes to rev more with a great sound. And most importantly, NO turbo lag Also, the V-6 has the least weight over the front tires for better turn in. The wheels are a little smaller which means better handling on less than perfect roads. The larger sidewalls also transmit less road shock into the unibody for less metal fatigue over time (a problem with ford's). Finally the V-6 is the only engine that does not require high test. Also, insurance is slightly less with the V-6. With the right tires, it handles well in real world driving. It likes curves but is more of a grand tourer than the turbo. The V-6 is more about a real world car for curves. The turbo is all about 0-60. Woo hoo, I'm a big macho car guy because my car goes fast zero to -60. The V-6 is for mature drivers.
@Arkeves I test drove a turbo before I got the V-6. "Hardly any tubo lag" is correct. But "hardly any" means it has some. The v-6 has none, zero. That is my point. My point in the post above is the different engines create cars with different personalities. Each good in its own way. I happen to prefer the V-6 version.
@Arkeves agreed, getting tired of the horsepower wars going insane. Like you can use 700, or more horsepower in real life. In the words of shrek, "I think he is trying to compensate for something". I once saw a race between a miata vs. a Hellcat on a twisty race course. The Miata easily beat the hellcat. Power is not everything.
What's crazy is the eco boost is faster then the V6 with a smaller engine. But you add a turbo charger to the V6 and game over. lol

80's Boombox Collector definitely will get more horsepower than tuning a v6, but over 400hp you’re playing with the engines life in the 4 cylinder.

Keep in mind youre likely test driving EB's pumped with 87 octane by the dealer. The EB wakes up A LOT with 93 (edit: and likely with very low miles in them)..Honestly, I feel like these EB engines get faster with more miles in them. Anyway, Its rated numbers are achieved only with the higher octane. The higher octane helps a lot in reducing that "lag", personally, I dont feel any lag in my '16 EB from a stop , there IS a very slight delay from a "roll" ... once its in boost, thing FLIES.

Joe this was a great review let me chime in on a few things. 1. The eco boost is faster. But in real world driving its more expensive to drive. V6 makes 305hp on 87 gas. The eco makes 310 with premium. That's an extra 30c a gallon every fill up. Something to really consider. Also the v6 can be made to sound really good. But not heard a good sounding eco yet. And the v6 can be made as fast as the stock eco pretty cheaply...
Plus a na engine will have a longer life than a turbo 4 cylinder like with the ecoboost. The ecoboosts start to have some issues around the 90k miles range.
Yes, youre right that the EB makes its rated HP only on 93 octane but, I mean, come on:
Lets say you dont wait until youre empty on fuel. Both have about 15 gallons. My local fuel prices in central FL - pre covid:
87 octane: 2.50 x 14 gal = $35
93 octane: 2.90 x 14 gal = $40.6
Difference: $6 WEEKLY roughly. Driving habits / temperatures / distance will influence this.
Now, unless youre extremely conservative with your hard earn coin/thrifty... I can make an argument of the JUNK ppl buy on a daily basis (coffee, energy drinks, snacks, gum, etc) that easily add up to $5 DAILY.
Regardless, I have, via the forums, read from v6 owners claiming they get better performance out of using 91/93 over 87 octane.
Vast majority of them cannot break sub 6 seconds on 87 octane. Of course, many things are to take into account..sure. I am just stating what OWNERS have experienced. Plus, a lot of them opt for a 91/93 tune, so then certainly the price in fuel is not a problem
Both are great! but the truth is that the EB will gain the most power out of just $1200 (tune plus intercooler). Yes, the v6 can sound better with the right exhaust, for sure but, to be fair, the EB with the MBRP race sounds pretty damn decent for a 4 banger.

I agree with the whole advertisement thing from Ford... I even tell some peeps that freak out that the v6 was “de-tuned” to make 300 instead of its 305 hp. Im like, its the same engine, it likely still makes 305 hp but they wanna make the EB look more “appealing” but, i mean, wth is 10 hp ultimately lol...
My main argument was about the fuel prices... whether you buy a EB, V6, v8 and you drive it like its supposed to be driven, youre gonna spend more $ at the pump.
I think if Ford would have done what chevy did with the camaro, that is, giving it 335 hp and 300 lb/ft of tq , id end up in the v6.. buuut then the v6 would be the mid level costing more coin, especially if you want more comfort features.
I love my ‘16 EB, though. The turbo spooling is something you learn to love. Love that low end torque, and its very fast since i pump the good stuff. Im at 86k miles so far , crossing fingers itll go other 50k mi w/o major issues!
That V6 pulls pretty good onto the highway.
My 2015 V6 Mustang with the 051A package which gave you the fog lights, 18” five spoke wheels, color matched spoiler (or delete like I did), and power drivers seat. I also got the Auto Trans and it cost around $26k. I got mine for around $22k and ordered it from the factory. It was built on my birthday which is a great piece of provenance. The larger screen with Nav was NEVER an option on the V6 and neither was leather or the different trim on the dash. I’ve had the car 9 years and I put a Borla S-type cat back exhaust so she sounds amazing. Better than any Ecoboost. My car is a DIY P-51D Mustang Tribute car which has black Lemans stripes with white accent stripes which are an homage to the invasion stripes on Allies fighters during and after D-day June 6 1944. I use two USAAF roundels where 5.0 badges would be on the V8 and a custom tribute edition rear badge with a P-51d as well. She’s a beauty and still turns heads all these years later. 70k miles and I still smile every time I’m behind the wheel. So the V6 is just great to me!
The eco boost should have the base and the v6 should have the next step up. The eco boost sounds like crap exhaust wise.
The issue is that you can't have two engine choices making the same amount of horse power. The v6 make 305hp and the eco only really make 5 more at 310hp. They would either have to gimp the ecoboost or increase the HP of the v6 which would bring it too close the horse range of the v8 option.
👍 No Brembos?? 😒 The blue stang would’ve looked great with red Brembos. The black rims on the blue Stang is preferable imho. The 4 banger eco boost engine is obviously better. The newer interior is a huge step up. Excellent review Joseph!!!

Neither car can be optioned (unsure on the high performance version) with brembos.
Had an s550 V6 with 18” oem gloss painted rims and installed Borla SType exhaust it was acousticly loud. Was fun car, traded it for a GT while I have equity on it. Lesson learned, buy a V8 in the first place if your heart tell you to. Save up. If you cant afford a GT dont buy a Mustang alternative to begin with.

If you’re set for a V6 or i4 turbo and no ambition for a V8 then you are good too. Otherwise like most first time buyer who didnt buy a V8 will end up buying a V8 sooner or later.
Plan on buying a v8 when the s650 comes out . I have a 2015 v6 rn and I’m only 20 didn’t have the money and it’s my daily 🤷🏾♂️

I bought the ecoboost and I love it. But now that the honeymoon is over I wish I got the GT.
I personally would take the V6 over the eco boost while I like the idea of a turbocharged Mustang and sure it’s more turntable but you can put a blower on the V6 not to mention no matter what exhaust Ford OR what aftermarket exhaust you put on it it’s going to sound like rice. The V6 makes power all the way to redline the four banger is more midrange and tends to run out of steam as you approach redline.
Ford detuned the newer V6 Mustangs they make five less horsepower and you could get all the handling goodies just like the V8 had.
Give me a 2011 V6 Mustang with the handling package and a manual gearbox.
2011-2014 V6s are no joke. I know a guy with an intake, exhaust, and 93 tune, and he beat my 4.6 3V, and my buddies stock Taurus SHO.

Got a 2017 V6, love it so much. It so much louder inside than the ecoboost. It’s been very reliable and fun! Test drove a ecoboost and did not like how I had to wait for the power delivery, V6 was instant on throttle response.

You are SO wrong regarding the back up camera. The big screen uses the same camera with the same resolution. So the bigger back up camera is blurry. At least the small picture is clear. I wanted the bigger picture until I compared. Also with the smaller screen you have buttons that do not require rifling through screens. The buttons are much more driver oriented.
If I were to choose one of the Mustangs, it would be the Orange one. Although I prefer to have it as a V6 engine. I love hearing loud engine roars.

Mopar Tom ya, a quick muffler delete and h-pipe would do the V6 justice. Can’t say the same about the 4 cylinder tho. Sounds like straight ass with a muffler delete. Trust me I know - had a 2016 ecoboost, then traded it in for a 2016 GT.

Fun fact the ecoboost needs premium to make that 10hp more than the 3.7 which makes its power on 87 octane. If you ran the ecoboost on 87 it would make less. If you ran premium on the 3.7 it would essentially be the same hp. Also gotta love that the ecoboost ran an identical 13.7 to the v6s that the v6 ran back in 2011.
You can run premium on the v6 which ups the horsepower. It has a cpu that can detect and adjust to fuel changes.

I would rather get V6. Naturally aspirated engines gets up to the speed more smoothly, handles better with manual transmission. Does V6 Mustang run with 87 octane? Engine sound in the cabin also more pleasant from the video, too!

the hp on the v6 is actually higher hp with 93 and even with 91 oct gas... they power rated the v6 engines with 87 oct the v6 gets a hp rating of 312-17 with 91-94 oct and 292 tq
The stock wheels on the 2017 Mustang V-6 were 17" and called "Bright Silver." Someone plastic-dipped, painted, or powder coated those rims black. I powder-coated mine and they look a heck of lot better. I don't know why automobile manufactures feel the need to make the wheels on all base trim levels either chrome or silver. The color black is in style now and no more expensive to apply than the others.

v6 is for keeping it stock but if u have money for mods then get the eco. i just did full bolt ons to my 2019 mustang ecoboost 10 speed auto and it’s way faster, and then e30 tune. it should go from a stock 5.3 0-60 with just an intake to mid 4’s
It is a 4 cylinder car which WILL start using oil before it has 50000 miles. Ford has don this crap with every generation of Mustang. Then they put the 6 cylinders back in the car. 4 cylinder cars are only bought by people who doesn’t understand how motors work.
V6 cyclone all day sounds great not like that garbage ecoboost plus that 17 model looks better to.👈🏾👈🏾👈🏾🎉🎉🎉

It actually is and it's very much on the low end of what it's capable of safely handling. My 2018 has been 430hp stock block for 2 years straight 55k miles I drive it a lot

I'm 430hp on my ecoboost after bolt ons and tunes. Even added a gun shot map tune just to be a jerk sometimes 😂. But anyway, I smoke 95% of gt's I come across. Yes a modded gt will take me to gapple bees but they are not common!

I guess the reason I don’t want a v8 is because I don’t need that much speed, I rather have the extra MPG at a cheaper price and less insurance cost than have all that... also, maybe if I was a guy I would get the v8 since men take so much pride in having the fastest car on the street lol. I just want the mustang cause they are sporty, fast but elegant looking at the same time. All the other muscle cars are too manly looking for me lol

The early Mustangs that I have seen over the years had the 260 then 289 v8's in them along with the inline 6
I worked on a 65 with the small block factory v8 with the early gold valve covers.
cyclone engines dont carb up like eco boosts

You can get the V6, put a Roush CAI in it and it's just as powerful as the Ecoboost and sounds much better. That's what I did and people love it. Camaro owners, Challenger, Charger, and other Mustang owners all like the car.

I had a 15 EcoBoost once it came out. Great little engine and turbo is fun. Pros super comfortable and easy to daily. Very refined feeling. Cons I had major heat soak issues on any day past 80 85 and would make you really need to ring the car out for power in stop and go or highway traffic. Also the gas mileage from the 19 GT I have now and the eco are very similar unless you are on a perfect highway.
The 4 cylinder is the same 4 cylinder as the Pinto except with turbo
and you can easily get 350 rwhp on the cyclone with headers cai axle back and tune

V6 for me at least stock form it doesn’t sound like a Honda. That being said I do like the HPP 2.3 over the eco boost 2.3. It sounds better than the economist 2.3
Honda 4 cylinders actually sound decent without fart cannons, but the eco boost engine sounds absolute ass
Maticalise Music Master yes they do but when it looks like a mustang and feels like a mustang the sound of the eco boost throws it off
