    Chimera station

    I’ll mention a few: Currently #1,404 and rising, “Genotype: A Mendelian Genetics Game”. It has dice drafting and includes the theme of the 19th century Augustinian community and their genetic discoveries. #1,856, “Floriferous”. A pleasant twenty minute game making use of the “King Domino” turn order mechanism. Finally, a brand new one that plays quickly and with 2 to 6 players: “Gift of Tulips”. It is a twenty minute card game. It includes a “ thank you” inducing mechanism as you gift cards to others ( benefiting them with potential end game points) while you can gain in game points. Plus the score ranking of types of tulips is shifted by plays of the players. And there are hidden cards at the end revealed which can shift the points awarded in the “ tulip festival”. The art and theme is Dutch. It is currently way down at #7,937, but hopefully will climb up. All these games have plants/ flowers, so I must like that theme.

    This was a great list, I always love hearing about underated games. Asara is one I have had some interest in already and Brian Boru is so good. I looked into Strasbourg after you video and found it for a very high price tag. You are lucky to have one. Maybe one will turn up on the second hand market near me.
    I'd love to share with you a few of my hidden gems I recommend, ranked at 3,391 is Realm of Sand. Basically a great smash up of Splendor and Patchwork. Ranked at 2,684 is Capital Lux 2: Generations. It is a card drafting game that plays a bit like Black Jack. And lastly, ranked at 1,255 is Mykerinos. One of the best area control set collection games I've played. Every game plays to a very tight and tense finish. This one really needs a reprint.😎

    You showed up on my suggested! I'm glad you did...great lists, great banter! I love these kinds of lists because there are SO many new gamers in the hobby and they will NEVER hear about these games. Ever. For me...New Angeles (such a great negotiation game, but need 5-6 people and 4 hours), Kraftwagen (making European sports cars for customers during the start of that era...play it with 2 and you'll thank me later!) and Ortus Regni (hard card game where you build a 24 card deck at the beginning of the game to be the last Earl standing against eachother and the Vikings. The cards have no text on them and all do 2-4 different things. It's a bit hard to learn, harder to teach: but it's a brilliant game and hands down THE BEST production for a card game prior to 2020)

    A lot of these games have some pretty bad/boring art. It's unfortunate, but that plays a LOT into BGG rankings. These same games reskinned will probably easily break the top 500 with no rules changes. It's unfortunate, but that's really the pattern here.

    • @Dyskresiac
      @Dyskresiac 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@revimfadli4666 Sorry but there is value in it. Some games really let their theme explain the mechanics. And the look can make something more intuitive. It's more than simply a pretty coat of paint.

      @@Dyskresiac "Sorry but there is value in it. Some games really let their theme explain the mechanics. And the look can make something more intuitive. It's more than
      simply a pretty coat of paint."
      Sorry but who says that I don't agree with those values? Or that those values don't exist? Or anything about "simply a pretty coat of paint"? Making rules more immersive and intuitive is actually one of my favorite uses of theming. Can't assume everyone else doesn't think that way, just because they don't unload all of their opinions in one comment...
      Notice how in the end, the theme-improved mechanics you mentioned still involve good gameplay. Meanwhile what I was talking about was when the aesthetics are good, but the gameplay isn't, yet people don't care due to the former. The theme-mechanic integration that we like probably don't even matter with such games

    • @gregoriomagno17
      @gregoriomagno17 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a pretty interesting discussion. For some people art definitely makes a bigger impact than others. I won't despise a game just because it has bad art, but when the industry is very crowded, even if it's a good game, the art will drop it compared to the other games around it

    How is it you had no cooperative games in your hidden gems? Here a couple of them, all ranked bellow 1000 on BGG:
    - Ghost Fightin' Treasure Hunters. A kid game surprisingly difficult, we must take all the treasures our of an haunted house.
    - Castle Panic. It is as fun for 6 years old kids and a group in our 30s, it is a tower defence, we must protect the castle.
    - Roll for Adventure. It is like Yum, but cooperative.
    - Okey Dokey. It is what The Game should have been.
    - Monsters in the Elevator. A silly game with no communication, we try to get the elevator to the 20th floor.

      I've played Castle Panic. It's pretty good. I tend not to like cooperative games as you do something and then the game just spawns a bunch of monsters that run at you, but this one does it pretty well.

    New here...so what's up with the editing and all of the splice cuts? Can't you guys just roll camera and talk? It's really distracting. The guy with the hair-bun comes off as way too jittery. Too much coffee?
    I love board games and board game channels but I'm not sure your channel is for me.
    That being said, here's my top three (all kind of similar) that are ranked over 1000 on BGG;
    Level 7 Omega Protocol (BGG rank of 1088): It's simply one of my favorite One vs. All tactical games. The adrenaline mechanic is brilliant!
    Galaxy Defenders (1324): really fun solo/co-op minis board game with a great alien A.I. structure. Sword & Sorcery stole a lot of thunder from GD but I think it made it way too complex.
    Super Dungeon Explore (1946): great game with horrible rulesets...needs help but it is a beautiful game and a lot of fun. Their Kickstarter rip-off crushed fans and Arcadia Quest became much more popular.

    TH-camrs really need to drop these "OF ALL TIME" from titles. It doesn't mean anything. Everything is "OF ALL TIME", and a year and a half from now, it's out-dated. If it's "ALL TIME" you should be considering the future, board-games from 10 years, 20 years from now and that's just silly. Just don't use the term, the only thing it's doing is making your video look "sensationalist".

    • @ragnar1233
