This instructional is much better than the current one - Stop The Bleed. Elevating the limbs can help to prevent shock by making it easier for the body to direct blood away from the injury, or direct blood to the heart, brain.

its tea, milder... but Id recommend something sugary. Sugar helps calm those shakey hands down. I used to get those shakey hands when I started working as a paramedic. Sugar always helped.

It shocks me how many people don't understand this, a CAT tourniquet costs 30 bucks.

I mean the goal of a tourniquet is to completely STOP blood flow to the injured limb. If it's an absolute emergency situation and you have literally nothing else available, a belt won't completely stop the blood flow, but having it applied as tight as possible above the wound while at the same time applying pressure on the wound should significantly reduce blood flow and mitigate the amount of blood loss. It may be enough to save the person's life.

@@NateL1884 mo, it stops vein return so you dont get blood back from the limb, so baisiccly it makes it even worse, use a strong stick, silverware or something and a strong cloth, wrap the cloth around the extremity and put the stick betwen the leg and the cloth and start turning, it works as a tourniquet

please dont ever tie a knot to stop the blood circulation. you can make him lose the limb. just elevate the limb and aply presure on the wound with your hands or preferably a bandage. you shouldnt use a tourniquete unless its an extreme scenario where you cant get help in a very long time

In the case of an artery being split, never do this. Arteries are high pressure vessels, so they will continue to spray blood, regardless of the elevation.
