Funny enough there was a nurse in training, who pulled a knife out of someone, but was told to not remove the knife, so she got scared and put it back into the person. The person died and she was charged with manslaughter.
First off, if you're an EMT in an ambulance responding, always glove up before you even attempt to treat the wound to prevent contamination. If you're a civilian, find something like snow gloves, or work gloves or something to prevent you from getting sick through contamination if any illness exists.
I'm not sure gloves are always available to be honest

Whatever you do: NEVER remove the knife without a professional there with you. Removing the knife will do much more harm than good. The knife is actually preventing unnecessary blood loss. Ironically, the knife actually buys you time, in a way.

@@biancaariel4126 Well as a professional EMT I take for granted that I carry a med kit wherever I go. I would recommend the same for anyone. A lot of things can be transmitted from body fluid so it is not a good idea to go without. Get a medical kit with basic items and be prepared. it could save a life including yours.

At 2:50 if you saw someone in this situation would it be better to use a shirt to wrap the leg or just leave them until an ambulance shows up? It would really suck if they were in that position and i started wrapping their leg with something and it really did severe an artery.

on limbs:
use a belt or other item like a tie as a tourniquet and set it as tight as possible around 2-3 inch from the base of the limb. then call 911 (or local police/ambulance)
on torso/head/abdomen
while youre doing this be on the phone with 911 (or local police/ambulance) if the knife has been removed by the assailant rip up some clothing and use it to apply pressure. if the knife has not been removed try to wrap cloth around the knife and push it down onto the wound but be very very careful not to move the knife out or deeper into the wound.
No please do not try to push the knife into the wound. If you have called 911 and emergency response is on the way then let them stabilize the impaled object for transport, trying to stabilize it by wrapping cloth around it and pushing it down into the wound is drastically increasing the likelihood of causing further damage.

What if you don't have any Bandages to spare. You would have to use tissue, bed sheets, and other types of cloth right? I Accidentally Stabbed my self with a knife before and I used masking tape and a Tissue to stop the bleeding. That's a good way to do it right?

make yourself a kit and take first aid training
to stop knife wound bleeding if its minor a non stick STERILE pad and some gause, i tkae your knife wound was minor and that was all you need non stick sterile pad and some wrapping
a sever knife wound is pressure and dial 911, using pads and bandages, no need for that bedd sheet stuff if you have a proper kit, and if you have trauma supplies like quickclot, compression bandages etc, they might need to be used, and if its severe hemorrhage quickclot gauze stuffing (or some other hemostatic agent like celox) and a tourniquet are required,
and for sucking chest wounds a chest seal and ONLY if you are trained a decompression needle may be required, or even airway
Tissues are too fragile. They could easily rip (Specially if its wet) and go inside the wound. Best to use a bathroom cloth or towel.
No tissue because it will break up into pulp and you can get infection. It has to be clean cloth or if you're gonna use gauze to keep moist so it doesn't dry on the wound.

My suggestion will be to take out the knife then get a thick cloth like maybe a shirt or socks. If a sock make sure to and kinda whip it out with some water maybe. If there like no water maybe wrap the leg a little tight so the blood won't come out or he/she dies.
I not a expert so don't take everything I said word for word, all them were suggestions. Do your research but ya.

Put pressure on the wound to try to control the bleeding and call 911. If the knife is out of the wound then I would not put it back, trying to do so is pretty much guaranteed to cause further damage.

I would know because I have been stabbed before and that's not what you do what you do is remove it and check for stuff in the wound,then you clean all of the blood, then you put pressure on it to stop it from bleeding more,then in this case you numb the wound and stich it up
You got lucky. Do not remove the impaled object. It is plugging up the wound so blood loss is controlled. In the hospital they can remove it and properly clean and seal up the wound.
What would happen if its in your stomach, arm and hand (and how long will I be in the hospital cuz I swear to god I'm not gonna stay here for some months :/ oh and will I still be able to move my hand ever again?
Dashie shinell To answer your question internal bleeding in the intestines could be fatal and kill you, If you're stabbed in the arm or the hand and you're lucky enough to not have an artery cut you could control the bleeding and raise the hand above the heart. Also, you will most likely be able to move your hand depending on if an if a nerve was damaged.
What is bsi that everyone keeps talking about?
I didn't really see much training in this video. The gauze just kept the knife in place I'm guessing?
Body substance isolation. Gloves and safety glasses or goggles (in the hospital it would also include gown or "apron" that is worn by the doctors and nurses dealing with a trauma patient but you may not have that available if you are first to respond to a scene.). Find some way to protect yourself and the wounded from cross contamination. If you have a first aid kit with gloves then use those. If you don't have that then use some sort of gloves. It is important to keep yourself safe from potential disease transmissible by blood and bodily fluids.
The gauze supposedly is to keep the knife in place but like NefFy's comment above stated use something more stable and secure. The gauze is likely to not hold the knife stable and allow it to move and potentially cause further damage while transporting so it is not really a good way to stabilize the knife. If you are not an EMT and you may potentially move the knife too much trying to stabilize it and emergency response is on the way then just make sure the patient is kept stable and they are not moving around and making the knife move around until first responders get there and stabilize the knife for transport.
But what if the knife was removed? All the same except there's less time for that, or victim's death is inevitable at this point?
Put pressure on the wound to try to control the bleeding and call 911. If you know how to apply a pressure dressing you can do that, if not then keep pressure on the wound until first responders arrive. Death is not necessarily inevitable but the chance of bleeding out is much faster if the knife or impaled object is removed so getting them to the hospital as quickly as possible is utmost importance.

That is generally called an "IFAK" which stands for individual first aid kit.

Not if it's Tylenol or a blood thinner and unless they're gonna die not alcohol either. Maybe if you carry a syringe of morphine with you but other than that probably not.

What happens if you remove that knife
Usually the bleeding would start up again and they could bleed out, even a little bit of movement could cause more damage on the inside.
Two things. The knife could cause more damage on the exit but more importantly the risk of bleeding out goes up drastically because there is nothing blocking bleeding out from the wound. The impaled object is plugging up the wound and thus restricting blood loss.
Fun fact: No one has been injured throughout this show :)))

My guess is to simulate a more realistic situation where someone may not have gloves available; i.e. you go with what you've got.
Pretty sure you don't have glove on the fly, you may even not have first aid kit, so use a shirt or stick to make that knife steady and stop bleeding while waiting for an ambulance.
