Hi! Nice reel! I upgrede my Tatula 100 LH with shallow spool I bought very cheap chinese spool for this reel. Stock spool 17,3 g, but chinese about 13. Now I can cast 5 g lures, maybe 4 g, about 20-25 meters. I will change handle to carbon and star drag to carbon again :)
you are good! my first time servicing my own baitcast reel I messed up. after I got done and when I spin the handle, it feels gritty. lol. from now on I'm going to send it in.
Cheers. The drag knob is on the list but it's not going to be easy. The shaft is longer than Zillion so Zillion knob won't fit neatly. I might have to trim the shaft ... But I am working on something else that not many people have done. Will put up soon.
thank you very much bro! i have'd buy a Tatula rod and Tatula type r baitcast combo... i will try to change thoose plastic bushings... thank's again! ✌
Astonishing, how to upgrade Daiwa Tatula. I'm seeking now for a light casting reel for fresh water fishing in Europe and I found this. I'm quite frequent traveller to Korea and never considered to try fishing or buy a stuff there. \= May you recommend some shop in Seoul with descent prices or on-line shopping, I'm gonna stay there for two weeks at the end of September.
Sorry Michal, I don't leave there now so can't help. However, it's not hard to find tackle shops in Seoul. You can haggle the price but the price of gear (well known brand) isn't cheaper than the States - my experience.
Sir great video to upgrade reel. I always stuck in that E-Clip and underneath bush. Is there any other video on "how to fix easly that E-clip " and does this size bearing what u showed in screen fit to Abu Garcia black max and Royale Legend baitcasting reel? How did u get.
I use electrician's pliers for e-clip and even removing/replacing spool pin. Great tool. You can see it being used in this video. Daiwa and Abu have different bearing sizes. Make sure you get the right size. Search the net for the bearing sizes.
Does the Tatula pinion gear support buy two bearing on both end like the zillion do? I love the fact it has a metal frame and the new TWS system, and you cant go wrong with the magforce z. The only thing this reel is lacking is the six stack washers drag system and the sixpoint ball bearing support drive drain.
No, Tatula pinion gear is not directly supported by two bearings. It is supported by the spool shaft and a bearing. It is different design to reels developed during TDZ Era. Personally I still prefer my Zillion and Fuego over the Tatula and the reasons as you pointed out plus quality of finish.
Hello there: In your opinion, would it be convenient to perform the same operation in Tatula HD type 200H reels? I mean, just the levelwind bearings. Are they plastic bushings too? or this model comes with metal bearings. Thanks for your comment.
+Elio V. Escovar Sorry I don't have Tatula HD but I also have Type R and Tatula HLC which have no levelwind bearings so I upgraded the same way as shown here. When I check the spes of HD, it also has 7+1 bearings so I would think it has bushings ...
Excellent video, do you have any link from the store where you can buy the bearings, otherwise this measurement of ruleman is the same as the tatula model ct100?
The bearings shown here are Boca bearings. You can buy from their web site: www.bocabearings.com/products/bearing-applications/fishing-reel-bearings?ProductType=2 If you want better (and more expensive) bearings you can get Hodgehog bearings from: www.hedgehog-studio.co.jp/ All Tatulas have same bearing sizes, in fact, Daiwa kept similar bearing sizes.
great vid, great work. have you tried the tatula in the salt? mine's having some problems with minor rust on the pinion and pinion bearings. they just need more care it seems on my reels but some of my friends' tatulas not so bad.
Thanks, frogistan. I use mine in salt all the time. Never had any issue with rusting. Maybe you need grease packed pinion bearing. I believe, apart from spool bearings, all bearings should be grease packed. Maintenance is the key to the reel's long life. After each session I wash in warm water, take out the side plate and spool and dry. Lightly oil and store away. Every dozen or so outings I carry out minor services (cleaning, oiling and greasing) and apply Inox lubricant (great stuff) over the body. Then, every year, I carry out major service - remove all grease and re-grease, clean and oil/grease bearings, clean drag washers and re-spool line.
where do you get those bearings? i wanna start super tuning some of my reels and with this video i'll be confident in doing it to my tatula... can you please send me a link to where i can acquire those same bearings
The bearings I used were from Boca Bearings. They are stainless steel ceramic hybrid bearings having ABEC#7 grade (ebay item 350886409943). They are not cheap and in my opinion that's a bit overkill. ABEC#3 or even ABEC#1 is good enough for the level wind. But make sure you get stainless steel bearings. Chrome bearings are a lot cheaper but they rust very easily. You can find them quite easily and cheaply from the auction site. The size to get is 4mm inside diameter, 7mm outside and 2.5mm thick. It's also known as SMR74C (S is for stainless). Don't get MR74C that's chrome bearing. Good luck
dDerDol Man just put in the bearings into my type r... doesn't feel like much of a change but just a bit smoother... thanks again though... can't wait to see what other things your gonna add to your tatula =D
Maihoua Moua Agree. Tatula itself is very smooth so a small improvement will not make it substantial. however, it does feel smoother. I am working on some thing :)
Well, before I make my opinion, I don't buy any reel that is constructed of PLASTIC frame. I call zaion or CI plastic. They are light but I don't believe they are durable or strong as aluminium frame. Since my Shimano TDL20 body warped under normal use I stopped buying plastic reels ... I wanted TWS so much but there was no way I would buy plastic T3 or Ballistic. Tatula's finish is not as good as some of more expensive Daiwa reels. But it is but quite sturdy. There are many plastic parts inside and out but most are not load bearing parts. If you look after your reel it should last long time.
+Heist Kade Are you going to replace all the bearings or just spool bearings? also, are you going to run them dry or wet? One of my Alphas has dry ceramic spool bearings and is very noisy. But runs very smooth.
+Heist Kade No, ceramic balls can run without any oil or grease (dry), wet when it has oil or grease. Don't take off the seal. Dirt gets in. I have a few reels with seals removed and I regret alot ...
Yes they are plastic and I doubt there are any metal replacement. However it's nothing wrong being plastic. They are not load bearing mechanism. Some of my more expensive reels are also plastic. Never failed.
I bought knobs from this seller. He has a few different types. www.ebay.com.au/usr/stone_metal_fire?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 Also there are few others. I found Basszone knobs are good quality. I have used ZPI knobs but now I use Basszones.
Patrick Greenhalge Ones that fit Daiwa will fit - all Daiwa knobs are same size. You have to however retain plastic bushings it comes with - or remove the bearing in Tatula knob and use that instead. So you'll have 3 bearings per knob.
I wanted to do this with mine tatula too but i couldnt get the sideplate off!! any help with the screws i got the handle and spool out but couldnt get the sideplate on the gear side
Are you saying you couldn't remove those funky screws Tatula has? You can do with a small flat screw driver. Or is your side plate not coming off after unscrewing? This happens to some reels due to grease and oil. Pry with a flat screw driver will eventually come off.
***** Sorry dude, can't help you there. I have opened up more than 100 reels and there were reels with stubborn screws and I couldn't get them out whatever and how hard I tried.
Those knobs are Basszone from Thailand. If you search 'basszone' from the ebay you will find a few sellers from Thailand. They sell about $55 per pair shipped. The quality is very good.
If you can insert the bearings like that without need to press them into the seat you will get a worse spin of the axle. Also on the wormgear you are not like to encounter either axial or linear forces so bushings are all good. Maybe upgrade to higher quality bushings but ceramic ball bearings? Common man, get a grip!
You can search ebay for '4 x 7 x 2.5 stainless bearing' or get from www.bocabearings.com. I bought mine from Boca but you can get same ones for cheaper from a chinese seller. Make sure you buy stainless steel bearing, SMR74. They are more expensive than Chromium Steel bearings. Ceramic hybrid bearings are a lot more expensive but I think that's an overkill.
Size is correct but make sure you get SMR74. MR74 is no good. It's chromium steel and gets rust so easily. The site sels both, make sure you get 'S'MR74
You need 2 bearings in size 4x7x2.5. Get either stainless steel or ceramic hybrid bearings. Don't get cheap chrome steel bearings. These will rust in 2 outings!
I just bought a Daiwa T3 with TWS today, I loosened the Drag and now I can't tighten it. Not used to baitcasters and this is my first one. I bought a left-handed T3 Ballistic, I had to pull line through the rod. I can't remember whether is was clockwise or anti-clockwise to loosen, now need to tighten it and I don't know which way to turn it, and it is stuck and moves only a few mm each way. Anybody have any ideas?
Maybe the clicker has stuck. Remove the handle and undo the knob (opposite direction to standard screw for lefty reels - anticlockwise to take out) and see the clicker. Hopefully it's simple fix.
dDerDol Man Thanks Man, that was it. I carefully removed the handle and saw the nut underneath, which I had to adjust and now have a better understanding of how the drag works. The reverse thread is tricky, but took my time and it came good. I won't loosen the drag as much as I did again, I think that was my mistake. *Thanks again, much appreciated.*
I thought of buying it since it so cheap compare to my Abu Rocket. but upon searching the problem on the net. shit this reel have so much problem. many people is selling it away.

What does the upgrade of worm shaft bearings do to the reel? Smoother retrieve? Longer cast? Little help please
Does not improve casting distance. However, noticeably smoother retrieve under load (big fish).
Worth upgrading imo.
thanks alot bro!
You should make more videos, great content for ppl who are more on the technical side
WHAT IS THE SIZE OF DAIWA TATULA CT WHEEL BEARINGS?
On the side plate it's 3x8x4, other end it's 3x10x4. Main gear bearing is 8x12x.3.5.
Level winders you can replace plastic bushings with 4x7x2.5
So, is there any difference after putting bearings instead bushings?
Friends say my reels are noticeably smoother than theirs. I am hoping that it's due to that additional bearings and good maintenance.
hello,do you know if the Tatula type r have the same platic bushings?
and if it have, are they easy the change? like on the regular Tatula?
thank you!
+Claudiu Monea Yes type R has exactly the same bushings. Changing them is exactly the same as standard.
Also the same for the brand new tatula 100 and 150... my reel is in pieces waiting on the bearings to come in from boca bearings
Good😀
