Daiwa Alphas Clicker Conversion
In this video I am going show how to upgrade drag star with micro-adjustment clicker on a standard Daiwa Alphas. It's same as Pixy to Pixilla.
Parts needed are:
1. Micro drag star clicker set, and
2. Drag star knob
Make sure you get correct left/right Clicker set and Drag Star.
It won't work on Alphas 150H. Alphas 150H is JDM version of the Daiwa Advantage.
All parts are from The Tackle Trap (tackletrap.com)
Thank you.

Tying Assist Hooks
มุมมอง 9K10 ปีที่แล้ว
This video shows how I tie my assist hooks for my beach jigs. It may be different to how others do. So, I put up this video. Note: I bought a spool of 50lb Dyneema braid from the auction site. Clearly, it wasn't 100% dyneema (or may be contain no dyneema at all) as it wasn't slippery as normal dyneema or spectra. I used it for flyreel backing until I noticed it was perfect for tying assist hook...

Servicing Daiwa Millionaire CV-Z 203 (Changing Bearings) (Re-post)
มุมมอง 19K10 ปีที่แล้ว
This is Daiwa Millionaire CV-Z 203. In this video I am going to clean up the drag washers and replace the old bearings with ceramic ball bearings from Boca. I clean drag washers at least once a year. Jerky drag is mainly due to water or oil penetration between the drag washers. Cleaning generally improves the drag performance. The drag washers of this reel are carbontex cut from a sheet (I have...

Cutting Carbontex Sheet to size - for reel drag upgrade
มุมมอง 67K10 ปีที่แล้ว
This is how I cut carbontex sheet to size. You can buy sheet of carbontex for fishing reel drag washers. You need to cut to size and this is how I do. It is quite easy and you can save a bit of money. Cheers. Thanks for watching.
Daiwa Tatula - How to upgrade
มุมมอง 133K10 ปีที่แล้ว
We all rave about the Daiwa Tatula, the new generation of T-Wing System (TWS). For me, TWS wasn't the only thing that sold me. It's also the aluminium body. I wouldn't have touched if it had Zaion body. Still, the Tatula has many plastic parts inside and out. I am going to replace them one by one. This video shows how I have done. Thanks for watching. If you are interested in reel servicing and...
How to Replace Riveted Handle Knob with Ball Bearing Supported Knob
มุมมอง 106K10 ปีที่แล้ว
I like Daiwa reels but my only gripe is their riveted handle knobs on mid priced reels. That applies to both baitcaster and spinning reels. To overcome this I decided to chop out the knob shaft (pin) and replace with new shaft with ball bearings. Knob is round aluminium bought from the auction site. It's easy as you can see but it does take a bit of time. So I have multiple of still photos to sh...
Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 6600C4 Supertuning

This video shows how I 'Supertune' my Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 6600C4. Drag has already been modified with Carbontex washers so that part is not shown. Following have been done. 1. Replaced handle with bearing supported 2. Replaced level wind worm gear with bearing supported one, 3. Replaced level wind drive cog with bearing supported one, and 4. Replaced spool bearings with ceramic hybrid ball b...
is it 1 of each bearing or are there 2 of the spool ones?
One of each. 3x8x4 and 5x11x4.
I would fear that increasing the drag surface so much and hooking into lets say a huge saltwater fish you might would see smoke come out of the reel ...lol I would say increasing drag material by lets say 30 to 40 % would be a safer bet .... unless you could increase the heatsink thickness.
Mmm..by increasing the friction area, you tighten less to achieve the same breaking strength. Less tightening = less heat generates. Sorry buddy, your physic theory is flawed.
@@dderdolman5736 only one disk to take all the heat .... Your theory is flawed
Very interesting although it's hard to know just how far to take "tuning". Now you could put pure ceramic ABEC9 in spool and there's a company modifying the outboard end of drive shafts to include a ball bearing there as well. It makes you think that people entering casting competitions totally removing the level wind system and the centrifugal brake entirely. Good video that allows you to see what's possible.
I have the exact same reel and couldn't help but notice you had a spacer behind each bearing or was I seeing things?
It's been a long time since I opened this reel and can't remember what's that for but yes there is a spacer.
What the name of the equipment for cutting
Calipers
kill the shitty music man,
Is this material available in local shops like construction shops?
I just found your channel..this is really helping me because most people using cnc to cut...thank you so much

No grease on the washer?
Wow man, that’s nice… I took mine apart and cleaned it and oiled it and it still feels like I’m grinding rocks…😅🤣
Were did you get the up grades
Chris, see the pinned comment above.

See pinned comments.
Can you tell me the dimensions of the drag washers?
I think it depends on gear ratio. The washer is sitting inside the main gear and main gear size varies to the gear ratio.
@@dderdolman5736 What was the ones in the video?
@@CrazyCranker 30mm outside 20mm inside diameter.
*Great reel, **enjoyable.fishing** recommend very smooth and I love that you can change from left hand to right hand so easily. Gave it a 4 on durability because I haven’t had it long enough to rate it. Doing good so far.*
That singer is terrible take the music off this .
If you kindly enough to share where you get the parts that will be a big compliment to your page but if you don’t say anything it’s just a simple video
If you look below comments there is a list of parts and their sellers. Unfortunately, this video was made 7 years ago. Not sure if those sellers are still selling. First stop check dadsoletackle. He has online shop.
@@dderdolman5736 thank you very much.
Is it mandatory to grind the gear and metal washers or can I just use less thick drag washers like 2x 5mm?
*2x0.5mm
No it's not. I grind the metal washers to make it flat and smooth to have good contacts. It is not for housing thicker carbon washer. Make sure your old washers have similar thickness.
the music sucks, but great video
Where did you buy the components for the shaft?
ebay. Make sure you buy knob and shaft. There are so many sellers selling for knob only - useless.
The Cabric plate brand is recommended to make them or which one would you recommend, thanks for the answer
Anyone wants to Supertune Abu reels get the parts from: www.ebay.com.au/str/dadsoletacklerodandreelparts No, it's not my shop.
좋네
does the thicknes of the carbontech matter?
Yes it does. If too thick you won't loosen up the drag. If too thin you won't tighten up the drag. Check your washer thickness first and get one similar in thickness.
Great video!
Top video!
Man that's awsome bro.. how much would u charge to do that to mine that's killer..
Sorry buddy not doing anymore.
Sure would be nice if you listed links to all the upgraded pieces :-)
If using on saltwater then big mistake, I changed back to bushing, just oiled them. Still smooth retrieves.
Yes if you use cheap chrome steel bearing. You have to use stainless steel bearings.
Perfect work, I like the way you do
I know this is an older video but I followed these steps and I cannot turn my reel handle at all unless I back way off the drag but then my handle spins and doesn’t take up line. Any suggestions?
Sounds like you placed the clutch wheel the other way around. The wheel with large teeth that sits behind the main gear.
@@dderdolman5736 that’s exactly what happened...crazy to think that the smallest clearance issue caused that problem. Thanks man
@@gabedeleon5256 Glad you fixed. It happened to me before :)
What is the name of the carbontex cutlery?
Calipers. They are available from hardware store.
Oke thanks 🙏🙏🙏
God! That "music" is hard to listen to
Thank you for the tutorial. My Diawa Millionaire (253LA) has been sitting on the shelf for a bit as the drag washers were worn to the point where I had to thumb it for drag... After installing both the carbontex drag washers, and the Boca bearings, my reel is back to new. Tight lines, brother!
Sir great video to upgrade reel. I always stuck in that E-Clip and underneath bush. Is there any other video on "how to fix easly that E-clip " and does this size bearing what u showed in screen fit to Abu Garcia black max and Royale Legend baitcasting reel? How did u get.
I use electrician's pliers for e-clip and even removing/replacing spool pin. Great tool. You can see it being used in this video. Daiwa and Abu have different bearing sizes. Make sure you get the right size. Search the net for the bearing sizes.
why didn't you disassemble/clean/grease the thumbar - that's where 90% of these reels fuck up. thanks
I admire you’re genius however that music always annoys me
what's that tweezer like thing you use to cut the washers called?
It's Calipers
Nice video. I've been looking for this video. I have same reel that makes some funny noise and wanted to know how to replace bearings. Cheers
Thanks Dick

*This spooler was exactly as advertised>>>**allabout.wiki/evtx** Relined my reels prior to going to Canada for a weeks fishing. I did not have one bird's nest the entire time of heavy casting and many fish. Highly recommend this spooler over the traditional way of horizontal winding. Eliminates twists in the line. Quality of the device is very well made. Everything needed is supplied (minus the line) so you are good to go immediately upon arrival. Easily packed in my tackle box in case I needed it. A must have for all serious anglers.*
RIP your reel. this set up is not made for saltwater, and this will spin faster than your reel and snap off 70% of your lures.
Sorry buddy, that reel is going strong and never seems to dying after 15 years of use in saltwater. Change bearings every 10 years and should last ummmmm.. 50 years.
You must of went back in time cause the c4 6600 reel in this video came out in 2011... I think my problem is I spent $80 on a kit that might have been lesser quality bearings. I greased and oiled my bearings and cleaned the reel once a week. And been servicing my reels since 2009 I decided to try the super tuned bearings after seeing your video(Amazing video by the way), after about 2 months the bearing was leaking oil from the worm gear bearing and bearing holding worm on the opposite side.
@@reddragonmirage All my bearings are either ceramic hybrid balls in stainless steel casing that are running dry (no oil) or shielded stainless steel ball bearings. Any bearings that are exposed to environment, like in worm gear and handles should be steel shielded. These days, most mini bearings sold are made in China (including Boca bearings) and their quality control is below par I reckon. Some good some not so. You must have bad ones. Try replacing the bearings.
@@dderdolman5736 lol I replaced every bearing on my Abu for this season, all abec 7 bearings. I used a bunch of grease now not as smooth as yours but man its 10x better then stock. I hope it doesn't corrode.
@@reddragonmirage Abec7 is overkill for fishing reels but having higher abec your chance of getting higher quality increase. Yep I have used them before for that reason. I use ceramic hybrid bearings for speed (spool bearings) and shield bearing for other areas. I grease pack all shielded bearings so no water can get in. Last so long. Glad that your reel feels better.
If you ever might want to remove it then use blue loctite not red.
Would this be overkill? dragonplate.com/quasi-isotropic-carbon-fiber-twilluni-sheet-2mm-x-6-x-6
You are not going to use this for reel drag washer, are you? It's 2mm thick. That's way too thick for drag washers. You only need 0.5mm or 1mm. Also, if you buy a 6"x 6" sheet that's enough for at least a dozen reels.
@@dderdolman5736 A kastking speed demon reel. I thought it might be enough room, glad I didn't get that sheet already. Never worked on reels. But I worked on many hobby grade RCs. These will be easy. I just wish companies weren't so lazy not bothering with displaying dimensions of screws, bearings, washers, slipper pads, spools, etc in part list explode sheet. I had a 4x4 rc that used rubber like slipper pegs, swapped them out for pure Si3N4 balls & it surprised me, upgraded my bearings to it too right after lol. Sorry I went a bit off topic. I'm just surprised how little detailed majority of reel manual parts list is. What braid lines do you use(if you do)? I use to fish a decent amount but after I lost all my gear in a fire, I kinda drifted away from it yrs ago. Lately I been wanting to get back into it again. Seen this reel for a good deal & figured why not. 9.3:1 ratio, 9 magnet brakes, & split shaft for 45 shipped.
@@RainWalker24c Losing your gear in fire would be devastating. I know the feeling. Since some low-life stole my rifles I stopped hunting. That was many many years ago. Never held a gun since. I think the reason why manufacturers don't list part details is that so they can sell it for a ridiculous price. For example, you can buy bearings at a fraction of the cost of genuine parts. Bearing sizes are easy to know. A sheet of carbon fiber is cheaper than a set of washers. Most of my older reels have Tufline XP. New ones with Sufix832.
Sir can we use two drag washer in the place of old one drag washer. If we would use two washer replacing one old washer from low profile baitcasting reel, so what would happen? Will it work smoothly?
I don't think you can. Drag washers get too thick and you may not be able to adjust the drag. That's why you need to select same or similar thickness washers when you replace with carbontex.
Where we can get this sheet. Nice tips
If you're from the States, best place is from smoothdrag.com You ask for a sheet.
