I know this is an older video but I followed these steps and I cannot turn my reel handle at all unless I back way off the drag but then my handle spins and doesn’t take up line. Any suggestions?
+Steve Valentin If you're from the States, best place is from smoothdrag.com You have ask for a sheet. If you're from Australia, www.downriggershop.com.au/carbontex-drag-washers.html
No it's not. I grind the metal washers to make it flat and smooth to have good contacts. It is not for housing thicker carbon washer. Make sure your old washers have similar thickness.
+xiiaokeon987 sorry i was in hurry when i type earlier response. The main washer (larger one) is 1mm thick and the bottom one is 0.5mm. If you use too thick washer on the bottom one the main and pinion gear may not line up.
I have a problem after i changed new drag(still stock drag of shimano but i buy a new one) for my shimano conquest. And when i turn the handle it feel heavy and at some point it feel like stuck or heavier. And when i hold the spool and turn the handle my reel feel normal(still a little heavy). But when i adjust the brake and it feel stuck again. Can you please help me with this. Thanh you so muc. Ps : sorry for my bad english
I can only think that it maybe that your new drag washers are too thick, so it touches the casing. If this is the case, you can grind the metal washers like I've done here in this video.
dDerDol Man i already did that but it still the same, when turn the handle it feel like stuck at some point not all around the drag, and one more question, i should use oil or grease on shimano drag ( seem like datanium drag )
dauxoan I don't have Shimano reels so I am not sure what is happening with your reel. Conquest is a good reel but unfortunately it has Shimano written on it :) - it means, in my book, problems. Dartanium drags suppose to have grease. Apply light coat of Cal's grease.
You sseusinayo any grease? I wrote a mix of molybdenum grease and silicone grease I am writing a Teflon or oil viscosity five days You sseusinayo what oil?
Inox oil is lanolin based lubricant made in Australia. It is safe on any plastics and doesn't dry out. It is very good for general lube including bearings but if you want super high speed bearings there are better oils.
+susanthao01 When all area has been ground that's when you have to stop. You will see some patch marks at the start, keep grinding until all area has been smoothly ground.
+Salvatore Alfredo I just measured old washers and they are 32mm and 23mm. If you want to upgrade, the smaller one (on the bottom) can be as big as 32mm. The middle hole is 9mm for both (in fact all Daiwa reels are same).
I would fear that increasing the drag surface so much and hooking into lets say a huge saltwater fish you might would see smoke come out of the reel ...lol I would say increasing drag material by lets say 30 to 40 % would be a safer bet .... unless you could increase the heatsink thickness.
Mmm..by increasing the friction area, you tighten less to achieve the same breaking strength. Less tightening = less heat generates. Sorry buddy, your physic theory is flawed.
Altex lan I have the full range of megabass and daiwa reels including the Tatula I have caught giant barramundi on it with out a problem. I know the type of person you are, you like to buy all the top end gear but at the end of the day you catch fuck all you just like to show off and tell people you own reels that are worth over $500 but don't even know how too skip cast or catch half decent size fish😂😂😂😂... buying high end gear won't make u a better fisherman.
Great video. I'll attempt this one for sure.
Thanks. It will improve the performance.
cool, i have to do this one day and the replacement of the bearings.
Drag pad where he saved? What is the exact name?
Hello, congratulations to the videos, could you tell me what is the numbering of the bearings for the handles of daiwa tatula CT?, Thank you.
4x7x2.5 or SMR74C. All Daiwa and Shimano handles use this. Make sure you get stainless steel bearing pack with grease.
Thank you.

Sounds like you placed the clutch wheel the other way around. The wheel with large teeth that sits behind the main gear.
@@dderdolman5736 that’s exactly what happened...crazy to think that the smallest clearance issue caused that problem. Thanks man
@@gabedeleon5256 Glad you fixed. It happened to me before :)
Hi! Please help me; Where can I find a carbon sheet like in your video? Thank You! :)

Is it mandatory to grind the gear and metal washers or can I just use less thick drag washers like 2x 5mm?
*2x0.5mm
No it's not.
I grind the metal washers to make it flat and smooth to have good contacts. It is not for housing thicker carbon washer.
Make sure your old washers have similar thickness.
Stock Tatula max drag 6kg/13.2lb.. after upgrade, how much do max drag increase?? I'm planning to get upgrade too
awesome!
Awesome 👍
Hi, whats the thickness of the drag washer you used to replace?
+xiiaokeon987 1mm and 0.5mm
+dDerDol Man either one or both? does it make any dif? its my first time upgrading reels.
+xiiaokeon987 sorry i was in hurry when i type earlier response. The main washer (larger one) is 1mm thick and the bottom one is 0.5mm. If you use too thick washer on the bottom one the main and pinion gear may not line up.
+dDerDol Man no problem sir, thank you :)) will try it soon
I admire you’re genius however that music always annoys me
What do you think the max drag is now? Stock settings are around 13#'s.
I don't have proper equipment to measure the drag but I would say 10-20% increase.
Drag got a lot smoother (no jerkiness) especially at tighter lock.
thanks dDerdolMan
Can you tell me the dimensions of the drag washers?
I think it depends on gear ratio. The washer is sitting inside the main gear and main gear size varies to the gear ratio.
@@dderdolman5736 What was the ones in the video?
@@CrazyCranker 30mm outside 20mm inside diameter.

nice one bro..tumbs up 4 u👍
What thickness did you use?
1mm for top and 0.5mm for the bottom of main gear.

이재선 I don't use grease on carbontex. But for other drag washers I use Cal's grease.
For oil in the reel, I use Inox oil.
What are the components of the oil Innox
I'm looking to put the oil in the bearing
Inox oil is lanolin based lubricant made in Australia. It is safe on any plastics and doesn't dry out. It is very good for general lube including bearings but if you want super high speed bearings there are better oils.
so how do you know when to stop grinding?
