Man, this guy talks super smooth and calm. How can one be so calm when catching that giant? Really impressive and nice video. His skipping skill is maaad.
Dude!?!?!? this has to be one of the best Skipping Videos i have ever seen. Your are amazing at it. thanks for sharing the video. still in awwww from what i just saw.
I don't know what Don is on about, you gave exactly what people need to get started and beyond. If the guy is impressed with a rig, he's gonna talk about it. Great video, Thanks!!
I think we're missing the real issue here guys... Brett was fishing in near blizzard conditions. Cold hands (reduced sensitivity). The man was skipping a jig with heavy gloves on! That blows my mind. I have just learned to skip baits over the last year. It's tough enough to have excellent control in fair weather and bare hands since feathering the spool is absolutely vital. So, however good you think he is, multiply that by about five! Also, he's absolutely correct about the forehand skip being very different than the backhand skip. Two totally different techniques. Advise: If you really want to learn how to skip well, quit watching all these videos and get out and practice for an hour everyday til you get it. NOBODY can teach you how to skip but YOU and that's a fact. Gotta learn some things the hard way. It's exactly like a great golf swing. Takes a lot of WORK!
Brett, this was such a great vid on so many levels. The camera work, scene selection and editing were amazing; Kudos to your production folks. The Diawa equipment, as well as the set up description was excellent. Lastly, your casting skills and perseverance in blizzard conditions was extremely impressive. I distinctly remember that it wasn't too long ago that the heavy snows collapsed docks and sunk all kinds of watercraft up there at LOZ. Nicely done. Don, Springfield, MO
That was awesome man those skips were longer than some people throwing rocks it would be nice if you did a instructional video on it cause when I try it bird nest heaven. ... you are da man!!
never did finish watching this. I started it a while ago and it was recommended today for some reason. I didn't need to finish watching it the first time because i realized what my problem was...not wearing big fat mitts.
That's an Adrenaline Flipping Jig, its in the V&M Pacemaker Series designed by Cliff Pace. The design on the back of the head is concave and it makes the jig skip better than a flat head. It's SICK!
Great video, I learned a lot about skipping and how to set up my reel. That's what I was looking for. I'll give these tips. Thank You!! What was the jig you were using?
The jig used here is the flipping jig in V&M's Pacemaker Series available @ BayouOutdoors.com. Check them out on twitter @BayouNation or Instargram @VandMBaits!! Give the fish what they really want.
I agree with almost everything he said except for the heavy powered casting rod and 5/8 oz jigs. That shit will sink more often than skip effortlessly. He must skip extra hard. Medium Heavy casting rods with fast or moderate-fast tapers are way better too. Length can range from 6'6 foot to 7 foot. Matters with what's most comfortable with the guy's height and arm room. 3/8 and 1/2 oz jigs are way easier to skip too. 3/8 more than 1/2. I usually use 14lb or 17lb test lo-vis green mono cause fluorocarbon is too expensive unless I'm fishing clear lakes or in a bass tournament then I'll use 20lb fluoro. Also the casting reel really doesn't matter but the more expensive ones with better braking systems will allow you to skip further once you get good at it. So that's my two cents.
+faithandfury Everything this guy's doing makes 100% sense given his skill level and the lake he's fishing. There's nothing to disagree with here. If you've got the ability, you're going to have better results skipping heavier jigs on heavier fluoro around dock cables, angle iron, and brush piles.
Revo SX 7.1 7 ft, Falcon lizard dragger 2, 20lb Zo-zuri half oz. Sparkie or Arkie head. that works for me, this is i nice vid. just thought it might help. also hitting the Gym helps with skipping harder. lift some weights and ya can make it happen.
hum.. should rephrase that part of magforceZ on Hd. its a fix spool on the tatula HD. unless I got it wrong... but sure I dont because I own one. disappointed... but understandable, its a deep spool with no room for it.
Not much real info on this ""How to Pitch and Skip Boat Docks"'Its more about the Daiwa real and rod, and line.. Does not tell you much about how to do it... Waste of time
Hmmm - I got information weight / length of rod, how to set up tension and brakes on reel, line type/weight, and a good, go-to skipping method. I thought it was pretty good. Of course there's an obvious marketing aspect though....someone's gotta pay the bills.
I watch this over and over the skipping is incredible
Excellent video and very informative. Nothing better than fishing out of a boat while it's snowing.
Great fish on a nasty day. Very impressive.
Gene! Wats up bud? Ur my idol brotha, tell me u can't skip like this dood I no u can

Great Video!
Great information
Awesome video! Have you ever skipped anything besides a jig and trailer. Like 4 to 6 inch paddletail minnows?
The Ozarks are in my back yard!
Neat technique! It seems counter intuitive that lead could skip across the water, but seeing is believing.
Nice vid! My wife said you need a life vest. LOL
Your a great skipper no doubt
Great video man
best skipper I've seen with the exception of swindle, thrift, montgomery but they are pros
Awesome vid!

Yea thats neat, but I bet you can't drop shot. Just kidding:) Incredible skipping, great video sir.
My brain blew up into a birds nest after this video. Skipping should be an Olympic sport, way cooler than synchronized swimming 🏊.

Brett can you make an in depth video on how to back hand skip lures ie frogs and jigs
making it look effortless...how?
Does anyone know which brand of jig he was using? I can’t find the “gilled” Arky Head any where.
What is the name of the jig?
Never seen that jig on the market.
What kind of gloves is he use in

Would a Knot conntecting say 40lb braid to 20lb flourocarbon mess up the skip??? Thank you for the help in advance
mostlyfishing prob not
I know this is an older video now but what gear ratio do you prefer to use for skipping?
7:3 and faster gear ratios for pitching and skipping.
someone got a link for this beautiful fishing rod? thanks!!
