My dream and goal is to form a tribe of us who have to live in our vehicles to park together on the outskirts of the city and live a wholesome peaceful life and then just a few of us can commute into the city for supplies while the rest stay and protect our belongings and vehicles. Or Park on somebody's in exchange for a or help
A number of us live in our vans and buses in Eugene, Or. in the mid 90's through the early 2000's, but because we weren't real discreet we had problems with the police. Hope your idea works better than it did for us. Individuals can generally make it alone in small cities, but S.F. is a big city with high crime. Maybe try Marin county.

More and more people are going to be living in their cars/ vans after this economic collapse due to the PLANdemic

Damn shame, they've served in the military, I know they don't pay that much because my husband was in the Navy & we struggled too but it shouldn't be that way!!!!
That shocked me when they said they were in the military. I thought the military paid more than that....
Fortunately in the state of Tn. your vehicle is considered to be your home and you are allowed to carry protection in your vehicle if needed, it would be considered the same as someone breaking into your home. Look up the castle doctrine. Best to ya from Tn.

I'm so very thrilled to be here. Thanks for capturing these shipmates and their stories. Oftentimes people hear mean say veteran and assume that my streets are paved in gold. Little do they know. I wanted to do this when I came out of service in 1998 for very similar reasons and everyone I knew was against it. Had I had the support of a community, I'd be in a much better place.
The Carla W It is wise to not discuss your dream, desires with others... especially when “ others” is your family .... the folks that care about you the most and often consumed by fear... they’re afraid for you... interesting that fear and love is assumed to share the same space.. makes you question what really is love... really..

Eve. I think you missed the point. They are both students in college. I doubt driving a truck would work for them right now. Perhaps these two intelligent beings already considered that.

I would like more and more of my people aware of this way of living. It's much better than being evicted from your home. It is cost savings and freeing. It is worldwide as seen in many videos here on YT. including on parking and safety.
After retiring, I couldn't believe how my expenses plummeted due to not having to go to work. Looking into doing this in the next couple of years or so.
No rent, no mortgage, no utility bills, no property taxes, and still have a means of transportation. Not every place is like S.F. or L.A. when it comes to stealth living.
I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. They are a lovely couple.

Thank you so much for this video. I have watched a ton of van life videos that show a fairytale view of van nomads and this is so credible to me. I don’t know if your challenges reflect what it is like to be a black nomad in America or simply because it seems that you are alone or both, but I am glad you made this video. It saddens me to see two ex- military personnel treated so disrespectfully by the police. You seem so in love, may your journey be blessed!

Thanks for sharing and research youngblood and do the repairs yourself. I'm 54 and research everything before I pay to get it repaired. TH-cam can just about teach you anything. I would as invest in a dog. They able to sense wrong doing before it happen. What about a surround motion detector? Be careful and safe.

But isn’t van life kind of rough, like living kind of rough? Who can stand to do that all the time? What about community, church, recreation, vacation?
It is rough but paying $1, 000 or more every month for rent while knowing if something happens at any point the landlord will throw you and your stuff on the street and being forced into bondage with a God-Awful job that's giving you health problems but you can't leave the miserable job because you need to pay the rent (vicious cycle) It makes the freedom of this lifestyle with all the hardships worth it...

Wonderful!! I have been thinking of this lifestyle for at least a year now. I watch tons of videos, but the one thing lacking is what it's like from a black man or woman's perspective. I too am a Nave Vet, and I know we have different travel experiences sometimes than our white sisters and brothers... it's sad, but it is also true. Omg! BEAUUUTIFUL couple! We're a late 20-something Army veteran couple too (I, the female, have locs, as well..."tyvm inclusive regulations" lol). We've stayed in our [compact] car for a few weeks until we pretty much MOVED into an extended stay hotel after ETS'ing 1 month apart. This was even after saving up enough money which should've lasted 2 years, at LEAST. Our situation was due to one of us having had an eviction earlier in life. Even with one of us having decent credit, and the other having DAMN good credit, apartments were not forgiving, and considered one of us a risk. Racist? We still prevailed, and I'm stubborn, so I wouldn't leave; even with family in the area. We're in a lovely apartment now, and building our $ back up to where it was ~9mo. ago, in the meantime. I have personally always admired #vanlife though lol. A VOLUNTARY lifestyle, no doubt. I do find it very disturbing & discouraging that they deal with such harassment from police, intrinsic bias, and house-less & desperate individuals violating your property. That's horrific and unfair in every way. Stay safe! Sorry about your insurance too 😖. I will be subscribing to their channel -- as well as this one -- in order to follow this couple's journey. That would be my greatest fear. A break-in. But come on Lavelle, that window replacement is really not hard. There is a TH-cam video that shows you how to do everything under the Sun. If your vehicle is out of Warrantee - stop thinking only the dealer can fix it. Leaving your vehicle with all of your personal belongings in a repair shop - Bad Thought. That's terrible.
Also, never leave your vehicle anyplace where you have to wait for any part. Only leave it “after” the part has arrived.
And, don’t forget about Car Junk Yards. Your vehicle is a very popular model. There is no such thing as - “Used Glass.” You can often find a window glass in a Junk Yard and they may even be able to put it on for you. And there’s sometimes guys hanging around there, that will fix it for $20.
IMPORTANT:
Don’t Hesitate To Put A Sign In Your Window. - “This Vehicle Is Occupied.” Do Not Disturb.”
That way maybe only Police will have the nerve to knock on your door.
Also, a small (diode type) alarm light can be found in any Auto Parts Store. You don’t even need to attach a real alarm to it. It runs on the van battery for days with no drain.
Just stick it up in the front window.
That's why I would prefer some type of trailer.
If your pulling vehicle breaks down. You still have your home. And you can always rent a vehicle with a towing hitch. Think about it.
Hitting the road never leaves my mind.
Be Safe.
Glass takes exactly 2 or 3 hours btw. . . Google a company and they'll have your glass (readily local for around $150) plus install. They will fix it while you wait - don't be dramatic for "likes" and Algorithms. Nice job though for sure! Good Luck.
Old DAV Vet here. Look at commercial/industrial properties for people that might be quite willing to have you stay on their business property at night. Visit/Join the Vet Service clubs for possible leads on places to stay and side job possibilities. All The Best, USMC AirWing 77-81.

I worked for a big Insurance Company (LM)for 35 years, there is no deductible for glass. You don’t pay anything unless you’re not carrying Comprehensive coverage.
You aren’t “homeless” you’re just “houseless.” It was your choice to live in a van! Good for you! Keep on traveling and living your dream... just hopefully with less breakins.

Actually depending on your deductible, it might be cheaper to just replace a window yourself, why pay a $250, 500, $1000 deductible and raise your rate with claim when you can get a window installed for $200?
