@@ianremsburg613 I doubt it. She seems very happy with her job, because she is doing what she wants to do and so is staying in the area even if it means living in a van. She could go live in a cheaper city and do a job that she hates. Then I'm sure she would be miserable. All humans are emotional unless they are dead. It’s funny, she looks much happier than anyone I know living in an expensive apartment, condo, or house. I want to have a joy like that, she’s awesome!
The Dawn of Vanlife I saw your later videos and what you have done but this is a great reminder of how to begin simple and change based on your experience in the van and as money permits.
Hiya Dawn...do you still have that cot? What brand is it..ive been looking for cots that are that high or close to it for storage..you've come a long way baby, lol👍❤
Not paying rent while working full time is a bautiful beautiful thing. It was the only time in my life i was ahead on my bills and i couls afford anything i needed, or even wanted. I can't say enough good things about van life
As a former San Franciscan I deeply admire and appreciate Dawn for sticking it to overpriced, self-impressed San Francisco. I love you Dawn & your Spartan way of life.
I think she mentioned a couple of times "and I'm not paying rent". That is the motivational statement in this and many other mobile living arrangements. I think that when people realize that they don't need to spend hours every week/month slaving and being humiliated at one or more jobs just in order to turn over their hard-earned income to a landlord, that ends up being very liberating. I am not living in a van myself since I own my home, however, the videos I watch are inspiring and I feel like telling people that we were not born to be slaves of any kind to other people. So we need to stop trying to copy the lives of others that put us in situations that eventually enslave us and our children.
My sister’s boyfriend bought a house he couldn’t afford because he believed that was what he “should “ do. And the real estate agent convinced him he *could* afford it so she could make a bigger commission. He earned a modest living as head of a small school maintenance crew. After a few months of being too broke to pay all his utilities and buy enough food because his mortgage payments were so high, he killed himself. I think about him every time I watch one of Bob’s videos and I’m sure his tragic story is just one of many.
This is what actual joy of living looks like! Dawn, you are like a true ray of sunshine beaming through my screen. Just watching you speak and smile has made my day. Thank you 💝
"Start paying yourself the rent" well said Bob! And thank you for introducing us to Dawn. She is living in one of the strictest to park cities. Good to see someone make it work where I was born and raised in the bay.
I love this girl’s attitude. So practical and self-reliant. San Francisco should be hiring her to solve their housing problems. She would be a great person to have share her story at the RTR. Great video, Bob!!
I'm sure you mean no harm but she's a grown woman, just like the interviewer is a man, not boy. She's self reliant, hard working, has a great attitude and deserves conscious respectfulness.
OMG! I love how free spirit these people are. After 2 years watching and admiring them, I finally bought my Pormaster Oct. 2019. I’m in the middle of converting it now. I hope to meet some of these fine people. 🥰
Amen. Wish i could be with bob dee carolyn sueann sarah lee etc. Rtr. Group. My finances wnd husband wont let me. Love you all. I pray for you all. So just get out there and do it. Life is to short. You only have one life to live. I would be a nomad if i could. Experience the freedom of freedom. Save the rent money. I cant see making house payments for 30 yrs. Why. Why pay rent for 30 yrs. Well im forced to rent. Ive been locked up in apts. Renting for 47 yrs. I cant stand it. If i omly had a house to sell i would. All the moneys ive spent for 47 stinking yrs. I could of paid cash for everything. Be debt free. But o had no choice. Low paying jobs. Working long hours. Back to backs. All shifts. I was a slave. As everyone is in the workforce to put money im the rich persons pocket. We all are. We are working to pay taxes. The left over change is for what. The poor get poorer. The rich get richer. Thank you all.
Dawn is a lovely spirit-- and such a great smile and laugh she has! What an inspiration she is for all of us who are still in 'hold pattern'. Thanks for this great interview, Bob & Dawn!
Girl look at you now! Car, Minivan, full-size van and now your box truck! I love Bob and Dawn you folks are so inspirational to us still stuck in the sticks and bricks
Yay, Dawn! I'm glad they featured you on cheap rv living. I've been in a Camry in the city for awhile, and also want to upgrade my vehicle size. Thanks!
I. Want a step van. I have a simple built thought out. I need the money. Im broke. So i can dream. Im on low income. And 74 yrs old. But im healthy enough to live a nomad life. My husband to. He cant find a job for 2 yrs. Now. Hes a hard worker. But dallas texas has no jobs available for him. Everyone is doing his job in groups. Nobody wants a mom and pop team. Comtracted painter.
All I know is I cannot wait to get "out there". I presently own a VW Passat wagon but hope to find a van for more room. I wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a new year full of joy and hope See you Soon, Louise from Los Osos,California
The relief of NOT paying astronomical rent and utilities for an eternity is enough to make me happy and stress free, way2go go Dawn! Good mental, physical health, happiness and the ability to spend money on your terms is the good life. 👏🏾💖💛💚💜
Dawn, you rock! Human soap!!! Dang!!! I just about fell over laughing!!! I have 4 legged kiddos and my hubby and I differentiate between their stuff and ours by saying Human vs. Kiddos. I once caught my hubby almost using the dog shampoo before we did that. I get it though, rent only ever goes up. And it makes sense to me to have the essentials close. Imagine if you left something at home for work, you can be like, oh dang on it's in my van, I'll be right back!
Yay! 👏 I’m glad that you were able to get on his video interview. I also watch his videos about many people that have chosen a life of a home on wheels.
To make it in SF that's great....I know before I turned 65 my most $$$$ was my medical insurance as I am self employed..and I had to have that...Dawn has a great outlook on life..
A great dose of reality has made this lady so happy , a person should not be able to own more homes than they can live in , your not paying rent to these types of people and a weight has been lifted , I believe in The One Home Ownership Law
Love her spirit! She's someone who chooses to be happy and appreciates what she has versus lamenting what she doesn't. Making her life simpler and happier by making her wants and needs less. Thanks for interviewing her Bob!
What a positive personality and bubbly laugh to go with that 1000 Watt smile. Who wouldn’t want to be friends with her? She’s smart, so she made it work for her.
Thought I'd watch for a couple of minutes then bug out to something else, but Miss Dawn is a delightful human with a positive, "Can Do" spirit. I watched from beginning to end with fascination. She is a born teacher. I learned so much! Thank you, Dawn! Many Blessings on you. :)
Dawn, I think it is helping you that you have a nice-looking vehicle. In pricier neighborhoods, which tend to be safer (we think), if you had something old, trashy or beat up it would definitely be attracting attention from those high-rent paying (and probably not real happy about that) people.
This is true. Dave Ramsey said the police use to always stop him when he went broke. They said the raggedy car didn’t belong him that type of neighborhood.
Dawn is such a lovely person, I love her laugh and approach to life. She really shows how without much money you can still start van life and potentially avoid those high rents. Thank you Dawn for a tour of your well organized van as well as your positive attitude towards life, you are awesome! She truly is an inspiration, thank you Bob for another great video!
Awesome video! I do some of the same tricks she does for washing dishes, hygiene, water. Love the steering wheel desk. Need to get one! And her attitude and smile are inspiring!

She is definitely smarter than people living beyond their means
She's awesome. She's so free and happy. And when she said she's relatively poor, I thought, no you aren't. You're richer than you realise. Amazing :)

You are very inspiring Dawn, you have a great attitude.
She is selling this van life!!! I almost want to buy! You have definitely removed a lot of the stigma of living in your car.

A really friendly young lady that has learned alot. She is excited about van life. Thanks Dawn . And Bob thanks.
