If you notice, Red Rush was attacking from angles that Omni-man wasn't directly looking at. Omni-man picked up on that and on his third punch intentionally glanced one way in order to bait a hit and grab Red Rush. Red Rush probably thought he was safe going in for potshots like that.

I love this scene because the rest of the episode is fairly upbeat in tone and then at the end, all of a sudden, you get blindsided by this and then you get a taste of how the show’s actually gonna be.
I also love it, because it doesn't *glorify* the violence. It shows how genuinely brutal and heartbreaking this kind of thing should be.

That’s how I pitched it to my friends. It’s basically an old school Saturday morning cartoon about superhero’s, that semi frequently gets dark/gritty by showing the actual violence superhero’s could do.
I just started watching it a few hours ago, and HOLYYYYYYYYYYY... I thought it was gonna be later in the season but NAH beautiful gory fight scene shoved down my throat
I remember telling my friend how good this show was and watching the first episode with him. The episode finished and he was like “ehh, it’s okay I guess”. I’m like “WAIT there’s an end credits scene!”. He then wanted to binge the rest of the show right there
Red Rush was the true hero here. He noticed Nolan, he saved everyone but couldn't save himself. He also made the most damage. A true MVP

The part that really hit me the most for some reason was Red Rush's death. His desperate attempts to keep punching Nolan so that he could break free even to the point where he would crush his own fists and resort to hitting him with his forearms. Absolutely insane, this was so early on as well, I thought it would be later in the season but damn.
I think Red Rush easily had the most brutal death. He told his wife just before the fight that it feels like he perceives everything really fast, like everyone is in slow motion. His death was already slow in our eyes… imagine how slow it must’ve been for him…

After the first REAL death, there is no dramatic hero music, it suddenly takes a turn when Omni man grabs the speedster, it then stops, and all that could be heard is blood spilling, and an absolute bloodbath
The no music part makes it really unsettling
What’s really is unsettling is the fact he experiences everything in slow motion even while his head being crushed...but I liked red rush dammit he was cool

Everything about this scene is amazing. The way Omni man FIRST goes for a sneak attack on the strongest guy, the way he picks up on Red Rush attacking where he’s not looking, how he dodged the Batman looking guy’s not batarangs the second time cuz they stung more than he anticipated, not hesitating to use her mace thing since it was definitely hurting him the most THIS is what makes a good action scene, the thoughts that end up making the whole thing make sense. So damn good.
Don’t forget how fast he changes strategies based on the situation, initiating aiming for the heavy hitters like War Woman and the Immortal guy but then as he realises just how strong the supporters are like the fish guy, red rush, and the bat guy he specifically starts targeting them

Notice how Omni man doesn’t say a single word during all of this. We find out later in the show he wants to conquer earth for Viltrum because he believes that’s what’s right, but after spending time on earth with the guardians, Debbie, and the people of this planet he’s grown to like them. Yet he still feels obligated to his people so he has to go through with this, but he doesn’t like it at all hence why throughout all this he’s completely stoned face not saying a word because he has to kill his friends. Make no mistake if this was Homelander he’d be having way to much fun with it and gloating along the way, But Omni man you can tell he’s conflicted.

@@Skwaktopus133 the comics confirm that Omni man cared about the guardians, the reason he brought them together to kill them was because if he killed them one by one he would get second thoughts so he killed them all in a group so it could get finished quickly, in an alternate timeline invincible warns the Guardians about Omni man and they defeat Omni man and Omni man gets redeemed without killing many innocents, he says to invincible "If you didn't stop me I would've done horrible things, I would have killed the guardians, they were my friends, thank you"

I don't think people realize that Red Rush got his face smushed in about maybe 0.1 seconds. That's why nobody could do anything, it's because he died basically instantly as soon as his punch was caught. We just saw the slow-mo so that we got an understanding of what was happening

He was sent there by his race to conquer the Earth, not "to protect and guard the Earth". So, he doesn't want anyone potentially in his way. He's just like Goku, that was originally sent to Earth to conquer it, but he obviously doesn't want to. Omniman does.

The thing I love about this show is the subtle details, and it's kept consistent and linear as the scene continues. In a lot of animations, they'll capture subtlety but then in the next frame it's gone. The producers of this show kept their eyes on every little thing. Mad respect for how they pulled this off!

there's many inconsistencies and mistakes by the producers in this show, however i would agree that the dynamics of each character and the fight scenes/motivation feel organic given the context of the full story

I love the touches of humanity/realism from omniman all through out the fight. Like at 2:54 where he is genuinely tired, drops the imposing super powerfull villain facade, and breaths in relief that's its over. Even his postures breaks down. Something similar happens at 3:12, where it really show how much of a toll physical and psicologically it took on him.
Despite being told to conquer Earth, and wipe out their defenses, he did bond with the Guardians in some sense, having to fight and kill the people you called friends for the greater good would do that to anyone.
It’s not a facade though, he’s actually a super villain.

Sorry but no, it was better to do that for him because he was told it was, and admit, there many of his species stronger that him, and he could kill all of them by himself without being much damaged, if it wasen't him, someone else would have done it, and that someone else could have just not cared and decide to destroy Earth for no much reason, for him, it was inevitable, and he was right too looking that some showed up later on

It feels refreshing to me when Immortal says "I choose us." The guardians are heroes, but they're still also people who want to live and who can recognize when a situation is out of their control.

There’s a small detail that kinda lets you know that Omni Man has been properly trained to kill. When he tries to kill each Guardian, he always goes for the head as it’s the best way to ensure that they don’t survive
He also might just want to get it over with as quickly as possible. Despite his best efforts to distance himself from them, he did care for the guardians, so he definitely didn't enjoy this fight.
Not really,the best way to crash a team is to severely wound 1 person. So they have to protect him while fighting you.

I think the most heart wrenching thing about this was before the fight started. We saw them going on about in their civilian lives, and knowing that they had friends and family.

The way redrushes fists turn into flails as he feels his head get crushed in slow motion is great detail to me. He FELT every. Little. God damn millisecond of that.
Rush's hands and wrists were probably shattered by that point, but he kept hitting. He wouldn't stop fighting to live.

I absolutely LOVE how the music just completely stops after Red Rush's death, and for the rest of the scene it's just the visceral noises and sounds of the fight... and the deaths. Really, really good dramatic choice. Gives the whole scene so much more OOMPH and gravitas.
As someone else said, it feels like the show itself knows that this *shouldn't* be happening.

I liked this change from the comics. Most of the changes I don’t mind, or just don’t notice, but this one grounded it a bit more. In the comics, Omni man comes out without a scratch, and comes home talking about how perfect everything is going. Both directions were great, but this feels better for the narrative of the show.

@@OzzyPorrasnobody even knew he was there, the flaxen stuff was also heavily modified because it was soon after the GotG death scene. The big changes are Mark and Nolan being the only ones fighting them, they’re in the arctic, and Nolan gets kidnapped by the flaxans later rather than chasing them to their home world
My favorite detail is the intense, cartoon-like fight music that plays, and then after the first kill, it is just complete silence for the rest of the fight. Really sets in the tone of just "wow, that actually just happened."
The frightening thing about Omni Man is his tactical ability. He immediately goes after the Immortal, likely the strongest and thus the highest probable threat. Once Red Rush poses a counter threat, Omni Man changes tactics and takes him out. This whole fight he repeatedly alternates between countering the powerhouses like Immortal and War Woman, and taking out their support in the others.

Yh immortal was the strongest but red rush was the most pivotal to this fight. Imo He should have stayed back as support as the others went on the offensive. And if Omni man was about to land any fatal blow he would come in to intervene ( like how he did at the beginning). He should never have gone on the offensive. See that when he was taken out everyone got taken out so easily.

Omni Man didn't win on pure power. He knew they were a threat and preyed on their weaknesses.
-He looked away so Red Rush would think he was attacking from a blind spot. That way he could grab when the Speedster was confident and unprepared.
-He threw Darkwing's body to Green Ghost. She materialized to catch it, and then he attacked when she was solid. He also went for the face because she puts her power gem in her mouth. You can hear it shatter.
-The moment Martian Man wrapped him the second time he went for the weak spot and ignored protecting himself. He makes multiple grabs for the weak spot before he gets the kill.
-He disarms War Woman to reduce how much of a threat she is to him. He also grabs it to kill Aquarius with unexpected range
-He leads the fight with an attack on the leader. Killing Immortal would break the Guardian's ability to coordinate
The Guardians were powerful and, given how the fight went in this version, could have won if they fought together better. Nolan out-thought them and picked them off with both raw power AND clever tricks. And at the end of the day, it was his brain that made the critical difference here
Not to mention, they didn’t properly coordinate their attacks. If they’d attacked him in tandem-like at 2:36-from the beginning, they probably could’ve beaten him.

The sad thing is that if the Guardians has fought without holding back from the start they would have most likely won. Even ambushed they still did more damage then him then virtually anyone else . But they were heroes and their compassion made them hold back which was exactly what Okni man planned . Truly brutal

Yes! Same! I’ve watched Tokyo Ghoul, AOT, played and watched Mortal Kombat and all those gore type of shows/games and never batted an eye to the bloody gore that was way worse than this, but just...this somehow just got to me..it was just-just so surprising

I really like the scene where the guardians gather. Especially Red Rush saying a conversation feels like hours. Nolan standing still reminds me of a comic where Slade is attacked by a few heroes and he stands still and somehow stabs the flash.
If this was an anime, we would of had shots of Red Rush monologuing how angry he is about Nolan's betrayal and then scream a bunch before swapping off of support.

In the comic you're referring to. Slade planted bombs in the building they were fighting in, but purposely left a path for Kid Flash to take. Slade literally pointed his blade in the direction he knew Kid Flash was coming from and had Kid Flash impale himself on Slade's own katana.

Speedsters, by the very nature of their powers, have to be able to perceive things at the speed they can move at. So Kid flash should have easily, easily, easily noticed the sword sticking out, and literally just turned around and ran back out of the path of the explosions the same way he came in.

@@sher618 no bro your not understanding. take his conversation with his girlfriend for a second. he told her that to her, their conversations last seconds but to him they drag out over hours. the reason they showed us his view of time quicker in this scene is because his perception of time is literally too fast to be animated. if they showed his TRUE perception of time it would have taken up all the time of this episode to show what he was experiencing. so no it wasnt a few minutes it was HOURS. why do you think his hands broke? because to him he had been punching trying to get free for hours at a time

I love how the show _itself_ acts like this isn't supposed to be happening: the music stops--- it's just the sound of blows, everyone else is stunned and off-balance, the teamwork we saw earlier now gone as he methodically dispatches them one by one with no hatred or quips on his part. Fucking diabolical! I was absolutely gut-punched at the end of this episode, it was amazing to experience this show blind.
I seen this in a short and I'm mad that I'm not blind but I have not seen anything else and was hoping to get to watch this.

I love this show! This whole fight scene was done to set the tone of the show and foreshadows what Omniman has in store for us.
It’s crazy to look back and see how much trust Immortal had in Omni-Man
After seeing what Omni Man is capable of in episode 2, War Woman and The Immortal must have been incredibly strong to inflict even the modest amount of damage they managed to do.
Red Rush actually inflicted damage on him too, look at omnimans mouth just before red dies, there plenty of blood in it, omnimans blood. That is especially remarkable because Red Rush was only punching him in the chest so the damage he was doing was actually serious.

I was pleased that the Guardians were treated with more respect here than in the original comics. They clearly were their world's premier hero team, and acquitted themselves well against the strongest super on Earth.
It’s honestly a good change from the comics that maybe if two or three slight changes were made they could have actually won.
Up until this moment I was under the impression that I was watching a coming of age superhero cartoon. That rug was pulled hard from underneath me as I realized I was in the midst of something far more unrelenting and legendary. And just like that I was hooked

I just realized that Red Rushes death was probably like an enternity of pain. Since everything is so slow to him.
I generally have no problem with animated gore/violence, but watching this scene never fails to make me clench cheeks. The suspense/context/composition of the scene causes be a touch of vicarious pain for these funny little 2D people. The guys who worked on this show were very, very good at breathing animated life (and death) into Kirman's brutal drawings.
Not saying they could've won, but their best tactic in that situation would've been the immortal, war woman attacking, Martian man and aquarus support in distractions while red rush and green ghost played defense keeping everyone safe from his attacks. Darkwing should've reteated to the shadows just called out orders.
That's only possible if they didn't put their whole trust to him. Now I understand why batman would not take any chances on superman, even if he's a friend, same for the rest of justice league members.

Darkwing could also have put himself in the role of distraction - his batarang knockoffs clearly threw Omni Man off balance, even if they didn't do a lot of damage.
If you look at his face after he finished killing them. His expression shows the conflicting emotions he has. While he is fulfilling the duty to his empire, they were legit his friends and a part of him, somewhere within his mind, is horrified at what he just had to do.

It was to show that killing them was very close to the limit of what he was willing to do even for his empire, and that despite trying to sound aloof and remorseless, there was a part of him that really didn't want to, because he enjoys his life on earth.

Red Rush and (sorry I forget his name- the one who restrained Omni Man) were phenomenal!! Using their minds and bodies to support the others down to their deaths. All of the guardians were truly heroes

It's an interesting thought, but idk if I agree. I just finished the series and I'm convinced that Omni Man is practically indestructible. That massive planetary laser they shot at him gave him a tiny nosebleed. Or in the very next episode after this, where he singlehandedly murders an entire planet with ease. I'm genuinely impressed that War Woman and Immortal were able to cause as much damage to him as they did, but I don't think anyone stands a chance against Omni Man, aside from other Viltrumites. I'll be interested to see how Mark is able to defeat him in future seasons, if at all.

Red rush was able to punch so much while his skull was being crushed because time moves slower for him. It must have been a truly agonizing death to feel that kind of pain so drawn out.
The moment Red Rush swapped to offence, the Guardians were fucked.
Jesus, their deaths in the comic were nowhere near this brutal. and it only took up 2 pages!

Trying to run from someone as fast as Omni-Man would just get you hunted down the moment he was done killing the rest. The moment Red Rush died, any hope of getting the news out was lost. Immortal's the only one who would have even stood a chance, and it wasn't even close - Nolan took him out in two hits.
@@trevordavis6830 the funny thing is. If any of them had escaped into a populated area omniman wouldn't be able to kill them bc then his cover would've been blown. Fleeing was the best option. But red rush would've had the best chance.
I like how they show how drained he is at the end, he killed them because they were a threat to his plan and it shows just by how tired and relieved he is after its over, he had the element of surprise and they still did a solid number but he calculated and adapted💯🔥
Martian manHunter guy was pretty badass in his final moments, kept omniman restrained twice and didn’t miss a beat, until well, he did miss a beat

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The way the musical score just cuts out after Omniman crushes RR’s head… leaving the rest of the brutal fight scene to play out in complete silence… genius.
I love it when an epic scene stops using music and it’s just fists hitting flesh and you hear the visceral noises. I feel like so many action movies today add epic music and try to make you feel like the scene is intense but they won’t let you feel like it’s intense

I think Darkwing knew what would happen when he attacked Omniman, he just wanted to save War Woman because he knew she was one of the heavy hitters of the group and could actually do damage and he had no other choice. He's not stupid but he was shown to put his life in danger to save others at the same time, so he would obviously do the same for one of his teammates.
That makes a lot of sense - it's not like he could have done much else. As an aside, this really puts the lie to the idea that Batman can survive against Superman without kryptonite - and even with kryptonite, it's a dicey proposition.

The level of detail in this fight is honestly amazing and the best I've seen from start to finish. They are legit baffled when omniman first shows up then when Red Rush dies the music stops and it's just the sound of everyone getting slaughtered and contemplating what the hell just happened.

What makes this even sader is after they are all dead, you can see a haunted look in Omin mans eyes, Dispite what he say later, doing this effected him, these were his friends, Duty to his people made him do it, but his time on earth had changes him, and now he finds it hard to deal with the hard things he has to do.
They weren’t friends he was acting and immortal didn’t trust him
2 ways the GOTG would’ve won:
1. The Guardians were doing pretty well until Red Rush died. Had Red Rush stayed on the defensive, they could’ve beaten Omni-Man.
2. Had the martian kept his heart behind Omni-Man, he would’ve survived and War Woman and Immortal would’ve probably defeated him.

Them being smarter in this scenario isn’t a good factor because they truly don’t have knowledge on how powerful he is and Omni didn’t give any glimpse on what he was doing so they were left totally on the dark and acted on rational decision. Seeing Flash fighting it was obvious he had not even a percent of combat experience of Omni
3: Darkwing's tools were surprisingly effective. He should have stayed at range instead of trying to jump on him.

I like how they made a point of showing that war woman didn't have her mace when her and immortal were punching omniman. Their only hope was using that weapon but they left it behind. Their fists would never be enough.

He was probably holding back, letting them get hits in (like killing red rush so slowly, but having complete control of how much he got damaged in the process) so that when he was done, he didn’t seem suspicious that he was the only one without mortal wounds.
He killed red rush in like 0.1 second. They showed us a slow-mo so we could understand what was happening
His hands are definitely covered in their blood and brains.

@@proudlywild1491 I haven't watched Invincible yet, but, logically speaking, he was the only one capable of taking them out. If he was fine, then it would be clear that he gave no shits, regardless of whether or not he left a mess. Being injured would imply restraint, that he was compelled, buying him a bit more time to achieve what he needed to.

Green ghost could have been so useful in the fight. Nice that the writers found a way to kill her and have it make sense, but she still could have phased while holding darkwing's body.
In fact everybody could have just held green ghost while holding each other so they all phase …Omniman couldn’t have hit anyone if they all did that to they would have enough time and strategically plan what they wanted to do whit his ass

This was probably a way to retcon her death, but we see in season 2 that she was a relatively newbie hero replacing the old, much more experienced, male Green Ghost. It explains why she seemed so inexperienced in the White House fight and why she froze in this one.

I’m ngl the dark wing death hit me the hardest because he’s the character I can relate to the most; no powers. He’s just a regular human and it took two slams for Omni man to splatter his guts onto the floor. When he lands in green ghosts arms you can literally see every bone in his body broken
Same dude it bothered me too, just the way it happened so quickly too, and how detailed it was as well.
Because he was already falling down towards him. All Nolan did was add on more gravitational force to dark wings fall, I believe if nolan tried the same move on dark wing from ground level he would’ve possibly survived but barely.

The absence of music after Red Rush's death makes the scene more intense. Just the sound of their blows and blood splatter
Notice his facial expressions at the end as he hunches over on his knees. You can tell he is regretful almost immediately for what he did. That he instantly goes into a state of depression. That nap he took wasn't just because they put in a good fight. It was from the mental strain of killing his own friends. This cements the events of mark stopping him in another timeline, where he gets talked down after being knocked unconcious, he thanks him for it.
This is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my life.
The thing that makes this famous scene even more horrifying than it already is is that Omni-Man doesn't say anything throughout it. It makes it seem so much more brutal and him more menacing
