- About this march:
"Radetzky March" is a march composed by Johann Strauss Sr. and dedicated to Field Marshal Joseph Radetzky von Radetz.
About the composer:
Johann Baptist Strauss I (1804 - 1849) was an Austrian composer of the Romantic Period. He was famous for his light music, namely waltzes, polkas, and galops.
Some notes about the video:
This military march has been performed since its creation, it was originally created to commemorate a victory by Marshal Joseph Radetzky, but later it was used as a regular march of Austria or Austria Hungary. Not only before the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867, but also after that compromise. That's why you can see pictures or scenes related to the Austrian empire (1804) and also the Austro Hungarian empire.

During my primary school music classes in my old country Macedonia and also every January 1st, there was a live broadcast of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra New Years day concert on the Macedonian national television. Everybody waited for this March to be played, and usually that was at the end of the concert. Danke schonn Österreich für gütten muzik und kultur im der Welt!! Österreich uber alles!!

I always watched this in Austria with my grandmother as "first event of the year" and wondered about the long list of radio stations that were read by the hosts. As a German and now 42 years in Canada. the nearest I ever came to the Austrian Hungarian empire was at the Ukrainian city of Lemberg. My taxi driver to my hotel could not speak a word English or German. After we reached the cobble stone street of the city. I did say the word Habsburg und we both understand that this road was build under the Habsburg Empire on or before 1918

The Tyrol was never part of Italy, the only reason the Italians entered WWI was to take the land. Starting in early 20th Century, the demand began. Now, Italian is still a secondary language. Oh the messes, from Imperial days, that remain.
Since I was a young boy I listened this music during Chilean Independency celebrations. I love that march.

this is so familiar sounding, i have heard this in some movies that have nothing to do with austria hungary or military stuff.
My grandfathers were from Galicia, Ukraine. They and their fathers were proud to be KuK soldiers. When I listen to this march I wonder if they enjoyed it as much as I do.

You should consider putting the austrian empire flag and the one in the thumbnail is their Merchant flag.
Yes, that flag is more like a popular or naval flag, not the "official" one. And let's be honest, people are more used to that "popular" flag, so I don't think anything needs to be changed. But yes, for my next videos about AU-HU I will clarify that point about the flags.
