    Five sevens shoot so flat. Trigger is excellent. Grip texture is max aggro and so is the report of the shot. IT's rifle loud.

      Yes, One of my favorite parts about the 5.7 is how flat shooting it is. Plus having 20+1 or with extended mag 30+1 is great. I was easily hitting the 100 yard targets which impressed me. My Uncle kept 19 of 20 rounds on a 16" plate at 150 yards but he is a great shooter.

    I've had mine for a long time and have shot thousands of rounds through it. It never fails to impress everyone with the reliability, low recoil, the ability to hit steel at 100 yards and how lightweight it is loaded with 20 rounds! Just for fun you should shoot the green or black tips if you can find them! Shot mine through a piece of "bullet" proof glass that had stopped multiple other supposedly deadlier rounds zipped through like a hot knife through butter! Good job sir please keep doing all of the great things that you do! Thank you!

      had mine for years, too. My experience is similar to yours, except for the reliability: it needed tons of work (rounds fired, working the slide back and forth) to feed reliably. It is my CCG, despite one big drawback. The grip angle is shit. I have to cock my wrist. That and the safety makes it difficult to use other pistols (I have two more FNs and two Glocks). I really wish FN would correct the grip angle.

    The FN Five-Seven has been my EDC since 2009 and I ONLY open carry it. So some comments from someone who has trained for it after having previously loved the rear thumb safety of my Smith & Wesson's (that now reside in the safe except on a range day).
    The position of the safety is PERFECT as it is right where your finger needs to be until it moves to the trigger. There are those that say if it comes out it's time to pull the trigger but that is BS. There are times when it should be pulled and you're not going to immediately fire. That's just reality. That said, you're point about it being different is very valid and requires training.
    The rounds DO NOT "look like rifle bullets". THEY ARE RIFLE ROUNDS. They were born with the FN P90 military bullpup rifle and it's longer barreled non NFA PS90 brother. The Five-Seven is the sidearm to complement the P90. This is why the muzzle blast is so massive. A Rifle round is coming out of a 4.5" barrel and there is still powder burning.
    I've chrono'd factory rounds and found that they do indeed leave at the published speeds. 1750 FPS for 40gr projectiles. However, much higher speeds are attained by "boutique" manufacturers and home loads. Though not for everyone as it's a small margin between a fast load and a massive over pressure.
    You had a line of text appear that stated "Armor piercing ammo is for law enforcement and military only". Well let's clarify that. "Armor Piercing" ammo is defined by the BATFE by the materials of the construction of the projectile with ZERO consideration as to whether the projectile will ACTUALLY penetrate armor. Well there are a LOT of projectiles out there for this weapon that will indeed penetrate armor designed to protect against pistol ammo including pretty much anything in the soft armor category. Those rounds are relatively expensive (though not all that bad) but easily obtained or made and DO NOT run afoul of the law.
    Also, you neglected to mention that there are 30 round mags available and they are reliable. I love mine and they make the weapon just all that more versatile post collapse.
    There's just so much to like about this weapon.
    I do however maintain 9mm pistols because if there is ammo to be found there will almost assuredly be 9mm, 45ACP, and/or 12ga.
    Keep up the good work.

    • @jessee6885
      @jessee6885 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@justinbiggs7729 never at any point did I mention how well a 5.7 cartridge is suppressed. Just because you don't think it suppresses well, I shouldn't have fun with it? That was what I said, it's a lot of fun. The 5.7 projectile moves at about 2020 fps when fired from the five seven, that's far from being subsonic, on the other hand 5.56 moves at around 3200 fps yet alot of shooters run suppressors on 5.56. Thankfully FN makes subs in that cartridge (sb193 or white tips) and their muzzle velocity is about 990 fps so it suppresses very well. The gun being quieter isn't the only thing fun about shooting suppressed, adding a suppressor to any firearm makes it shoot and feel differently and the Five Seven is no exception to that. Whether using subs or not, out door shooting with a suppressed Five Seven is still quieter and still fun. Without subs you still get a pop but as long as you're outside it's tolerable.

    I've had one of these for years. During the ammo drought of 2009 the 5.7 was about the only stuff I could find on the shelves. Scored 1000 rounds mail order. I love the 30 round magazine extensions, but I haven't been able to love the gun as well. Too different from my other pistols. Maybe if it was my only pistol I could appreciate it more.

    Just because of the ammo type and how this gun generally lends itself more to rapidly firing armor penetrating shots, combined with costs, I've always felt like this gun was perfect for
    PMCs or other kinds of paramilitary organization where you've got good funding and limited numbers of people to spread it around on. Absolutely perfect.
    For civilian use as a home or personal defense weapon, it always just seemed less suitable to me. Between the cost, lack of potential enemies in body armor, and risk of collateral from over penetration (I've seen tests performed where this gun penetrated steel cover or bullet proof windows and made a mess of the target, consistently) that you might end up being held legally responsible for, it just seemed like that was never really its intended role.
    But everybody will and should carry what they're personally comfortable with, just voicing my own thoughts as to why I would only ever use it for duty or the range.

    • @iyziejane
      @iyziejane 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Makes double sense for military since the P90 carbine runs on the same round. But civilians can only easily get the PS-90 because of SBR laws, defeating that purpose too.

      @@iyziejane ive always wanted a 57 for the cool factor, but the p90 really seems like the only practical platform for the 5.7mm.
      Its longer barrel gives the round more energy in a gun less than 2ft long with 50 rounds.
      If your doing room clearing or executive protection, which is what it was made for, its probably the right gun and round for you, otherwise, its a hard sell, except of course, for being able to say you have a 57

In fact most places I'm seeing 9mm at 50 cents pretty regularly and even the high end of the cheaper 5.7x 28mm is 60-70 cents. I wouldn't say that's unobtainable or even a large factor. Especially with the new popularity of the Ruger five- seven and companies like cmmg offering 5.7x28 as an option the price is only going to go down, in fact I'm looking to convert my cmmg banshee 300 to it pretty soon and if you do the research and plan out your ammo purchases it's not really the burden everyone makes it out to be. Kind of an overhyped fatal flaw that isn't really all that fatal 😱✌

    I have a Ruger-57. The Ammo i got to use speciffically for self defence is a fragmenting round from R&R Weapon Systems.
    I actually picked up a box of the green tip and carry one extra magazine of it next to the spare mag of the fregmenting rounds, just on the off-chance i find myself having to defend against someone wearing soft body armor that would stop the more common 9mm-45 calibers.
    Another pluss of the 5.7 is that the ammo is incredibly light. So having 2 spare magazines on my hip feel like nothing.

    Biggest complaint I hear is about the stopping power with the 5.7 pistols but good shot placement will be way easier to achieve due to low recoil. These rounds achieve hydrostatic shock pretty well if you ask me.

    My biggest grip about the 5.7mm is compared to 9mm you are giving up almost 50% of your muzzle energy and a few inches on the ballistics gel, it's hard to justify when my 19x is only giving up 1 bullet (+2 base plates) to have significantly more stopping power.

      Wait what are you talking about exactly? Are you saying the Five seven has less Muzzle Velocity than the 9MM Glock? If that's the case, then you should really revisit your numbers. The 5.7x28 is made to be an armor penetrating round. That's why its illegal for civilian use in a lot of countries. Because even the regular rounds(non armor piercing) bypass a lot of soft armor which 9mm, 40. or 45. Fail at. Yes, it hits less than the 9mm. But its low recoil higher capacity and insane muzzle velocity make up for that.

      @@bachmed00 muzzle energy is not muzzle velocity they are not the same thing, yes 5.7mm has higher muzzle velocity and better soft armor penetration but it has about the muzzle energy of a .22LR mag round, which is pretty low and the reason so few military and LEAs got them, it doesn't matter if it can penetrate armor if it is significantly less likely to incapacitate the target. Also higher capacity then 9mm true but by like maybe 2 shots so capacity a lot less of an argument then say .45acp vs 9mm.

    Great video, one of the best ones I’ve seen on this firearm. I love everything you had to say and I think you’re accurate with everything you had to say. What about the accuracy how did you do? I have always been accurate with mine but some people say they have a little bit of trouble

    They are cool. I fired it at a demo. The price of the pistol and the ammo is a deal killer. Ruger has one for half the price but that ammo is still expensive.
