  • Full review of the long awaited 2023 Ford Raptor R! 700hp V8 under the hood and a sound that goes with it! Was it worth the wait and $110K price tag?
    In this review we give our honest opinion on the new Raptor R and compare it to the "regular" Ford Raptor as well as it's main competitor in the Ram Trx.
    It's been a long time coming and it's a great truck but I'm wondering if Ford could've done a bit more with this truck.

    It's a nice truck and it sounds great, thanks to it now having a proper V-8 engine in it. HOWEVER... I don't think it's $110k nice. The prices for these vehicles nowadays is absofreakinlutely RICOCKULOUS!!! I can see paying maybe $65k to $75k for this truck, but any price beyond that is absurd.

      Crazy think is that we’re paying 65 to 75k for a basic xlt

      And yet you can find plenty of luxury SUVs at or exceeding the $100k mark & almost all of em have less power, less Tq, less capability, less cargo room, no bed, can’t tow, can’t haul, are slower, can’t jump, harsher or inferior suspension setups etc I’m talking Audi Q8, X5/X7, Escalade/Yukon, wagoneer, cayenne, etc etc, if you truly do an honest impartial comparison feature for feature capability for capability + the ease of maintenance/parts availability & reliability? It’s not an crazy asking price.

      Reason why its 30k expensive than normal raptor is only because of performance. 5.2 l supercharger is totally different engine than 5.0 just like shelby 350 vs regular gt 5.0 difference

    I wanted a Raptor R BADLY and asked to order one a year or so ago, my dealership had an allocation of ONE and it was spoken for. I really didn’t try beyond that but in the back of my mind thought I’ll get one to replace my 2020 Raptor at some point.
    I’ve completely changed my mind.
    I’ve decided that I’m done with this game- the hype-driven sticker plus whatever they can get nonsense and what drove me to this decision was a visit to a very high volume performance Ford dealership. They probably have 100 trucks on the lot, had fifteen of the Raptor R’s allocated and even had one left.
    We probably spent two hours looking at trucks- Roush, Shelby, Black Widow, Hennessey, Rocky Ridge, Tuscany and whatever else was there. Most of these trucks were over $100,000 on the sticker…I was shocked and honestly had a blast looking. The sales manager told me he’d sell me the last Raptor R for $150,000. I told him I’d really have to think on that.
    They had one Roush left that had a supercharger that brought the HP of the excellently upgraded XLT over 700hp, it was gorgeous inside and out. The salesman told me that he’d make me a good deal on that one, it had been driven about 5000 miles, probably by the sales manager or GM.
    After leaving I contacted the salesman and asked what it would take to buy the Roush, he replied $100,000. I didn’t even bother to reply…his “good deal” on the truck was over what their website showed as the price of the truck including upgrades. He didn’t know that I had looked, they’ve had the truck for a YEAR and a LOT of their trucks had been sitting unsold for months and months. This reminds me of the movie Vacation, when they were stranded and after asking the mechanic how much repairs to the family truckster would cost the reply was, “How much you got?”
    Dealerships have figured out to spend maybe $15,000 on aftermarket upgrades and they can charge $30k over sticker. Here’s the thing…historically these aftermarket upgrades just don’t carry over in used values. Look at any 5+yr Roush Mustang, they just don’t hold value. Sure, they’re fun and very, very nice inside but I am uncertain whether the aftermarket stuff will hold much resale value.
    The bottom line is that I’m just not playing anymore. There was a time, not too many years ago that we bought at invoice, maybe $1000 +/- invoice and it worked out nicely for everyone. This attitude of grabbing every dollar humanly possible, the strategy of less units, more profit/unit and particularly $30-$40k OVER sticker is a game for others, not me. I’m a business owner too and our model has certainly changed to mirror that of the car industry- we have to charge more than ever and we’re selling less products to fewer people with higher margins and from my view I kind of like it this way but we’ve learned that this model is unsustainable in the long run. My guess is that 6 months from now will be a different market…but take that opinion for what you paid to read it.
    As a consumer,I can easily afford any of them but I’m just done with all of it. My 2020 Raptor is very nice, as new and I love the truck so I just can’t see spending more than I paid for my old house for a pickup. Seriously…this is insane.
    Maybe rather than play this game it would be worth looking into to buying a XLT, have Katskin leather installed, go to the tire shop and upgrade the suspension, tires and wheels and finally buy a supercharger from Roush or someone else and I’d end up with a very aggressive, very nice and more affordable truck that I’m thrilled with.
    I guess demand is still high but my general feeling is that these- all of these $100k pickups are going to have to come back to something resembling reasonable. I could be wrong, clearly there are two distinct classes of people out there- those who will pay whatever they need to pay and those who simply can’t or won’t.
    I’m a TOTAL Ford fan and this is a very nice pickup but they lost me about $40k ago. It’s just gotten ridiculous.

      @jmin8400 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not in the least. Either you cannot justify it or you can. I know how much each variant of P702 costs to build and while there is good margin on the higher trim levels, what you suggest is senseless and not viable as a business with pensions and healthcare costs to pay.
      It annoys me how some of you don't think of those realities and just spout off nonsense.

    • @off-roadingcars
      @off-roadingcars ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jmin8400 I get your point about build costs, but paying too much for pensions is not the best example. GM and Ford famously promised way too much for its pensions than “viable as a business”.

    • @jmin8400
      @jmin8400 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@off-roadingcars Yeah, but still has to be paid. I own one, I help develop this and other trucks on the same T3 architecture and the next one.
      The goal is for us to increase profit margin, but there's a limit to that with specialized products like this.
      The reason it's also so expensive? Ranger Raptor, as a new price floor below it. We have to space them out and acclimate the consumer base to the new Raptor price structure.
      Selling a $60k Ranger Raptor and $60k F150 Raptor together, would obviously not go very well. Removing the V6 option for the 2024 Raptor? That was considered, but hard to execute as desired due to not enough production volume of the Predator to meet overall Raptor demand for MY 2023.
      I won't comment on the future, as we are in the redesign process already and will for now launch the P702 MCA this fall to pass the time.
      In terms of Bronco, I find the Wildtrak redundant and never understood our decision to offer it, other than targeting different bases. Pointless, when it only serves as an unwelcome price floor for the Bronco Raptor.
      If not for the Wildtrak, maybe a slightly cheaper Bronco Raptor would exist for MY 2023. Everglades is a different matter though.

    • @off-roadingcars
      @off-roadingcars ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jmin8400 Well you guys did a great job on all the Raptors, to include the Bronco Raptor…that thing literally climbs up and down walls. I really hope Ford continues the V8 Raptor for as long as it can, presumably before an electric version comes out. The ride quality on normal streets for both v6 and v8 F150 Raptors is incredible and destroys the TRX. Ford pretty much owns this market.

    I ordered traded my 2020 Raptor for a 2021 special order 350. They messed up my order, still bought the truck and they PROMISED to take care of me on my Raptor R order. Well, needless to say that didn’t happen. Told me I would have to bid for it until they decided it would be $25k over sticker. When I told them they needed to own up to their word and I wasn’t paying $25k over, they completely ghosted me and never sold me a truck. I went to a dealer in WY and bought a 2022 Raptor with 37s.

    I'm a TRUE 100% Ford supporter who stays in a small town Albertinia, Western Cape, South Africa. All I can say about this is WOW!!!! For me this bakkie/truck is way-out of my reach with the ZAR/US$ rate = 18ZAR to 1US$. So roughly this bakkie will cost over ZAR1 000 000.00!!! I've seen the comparison test with the Dodge RAM TRX and I've enjoyed it. Can somebody please inform me what 10,4 m/g is in km/l as this is our fuel consumption measurment?

  • @le1690

    The RAM has more presence. Like you said, they didn't do enough to differentiate it for the price. That's not a problem exclusive to Ford though.

    • @jmin8400
      @jmin8400 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't delude yourself. I own all three generations and also engineer these vehicles here in Michigan. The interior quality of a midlevel P415 is vastly different from anything we've manufactured the last 8 years under the F-150 nameplate.
      My two older 6.2 Boss SVTs are agricultural by comparison to my Ecoboost and new Predator Raptors.
      The P552 (2015-20MY) interior isn't a Bentley, but it's a Bentley against the P415's base BMW grade interior.
      P702 Raptor R interior against your truck is no comparison, because I own both and only like my old 6.2s for nostalgia or rugged fun.

    I want it, but am torn about the lower mpg. I wonder, at altitude going up mountainy highway hills, where the turbo's would absolutely kick in on the regular v6 turbo, I wonder if this v8 would do just as well? Or maybe not given the supercharge, not sure how exactly that works.

    I have a 2011 Ford Raptor with a V8, and it’s supercharged. I have less than 50k miles on it, and paid $45k. Looks like it’s in showroom condition inside and out. My point is that for way less than half the price of a new Raptor R, you can still find stellar examples of Gen 1’s with V8’s.

  • @ilocanodetoy2225
    @ilocanodetoy2225 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The hard part to make decision is the look is just the same, if you don’t have the regular Raptor it’s worth it but not if you already own one and you also have have the TRX so now you have to have both V8 trucks unless you will trade the Ecoboost. When people see it they just gonna say oh it’s a Raptor or it’s TRX.

Can’t say for sure being that I can’t afford to own one from the price spike from 65-80+ grand in the past few years… also the fact paying 15 grand more for the same truck that came out pre Covid just makes me sick.

    Rational thoughts. Except the Raptor R delivery, flip it.... part of the game, regular folks as well as TH-camrs do it frequently. We know you are getting it at sticker, buy it, flip it and make the 20-30k for yourself. Keep your TRX or get a new level 3 package. Use the money made to modify the TRX. As the Hellcat motor and now all wheel drive transmission of the TRX have been around for a good while, they are known to be fairly reliable. Tuners, performance shops ect have also had a lot of time to work with the Hellcat motor and TRX trucks to be able to safely modify these trucks making a lot of power reliably. Flip the Raptor, make that 20-30k , added to the additional 25-30k you would, were planning to trade (or sell) the TRX in for the Raptor R. Take those funds, 45-60k, again stick with your TRX or get a brand new level 3 package, modify the TRX (900 - 1,000 HP) and still bank 20-30k or more. How awesome would it be to have a 1,000 hp truck. Not to mention having it, the build, the content, races ect..... on the channel. Unfortunately I think the Raptor R is to new to do any serious power modifications.
    Just $.02 from a random subscriber, fan of the channel.

    Raptor R owner. It's been in the shop 3 times since purchase and Is in the shop now. Many issues with Ford Sync, Android Auto, Audio Amplifier.
    I can't hear people when I make calls, I get random garbled noises when I'm streaming audio, my ac stopped working after a call dropped, my map gets occasionally scrambled, I get random loud static sounds through the stereo which then resets my headunit, when it rains my camera fail, when navigating the "calm screen" appears which is very distracting - especially at night. There are no wheel liner options available yet. The exhaust sound preference schedule isn't intuitive. And the seats aren't as comfortable as a base f150.
