    i feel so sorry for Dreadnaught, it such a good looking bot and it's massive size makes it feel terrifying, but the bot just dies every 9 seconds.

    Robot Wars was one of my favourite programmes and I remember watching it on Friday evenings with my younger brother, Richard.

    Oh Dreadnaught just when we thought you were completely fine but you weren't working again in the heat semis! Sir Killalot gave Rameses II a good BBQ, Mortis had to win that final... Well deserved from the start and I can see why they were #2 seeds. Fantastically engineered and stylistic.

    I love the design of Drednaut. Reminds me of something from Lost In Space! Such a great looking robot. Shame it didnt do very well in the competition.

    I'm kind of surprised to see that Ramses had more pushing power than Mortis.

    Once again, thanks for uploading all of these!
    Mortis may be worth £10k and it was easily the better robot out there. However its not like 10 x as effective as the others as price would suggest. Diminishing returns I guess. That weapon was nice though....

    How was Mortis the 2nd seed? That makes no sense.
    Regardless though, I haven't seen the first 3 series of Robot Wars since they first aired, much thanks to the uploader. It's weird how much of all of this i remember VERY vividly and how much I have completely forgotten.... and also how very crude and amateur these first 2 series were.
    Jousting with Matilda? I'd have loved to have seen that in later series, but after about series 4 many of the competitor robots hugely surpassed the effectiveness of the original House Robots, the only advantage they had most of the time in later series was more weight and a rule that they can't be attacked directly (a rule a few teams chose to break from time to time), well, until Matilda got that "50 kg Flywheel" heh heh.
    Look at me, I haven't seen Robot wars in 10 years and I'm getting drawn into talking about it again...
    ROBOT WARS ROCKS!!! :D

      I think mortis was seeded 2nd because of it popularity and possibly because they thought it would do well.

    • @TheGreenElbow
      @TheGreenElbow 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That not how seeds works. If someone wins they were the No.1 seed the next year. If a competitor comes 4th, they are the 4th seed etc.
      Saying Mortis was the 2nd seed was saying they came 2nd in the 1st wars when they were clearly knocked out in the heats (technically with Bodyhammer being the only other surviving robot in the series 1 grand final it should have been the 2nd seed) The same applies to Killertron, they claim multiple times that it was a 1st wars grand finalist when it wasn't. They even show the fight with Road Block in its heat final claiming that was it being defeated in the grand final.
      There are a number of these discrepancies looking back and it seems like producers meddling with the show. Yes Mortis was popular as being the most advanced and potentially damaging robot for a number of wars (which is ironic as they NEVER advanced very far, EVER) and maybe they thought as they did in the first wars that it would go far or even win, but it didn't.
      It just feels like they were fabricating results from the previous war to please new viewers that didn't actually watch the first wars; "let's say these 2 tank looking robots with huge axe weapons were finalists instead of that weaponless cone on wheels and that see through box"
      But I was a viewer of the first wars... and it still slightly annoys when watching it back.

      Outside of 1st place, seeding works by how the producers and bracket creators THINK they could do assuming they don't break down, along with who the general favorites to win are, so then they arrange the heats to ensure that they don't meet outside of a final match in the bracket (however it was quite rare for two seeded bots to actually fight each other in the heat finals). This is why some favorites will get easy brackets instead of having to gruel through hard seeds with successful veterans.
      Basically, seeding is not a determination tool of how successful the robot is, but it's a system used to avoid stuffing too many series favorites/successful veterans in the same heat, which is why Killertron and Mortis are in separate heats and series halves from Roadblock and Cassius, otherwise series semis would turn into a veteran half and a newcomer half instead of a mixed.

      FunnyThingy
      It was the same a few other times. For example, in series 4 Stinger was seeded 30th, despite going out in the first round of series 3. I also remember at one point being puzzled by Razer being seeded 3rd in the 4th series, but that probably mostly came from the fact that they won the world championships.
      Also, seeding Ming Die-Nasty in the seventh series, when there were so many other experienced robots deserving of the seeding

      according to the Pilot himself, the Producers where heavily biased towards Mortis, to the point that his runs in the first 3 series where actually rigged in his favor. He actually quit Robot Wars after series 3 due to an emergency in the pits and refused to good back citing the unsafe conditions.

    Dreadnaut broke down 4 times in 2 series. They could just fix the robot, at least just to put it out of its misery

    Yeah, having such a small arena and a ppz instead of Cpz, plus the fact the house robots always seemed to go for knockout blows in this series was annoying, it ruined some great fights, fortunately, this is isn't the case in later series.

    After the third episode of this series I've decided I really hate the format of using the house robots in the arena battles. Because of them you don't need to bother using your weapon at all. All that matters is pushing. Just push the bot out of the playing space to win. It's like robot Sumo instead of robot Boxing.

    • @Goodvibrations-Impickingup
      @Goodvibrations-Impickingup 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      dunbar9finger yes these early wars had some boring qualifiers and finals. Even the most modern wars have too many obstacles that do not let the competing robot have enough room to really battle.

    Ow, Jesus. I think that's the only time I've ever seen Killalot use his jaws of life claw for its intended purpose- cutting THROUGH meta like paper. He usually just uses it to pick things up.
    There's no way to miss the production favouritism towards Mortis, though- Oblivion wasn't even ambiguously immobilised and the battle clearly went to time, but they just skipped the judges' decision and declared Mortis the winner. Undoubtably they WERE the winner, but even in the most obviously one-sided matches in Robot Wars history they've NEVER skipped the judges. The only decent possibility is that the judges DID render a quick decision and they just edited it out for time- but I don't think that's actually what happened. Craig didn't even interview the gallant loser afterwards.

    • @HarryRickard
      @HarryRickard 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be fair, in Series 2, Craig didn't interview the losers of the heat final for some reason. In the final between Chaos and Mace, the Chaos team don't even go up to join Craig and the Mace team!
