    Just wanted to thank you. This was exactly what I needed to get the bootloader done. Once one gets the bootloader in the rest is fairly simple. Now comes the work of fine tuning. I have been very happy with my CR-10 and have a CR-10S on order. I think I will wait for the warranty to run out before upgrading the S model ;-)

    Thanks for the video. I was doing the same mod on the CR-10. You really wrap up all the info in one video. Last time it tooks me 2 days to put Marlin 1.1.6 on my CR-10. Now it tooks 40 mins with the video

    Nice video, Stefan.
    One warning to add, though: be sure to unplug any SD cards from your printer before flashing a bootloader or firmware via the ICSP/ISP header. A lot of printer boards share the wires between the SD/mini-SD/micro-SD port and the ICSP/ISP header. There's a non-zero chance of trashing any SD card that's plugged in during ICSP/ISP programming.

    Hallo Stefan, Danke für das Video! I have a slight correction though: @01:55 you mention that Boot loader is not required for a CR10S (Which I have)- entailed is a Creality V2.0 board. I took me 2 Days and a lot of forum surfing to chase the misleading error messages (things like avrdude: verification error, first mismatch at byte 0x0000
    0x14 != 0x0c)- turns out that apparently my board did not have a functioning bootloader installed.
    BTW I installed Marlin 2.0.1 with no problems (so far), now I need to do the direct dual drive extruder and the linear rails installed.
    Keep up the good work!

    Hello Stephan, nice video! Explained alot.
    Lin. Advance might be a nice video as well.
    I have a Conrad Renkforce printer with an old sidebranch of repetier firmware. I ended up patching the firmware to the newest Advance code by myself. Well: Topic understood, Fluid dynamics understood, Coding understood + it works. But the real deal is to find the correct advance parameters for all the filament I have. There should be some formula using the e-modul of each filament to get the best values. Well, yeah.. what a hobby. Rightnow I ended up putting the value to some quite random number inbetween some limits I read in the internet :D . And I really do hear it working but I dont really see much of an effect to edges, a tiny one - maybe. Higher speeds should reveal more?
    One thing migth be better than edges: When I printed the first prints with lin advance It seemed to clog my nozzle quite fast (using stiff filament, PLA). This clogging ended when all the dirt inside my nozzle got shaken away by lin advance. For me this effect was the most impressive one. But I am still having trouble to believe that this really was the reason for my clogged nozzle. If it was, that would be just an awsome sidefeature of lin advance.

    Hi thanks so much, a very timely video. I was looking into installing a boot loader and updating my firmware.. so I used your links and version of Marlin.
    For my CR-10 some changes needed to be made. Like the Y Direction and the extruder steps/mm (Y DIR = true, extruder steps/mm = 99) these may be different for others but that's what I found worked for me. however somehow in my copy of your marlin the extruder was set to 803.. which is just under 10x the amount of feed you need. So you might want to check it.
    thanks again.

    • @CNCKitchen
      @CNCKitchen  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      As I pointed out, my version of Marlin is already adjusted for the Titan Aero Extruder and due to its gear reduction needs a ridiculously high steps/mm for the extruder.

    • @Remowylliams
      @Remowylliams 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That explains the value. It would take you longer than it took to do the video to dial up the 803 value. Did you change other default settings too? My CR-10 is printing much better at higher speed now. I will experiment with Marlin 1.1.8 now and see how things go. Thanks again for the video and the resources.

    Stephen, it's not related to your video, that by the way is awesome and I plan to perform it soon, but after replace my J-Head, including thermistor I got an err: MAX TEMP.. I cannot get rid of it.. tried to disconnect cables, switch thermistors plugs into the mainboard.. all these didn't work.. is there anyway to reset the mainboard? I suspect that somehow the trigger "MAX TEMP" was shot while I was replacing the JHEAD and it get stuck into the eprom.. please tell me your thoughts. Any advice is appreciated.

      Upgraded a CR-10S to .17 and need to move to .18 as there's a bug with the filament sensor in .17. Overall an excellent upgrade and easy to do with a bootloader installed already on the 10S. I believe the base 10 won't take the full Marlin though as it's got limited storage, did you not find that to be true?

      I upgraded as soon as I got my printer because not being able to change the default preheat settings made me mad. Since then I have done many mods including the Titan Aero which it is working on it's first print right now (a calibration cube). I am still on .15. I really need to check out the change logs on the new builds. Since I'm on a CR-10 and not a 10s the storage is a big limitation. I just turn off all of the features I don't care about/need to get around it and so far it has been OK, but there are lots of things I would like to have enabled just to use occasionally that I can't have because there just ins't room. I love your videos and as crazy as it may sound, that Prusa style nob for the CR-10 is one of my all time favorite prints, that thing is a game changer!

    can you update this for marlin 2.0 if you already haven't? i'm wondering if the marlin files i was given when i bought the printer my printer can be used, on 1.1.8 now and wanting to use configuration files so i don't lose any settings, though if i made your mount i'd end up using the files here and probably get way better results since you know better than me and the guy that sold me my cr-10s about 3d printing.

    Years later... (lol) A 'How-to' using a USBTinyisp and/or
    USBasp would be great.
    Also, a 'How-to' replace the stock Melzi (ATmega 1284/1284P) control board with a better and very inexpensive (almost plug-n-play?) board, perhaps a MKS Robin E3 integrated 4 TMC2209, et al. would be awesome. 😉

    Hi :D Is it possible that I have deleted the BOOTLOADER on my CR10S5 (which I think comes stock on it) by installing the BLTouch firmware for the Ender 3 using the progisp.exe program and the ATmega 1248chip option instead of the 2560chip over the provided USB to 6Pin cable that goes on the main board?
    Could this be the reason why my CR10S5 will no longer communicate with the PC?

    Stephan is working with a CR-10, but if you have a CR-10S I highly recommend referring to this article to get some more out of the upgraded motherboard: printedsolid.com/blogs/news/installing-marlin-1-1-6-on-your-cr-10s-with-mesh-bed-leveling
    Specifically, the manual mesh bed leveling has taken my first layer adhesion to a whole other level. You should also take the opportunity to redefine your PID tuning values to account for your new hardware when you install a volcano.

    Hi. I really need help with my 3D printer .
    I burned my mcu, so obviously I bought another one, the same as the old one. Soldered but now I have a blue screen, yeah, noob me.
    The motherboard is v4.2.2 ender 3 pro, MCU - GD32F303RET6.
    Can you please guide me on how to burn a bootloader on this thing? I think I've tried everything I could.

    Hey there, as i opened my controll box i saw that my board was green instead of black and it has no Jumper for VREG/USB. Can i skip the steap with swapping the jumper and the rest is the same?

    • @boerbieh

      same here, can we skip this step?

    • @Karafu147
      @Karafu147 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've done some research and found out that the green board without the jumper is a newer version, the v1.1.2 and that version already has an bootloader, so you should be able to install the firmware directly over usb.I will test it now.Nevermind if that is outdated, but i just wanted to reply :Dwww.thingiverse.com/groups/creality-cr-10/forums/general/topic:25767

      Just see if you board blinks when you connect it via USB. If it does it should also work.

    LOL, an auto transliteration must've been approved (or semi auto?) - it has quite a few different and hilarious errors for the word "CR-10". "Seriatim", "cereal 10", "seer 10", "C return"...
