Pro tip: In the newest version of marlin (2.0.6.1 for me) the config directory just has a readme with a link to the actual config files...
I had to dig on the view/download link to the right of the zip file and found the examples we need. I then downloaded them.

noticed that the feedrate shpwn in your video in line number 728 is ( 2500,2500,100,25) however
in the marlin downloaded it is showing - ( 300,300,5,25)
hence would like to clarify ......do i need to change as per your shown values ??

Hi THL. As a first thank you for your good work, I have already received a lot from your videos. I'm still running Creality's custom firmware for the CR10S with BlTouch (CR-10S1.1.6BLTouchV320190417) and this is my first experience with Marlin. My question to you is: I have a CR10S with Bondtech extruder and a BlTouch v3. Now I follow the above video and that all goes well. Adjusting the E-step for the bondtech extruder is going well. But with the BlTouch v3 I get stuck. I have seen another video of you installing the BlTouch and customizing it in Marlin, but it looks different than in this Marlin 2.0. Is there a possibility that you make a short movie to set up the BlTouch in marlin 2.0.5. You would do me and many others a great favor. With kind regards A. Spataro
Thanks for a great tutorial. After finally getting marlin to upload to my 3d printer, I tested everything out through the control panel and everything seems to work great (temp control, axis movement, etc.) until I load my slicer software. I am currently using Cura, which is what I have always used, and I can see that my printer is connected to Cura, but when I try to control my printer through Cura nothing happens. I also noticed that Cura no longer sees my hotbed. I was told it could be a firmware issue. Would you know anything about why this problem is occurring? Thank you in advance.
No use to change jerk setting when its not active (un - commented) I did un-comment that but still being just a little unsure if it was right thing in doing so, I have a printer that is a working progress and it has its fair shear of issues, and i am learning as i go along so every setting is a small mystery. what it does as there are quite a few to go true when setting up from scratch there ar no build for Zonestar With skr pro v 1.1 with dual extrude option anywhere i have found .
The printer is finally printing but there is still som tweaking and fine adjustments left. So this type of videos are priceless and useful so thank`s for making this.

Next to the "Verify" Button there is a Button that should say "Upload". If you've got your printer hooked up via USB and you selected the right Board and Port in the "Tools" tab, just click that button and the code gets uploaded to the printer.
I hope that's what you were looking for.

Thank you, Richard. After almost 50 years of developing software, I kept looking at the download page and going to the config files. Sometimes, I just tell you ... (By the way, around 11:08, that's called "comment out", since 2 slashes [or a /* in front and */ at the end] is a comment.)
You don't say (neither does Marlin) whether BL Touch was integrated into that software, so I guess I'll have to read all the documentation at the site and, if it's not there, go through the entire source code, to see. Unless you know. (I have a hex file for Marlin with BL Touch, but being able to configure it my way is better.)
(Edit after 14:12 - BL Touch is in there - I jumped the gun ... again.)
(Storage space includes anything you may add to the firmware later, dynamic memory is buffers, etc.)

I solved it by opening up Sketch -> Include Library -> Manage Library and there I just searched for U8glib and installed it.

Did you ever made a cr10s Marlin config for a bed leveling sensor? I am installing a probe and having much trouble with homing and also bed leveling. The machine goes almost out of the bed when homing. It would be great help if you could guide me. I have follow many of your videos and have been great help.
Hello, congratulations for the video. I wanted to ask you to activate the power_loss, to make sure that if for an error or current lack (for the latter you just put a ups), it freezes, can resume the printing perfectly from the place where it stopped. Useful if after hours and hours of printing, an error of any kind comes out you can not throw the print done until then. thank you in advance. i'm Italian.

So after installing my board then putting the new firmware my board gives me a long extended beep. Nothing on the screen and a faint sound of a fan in the background. Is this bad?

Excellent tutorial Rich, thank you. All went exactly as described by you while I was compiling Marlin 2.0 bugfix software until at the end of the verify phase it fails, telling me that there is a file extension which is too long. I have looked all over Google for an answer but the ones I got didn't actually seem to offer a concrete solution Any ideas? Thanks again anyway

@@dfgaJK Hi, no I did not despite extensive online research it appears that quite a few other people ran into this issue. One or two complex solutions were offered but I now run my system on the TH3D offering which I find excellent.
Hi. I made all the changes on my CR-10S as per the video, it compiled and uploaded but the lcd screen says "Err: EPROM Version" I'm using Arduino IDE 1.8.12. Any idea what that is about?
unknowingly, I bought an anet v1.7 board to replace the (Arduino) one in my cr-10s. i tried everything, even the TH3DUF_R2 to no success. i flashed the board with their bootloader using a USB asp but other than that, I can't get it to work. any ideas? is it possible to use an can't v1.7 board with a CR-10s or should I buy another board?

Have you had any luck so far with this board and Marlin? I've got the same board, but whatever Marlin 2.x version I use...always a blanc screen. The Creality BLTouch version is a way older version of Marlin but that works.....until you try to swap your SD card while running etc.

Don't do it with arduino, do it with vscode, it worked for me : marlinfw.org/docs/basics/install_platformio_vscode.html You will have an error at the first boot it's normal, just send a M502 and a M500 with the serial to fix it ;)

This is a great tutorial, I followed it carefully to update my CR-10s firmware (the latest Marlin and Arduino versions)) everything went well but when it came to verify, there was a "fatal error" so it didn't work. some coding error I believe - beyond my comprehension.
What exactly will this do to improve my prints? Thanks! :)
It wont improve your prints. If you don't have upgrades than its not necessary to change your firmware. Though one of the best benefits from configuring new firmware is the added benefit of thermal runaway protection to prevent your printer from potentially burning down your house. But custom firmware gives you greater control of your printer if that is something that is desired

I got to 4:38 and my computer wont allow me to copy the files from the Creality CR-10s folder and paste into the Marlin folder, the paste button is grayed out. Any clue as to how to fix this? Thanks
If anyone gets an error saying the file extension is too long, this can be fixed by just not using the Arduino IDE. I used VScode, and it worked!
I resorted to VScode for the same reason. I have a homing issue now, did you run into that?

I got a problem. After setting up my configuration.h file just as you explained my screen got distorted. I searched a little and found "screen garbage" but I can't figure out how to fix this. Is there anyone with similar problems that has a hint of how to fix this problem? This is my first firmware update and I am rather clueless at how to handle this problem.

Hi, Thanks for the great video. I tried to do that, using marlin 2.0.5 and the 2.0.x bugfix and I receive a warning: Low memory available, stability problems may occur. How can solve that? I am using a BLtouch 3.1 btw and the board of my cr10s is v2.2 or v2.1. Thanks.
PS: I found out that it happens only using arduino from 1.8.10 and newers.
Hey, were you able to get the bltouch 3.1 to work with your cr-10s? I have that same setup now and can't get the bltouch to stop at all. Been searching everywhere for a week with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I've been using a CR 10S now for a few months. I'm sure I'm older than you and I am having some issues. I tried connecting a micro sd to sd cord and had to still push in and out the part connected to the micro to get the regular sd to print to tf. Now my sd won't take my gcodes. I tried to connect the usb but in cura monitor, the printer controls does not come up. I don't know if I need an ip address which cura askes for. I'm not getting a print via usb when I slice a project. In short, I'm stumped! Please help! My name is Randy Thanks

After Upgrading to Marlin, My SD card reader isnt recognized. I can refresh but it kicks back to main boot screen . Any advise? Im still using stock Cr10s4 control box

Mine stopped recognizing the printer. Says com5 can't be reached. What can I do to fix and or trouble shoot this issue?
Try closing the IDE, unplugging and replugging the printer in, then reload the IDE.

The config file no longer holds the examples listed under that for the cr10s. Am I missing something? This is on the newest marlin

Do you have an alternative method rather than using the Arduino IDE?
This will no longer compile on the IDE - the error is
fork/exec C:\arduino\build new\arduino-nightly\hardware\tools\avr/bin/avr-gcc.exe: The filename or extension is too long.
Error compiling for board Arduino Mega or Mega 2560.
- This is with the latest nightly build, the same error exists in the standard build - but with the appropriate path.
Looking on the Arduino forums this is a longstanding issue that has not been resolved for multiple releases, one can only assume they are no longer planning on supporting this type of build (it still works for my arduino sketches some of which are very large and of similar size to this )
I just got my CR-10s last week and put in the bltouch and it has been a pain figuring all this crap out. I finally got to that point with arduino and got the same error. I found other people using VSCode instead of Arduino so I tried that and am able to get it to compile. I'm running a new desktop with an I7 processor and Arduino takes over 5 minutes to compile while using VSCode compiles in about 15 seconds. Still can't get the BLTouch to work though. This is a link I found with instructions for using it th-cam.com/video/W6zYvRgGr3Q/w-d-xo.html. If anybody has any suggestions for the BLTouch, I would greatly appreciate it. Using CR-10s with Version 2.2 mainboard in it and BLTouch 3.1 that came in Creality V1 Mainboard kit. Replaced the z switch with the BLTouch connector and plugged the sensor into the J11 spot. BLTouch lights up, solenoid fires, but when doing autohome, does not stop when probe is triggered.

Thanks for the tutorial. Very useful for a noobie like me. I managed to upgrade my CR10s to Marlin 2.0 but I have one issue. I cannot move my z axis to a negative value. I can only go up. I could go to a negative value before the Marlin upgrade. Why I cannot go negative on the z axis now?
If anyone has this issue, could be a bad connection to the z stop. Try replugging it

At 4 mins in you go into config file and then examples, when I open config there is a text README file, with a separate download for the default and examples folder, what do I do with that, It wont let me copy it over.

Follow this video a thousand time. Used two different windows lap tops and even a Mac book. Keep getting - Error complling for board arduino mega or mega 2560. Also that example file is no longer there when downloading marlin 2.0. Absolutely frustrating!!!!

man i need your help, i installed the bltouch following your guide on my cr-10s. it's a version2.2 board. now the machine won't home and i'm at my wit's end. I've scoured the net for a fix and i just keep running across other people with the same problem but no solution. can you help? I'm pretty sure it's a firmware problem.

What if there's no examples file
I have been trying to upgrade marlin 2.0.1 thru 2.0.5.3 for two days. The firmware looks like it is working. However the display Is messed up. Can barley can read the screen. It looks like the wrong display is selected. Motherboard is a the Creality v2.1 with the stock display. I looked at the Creality firmware v1.1.6 and found the display is REPRAP_DISCOUNT_FULL_GRAPHIC_SMART_CONTROLLER. I selected that display in the build, complied, and upload the firmware. When I rebooted the Controller the display is blank. If anyone has had this issue and corrected the issue - please help. Right now I'm back to V1.1.6

I get error message: "Err: EEPROM Version" after update from 1.9x to 2.05. How do I solve this?
go from the settings menu on the LCD and find the initials eeprom item. Then turn it off and on and that's it.

After update firmware 2.0.xx on cr10s according to video my display shows a shifted and/or random pixels. ;(
I hat to come back to marlin 1.1.6 download from offic creality web.
I tried code M502 and M500 enter to serial monitor on IDE arduino but it didn't help me.
Does anyone know what the problem is?
Got the same problem. Stock CR-10S that worked fine, now the screen is messed up and i can't figure out whats wrong. :-(

Had to resort to 1.1.9 2.0 kept producing u8glib error when compiling. cr10s5 stock board. :(
download the u8glib library. not super hard stuff. the error even tells you to download it and opens the down loader and puts it right in your face...i mean.if you cant work this stuff out maybe you should take up knitting or something.

There's no "Examples" folder in the download - 3Aug2020
There is a readme file. Open it in Editor und open that link that is shown there. Then you can download all the example files! ;-)

Error compiling for board Arduino/Genuino Mega or Mega 2560.
In Arduino >Tools, there are few things that need to be set i.e.Board set for Arduino/Genuino Mega or Mega 2560.
Another one is: Processor set for ATmega 2560, yet another one that I have no Idea how to and is:Programmer;
Please Help.

P.S We have a Cottage in the UK, Bingham, Nottinghamshire in 15 Fisher Lane, what a coincidence.
I would like to do this, but I upgraded to the EZboard lite and they won't give me info on the microprocessor and keep telling me to use their online configurator.
My LCD doesnt display after download, how can i fix this
I am having the same problem. After the upgrade my screen is jumbled and can not be read.
Same, can't figure it out. Though it's comforting to know I'm not the only one lol. Anyone figure it out?
I had the same problem, but get it fixed. Die you change the Serial_Port in programm ?

Was following-along with the video and pausing it occasionally to keep up. Then I didn't have the same files referred to in the Marlin folder after extracting it. So, I figure someone else probably had this problem too - maybe solution is in comments. Reading all the comments since this video posted - there are so many issues resulting in unusable printer (until solved), that there is no way I'd continue down this road. For me (and most people) 3D-printer is a tool, not a lifestyle. I just want it to work, not waste time managing it. Either this instruction is not quite correct, or software versions changed since January, or who knows. Was going down this road to install BL-Touch, now, I might put it in the trash instead - too risky from what I read here.
Went through following this video and the one on the BLTOUCH, and i get errors compiling now:

I've gone through libraries\manage libraries and downloaded the u8glib, and included it but maybe not in the right place?

At 12:29 your line 721 shows: #define DEFAULT_AXIS_STEPS_PER_UNIT { 80, 80, 400, 95 }
however, my corresponding line shows: #define DEFAULT_AXIS_STEPS_PER_UNIT { 80, 80, 4000, 500 }
That's a significant difference so I'm not sure why and what I should use - help.

oh, and as of Feb. 21, 2021, that's now line 744 for me.
{80, 80, 400, 95} is definitely the standard for all Creality machines. The default values you're seeing is the stock values in Marlin, but I know for sure the values we show are correct :). Thanks for asking!
In you video you make changes to lines 770 and 771 but this section is disabled without removing the comments from "#define CLASSIC_JERK" for the if statement on line 769

@@timothyboyd5669 Yes I tried it over and over shut it down started it up and all of a sudden it worked it was a frustrating experience.

When I checked the root it contains the following: C:\Users\customer1\Downloads\Marlin-2.0.x\Marlin\src\HAL\AVR\u8g_com_HAL_AVR_sw_spi
I dont know what to do I also tried the file in original unedited form and it did the same .

go to tools option in arduino, then manage libraries. let it load and search for u8G install the two missing libraries into arduino.
Nothing is easy. I get the "too long filename error" when compiling in Win10. It is a lasting Arduino IDE issue.
Have you tried any arduino alternatives?
@@cptwingnut576 Yes - same and more errors. But it went well on a Linux computer. I now have the newest Marlin for CR10S.

What the Heck is this?
Make sure you copied all 4 files to the Marlin directory. The error above says that _Bootscreen.h is missing from the Marlin folder, where the Configuration.h file is located.
You have helped me a lot, great work. I have had a problem when homing, the axes move very little and it gives me an error, I put a link with a video, to see if you could tell me what the problem is, I have tested the state of the end of race and checked with the pronterface pressing them and everything is correct, I have returned to the factory marlin and everything works again, some problem happens to me when it does the homing pattern .
