The Brick is a fun project, My father restores in his shop for the last 30+ years. he has all the parts and info needed for the restoration, complete body panels and new air system for the doors.

It does make we wonder... DATSUN (The car in MSC is a DATSUN 100A) is secretly Nissan, whereas this car was Merely imported to the USA by Bricklin of Subaru/FIAT. So while there's no _formal_ link, I would guess that the Yugo borrowed the look from the 100A, if only because the 100A was fairly popular, and it came 10 years before the Yugo. Still, that's a damn strong look alike, especially when you consider how close to the 100A in MSC it looks at the end.

Hearing that engine brings back childhood memories out of the 70s growing up in Germany. Fiats where everywhere and a lot of them got modified a bit too. The engines were pretty good, but you could see the cars rust in the sales brochure. 🤣🤣

Tavarish Yugo was used many years in driving schools all around ex Yugoslavia that is the reason for many good drivers on the roads there. We love them as they were cheap and easy to work on. Some are still used for racing (we don’t have race track we race on mountain roads) Thank you for bringing back memories on my first car

Disappointed with the finished product. Would have loved to have seen the Yugo finished off much better. It would have been great to have had a paint job and body work and new interior. It would have been great to have had the Yugo look so good that it made people start to get interested in them as being cool or hipsterish.

Yugos are rusted trough mostly today , even here where no snow falls and there is bearly any salt on the roads

The body panels on the Bricklin aren't painted fiberglass. What they are is impregnated acrylic over fiberglass. The same exact material used in bathtubs and showers. Malcolm Bricklin used to work in the hardware/home improvement industry, so that's where he probably got the idea. The pros of this were that you could just sand out scratches because the material was the exact same color underneath. The downsides to this were: 1)The acrylic was sandwiched to the fiberglass. So given that they were dissimilar materials, they would expand at different rates like a bi-metalic arm, so they always warp. Which is why most Bricklins with original hoods have pins in the front where the hinges are: to stop the warping. 2)The pigment in the acrylic fades at a totally different rate than the paint on the bumpers, so older cars look dissimilar. 3)Because it is acrylic, do NOT use petroleum-based primer if you're going to paint! Water-based only! If petroleum is used it causes an irreversible chemical reaction that cracks and destroys the body panels. Which means you have to buy an entire set of aftermarket replacements. The original doors were hydraulic, which meant they were painfully slow. Plus the risk of nasty failures since one journalist reviewing the car when new had a piston fail and sprayed hydraulic oil all over his coat inside the car. Far more reliable, and faster Pneumatic conversions are available. 74 offered manual transmissions, but they're very rare. Like the lack of cigarette lighters and ashtrays, Malcolm Bricklin built cars to his own tastes, and not consumers. The AMC derived engines are rumored to have been used because they were cheap surplus. AMC was set to put the AMX/3 into production, but pulled the plug at the last minute. So they sold all the excess engines to Bricklin. The Bricklin uses a "bird cage" safety cage to protect the occupants. While loading vehicles at the factory, an employee accidently launched one off of a truck, but walked away fine with no injuries. When the SV-1 was submitted for safety testing, it actually broke the hydraulic machine that tested roof strength and integrity by crushing the car. It set a record for roof strength that wouldn't be matched until decades later when the Tesla Model S arrived.

Once you have grown in the south of Europe in the 80's you know that the Yugo wasn't worse than other affordable cars of the time. Besides that 1.1L engine with 55HP was the "high output". Most FIATs and FIAT based cars had a 45HP 900cc engine. If I had this one with a 1.5L engine back then I would have been ecstatic.

I saw the old show Chop, Cut, Rebuild do one and it came out amazing. Check it out, they made the bumpers look better, and fixed all the jacked up fiberglass...you can turn this into a gem!

Weird, but I’m glad Robert is getting the yugo, because he’s exactly the right person for it. His enthusiasm for quirky cars is unmatched. I hope he keeps it and makes some videos with it, and preserves it.
What i take from this video is something so positive that no matter what color you are what your background is we as people need to get along like this and without judgement.
Used to own a Fiat 128 4door 1.3L in the 90s and despite the bad things about it, I went everywhere with it, family trips, fishing expeditions, camping... Never broke down completely as it was easy to service (and repair) and gave me plenty of memories, more then any other vehicle I've owned since then. Had to write it off in the late 90s, due to emissions regulations.

I am from ex Yugoslavia and I can tell you that worst car from 80s for rust was opels.. They start rusting badly after only few years

I believe they made them with heated back windows to keep your hands warm while pushing it in the winter. Pretty neat.

That was really nice if you to give Rob the yugo. It's good to see people happy and even better to hear a grown man giggle. That bricklin really doesn't look as bad as it could be, it's going to take some work but it's not a lost cause. Now you need to get a pantera

Weird, but I’m glad Robert is getting the yugo, because he’s exactly the right person for it. His enthusiasm for quirky cars is unmatched. I hope he keeps it and makes some videos with it, and preserves it.
Robert is probably the ONLY person to ever thank someone for gifting them a Yugo!
What i take from this video is something so positive that no matter what color you are what your background is we as people need to get along like this and without judgement.

Used to own a Fiat 128 4door 1.3L in the 90s and despite the bad things about it, I went everywhere with it, family trips, fishing expeditions, camping... Never broke down completely as it was easy to service (and repair) and gave me plenty of memories, more then any other vehicle I've owned since then. Had to write it off in the late 90s, due to emissions regulations.
