- Ilish Macher Paturi combines three of Bengal's greatest loves-the Hilsa fish, the banana plant, and mustard. Even though it looks very polished, it is a fairly easy recipe to execute. It requires very few ingredients, no special technique, and can be cooked very quickly.
Ilish or Hilsa, is however, is facing extinction due to high demand and overfishing. There is a need to create more consciousness about the importance of conserving a fish that is perhaps Bengal's greatest cultural icon.

I tried the same recipe with chicken,and it really worked . it is not very easy to cook alone in hostel especially when you are outside of west bengal..I convinced some of my frnds,we all made it,,,best wishes for this show,,,bong eats rocks...

I have followed this recipe inch by inch and the outcome is yummylicios. Being the right season for hilsas I really didn't have to wait much after watching this video. Getting banana leaf was a struggle here in Mumbai. But thankfully Ganesh puja is round the corner and I managed to get quite some banana leaves. Finding a large size was a challenge so had to manage with small banana leaf. Thus folding the fishes comfortably was a struggle. But all the efforts put behind was worth. All I had was an aromatic hilsa delicacy which I can crave for ant time.

the way you guys informed about the decreasing number of Ilish maach population and discussed the way to prevent it, the way you use "Nouns" in Bangla only is mesmerising. These come from not only for love of the cuisine or making a perfect cooking video, but from lots of love and and huge respect to our heritage and culture... Kudos to you guys...
