    This fruiting chamber is by far the easiest most effective low cost solution for hobby growers to start growing any mushroom they want!
    The plastic container should have quarter inch holes spaced 2 inches apart on all sides including the bottom.
    The perlite should be soaked for 30 minutes-1 hour while making sure the water does not leak out of the bottom holes.
    The water is then drained and the chamber is now ready.
    The perlite will “let off” moisture into the chamber over the course of many months before needing to be be resoaked.
    The many holes on the sides of the chamber will let in plenty of fresh air and can be taped off to adjust flow.

    Perlite is more of a drainage medium than it is something that soaks up moisture. I think you are thinking of vermiculite. Perlite does not swell when it is placed in water. It is added to potting mix as a light version of sand to allow water to move quickly through the soil.

    • @Will-ik9ty
      @Will-ik9ty 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      But the video shows that the perlite clearly soaked up the water

    • @hunterhickes2421

      no, it is to retain moisture in potting soil.

      Vermiculite is also used for drainage if I’m not mistaken

    • @viscerallove792
      @viscerallove792 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Perlite absorbs a small amount of water. The terrarium design here allows for a humid atmosphere inside without the use of a humidifier. Air moves from areas of low pressure to areas of high pressure, and cold air has a lower pressure than warm air. By placing a water-soaked perlite layer on the bottom of the terrarium, creating a cool area of relatively low pressure compared to the air in the chamber above. The area above the perlite is slightly warmer, due to both the respiring mycelium and the heat from the light source, and so is at a relatively higher pressure. A "pressure gradient" is created between the cool air in the perlite and the slightly warmer air above; this drives air molecules from the perlite up into the growing chamber and out of holes near the top. This serves 2 purposes:
      -Water vapor in the perlite is mixed with the air and drawn upwards, humidifying the grow chamber. Misting replaces the water lost from the perlite.
      -carbion dioxide gas, which prevents pinning, is drawn up and out of the terrarium, encouraging mushrooms to begin forming. 🌈 the more we know. Happy growing, everyone!

    • @SporenSprout
      @SporenSprout  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the feedback and congratulations on your success! It is normal for there to be “aborts” when the cake doesn’t have enough energy or water to disperse equal growth between all pins. There will always be a few aborted pins and they usually turn blue/black and fall off easily after developing fuzzy feet. Just pull them off before they turn black and dry them up. You can dunk the cakes for 4 hours after they dry out and try again but the immune system slowly becomes compromised so watch out for green mold at the end and dispose of it.

    • @SporenSprout

      People seem to confuse the two. Perlite is only used for humidification. Vermiculite is added to substrate or cakes that are placed ON TOP of the perlite to provide the humid environment. If you had a humidifier you wouldn’t need perlite.

    • @viscerallove792
