I test drove all of this (In Canada) and my heart went to the CR V, though its not the most attractive it had all I need space, practicality, AWD low base price, Honda reliability and resell value is one of the best. Though in my opinion you wont go wrong with any of these four choices.
@Glenn Stewart, have you even driven a Forester with the new CVT? It's a fantastic gearbox and unlike any other CVT on the market currently (ie X-Trail). I much prefer a manual but it changed my opinion of auto SUV's and I've just bought the Forester 2.5i.
Nice review, and we tried them all out, ended up buying the forester because of the quiet engine and superb cargo space. The cx5 was our second chosen but it had less legroom and more wind noise, and for essentially the same price we got awd without losing mpgs doing the Forester
Forester 2014 motor trends suv of the year. But the mazda is nice too. Mazda is getting better and better. Mazda 6 and Mazda 3 both on Car & Drivers top 10 BEST cars.
Depends on what you want. Storage - CRV. Storage - RAV4. Cons for both remarked in nearly all reviews - so-so driving. 4WD - Forester. Cons: The CVT is one of the most hated transmissions and interior. Driving ability: CX-5. Cons: UI in Nav and smaller storage. Nearly all reviews worldwide (particularly UK, Germany and US) give nod to CX-5.
Forester! It is a true SUV with true AWD system and with True off road capabilities within the Crossovers SUV segment. It is not meant to be a "car-like, grossery getter" SUV with too much luxury details inside, but a practical car with functional and Outdoor Trips resistance interiors, and still a good family car. With the XT X-Mode model, you can get a way more fun to drive SUV than the CX-5. CR-V and Rav4 are just for families on tarmac roads trips and soccer/grossery weekends.
Personally, I like the ways you guys presented the vehicle, humorous and direct. Have you done an individual presentation on the Forester 2.0 XT? It will be good to see how it turns out.
Driven crv since 2002. It has about 250,000 miles already. Still in excellent condition. Got new crv last weekend. Will see if it performances same or not.
they said the forester gets the second best fuel? Did I hear wrong? The forester is the best AWD at 32mpg. The Mazda only gets 31mpg in the awd model...
Mazda probably engineered or customized their CX5 to be a jacked-up hatchback. Good on normal roads but won't be able to hold up against the Forester in bad roads. The Forester strikes a good balance between on and off driving. The forester here is the base model, the Turbo XT model has better suspension for high speed road driving. Sad to see many modern SUVs going for modern striking looks vs functionality. Take a drive on a forester or the good old toyota land cruiser and you will understand the true joy of owning a SUV with good ground clearance and huge windows with all round visibility.
+SK Lim Watching other youtube videos, the CX5 seems to do not too badly offroad so for the vast majority of people who will likely stay on the road and maybe go off it only once in a while when necessary, the CX5 offroad capabilities would be more than enough. I'm in the market right now looking at a CUV/SUV and while the Forester and Outback both seem like pretty good cars for the most part, I just can't get over how ugly and/or mediocre they look. All these years and they STILL can't design a nice looking SUV or crossover. I know looks aren't everything, but cmon Subaru put some effort into designing a nice looking car that people would be proud of owning and showing off. If they could ever do that, I think they'd sell even more cars than they do now and its the main reason why I won't be looking at Subarus even though there's alot to like about their cars. But sorry, if I'm going to be driving a car for at least a few years, I want something that when I look at it will make me say 'Yeah that sexy car is MINE' =)
The Mazda and Honda if you live in a place where it doesn't snow and you are never are going to take it off road. But if you live down a dirt trail or in a place where it snows then the Subaru all the way. It has the most ground clearance and the best four wheel drive system.
@2:06 HANDS Down! No further watching needed...I bought the Forester outgoing model and tried the new model reviewed in video, I feel sooooo much more control and its just plain grippier. MPG is not bad for AWD. and the new IISH crash test; Forester is the only one that got "good" marks on a off center frontal crash, everyone else..."average". Maybe biased but numbers don't lie..most of the times :P
Forester has superior outward visibility. The rest of the cars are so stylish that you can't really see anything outside (especially rear and blind spots).
Forgot to mention one other important thing, the Subaru has the best all around crash test ratings. Subaru is the only small SUV to get a "Good" rating for the small frontal overlap test. 25% of all accidents happen this way. Honda and Mazda received a "Marginal" rating and Toyota an awful "Poor" rating. Now which SUV would you rather put your family in? I'd put mine in a Subaru.
Off road test would have been nice to see what handles better in the sand. After all thats why I am looking at these for the occasions I can take the family for a beach run. Good review though would just like to see what they are capable of. Cheers
toyota or honda . if don't have money , get cx-5 ( it has to be less money. if not , don't buy ) get forester if you mostly driving off pavement. forester is sub compact suv. and need to be updated. ( i know it is updated.but it's still on old body. i meant more like rav4 and crv.) by the way what's up with vw, mitsubishi, nissan ?
Hm The presenter obviously hasn't done his research. He doesn't know that a standard factory Forester was driven on the Nurburgring race track at 180 kph. Try that with the other SUV s and see how many people will be off the intensive care ward. Some people just talk crap!
Dude take ur own Fuckin advice & obviously U havent done ur research cause the Mazda CX5 has been driven on a Race track to record the performance of one of the top of the line Audi racing sports cars. They used the CX5 while driving ahead of that Audi. So U would have to assume the CX5 could hold its own & probably even better than the Forester..lol.Stats dont lie & every reviewer put the CX5 that not only has the best mileage but also the best handling&Power with CUV's. Only thing Forester is better is the off road all wheel drive especially with their new 2015 Outback wagon. But for the general public that do not go off road. They could give a shit about that..lol. Even in the CUV section. If they wanted to go off road people would buy SUVs or Pickup Trucks.
id get the crv, no point in trying to find something sporty or stylish among this class, itll only do so much. so just go for the most practical and comfortable one. honda knows their market
Unless there's some difference with the Australian models or their testing methodology, the Forester has better fuel economy ratings than the 2.5L CX-5 by a hair. My ranking would go: 1. Forester, 2. CX-5, 3. Rav-4, 4. CR-V. The CR-V is the most boring of the lot and features the most awkward styling.
PSS: Glenn, down a little farther than Piccolo in this list, should put the bong down. NO review I've read, (out of "a lot"), except this one from Australia, and SPONSORED reviews, puts the CR-X in the same class as the Forester or the Honda. 5 seconds in these cars will tell you that. If all you care about is looks, the CR-X might be your choice. for EVERYTHING else, it's gotta be a different vehicle.
I drove all of them and found CX-5 to be the most awful. I still can't get why journalists praise it. It handles miserably on gravel, it is loud, small and quality is questionable. CRV has no ground clearance and handles like a truck. Rav4 is OK, I didn't like the feel in it but all in all it is OK, was my second choice. Subaru is what I bought.
Beware Aus Rav 4 buyers. The "options" don't exist, you can't get a manual or a space saver so that's AU$2800 Toyota shove down your throat. Borderline false advertising.
DON`T BUY SUBARU !! I DON`T WANT TO SEE IDIOTS ON MY CAR,WE R SUBARU FAMILY WE KNOW WHAT WE DRIVE ALL OTHERS GET UR F...ING RAV OR HONDA DONT BY MY CAR SUBARU ALL DAY LONG
I test drove all of this (In Canada) and my heart went to the CR V, though its not the most attractive it had all I need space, practicality, AWD low base price, Honda reliability and resell value is one of the best. Though in my opinion you wont go wrong with any of these four choices.
I have a 2018 rav4 parked in my garage and let me tell you, it is comfortable and amazing
@Glenn Stewart, have you even driven a Forester with the new CVT? It's a fantastic gearbox and unlike any other CVT on the market currently (ie X-Trail). I much prefer a manual but it changed my opinion of auto SUV's and I've just bought the Forester 2.5i.
I really fine it hard to pick between the crv and maxda cx5
Just bought the rav4. Cant comment on the other cars but very happy with my purchase
Nice review, and we tried them all out, ended up buying the forester because of the quiet engine and superb cargo space. The cx5 was our second chosen but it had less legroom and more wind noise, and for essentially the same price we got awd without losing mpgs doing the Forester
I've loved the cr-v ever since I saw a 2000 model. it's changed, but not significantly. I love it.
Forester 2014 motor trends suv of the year. But the mazda is nice too. Mazda is getting better and better. Mazda 6 and Mazda 3 both on Car & Drivers top 10 BEST cars.

Got the CX5
Holden Captiva? Or at least something Australian built?
Personally, I like the ways you guys presented the vehicle, humorous and direct. Have you done an individual presentation on the Forester 2.0 XT? It will be good to see how it turns out.
We a have a 4th generation CR-V and we love it but I could see why they chose the CX-5. Both great CUV's and you can't go wrong with either!
Mazda all the Way! Fun to drive and not to mention is very fuel efficient.👍
How about santa fe sport?
got rav4 2013 lov it :)
no ford kuga or mitsubishi outlander?
Driven crv since 2002. It has about 250,000 miles already. Still in excellent condition.
Got new crv last weekend. Will see if it performances same or not.
And what is the verdict 6 years on?
they said the forester gets the second best fuel? Did I hear wrong? The forester is the best AWD at 32mpg. The Mazda only gets 31mpg in the awd model...
I recommend getting a Forester 2.5 Premium or if you want more power, go for the Forexter XT. It's AWD with X-Mode is very useful for going off-road.
Wouldn't part my money with any of these. What about a comparison between Q5, X3 and ML also GL, Q7 and X5.
Mazda probably engineered or customized their CX5 to be a jacked-up hatchback. Good on normal roads but won't be able to hold up against the Forester in bad roads. Should have used the Forester XT for the review. Very fun vehicle.

Rav 4. 2.2L Diesel = better on fuel then all of them.....
Plus i trust the toyota to last the longest and be cheap to fix when it needs it.

We all know that the Honda CRV is a better SUV because honda mke more durable vehicles at the end of the day.
stanwell tops :)
sure forester is the best one
looking X-Trail diesel with mechanic ;)
forester xt or cx5 but i rather have the subaru
The honda is the most boring drive with little feedback. I like the subaru the most especially the awd and the huge moon roof.
Rav4 all the wayyyyy
the XT requires premium gas.
Toyota the best
Кто победил то
toyota should bring fortuner in oz
say that to a Forester STI
маркетологи :)
маленькие моторы, легкие и ненадежные вариаторы, мизерные клиренсы в угоду управляемости в городе и тд...
Honda all the way.
