Hello after 10 years. Did ur mazda cx5 do well, I would like to know if u got rid of it or mazda aged well cuz im very interested in this model. I would love some info about it by previous owners (if u have the same youtube account ofc) bye
I researched for months and read all reviews on the best compact SUVs and tested both CX5 and RAV4. We really wanted to like the CX5 better because of its gas mileage and high ratings but love the way the RAV4 looks inside and out. I am happy with the way it drives. We ended up choosing the AWD RAV4 and so far, couldn't be happier. I was pleasantly surprised to find out the back seats in the RAV recline and there is a lot of head and leg room in front and back seats.
I own both cars. A blue 2013 Mazda CX-5 2.2 Skyactive-D AWD 175ps in the top trim Revolution (SatNav, Parking cam and sensors, Leather seats etc) and a white top trim 2015 Toyota RAV4 2.0 AWD petrol. Engines aside, the Mazda drives, looks and feels better and has better mileage. The Toyota...has a better both. Thats all. I hate the windnoise and actually all cabin noise from the cx-5. I hate the looks and driving of the rav4 in general. The cx-5 is for fun and power. The rav4...IDK...for whats worth, its a bit less noisy.
@@SIIKAP1 Listen people. I bought the 2.2 cx5 2013 and it had and has a factory fault in that year. Sorry. English is bad, bu the top part of the motor where there are two metal pipes that rotate let lose some small particles into the engine and it just died. New engine and rwpwrirs were 7000eur, so I sold the shitty car. It's a bad car. The 2014 2.0 petrol is great but it's a bad car all in all. Don't waste your money.
I don't get why people think it's SO absurd to test a CUV on a track. How else are you going to test it? Would you test a Mazda 6 on the track? Yes? Well they both have the same engines available and get this - a weight difference of only 11 lbs. Mazda 6: 3183 lbs / 111.4" wheelbase Mazda CX-5: 3194 lbs / 106.3" wheelbase Yes of course I realize a CUV is taller and has a higher suspension setup, but we're not talking about some truck here. This is basically a raised hatchback.
Great video.. I was torn between a 2014 CX-5 & 2013 Rav4. I ended up going with the Rav mainly because of resale and interior comfort and looks. It's true that, especially on the Limited trim, the ride is rough and I cringe when I drive over even a minor pothole. Now, if I could afford an X3 this would be a different conversation!
I actually like both of these cars. If I were to buy one, it would be the Toyota due to its excellent engine and transmission. It is a proven product. The Mazda may be good also, but I would wait until it has been around a couple of years like the Toyota's drive-train.
No way I could invest 30k on Mazda. Toyota makes a more reliable and quality vehicle. This test isn't going to target the demographic for either vehicle.
My 92 Escort GT (part Mazda) is still running. With current warranties and modern roads, any major make will last at least 3 years, very likely 5. Are you going to hang on to your car for 25 years? If not, it doesn't matter.
I really like the mazda cx-5's looks.....But what I really want to know is whether the song played i the beginning in a music track...if so, i'd really like to get the name
Hey guys, it's so funny when you compare vehicles like this and complain about things that are your own personal taste. Why don't you compare reliability through quality history? When a consumer buys a vehicle, it better start everyday and keep going as long as possible. All the electronic gadgets, fancy interior, correctly placed buttons will not replace quality!
My wife and I are going to buy the rav4 because of the overall dependability, reliability, and resale value. Happy that Mazda is making some headway in the US but I don't trust their small dealer network or their long term dependability rating.
thats probably an exception Ford came in at the bottom last year on overall reliability according to Consumer Reports, Toyota group and Mazda ranked 1, 2 respectively statistics speak for themselves
It was joke? Interior in rav4 better then cx-5? Maybe in USA another material in this cars, but in Russia cx-5 have soft plastic, aluminum and real leather, but rav-4 hard plastic, painted plastic and synthetic leather. And rav4 with "leather" have disgusting smell. And design of interior, i don't understate, but rav4 inside is not so good.
I had to say the same, my CX-5 here in Taiwan has a way nicer interior than the RAV-4 with just the base model. I think it's different in the US, but the new Skyactiv of Mazda makes this car so fun to drive and builds a lot of confidence in controlling the vehicle.
seriously, CX-5 do not drive like a CUV, it's more like a sedan for its steering and body rolling. Nice car. RAV-4 has reputations of engine and transmissiong lasting for ever, thanks for FORDs suckie ass tranny ruining Mazda's reputation. But the new skyactiv technology that had included engine, tranny, and all the way down to the chasis makes the Mazda a much much nicer ride to have~
Rav4 needs to go back to the previous gen but without the swinging gate. V6 for efficient power. More then 6 inches of ground clearance (basically a hatchback camry) Get rid of the grey plastic stuff >.>
I guess they were trying to be nice and find something decent to say about the Toyota. The interior is a mess. The Mazda looks much more refined from the gauges to the steering wheel and dashboard. On top of that the RAV4 has much lower ground clearance than the old one and I believe the Mazda 's is now actually greater. Toyota seemed to have forgotten that people tend to buy these to help them get through snow storms without being hung up.
Consumer reports allways rates imports better than home grown brands, also Escape was ranked last due to My Ford Touch not because it had lack of quality or not even because of 1.6 ecoboost recall, and consumer reports may have rated it worst but even now Escape is competing to the 1st spot in best selling compact crossovers in US,its because people like quality, handling, solidity of Escape, by 2016 new Escape facelift will arrive i think that will mark end of Rav4,CR-V era
The mazda winns hands down.I have a mazda and toyota but have you ever noticed that toyota and honda can't ever make a crossover like the rav4 or crv look good. If the back looks good and front is bad, and if the front looks good the back looks bad. Just like todays honda crv the front looks really good and the back looks bad same for the rav4
if you say no one considering these care about laptimes why are you spending so much of the review talking about them in that context? personally i am interested in how they handle on the limits so the generalisations are void. fwiw tho i think in proper hands the cx5 would be more than 1.5 seconds quicker with the amount of understeer the rav has
absurd? brilliant! i'm an aspiring track-day junkie (in my speed3), but have a baby on the way. i'll be in the market for a CUV at some point soon, i'm sure!
maybe mazda is more fun to drive but in 4-5 years lets see how much fun it will be when your mazda is already full of rust and starting to get expensive to fix, and after 2-3 years has dropped in resale value substantialy, toyota quality , reliability and resale value is number 1, honda and subaru are way ahead of that cheaply built mazda also
Haha All these negative comments about CUV's obviously if the Mazda won but you TOYOTA / Mazda cheerleaders won't just go out an test drive them yourselves you see what's best for you.
Ford Escape is better than both of these, Mazda has wind noise road noise and has stiffer suspension than Ford, Escape has the best balance between stiffness and plushness in ride and it handles better than RAV4 just shy of cx-5
why don't they talk about things like towing? can it tow a caravan or small or big trailer. how is it offroad? you guys act like it only is used as a pavement princess
176 horsepower to 184 horsepower not a big difference lol. its not like the mazda is 250 hp lol. i bet that Rav4 will outlast that mazda lol in reliability and fixing it lol
Yeah.... Mazda now has a higher reliability rating than Toyota. The rav 4s sell good because their boring family cars. Only the new 2019+ ones are cool. But they're WAY to slow for them to have 205hp With even the base 2.5l 185hp cx5 still having better acceleration and handling. That's not factoring in the 250hp turbo 2.5 Mazda now offers as of 2019
Good comparison but I find most reviews are abt speed, power, tork, interior and blah blah and forget the most important aspects - reliability and dependability. No mentioning about how long a vehicles can last or the engine quality. Hope you can focus more on the quality of the engine than just the farts they make in the future. No offense 😂
What about Subaru Forester, i'm sure that the naturaly aspireted version will smoke these two, and forget the XT turbocharged version hahaha! Subarus are sporty, these two are not!
Toyota designers should be replaced with ones that actually care about design....not to mention Toyotas all feel like your driving a sponge. The RAV4 is ugly inside and out. It's perfect for people that only care about moving from point A to point B and couldn't care less about driving dynamics or just fun. Perfect for my grandma
2021 Comment: Mazda CX-5 has aged fantastically well. Still looks 2016-2017 ish
Impressed with the CX5; would be inclined to choose this over the Rav4 4
The review that i have been looking for! Because of this cx5 got my money. Thanks great review btw.

Buy Rav4 for reliability and comfort. CX-5 for driving dynamics and better MPG.
Also more cargo space , which is significant.
For the Rav4
I actually like both of these cars. If I were to buy one, it would be the Toyota due to its excellent engine and transmission. It is a proven product. The Mazda may be good also, but I would wait until it has been around a couple of years like the Toyota's drive-train.
Soooo, it’s been around for more than a couple years now & it’s awesome!!! You would’ve made a horrendous decision, goobs.
I like the front of the Toyota, but I like the rear of the Mazda... And the interior of the CR-V.
CX5... good job, Mazda!

The Toyota looks ugly as hell compared to the CX-5. To me, looks mean a lot and therefore the Mazda is easily the one I'd pick.
to us asian like the looks of rav4 Toyota all the way I own 15 rav4
to most of you asians you dont own even a tenth of a rav4, you truly own only the communism ideology, sorry!
ugly but it will outlast that mazda lol
And the Escape was also recalled 3 times in its first year, one of them catching fire while driving

I'm wondering how black makes the CX-5 interior 'conservative'?
I have issue with you saying the Rav4 has leather interior. It does NOT. It's a synthetic "pleather" type material.
thats probably an exception
Ford came in at the bottom last year on overall reliability according to Consumer Reports, Toyota group and Mazda ranked 1, 2 respectively

The Mazda is still the better choice, and Toyota is the "mainstream" choice.
Mazda! It always come down to mazda. Heck yay!

Probably his personal preference. The CX-5 has a really nice interior in the USA.
I would like to see 2014 Mazda CX5 vs 2014 Nissan Rogue track comparison.
The only "premium" at the 2013 toyota rav4 is the price. At last here in Mexico, prices are to expensive.
for some reason the shorter guy driving the mazda looks like the dude from Eurotrip
Nice review. The red car won!
I wonder why they do not
show these vehicles driving in tge snow or other invlimate weather.
When you actually use the Rav4 for its intended purpose of carrying things you’ll appreciate that stiffer rear suspension.
Also, I'm going from an Impreza that was great in the snow to this Rav4... I hope it will be as good in the snow!
