There's only one elephant in the room and it talks.....

In fact, Breitling would purchase ebauche 2824-2 movements from ETA and have them modified inhouse as Breitlings own movements, of Breitling standard. Around 2010 however, Breitling started to make their own all inhouse movements due to ebauche supply shortages. In reality one could argue that the Super Ocean Heritage movement only is half an ETA movement.

The ETA movements in Breitling, Longines, Omega, IWC, Chopard, Chronoswiss, Heuer and the likes, apart of being well finished and accurate (out of the box) ... have one major advantage over any in house movement. When your watch manufacturer's warranty expires ... every idiot can service it and repair it. The Breitling service of the watch with ETA2824-2 (B17) movement, costs around £750.00 (US$1000 ?). Your local watchmaker would charge you for service £150.00 (US$200.00 ?) + parts.
As ETA2824-2, ETA2892-A2 and variations of ETA7750 movents, used in majority of Swiss made watches, are several decades old designs, you are guaranteed reliability, longevity and serviceability for decades to come.

Nothing wrong with an ETA movement. In house movements? To me it means more expensive to have serviced.

Agreed. In-house movements aren't any better than ETA, in some cases worse.

AGREED! In many “cases” eta movements are more reliable. And yes, some of the in-house movements cost dumb money to service. Talking four figures to have a watch serviced. I don’t know about other people but if I spend 2-10K on a watch, I don’t feel like paying $800 every four or five years for a fuckin SERVICE. Dumb dumb dumb.

watch some recent Archie videos and find out he now says eta is a crappy generic mvt...(it all depends what you can afford hey?) people mix up a basic eta and a "top" grade eta with superior spring and balance metals: that's what poeple need to know

The vast majority of customers doesn't even have the slightest clue about movements they probably buy watches considering only aestethics and the allure swiss watches have. That's what the shrewd chocolate-eaters know well, they make a livin on that.

  • @denny8548
    @denny8548 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Watch is chronometer certified so they didn't just install 2824 and call it a day. There are many other brands in this price range or even higher uses ETA or similar and they don't even bother with COSC bullshit.

Dont forget all rolex cases were supplied by genex and rolex was always outsourced movements until 2004 !

Dont know why this is a big deal as Tudor, IWC, Tag, Omega, Hublot, Cartier, Buti, Frank Mueller, Oris, Chopard, Panerai , B&R, the list goes [infact the majority of swiss brands including uber priced brands) has used ebauches from eta/sellita/valjoux/ unitas/soprod. Even the Iwc grand complication upwards of $200k used valjoux as a base.. until the "in-house buzz" that everyone and their mother is jumping on.
most companies are doing due to lack of supply and marketing purposes.. the fact is most "inhouse"besides those who has been making inhouses since the inception (JLC, zenith) have no experience, are not proven, often rushed to the market, and not serviceable by anyone besides the manufacturer who may or may not seize to exist or make the movement in the future.
in houses are ONLY great if made by a competent manufacture who has mastered the art
Besides that I rather have a proven workhorse that I know will be serviceable.
Example, I had to send back my Tudor BB GMT due to movement glitch..

My Seiko Alpinist has an in house movement and is rated at 20 bar...."now what do you think of that fucker ?" Is it still a shiter ? Lol

All this story to justify the fact that you approve watch powered by non in house after having spitting on it for many videos ... AC3 = non consistency.
One last thing regarding Tudor, eta is part of their dna as Tudor was suppose to be the cheaper version of the Rolex ... Which was not the fact for Breitling and Tag heuer who were just looking to cut corners with generic movements to sell watch for premium without having to invest to develop in house movement.

ETA is a perfectly fine movement. It's the watch that sucks - with ETA or Tudor. The iconic divers are Rolex, Blancpain & Omega. Even with a Rolex movement in it, this watch is no good. It is not about the movement.

Desperately trying to RATIONALISE A SHITTER arch? BUY A DECENT WATCH. Patek or Lange are the real collectors choice. All these shitters are mass produced factory made brand name shitters.

  • @xuliuk

lol Breitling is far from being "high-end". I have nothing against ETA or Breitling (Yes, I have Super Ocean Heritage 42 in my collection), but to borrow Archie's words, it is a shitter.
