Singer 700 Series - Bobbin Case Positioning

- This video shows how to remove the bobbin case to clear a jam or do some cleaning and then how to correctly reinstall the bobbin case.
There's a latch that holds the bobbin case in position and if the latch gets moved, the bobbin case will move out of its correct position.
Applies to all Singer 700 Series sewing machines.

I've just taken my Singer model 628 to a repairman twice in one week. By watching your video....my gosh....you have helped me so much!! I couldn't get that bobbin holder thing back in after getting it out after it jammed AGAIN!! I've learned a lot by watching your video. Thank you sir!!

Thank you for putting out this video! I was given a 626 and the needle was hitting the bobbin case and broke the needle. Your video showed me exactly how to adjust the case so it moves smoothly again! These machines are so superior to the ones made today IMO. Greetings from California..

Hi can you ple help me with my touch n sew 758 ? The needle is hitting the shuttle base where the bobbin is inserted. Not sure what to do

My husband just salvaged one on the side of the road and I was wondering if the dog feed is plastic, because this one is totally smooth on both of them. I have taken allot of machines apart and cleaned and oiled and fixed them. But this one has me stumped. I think it is an easy fix but I don't know. There’s no accessories, books or anything to show me.

Very helpful. I inherited a 600e in its cabinet with a stool all the original pieces. I Have never sewed with a machine. And only basic stuff by hand. This should help me alot.

Am so happy to have come across this video after I got myself a singer machine from a thrift shop .I am committed to learn how to sew but an hitting a wall on some steps especially on hooking the bobbin . I have the 603e which i cleaned and couldn't put back together. It was NOT exactly the same, but it still worked. 😊

Although I have a Touch and Sew Deluxe 629, your video helped me understand how the bobbin works. My problem is the bobbin positioning bracket does not have the screw head to keep it in place. The screw in the video looks a lot larger than the one I have, which cannot be removed from the machine. Please offer any way to remedy this!!! Thank you

@@InStitches it did... I picked up the 645 at a church yard sale for less than 10$ and it had just been serviced and cleaned... it came with all the attachments in a box but no manual... I was very excited to get to use it for the first time...

Thank you a lot. I have just bought a 746 in good condition. I am very used to vertical bobbins (I restored and use constantly my grandma 222K singer Featherweight). On the machine I bought, I find the bobbin tension very very loose, no resistance at all, which results on a needle thread tension at maximum 2. I messed aroud with the little screw on the bobbin case but it seems to have little to no effect. I wonder if you could give me a hint about how tight should be the right tension? Do you think that the old bobbins are the culcripts? Maybe the needle thread tension is too high? But I think it is right when I pull by hand at 4.

Why would my bobbin latch not have the spring tension. Having g trouble removing the bobbin case
is the 600 and 700.series have the same bobbin casing? my flip.lever just flops around. Is there a bar,screw, and lever on bottom.side of the casing to help hold the lever against the bobbin? i wish my mom would just buy a 2020 model haha

It's difficult to say for sure but it could the a broken plastic piece at the bottom of the bobbin winder lever. Thanks.

thank you for t your videos they are helping me repair my 760. i have a question my bobbing case keeps jumping after a few stiches and i keep breaking the needles. it sounds horrendous when it sews too. do you have any advice
Thanks. Make sure you have oiled the hook race. Check out my other videos as I'm sure I have gone through that on the Singer 700 series machines.

While I was sewing, the thread jammed and the bobbin case popped out of position. I was able to reset it (thank you so much for the video), but for some reason the thread keeps jamming.
It's the needle thread, and for some reason it keeps getting stuck underneath the bobbin case. Any ideas on how to fix it? (It's a zig zag 750 if that helps)
Make sure the area under the bobbin case is clean and free of any stray pieces of thread. Also make sure the bobbin winder is not partially engaged.

Is it supposed to constantly spin the bobbin? Mine spins half way then stops and you have to spin it by hand the rest of the way and then it catches and spins half way again.
I assume you're talking about the hook, the large ring that spins around the bobbin case? If so, yes, it's supposed to turn constantly. May be a broken gear that drives the hook. Thanks.

I did all of this, then adjusted the timing and all seemed to be well. Everything works fine until I put a piece of fabric under the feed dogs, then the needle hits the hook. I just can't figure out why this is happening. Any ideas why a piece of fabric would make it act differently?
It could be the feed timing is out, so the fabric could be feeding when the needle is in the fabric?
@@InStitches I found a video and adjusted the feed dogs. Prior to that I had changed out the needle, upon close inspection, the tip was ever so slightly bent. I adjusted the hook timing slightly again. That all helped, and it's stitching...well, the tension dial, no matter where I put it the upper thread loop on the bottom. I just noticed the needle position and the stitch width dials do not line the needle up properly with the presser foot, so that may be the issue.
Sounds like the timing may still be out but it's hard to say for sure without looking at the machine. Thanks.

Hi, make sure when you have the black disks installed that you have the stitch length set to forward stitching.

even being in the central position, the needle is moved a few millimeters to the right (I have a singer 778)
You may already, but make sure the stitch selector set to straight stitch. Also put in brand new needle.
When you put the machine into zig zag pattern at the full width, does the needle hit the plate if you turn it over carefully by hand?
Keep an eye out for my upcoming video on how to use the 700 series machines.
Failing that, the needle bar may need adjusting but I don't have a video on that yet.

Thanks. The first thing to try is make sure you have installed a brand new needle, make sure it's the correct type and inserted the correct way around and is pushed into the needle bar as far as it will go.

Thank you for the videos you have on the 700 series. I was given a Singer 702 and I haven't been able to use it. I suspect the bobbin case has a problem, it does not move even after I have adjusted the lever to hold the bobbin case in place.
I really do not know what to do anymore. Would it be possible to unscrew the whole mechanism in the bobbin area and check if something is broken? Will it affect the machine?

@@InStitches I watched the video last week and it is the same issue! The plastic is broken into several pieces and mouldy too. It is just so annoying!
