To that person who commented about "selling out and abandoning the Philippines for America" - OMG, GROW UP, FFS. You're gonna bash her because she's internationally successful? It is NOT her fault if the "masang pilipino" cannot appreciate her talent. We don't have the means to in the first place. I can't afford to go on musicals in PICC. If we were educated enough, we would be able to appreciate every inflection with which she sings. We wouldn't just be impressed by singers who can belt out a good tune. There are singers, then there are GOOD singers, and she's one of them. Besides, it's not her fault she oozes so much talent that she was contracted for Miss Saigon, Les Mis, AND two Disney movies. Not to mention winning a Tony Award for her performance.
Seriously. Don't make this into a whole "abandoning the country" shit. I could write a whole essay about this. But I won't. Because there's a word limit.

I adore Lea Solonga. If she is a b...h, it is because she is a freaking megastar. Not just a "star," she is a superstar to the nth degree. She was born to be one. Her stardom was undeniable. Don't call her a b...h, call her a diva. It must be damn near impossible to be that talented and that amazing without occasionally saying things that seem to us mere mortals as condescending. Lea didn't left Philippines. Just think about 'how many months they practice for a play or theater or musical? How many days they'll be showing it? In how many cities or countries? Lea grew up singing and doing musicals, it's just so happen that she was given a talent noone in her time can match her (Well, there are Monique Wilson, Pinky Amador and Regine Velasquez), she grabbed the opportunities, honed her talent, explore its world and be recognized. Lea did movies here you know, so, noone can't say that she left Phils for US or London -- Captain Barbel of Herbert Bautista and Sana Maulit Muli with Aga Muhlach. She also speaks Tagalog well. Just grow up. If you were not yet alive in the 90s, you won't really understand -- we live simple life and appreciates simple things, its not about being a Pinoy or Makabayan. Just be inspired.

Then what's the point of "live" singing if the singer isn't going to sing "live".. I mean, it's called "live" for a reason, isn't it? If you can't handle doing what a singer has to do, then why be a singer? if you can't perform live, then why do live concerts? using the excuse of singing big songs over and over is hard is just lame in my opinion. If you're gonna sing for a living, you have to be able to handle singing all those big songs on a regular basis. If you can't, then might as well quit.

Sung with her, spoke with her, sat with her in a table....she can be intimidating first impression, but she can be a ordinary person...she is truthful...blunt...and people sometime cant handle that. How can this even be a thing?? Of course singers shouldn't lipsync - it's like being an actor but having someone else say the lines. It's preposterous it's even a debate! If you are a singer - sing. It's that simple. And if you can't sing you should probably get another job.

I can see why sometimes singers lipsync. Say you have a show and thousands of people pay a ticket, but something always happens... the singer gets a bad sore throat or cold and still needs to perform. They can't deliver the song the way its mean't to be sung, so they lip sync. They could sing with the sore throat or cold but it'll sound bad and they still want to give the audience a good show.

Almost all famous celebrity musicians lip synch. It's part of the industry and it's dishonest. I don't think these musicians are brave enough to admit they do. They have no integrity in their lives. I know they are pressured into doing certain concerts and acting in certain ways to make more money for the music corporations, but being fake should not be accepted.

I don't agree on her comment on Sam. Sam's On My Own in the movie may not be the best by I will never say the concert version is better. Really glad they went away with the broadway type of singing because it would have ruined the emotions/acting in the movie.

"Laos"? Far from it. Having finished Ragtime and the American Songbook concerts, she's set for the 4 Stars: One World of Broadway Musicals tour in Japan with fellow Broadway stars Ramin and SIerra (Phantom of the Opera) and Japanese actor-singer Yu Shirota. Many Pinoys haven't heard of them because cloistered areas of music like musical theater are (sadly) unpopular in the Phils. In musical theater, however, Lea remains a shining star. She can't and should't be compared to "mainstream" artists.

I agree with Leah, Lip-synching isn't entertaining cause I could listen to that singers album and hear the same thing. When its real voice, it shows talent, it shows the truth basically. People don't understand the talent that it takes to be able to dance, and sing, and act, pretty much all at the same time. It does take talent. That's why most music today stinks, because it doesn't show peoples real abilities, its almost all computerized and show singing is all real.

She is an amazing performer, but her accent changes so much ! She had a posh english accent during her early interviews in England. In America she has a strong american accent. In the Philippines she uses more of a local accent and mixes in tagalog ?! The interview is in English, why does she want to mix in Tagalog ? I'm guessing she just wants the audience to relate to her more.
After Manny Pacquiao is she the most famous person from the Philippines ?

Martin is a very good host... it would be nice to bring him back with a new show..... Nowadays it seems like all we see on ABS CBN is Vice Ganda. Dont get me wrong, i like Vice Ganda... i think he's very witty but its like eating adobo everyday for a a year.... You got to have a different flavor... a different dish to make things interesting.

Well a singer should know how to be able to know how to look after their voices. If they do a live concert, they should know how to handle themselves. Stop defending mediocrity.

Shame on those who bash Lea Salonga because of this. Are you freaking kidding me? She's true to what she says. She's very honest and she lets us hear her voice and she has good points. Unlike those people who sugarcoat their opinion just to protect their image. And she's LEA SALONGA. If you think she's just a singer, do some research, pal. Coz she's the best of the best in Broadway and she's a Disney legend. Ad there's more to that in her. We need more people who are as open minded as she is.

Someone in the Philippines needs to say their opinion and she looks like she can hold her own. Obviously! I'll side with her because of the fact that she has experience to back it up. If you go against her i feel like she would have respect on hearing your side you just have to back it up
