    Loved this episode. When I got diagnosed with PCOS ( insulin resistance) after blood tests and ultrasounds I was never given anymore information on it and was told to lose weight and go on birth control. Thanks for this episode!!! Very informative and helpful

    Thank you for this episode!! I discovered Dr. Gottfried's book a month ago after struggling the past couple years to lose my post-partum baby weight. I am 36 yr old, diagnosed with PCOS in the past and since having my baby i am always fatigued, cant sleep through the night, constant case of candida, and flare up of eczema. Since having a baby, i feel my body is just off. My primary doctor and OB/GYN keeps saying I'm healthy and just need to exercise and eat well...which i am doing and no results. i finally had them order a hormone panel test but they never follow up with information of the results. Now i am hoping following the protocols in Dr. Gottfried's book will help getting my hormones under control and loss the baby weight.

    I wish it could have been more known when I was trying. I'm 40 now, and I got my PCOS diagnosis at 28. I saw a dietician, acupunturist...I took vitex and chromium piccolinate with no results. After a few years of not reclaiming a period still, I tried to go all in medically and was put on the highest dose of metformin and then added clomid. Horrific side effects and even burst an ovarian cyst with the clomid. I'm so happy all of this is more talked about now. I was digging through forums to find info about things like vitex. Now we have awesome people like Mari giving us specialists with the deets. Stay patient ladies, I know it's a battle.

    • @ouo7343
      @ouo7343 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cocowhite588 The pathophysiology of PMDD is differential and overall not understood, so treatment mostly has to do with symptom management as opposed to root causes. For me personally, a 4 month cycle of birth control actually helped loads - it regulated my period which had been abnormal for 10+ years, which for me made all the difference as I could actually predict my luteal crashes.
      PMDD is largely thought to be the result of hypersensitivity to changes in progesterone, the result of which have been likened to opioid withdrawals due to GABAergic effects. Again for me personally, I mitigated this effect using plant medicine with opioid like properties. This has drastically improved my symptoms.

      I've been dealing with this as well. I think moderate protein, like 0.8g/lb, carbs around 60-80g or however much keeps blood glucose around 85mg/dl with spikes less than 15mg/dl, and fats less than 30g works best. Adjust according to activity level, and increase carb and protein intake before a workout, so you're in a calorie surplus to blunt the cortisol response which plays a major role in PCOS related weight gain.

    I was diagnose with PCOS and have learned that your microbiome has an effect on your hormones. I say this bc I went to an electrologist for months until 99% of the facial hair was gone. Now I have about 3 hairs left. One that is coarse and I would just tweeze it every week. Then I started taking probiotics earlier this year and that one coarse hair did not grow back. Then if I stopped taking the probiotics, it would again start to grow. Amazing, I thought. I told my doctor who has been awarded best doctor of the city many times, but he told me probiotics have nothing to do with my hormones. Good thing I do not believe him. Ladies, there is hope. Also, it was not easy but I do have 2 daughters. I got pregnant after I ran a marathon. Your physical activity and nutrition matter.

I had discovered shatavari which is an herb similar to chaste tree. I started taking it and got pregnant within that first month. A couple years later, I had mentioned it to a friend who struggled getting pregnant for 10 years and had her first through IVF. After her first she wanted to try again to have another child but what hoping to do it naturally. Keeping your total carbohydrate intake below 20 grams per day doesn't "just cure" PCOS.
    Keeping your total carbohydrate intake below 20 grams per day reverses your chronic hyperglycemia - it puts your blood sugar control on autopilot and keeps your blood sugar levels normal and steady for long periods of time.
    This results in the reversal of three big health problems:
    1) Chronic Elevated Systemic Glycation
    2) Chronic hyperinsulinemia.
    3) Chronic inflammation.
    Once these three conditions are resolved, it's just a matter of giving your body enough time to replace all the damaged cells in your reproductive system.

    • @narmingasanova5207
      @narmingasanova5207 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      For how long would you say one needs to be on low-carb diet (below 20 grams) to see positive results?

    • @Hertz2laugh
      @Hertz2laugh 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@narmingasanova5207 If you are looking only for "positive results", about four to six weeks.
      Your body will take about two or three weeks to adjust to the new way of eating and to detox from all the excess sugar so it will be difficult to identify positive changes.
      For example, you will get headaches, low energy, and incredibly strong cravings during the first two or three weeks, because your body is detoxifying from sugar.
      Technically, detoxifying from sugar is a positive result, but to you, it will feel miserable.
      But after the first three or four weeks, you will then start to see rapid improvements in all sorts of areas.
      For example, you will probably lose 10 to 15 pounds (7kg) in the first six weeks. Most of the weight loss will come from your body finally releasing excess water. You will probably notice that your skin is more firm and that you are less puffy.
      Another example of a positive result you will probably see within the first three or four weeks is that of your digestion. You will notice that you no longer become gassy or bloated after eating a meal.And your digestion will only get better and better the longer you remain on the diet.
      If you are diligent to stay under the 20 gram carbohydrate limit, you can expect to lose about 6 pounds (3kg) of fat per month. (If you are already fairly thin, you will not see this dramatic of a result.)
      If you are diligent to remain on the diet, you can expect to see regular menstrual cycles return in about three months.
      These are just a few of the positive results you can expect to see if you keep your carbohydrates under 20 grams per day.
      ⚠️⚠️ CAUTION ⚠️⚠️
      Please keep in mind that this diet will have very powerful positive effects on your blood sugar levels, hormones, and blood pressure.
      This means you need to be paying attention if you are taking medications that affect these things.
      For example, you might put yourself into dangerously low levels of blood sugar if you combined this diet with high doses of blood sugar reducing medication.
      Also, if you are taking hormone-based birth control or other medications that alter your hormones, it might disrupt the effectiveness of the diet.
      I hope my response has been helpful.
      Please feel free to ask any other questions you might have or tell me things you might be concerned about related to the diet.

      Does this include like low fruit consumption too?

    • @Hertz2laugh
      @Hertz2laugh 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@allisonbartlett6163 Yes; fruit is mostly sugars with fiber.
      And some people will point out the fact that certain fruits have a "low glycemic index" -> it doesn't raise your blood sugar that much.
      This is true.
      But what they are not telling you is that the kind of sugar in fruit (fructose sugar) bypasses the blood and goes straight to your liver and contributes to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
      Count all carbohydrates as the same.
      Aim to stay under 50g if you want to maintain the health you have.
      If you want to improve your health and heal, you need to reduce the total carbohydrates even more.
      The more you reduce your dietary carbohydrate intake, the faster and more intensely you will heal.
      I am happy to explain more or answer questions or address concerns.

    • @Hertz2laugh
      @Hertz2laugh 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@narmingasanova5207 Forgive me for this very delayed response. I don't know why TH-cam just notified me of your comment here.
      You will see results by the end of one month.
      You will see MAJOR results by the end of three months.
      If you are diligent to stay strict for one year, you can see most, if not all of your PCOS symptoms reversed.

    Agree with everything here except the HRV part. It’s well known that there isn’t really a given value that is optimal for HRV (i.e., higher isnt always better!). Some people have higher HRVs naturally, and some lower. It’s the deviation from ones baseline that is what’s meaningful. I have a high VO2 max, very fit cardiovascularly, don’t drink, and my HRV is just lower naturally 🤷‍♀️

    So interesting. An extreme but people are talking about curing PCOS through gastric bypass surgery. What are her thoughts?

    • @napua5217
      @napua5217 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Gastric bypass reduces the amount of food you eat, which in turn lowers carbohydrate intake, leading to decreased insulin levels and improved PCOS symptoms. However, it also comes with its own set of potential complications. Instead, I highly recommend prioritizing protein, not fearing healthy fats, and choosing carbohydrates from whole, unprocessed sources like fruits and vegetables. When you do this, it can have a tremendous impact on managing PCOS naturally!

      I’ve heard that if you have a very regular period (28 days), it can produce great results. It’s not for people who have irregular cycles. The theory behind cycle syncing is that you’re supposed to have a 28 day cycle and a lot of women actually don’t. They fluctuate naturally (28-35 days).
