Jon McKellan gave Alien: Isolation its perfect retro style aesthetic. He then went on to make Stories Untold and Observation. All excellent sci-fi/horror games that sometimes best the film counterparts. I like where this guy is heading. Eagerly anticipate his next project.
Got home from work to check out the reviews of Observation and predictably the first review that pops up is Karak's at ACG. Consistently reliable. Never let's us down. Great work and as always, really appreciated.

I love that intro sequence. The music sounds a lot like Lorn, with that kind of dark screaming synth. The game looks really interesting, 2001 is one of my favorite films so I might have to check it out!
Loved the part of "laptops in the floor, the floor and the other two floors" Sounds like my place when my 3 year uses all the floors to store things, hahaha. Keep up the amazing work.
Observation on the PS4 has some moments of stuttering at some places but all together, it’s a flawlessly mind blowing experiencing that has a ton of replay value.
Playing on ps4 and I'm loving it, but I'm a huge space/sci-fi fan. The controls def aren't the greatest, takes some time getting used to. But the story makes up for it imo.
Very weird lol. I think I (kind of) understood it? Might have to replay again haha. But I did enjoy the game, once I got used to moving in zero gravity.
The explanation from wikipedia: Emma tells a confused SAM that there must have been multiple realities all converging on this point, and they were the first version of Emma and SAM to make it through the ordeal. They disappear briefly into the hexagonal entity. When they wake up, Emma and SAM find their consciousness has merged, and they are back on Earth by some means. They feel odd but alive, and by touching the ground, they are able to infect it the same way the entity did to Observation. The same noises from the entity tell the combined Emma/SAM persona to "bring them".
Observation definitely has some good elements to it. Visually, it looks pretty good (in particular the PC version). The setting is worth exploring. I also like the atmosphere and feel of the game. Of course, $25 is a reasonable price for the experience that you are getting in return. However, at the same time, Observation could've offered a bit more in terms of gameplay. With that aside, thanks once again Karak for another great review. I really appreciated the continued hard work. Keep it up!
I just finished it, and enjoyed it a lot (at about $12). Satisfied a sci-fi fix I was going for. I'd call it a cinematic walking sim, since the puzzles were technically really easy, even if still potentially frustrating at times. The frustration added a bit to a sort of immersion I felt, given the scenario, although I _do_ honestly wish the "repeat" function could also help a little bit, at least as an option or something. I'm sure some people will be more put off by the frustrating times than I was.
Might grab this now. Told myself I would as long as it wasn’t a buggy mess or 10 minutes long, and it isn’t either of those. Thanks for the great review as always man!
Your reviews are great, as always. One thing I'd like to point out is the thing you said about the laptops. Well... go on google maps and take a tour of ISS and you'll see that the game actually reduces the number of laptops on board. It's insane just how many thinkpads they have up in the station. Definitely up to 30 or 40 (for 6 people!).
This setting is incredibly compelling to me and I’d love to see more of it. And you various gameplay styles, just look at CoD:Ghost’s opening or Echo Night Beyond.
I love how ACG's reviews are always on point when it comes to helping you decide whether or not the game is for you. "requires some spider-thumbing" -->o.k so NOT for me.
It is literally 30 seconds throughout the entire game you have to do it. Not to mention there is no movement or coordination involved. Literally “hold down X” “now hold down Triangle”. Done.
Finished this last night and rewatched the review. You nailed it. I agree with every single point you made... creepy almost. Guess i should grow out my beard.
