I went to an all-boys Catholic high school where we wore ties every day, For years, I wore ties every day at work. I love ties (I've got about a hundred). These days, my favorites are solid color silk knit ties which go with any shirt I wear - solids, stripes, or checks.
You guys and this channel are so enjoyable to watch, just the right amount of humor to go with the information. I'm a lifelong mechanic and never have had to "dress up," but if things were different, you are the place I would go. Thanks for your time and work......
I love ties, it is far to easy to end up with dozens of them. Funny but one of my favourite ties is a bright blue with a pattern wedding style tie, I don't care if people think I have just come form a wedding I like it. Thank you for all the hard work you guys put into your videos it really shows.
Last fall I decided that I needed a knit tie. I happened to have a shirt which was off white but had a checked pattern in brown, tan, navy, and dark red. This combination works very well with a brown corduroy vest and a brown tweed sport coat, and tan corduroy trousers. I think it's a great fall outfit. Now to find a nice pocket square to go with the jacket.
Regarding the association ties at 17:19 they are still very common in the UK. I tend to see more regimental ties than club ties where I live in Scotland, the most common in my area being Black Watch. You will see ex military men, often older, wearing their blazers, grey trousers and regimental ties marching on Remembrance Sunday. Any time my grandfather got dressed up, he didn't really wear suits - each Sunday for church or a dinner or event or whatever, he wore his blazer, grey trousers, black shoes and regimental tie.

I was fortunate enough to have had a grandpa with a tie collecting hobby, when he passed he gave me his ties. I now have over 35 ties, about 10 of which are looney tunes ties, these ties are my favorite to look at because they are both goofey and remind me of him.

I think the tie should be in the iconic bottle green of Fort Belvedere and right beneath the knot could be the Ft. Belvedere logo. The rest could have stripes in ivory or a pale yellow similar to a repp stripe tie.

I love those stripped grenadine ties from Fort Belvedere like the one Preston is wearing. They're incredibly beautiful and designed exactly right like many of their other ties. It's not something I can get myself right now, but maybe one day.
Each military medal hangs from a ribbon with a Repp-type pattern. A company called Ties of Honor sells its large collection that replicates the ribbons into ties. I personally wear one that celebrates the USAF Air Medal that I was awarded a half-century ago over the skies of Southeast Asia.
A Gentleman's Gazette tie you should make it similar to Fort Belvedere colours. A British racing green colour with like silver/light grey stripes and a little GG with channel icon at the bottom or something would look mint.

For whatever reason I balk at any rough knit ties or any kind. I am considering a Navy Grenadine due to all the recommendations on the net, but it has to be "fina" for me to even consider buying it. Edit - as I review my ties from over 15-20 years ago, all handmade 100% silk in conservative patterns, it appears that any kind of sheen seems to out of fashion in favor of muted weaves.

This may be a "dumb" question, but where do tie patterns come from? Tie patterns intrigue me because they are so various and seemingly random. I've never seen two of the same tie patterns, not speaking of popular weaves, so they're kind of like works of art.
Not a dumb question at all! When talking about irregular tie patterns (i.e. not stripes), the designs can come from pretty much anywhere. If it can be thought of, you can put it on a tie!

It may have more to do with the articles of clothing that are actually available in those colors. You may be able to find a plumb/aubergine colored suit or jacket that doesn't make you look like The Joker, but they are certainly less common than other colors. A pastel yellow jacket is certainly in the cards for spring/summer if you're of a bold nature. But wearing it with a purple tie may make it look like you're attending an Easter egg hunt. Of course, shades of tan, straw and mustard are in the yellow family and could certainly pair with purples like plumb, lilac or violet. I'm sure that those with a better eye than me can find a combination that suits them well, and I salute anyone who can pull it off.
In the beginning they used pink for both genders but as always it doesn't stay the same. I think I read it somewhere you can research it. I'm female and your selection is spot on. Don't laundry your ties use a dry cleaner I know they're expensive but do you really want a warped tie
I actually prefer a thin tie, and I don't mean narrow, but "not bulky." To me, too many 100% silk ties seem to feel as if they are bunched up around my collar. I have found that I prefer a wool/silk, or linen/silk blend. I also don't mind that the texture reflects less light giving it a more casual appearance. I don't wear a tie for business anyway.

A bunch, but few long enough. I have a large neck and a long torso. All of my normal ties look like bolo ties on me. I have a handful of extra long ties that come close to fitting.
Most times I do not need a "formal" tie, I need an elegant and outstanding tie. Many of my ties are Italian silk ones with an unusual elegant pattern, such as Pancaldi, Leonard, etc. Unlike many or most of the ties on this page, all of mine always get an enthusiastic compliment from the women who see it.

Well, in the 80s, the red Power Tie was supplanted a bit by the yellow ones that became ubiquitous, but yellow can still work as a fun nautical highlight.
Ties are extremely unprofessional. They’re a strong indication of idiocy considering how easy it is to be choked out while wearing one. When I interview men for my company, the ones wearing ties are the first to be crossed off. Demonstrates to me a lack of street smarts. Lack of wisdom. Shows me they are good at wasting money, too. Can’t have any of this nonsense.

When listing colours that compliment yellow, why did you omit purple which is its direct compliment? Is purple/yellow too un-masculine or something..?
