  • There are a lot of things that don't make sense to us. The 2024 Mazda CX 30 is one of them. How can a vehicle that looks so nice and be so powerful be priced so well? Not only that, it is actually fun to drive! Well, this week on Hood Slappers, Jared and Colleen take a look at the 2024 Mazda CX 30 and find out how Mazda did it. There were a few changes for Mazda's 2024, and in this review you will find out what those changes were, but also get a pricing breakdown, feature breakdown, and be given a real and practical rear seat test. There is no messing about here.
Mazda brings a level of luxury to their lineup that nobody else does. Remember, Mazda doesn't have a luxury division, so they are more generous with their features, materials and styling quirks. In the Mazda CX 30 GT that we review here, we give it a good test drive to see if the hype is real.
So come join us this week as we review the 2024 Mazda CX 30 and see if we can make sense of it.
*Thanks to Forbes Waterloo Mazda for letting us review this 2024 Mazda CX 30*

I bought the Mazda base model CX-30 S 2.5 AWD Engine, cloth upholstery bare to the bone model without all the bell and whistles, like a turbo engine, heated seats, remote controlled liftgate, leather trimmings, moonroof, and all the extra comfort trimmings that can add to $36,000. I paid $24,900 for a base model. I have no regrets whatsoever!!
I test drive the cx-5 and the cx-30, and frankly they both drive the same. The driving dynamics, excellent handling on turns and curves, city traffic maneuverability, comfort, and drive on both models are practically the same; except the gas mileage and price, which the cx-30 excels over the cx-5. Yes, the cx-5 is much roomier, but not by much. I am a tall medium build guy, but I still feel very comfortable in the cx-30 cabin. The cx-5 while definitely more spacious, it is at least $5000 more then the cx-30. I am loving my cx-30 more and more each day; it is a very comfortable, safe, and fun car to drive, and a great value overall!!

And the CX-30 has better Breaks than the CX-5. You can stop it from 100-0km/h in 33,9m!!!!! I know it because these Breaks saved my Life on January 26 when i met a Ghostrider on the Street!!!!

After owning and driving sedans for 29 years, I had a change of heart for SUVs and bought a 2023 CX-30 Turbo Premium last week. Buying my new Mazda was NOT a mistake at all. It has more than plenty of "get up and move" acceleration and is more comfortable for road tripping than the small and mid-size cars I used to own. The cramped back seat space doesn't bother me at all. I'm single with no spouse nor children, so it works great for me.

Haha. Love the wit in this video! My wife and I are a young couple (with no kids yet) who are involved in a lot of outdoor activities. We hike, bike, camp and take day trips. We were looking for second vehicle to replace a Ford Explorer that we gave to a relative. We did a lot of research. I was initially looking at a Toyota, Honda, Subaru or even Ford. I also considered some entry-level luxury brands. However, the Mazda was a better value in terms of what came standard even at the lower trims. Our trim came with soooo much in terms of engine power, safety features/ratings, AWD along with some surprising premium features.
However, the most interesting factor came in speaking with other vehicle owners. I didn't really hear people complain much about Honda or Toyota (apart from the Corolla Cross's and CHR's lack of horsepower). Subaru owners were highly enthusiastic about being highly enthusiastic. However, I noticed that Mazda owners of the CX-30 were highly enthusiastic for the vehicle that they purchased. Even when I considered vehicles on Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, etc., Mazda owners just buzzed about how much they LOVED their purchase. So, given the higher horsepower/torque, standard features (such as the sound, safety, interiors, etc.), no CVT, etc., it just felt like a good value.
So, I took the plunge and ordered a 2023 CX-30 -- in Platinum Quartz Metallic -- earlier this year. When I finally got it (in the Silicon Valley in Northern California), I was surprised. It was the first time that I actually sat in one. I admit that there was a size adjustment (having used a Ford Explorer). We have been so impressed! I have been happy with my purchase every time I've driven it. This vehicle is great in the mountains, rain, snow, dirt, off-road camping, etc. It's not a large SUV. In fact, I would argue that it is more crossover than SUV. It's fun to drive and just looks great (and elicits plenty of compliments). I feel the premium value every time I drive it.

    • @HoodSlappersOfficial
      @HoodSlappersOfficial  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Holy Moly! You went from an Explorer to a CX-30?!? Well we understand the size adjustment then.
Thank you for sharing your experience. We always enjoy hearing from viewers with their own personal experiences. This is great stuff.
Mazda did a fantastic job on the CX 30. Everything you said is right on the money. You didn’t have to purchase a luxury vehicle to feel the quality. It is actually fun to drive other than many other small SUVs. I bet you are enjoying the change in the amount of fuel you are paying too. :)
All in all, you made a great choice. Keep enjoying it. Have a Happy New Year.

Good Cx-30 review, I agree with you guys.
Pros: Mind boggling bang for the buck value (power, interior, steering feel, base AWD and 2.5 liter engine). Best value in the segment by a mile.
Cons: What blind spots? Basically a Mazda 3 interior so kinda cramped.
Almost feeling like Mazdas losing money on these to get bigger market share, and its working! Compare it to Corolla Cross, Crosstrek, HRV, etc, it's so much better.

My friend just bought the 3 row Mazda and that thing is nice! The interior of this vehicle looks like a smaller version of the same thing, which is a very good thing. Mazda has started to get it's poop in a group now that they are divorced from Ford. The size seems to be in a weird space between a compact and a sub-compact vehicle. The rear seat room is really quite sad as you guys illustrated quite well. Red-Headed Brad's observation that it would be for retired people seems about right; a couple that occasionally dives around their grandchildren. Brad though buddy... pineapple and bacon is the greatest pizza known to man, it's only competitor is pepperoni and mushroom.

Pepperoni and Mushroom over Pineapple any day! Thanks for watching Bleatmop. Always great hearing from you mate. You’re spot on, Mazda has turned a new page with their design and it’s being taken quite well.

I have the 2020 GS model which I have owned for about 3.5 yrs now with not a single problem. Same colour as your video. Enjoy the touch free display, takes a bit of getting used to, but far easier to use without taking your eyes off the road and far safer. Enjoy the power of the 2.5L non-turbo engine and 6-speed transmission, get great fuel economy. Purchased this over the Seltos due to the nice interior, engine and transmission. Got the aftermarket hood struts so I don't have to bother with the hood prop, which really annoys me.

Good review and I think this will likely be my next car (non-turbo mid trim though) to replace my current CX-3 (still wish they sold it here in Canada though)
As for the back seat complainers, what do I care, I'd hardly be back there. A kid can fit in there though for young families and people in other countries get by with much less and smaller cars.
Besides, most people drive alone 90%+ of the time.
On the otherhand, as much as I like the CX-30, my heart belongs to the MX-5 Miata 🥰

You guys didn't mention your respective sizes, but you both appear to be bigger than average people, so I would never consider putting you in the back seat. The front two seats are where the comfort is. I view it as a performance crossover, not a utility vehicle. That's why my other car is a Subaru Outback.

I love my 2022 Mazda CX-30 Carbon Edition & it's been a 100% problem/issue free experience now for the almost 2 years that I have owned/driven it. It is borderline criminal though that Mazda didn't also black-out the front/side chrome trim & silver roof rails on this vehicle, since it looks so much better that way considering all that black cladding (I did that to mine & more aftermarket with some black satin vinyl wrapping). I have most of the various tech features turned OFF though on my CX-30 (don't need/want them) & have no desire to connect or use my smartphone with my vehicle (it stays in my pocket while I drive & is ignored). Back-up camera & blind-spot monitoring is about the only useful "tech features" IMO.

Personally, my favorite feature in my 2023 CX-30 is the adaptive radar cruise control. I live and work in the Silicon Valley. We also take road trips nearly every weekend. I've used radar cruise control in other vehicles; however, Mazda's just works so much better than most of them. I've tested it to the point where I didn't break in sudden congestion. It works (i.e., slows and/or brakes) every time. I've even tested it at a sudden brake and it did so (although I was scared to even test it). The lane-keep assist isn't particularly groundbreaking; but, it works as well as the Toyota and Ford (imo). I've read rumors that an update to the lane-keep assist might be coming to even some of the recent year models.

I bought a new 2024 CX30 2.5 S Premium non turbo in Soul Red Crystal on April 1st.
So many things about it that I like and the performance and handling is miles above my previous car which was a 2014 Kia Sportage.
However there are some WTF moments as well with the Mazda. How can you have a really nice beautiful backup camera like the CX30 has and yet there is no beep or warning of any type when you back up? Even my Kia has that and it is a base trim level. Also, the lack of little storage cubbies and other things is a little bit disappointing. The center console while nice is just a big gaping hole and anything you throw in there you will have to dig around to try to find it. I purchased a tray insert that sets in the top and has some divided areas for common things you might want to carry around with you on a day-to-day basis.
Also, I wish the opening where you reach to close the door had a bottom in it instead of it just being an open space. That's another area where you can easily put some stuff in there that you might want to grab quickly like some quarters to pay a toll or some mints or gum or whatever It's just a real handy spot to grab quickly from the driver's seat. So, I also ordered some aftermarket plastic cups that just drop into those openings and give you that little bit of storage space. I realize there is a little flip down storage area on the left side of the dash but that's so small that it's almost like they put it there just as a place to store your keys. Which maybe that is exactly what it was there for.
As far as some of the features, if you're going to put wireless charging into your vehicle you should make sure that it at least works. I have had nothing but problems in the short time I have owned a car with the wireless charging. It constantly overheats. After doing some searching on the internet it would seem that I'm not the only one who has that problem. And it is also something that goes back a few years. So Mazda why haven't you fixed that?

We appreciate the comment and appreciate your viewing. Truthfully there are a lot of features that aren’t needed, but more so wanted. Things like heated seats, touch screens, massaging seats etc. They aren’t for everyone, that’s why automotive brands offer different trim levels.
As for the moon roof being outlawed. Keep in mind, the roll over crash test is the most difficult to pass through the IIHS. A lot of brands can not put in the much wanted panoramic roof because of the strict standards. So, for a vehicle to pass with a pano roof is a huge achievement. The standards aren’t lowered by the testing agency, the vehicles are made stronger by the manufacturer. We would advice looking up safety ratings when purchasing a vehicle.

The initial message of your video was "how is this good car so inexpensive?", well the CX-30l is assembled in Mexico for the North American market with lower costs to counter the strong Yen/weak Dollar exchange, as many manufacturers do to avoid import tariffs. That's all what was meant.
