    The prices will never go down. Military needs to pay soldiers more.Killeen was a dump when I served there.

      Yea it’s really tough right now. And good properties do come at this price point but they sell in one day. I just had to put in 3 offers and go in 5k over the asking price to snag one for $175k. I do think these homes have the most room for appreciation in the future but it’s like the hunger games to get one

      What’s worse is the interest rates might go up again over the next few months. Hopefully that brings prices down but there’s no guarantee how far. Right now, paying the extra out of pocket is the best move.

      Same here. We moved from Savannah GA. Rented out our 2300 sqft house because I knew I wouldn't be able to find something affordable here. BAH for E7 w dependents there was 2100 ish and the home prices are about the same as here. I can't afford to buy a house with my new BAH

    BAH for E7 with dependents at Fort Cavasos (Fort Hood): $1650 per month
    BAH for the same Soldier that’s a recruiter in Georgetown which is one county south: $2,808 per month
    That’s a 70% increase for just living a half hour or so away. Why is there such a huge difference?

      Prices are way higher in Georgetown. It’s one of the fastest growing cities in Texas and then the proximity to Austin is a huge factor. Lots of ppl left Austin to move there. It’s crazy.

      That’s true but some folks are even commuting from Killeen to Round Rock since they can’t afford housing that close to Austin. So would that continue to raise prices in the Killeen area?

      Yup I see it all the time. Yes it’s going to keep raising prices. I think that’s why buying here is still a good idea bc the long term prospects are great for appreciation

    Moving there as an E7 with dependents and trying to buy in Harker Heights. Not happy about paying about a grand a more out of pocket but the house is beautiful. Is Harker Heights a place where people look to rent should i want to keep it as a rental property when I leave in 4 years?

      It’s possible but you’ll be paying out of pocket and it’ll def be a starter home that you’ll need to add value to over time.

      With 15-20% ,yes. With Airbnb, Yes. Buying a duplex with a VA loan , no.

      It’s gotta be fixed! It’s crazy. Prices are coming down a bit right now but if interest rates fall they’ll shoot back up
