    I have had catheters for a number of years. It gets changed every month and the bags weekly. I have worked out for years, I do not run but do walk my dog, ride a spin bike and the best is an indoor rowing machine. I am also able to use resistance bands which work similar to free weights for gaining muscle. None of this is done to extreme levels but works okay with no pain.

      Hi Ralph, You are very fortunate that you can exercise while having a urinary catheter. Good for you!

      I’m really glad to read this. I’m thinking about asking for an indwelling catheter which would be for the rest of my life, but I have to go to the gym in order to maintain mobility. This video worried me and I’m glad to read this comment.

    I use dumbells on a soloflex and it doesn't irritate me.

      Thats great! Towards the end, of my catheter use, I started using bands and only did upper body. Squats and lunges had to wait. Cheers, and wishing you great health. Tony

    How about swimming Tony?

      Hi David, I never went swimming while I had my catheter. If I were self-cathing it probably wouldn't be a problem but with an indwelling catheter, I would be worried about possible infections.

    I can’t imagine trying to exercise with a catheter. Just activities of daily living and daily chores are quite painful and causes enough problems. I’m eager to see your new catheter design. Is it for urethral catheterization only, or can it be used as a suprapubic catheter also?

      The thing I missed while having a catheter.....besides peeing on my own....was just simply functioning day-to-day. It made a difficult situation worse....physically, mentally, and emotionally. The new catheter is urethral only and it comes with new improved leg straps. Just waiting on the patent.
      I should do a video about getting an invention patented.
      Are you currently having to use a urinary catheter? What was your diagnosis and how old are you if you don't mind me asking? It helps with my stats and advocacy. You can always email me if you prefer anonymity.
      Cheers

    Can’t find this anywhere on google so can you tell me how long once a Foley catheter has been put in place before it becomes uncomfortable or can start causing damage to your urethra or bladder neck?

    • @maletenance
      @maletenance  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You probably can't find anything because it depends on the individual and on so many things from biology, physiology, overall health, diagnosis, age, and so on.
      I found it awful from day one, while others find it little more than a mild nuisance. Of course, the longer you have it, the likelihood of damage to the urethra and bladder neck are, along with UTIs.
      However, having to use a catheter to void urine as the only option supersedes the potential damage, as it would seem there are bigger issues to prioritize.
      Cheers Tony

    What about walking

    • @maletenance
      @maletenance  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Walking yes but slower. For me, it caused less pain from the friction of the catheter going in and out if I did things a little more thoughtfully and slowed down. I recently was awarded a utility patent for an improved catheter that allows a range of motion to perform basic activities of daily living with less pain. It's not going to remove all pain, there is still a giant straw in your privates, but it will improve the quality of people's lives who have to use a catheter and allow some normalcy. May I ask what led to your catheter use?
