@@sablatnic8030 I hint the fact all britpop was recorded pretty the same equipment Rutles used in 70s and was pretty similar way the 60s nostalgia like The Rutles.
My thoughts on this are - if he could do this, yes he is quite good. it might as well have been the Beatles songs for all I know (and I'm a professional musician). And if this is so, why then is the Beatles touted as so singularily genius if a comedian could make something just as good?
I swear I love some of the Rutles songs as much as the Beatles’ and I was born in 1960 in Merseyside, one of my earliest memories (aged three) was dancing in front of the telly to the Fab Four.
Yeah I read that too. And him and Yoko got a huge kick out of her being portrayed as Hitlers daughter. On the other hand I heard Paul hated it, but Paul has always been a dick.
Neil Innes is an excellent musician. He was the lead guitarist for the Bonzo Dog Do-Dah Band. I read where the only Beatle to have not liked the Rutles was the greedy, condescending pompous ass himself, Sir Paul.
Georgie Thumbs Did John and George also play jazz? Did they ever compose a symphony? The Bard of Liverpool only made one mistake: marrying a gold digger. Ask his only true rival not the bloody Rutles and certainly not Mick who was the greatest musician of his day. The student of the harmony of the four freshman, Brian Wilson, will tell you Sir Paul towered above any composer of his generation.
The Rutles did not parody the Beatles. The Beatles ripped off the Rutles wholesale and stole every song the Rutles wrote: every member:Don Lennon, Gorge Harrison, Saul McCartney, and Bingo Starr.
Αctually all the Rutles songs sound like songs that the Beatles forgot to write and play ! And they are all really great ! I love the Rutles because I love the Beatles !
I teach my guitar students this song as it contains so many Beatle cliches. I'm particularly fond of the whiny "Anytime..." over the Cmajor 7 to the Fmajor 7 change in the bridge.
The whole bridge of the song is utterly (Beatlesy) brilliant, IMHO. Neil I. was TOTALLY the right guy to pull this off, musically (likely goes w/o saying that I'm a huge fan of the Bonzo Dog Band -- lol).
Beatles was actually much more industrial and rough sounding. This song is much more like 60s nostalgia from later decades, more polished, melodical and simpler.
The jangly guitar sounds more like The Byrds at times, you hear the same kind of thing in a lot of britpop era stuff, it sounds slightly more polished and modern than early Beatles
The song was released as a single to coincide with the first tv showing of the mockumentary in 1978. It peaked at 39 on the UK chart and I do remember it getting airplay on Capital Radio in London. Those of us who were at college thought it was brilliant!
Neil Innes and Eric Idle are very accomplished musicians and songwriters in their own right. Some of the Rules songs even made it onto a rarities and B-sides Beatles compilation by accident. The Rutles song 'Get Up and Go' was so close to 'Get Back' that Lennon warned Neil that he'd better not include it on the soundtrack album as the Beatles Publishing Company might sue...even tho that Beatles were huge fans of Rutles and didn't mind at all. Bloody lawyers!!!
I believe that Eric Idle was hosting SNL in early Spring, '77, when, during that episode, this video played, and my reality was sundered... Almost exactly a year later, NBC ran a documentary about this band called, I believe, "All You Need Is Cash," which contained this video, and so much more, and I went to my next door neighbor and got her to come over and watch it with me, just so I could be sure I wasn't imagining it. The next day I went to a record store to see if the special had a soundtrack LP, and it did, and I still have it. This tune bears the same relationship (2nd theme song) to "A Hard Day's Rut" that "Ticket to Ride" has to "Help."
Perfect jangly Rickenbacker 12-string tone - tick. Insistent and relentless tambourine - tick. Harmony aaaahs on cue - tick. Ringo Ticket To Ride-esque fill - tick. Angular guitar poses - tick. Fire escape nonsense - tick. I could go on. So perfect.
Even if what they did was a parody to the Beatles.. I must admit that I love their adaptation of the Beatles sound... They were also a great band... Pure 60's Sound
Paul did not sue (he and Neil Innes go 'way back actually - he produced a song for the Bonzo Dog Band). It was the company that owned the rights to the McCartney/Lennon oeuvre that demanded the rights. The Rutles songs from the movie (even the Harrisonesque ones!) are now credited as "Lennon/McCartney/Innes".
They were a huge influence on The Beatles.
+Gary Johnson (GJSolo). Very good!
Yeah
Haha great stuff :-)
Who are the Beatles?
The Beatles are a conspiracy.
This is a masterpiece. If The Beatles released this early on, it would have been considered one of their best songs.
RIP Neil Innes (1944-2019).
Omg I only just found out what a lovely talented man he was x
This is exactly like the Beatles songs of that era. It would have been a number 1 hit.
Er, not. It remainds a lot the 90s brit pop stuff. Supergrass - Alright is pretty the same,
I maintain that this is one of the best Beatles songs that was never written by Lennon/McCartney.
@@marguskiis7711you’re weird
@@marguskiis7711 No it doesn't since it was recorded mid -70s.

Their first album was recorded in 20 minutes. Their second, took even longer.
Legend has it is isn¨t even finished yet
Parodies usually take more work than the original.
It's a mystery to do this day as to how the album wound up being 28 minutes long.
A terrific song. Neil Innes was mighty clever to create these songs.
May he rest in peace …..
Sheer genius.
And in like 2 weeks time or something like that, what a guy
Let's hope they can find an old demo and make a completely new song out of it - How And When? 😂

Rest in peace Neil, the ultimate Rutle. He was a genius!
He also narrated and wrote music for the Raggy Dolls
They was so much better that the Tumbling Rocks or The What
What about The Curls? I loved their album "The Curls are the Town Square Restoration Association."
Also fredrick burton and the humans
@si james how about the American bands clarence coldwater reheated aka C.C.R and the floors?
Also the windows
Also the pool kids
Innis is perhaps THE greatest musical mimic ever. Brilliant.
It's a fab song.
I think it's more of a prefab song.
I swear I love some of the Rutles songs as much as the Beatles’ and I was born in 1960 in Merseyside, one of my earliest memories (aged three) was dancing in front of the telly to the Fab Four.
Whenever i'm feeling down, this is the cure.
What a shame they couldn't stand the fame and finally broke up; the best band of all time. The Rutles I mean, not that band that sounded like them.
Hahaha
Outstanding! The greatest parody ever and probably the first ever tribute band. Neil Innes was a genius.
R.I.P Neil Innes! I’m so glad I got to grow up laughing to your work. You’ll hold a special place in my heart.
