The Rutles, a hilarious spoof of The Beatles and the brainchild of Monty Python's Eric Idle, made their first appearance in a short film on Saturday Night Live. Audience response was so overwhelming that SNL producer Lorne Michaels decided to go ahead with a full production, All You Need Is Cash, which originally aired on NBC-TV in the spring of 1978 - six years before the more famous "mockumentary" Spinal Tap. The extravaganza starred Idle and Neil Innes (the latter of whom wrote all of the music) and featured special guests Mick Jagger, Ron Wood, Paul Simon, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner, Bill Murray, and even ex-Beatle George Harrison. Follow four mop-topped young Brits whose right choice of trousers (tight) gets them a lifetime recording contract despite their lack of musical ability. Overcoming that, they go on to produce monumental albums like Sgt. Rutter's Only Darts Club Band, along with appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and a concert at Che Stadium, cementing their world domination of pop music. But, as with their Fab Four namesake, artistic differences and various other problems threaten to derail Rutlemania. Don't miss The Rutles' wonderfully warped songs "Hold My Hand," "Love Life," "Ouch!," "Piggy In The Middle," "Cheese And Onions," "Get Up And Go," and many other familiar-sounding tunes. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
"In those early days, there was a fifth Rutle - Leppo, a friend of Nasty's from Art College who mainly used to stand at the back. He couldn't play the guitar, but he knew how to have a good time and in Hamburg, that was more important."
Years before spinal tap and predating the mockumentary style of filmmaking, this is a masterpiece that really needs to be re-released in the cinemas and on DVD...
Haha when he keeps getting faster lmfao Eric Idle is the greatest.
I saw this on TV in March 1978. I bought the soundtrack album 2 months later, still have it. I didn't see the movie again till I bought the DVD in 2005.
I still have my album too.
This is not even a trailer for this immortal gem in cinematography and hilarious Big Bang and grandmother of all mockumentaries. It's only the film's first 4 minutes!
Patsy would probably say: "It's only a model..."
"Sh!"
Get up and go is a great tune 😂
The true sound of rock and roll.
Their first album was made in 20 minutes lol
Their second took *EVEN LONGER*!
hihi hihi hihi are there any bitter abnd stupid fucks after me.
Elton John once made 4 albums in a day.
so funny omg this was the best
20 minutes? How'd they do that when the album is 38 minutes long? Did they record it at 78 rpm with their little Chipmunk voices, and then slowed it down when they pressed it? I am confused by your comment.
Rut in Peace Neil Innes 😞
I have never seen this behemoth in full... I need to correct that.
Neil Innes was a genius matching the sounds and style of the prefab four to the, er, well that other mop-haired quartet, The Beadles. John, Jarge, Powell and Rhino.
Face the music! The Rutles ARE a national treasure!
This was beyond clever it was genius 👏 🙌 😅
Saw this spring of '78
Idle being an IDOL!
I loved this movie!
I want this in dvd!
This was a ROAST. Savage!
Greatest parody ever!
I work at a used record store and I always see that Rutles record around, I always mistake it for a Beatles record at first because they copied them so well haha. I never knew that was Eric Idle lol. I guess I never looked close enough.
Everybody is talking about how they lasted 20 minutes doing their first album, but no one is talking about how they lasted also 20 minutes doing berries fields forever
A legend that will last a lunchtime!
We ❤ the
Fantabulous Four!
I know they are only mimicking the Beatles, but damn are they good
LOVES IT.... SO MUCH !
4/2021. Thank you. ( ;
Havent seen this in years
Best movie ever
Back when parody was gold
2:03 is the best part
I lose it when he starts running 😂😂😂
Who made the '60s what they are today ... What a great line that is almost missed.
Rutles kick ass!
yes
When I saw John Lennon and Nazi Ono I lost it...
😂… I forgot about that part.
3:11 Ha! Did the dummy and his ventriloquist also get an MBE?
I wish they remastered the film
I heard they had broken up. Apparently, these days Stig works as a tame racing car driver for some insignificant motoring programme.😥
C'mon everyone- how about getting the Rutles into the RRHOF? RIP Neil.
How dare you so SOIL Lennon's memory with Ron NASTY?!?! You BASTARD!!!!!
@@AZDC99 Who tf is Lennon? I only know Ron Nasty
@@AZDC99 John woulda loved it.
They should be in RRHOF ! They are most probably better than most of the crap 'filler' artists who get into the RRHOF !!!
In love ohhhhh IMust be in Luv!
Son los beatles de otra realidad alterna
¡En serio!
British humor/humour 🇬🇧 is the best.🤩🤩🤩🤩✌️😃🕯️ Love Always, from the US, 🇺🇸 AKA: The States
I remember first seeing something like this on SNL and thinking, "This is a joke, right?"
yes, yes it is
What are your favourite songs from Stig and Barry's solo career?
"Five foot two, knows kung fu...!"
This is too complicated for people today.
And we worried that George only had crisps for a snack!
When it was still funny to use the name Mountbatten in a comedy sketch... British comedy is legendary. The Rutles should write "Back in the EU".
"Back in the EU, and we still can't fight this flu..."
UPC MOMENT
dude lets be natural is an awesome tune!
clark the shark is a rutles fan
not a trailer
*[ they were only in it for the money ]*
:-O Merseyside Vans? Merseyside didn't exist in the 1960s, is there a possibility that this is all fake!? (and Neil Innes was a freakin genius)
3:22 Bianca Jagger
Harrison as a South Asian, lol
RUT 1
3:16 That seems about right.
Was that the real Queen of England?
@Ad Max Well, I didn't vote for her.
Undoubtedly
She's an impersonator of the Queen. She is called Jeanette Charles.
@@robertlindo8058 well, she nailed it
Noel Gallagher sent me here 😁
Bigger than Rod.
The Beatles totally ripped them off! 🤫😉
lol ... "John"s bride in Nazi armband! (3:16)
Are they parodying a certain band or something?
When parody overtakes the original, you know the world has problems (or not)
Get off my foot ! girl .
made the car go faster - probably an after thought .
The after life of post -fab
“A simple German girl, whose father invented WW2”
