I love how absolutely _done_ Odysseus is in this saga. Man sees his rival after a decade. The guy starts screaming at him, shaking the very ocean beneath his feet, and his response is, “Look, man. It’s been like 10 years. This is getting old. Go home. Get a hobby. Maybe pick up needlepoint or something.”
I love how instead of our usual polites reminder (Greet the world with open arms) he switches to “You can relax my friend” basically telling Ody that it’s okay to let go now, same thing with “look at all we lost and all we found” and “waiting,” they’re telling him it’s okay and AUGH
And maybe considering that he's gonna ba a monster after this,... It's why they want him to let go... As the only way forward is not be himself anymore...
What always got me in Get in the Water was when Poseidon says "I'll take your son and gouge his eyes!" he was really saying "I'm going to do to your kid what you did to my kid!"
Fun fact, charybdis is in 5/4 time, which is very unusual. Jorge chose to do this to make Charybdis's music unique without giving her an instrument. And 5/4 threw off Jorge's balance in a way with writing since it's such an odd time signature, similarly to how charybdis throws off Odysseus's balance
@@zexalplays it is weird but its understandable. I also think having it in its own video will be a little more impactful because he'll probably talk about it more (I know he watches them all back to back but you get what I mean)

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT "GET IN THE WATER": When Ody tries to appeal to Poseidon's humanity to forgive him one last time he attempts to use the trumpet, the ocean god's instrument, along with his mottif, looking to get the Ruthlessness motiff a new meaning, the opossite feeling. "Maybe you could learn to forgive" has the same melody and instrument as "Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves" only higher and softer. This serves to show how the notion of forgiveness is void on Poseidon and as he said "has no mercy left to give".
My favourite detail in Get in the Water is, that as Poseidon is shouting "Ruthlessness is. Mercy upon. Ourselves. DIE!" his voice gets more and more layered to sound like Polyphemus. To the point where when he shouts "DIE!" it's basically 50/50 Poseidon's and Polyphemus' voice.

I stand by the "aren't you tired" bit not being a real plea. He's not appealing to Poseidon's humanity, or at least he's not expecting it to work, he's giving Poseidon one last chance to leave before 600 Strike happens.
I feel like this last desperate chance to try to reason with Poseidon is his last ditch effort to hold onto Polites. Even after all of this, he wants to believe it is somehow possible. But then that version of Ody takes his final breath. His comrades are ready to meet him in the afterlife, his mom is waiting. But the monster says not yet
Narratively, I think Chrybdis's purpose is more to be a sort of fake out for the audience. Everyone's expecting SOMETHING to happen, and then a monster appears and sort of gives the audience that 'ah, yep, there's the other shoe' moment, only for it to be relatively stakes-less ... and then Poseidon appears immediately after
I think part of the point of Charybdis is that nothing happens. Odysseus is so back in his element that a song named after the "monster" he's facing just becomes "Done. Next!"
So in the original story, Circe tells Odysseus of Scylla and Charybdis, as to get to Ithaca he MUST pass them. However, it's too narrow to avoid them both and he has to pick one of them to deal with. She initially tells him both such but then errs on the side of Scylla because while Scylla is for SURE going to take 6 men, with Charybdis it's an all-or-nothing gamble; either they'll make the timing right and everyone survives... or they mess it up and they ALL die. So she suggests to deal with Scylla because you know the toll. Hedging your bets, if you will. Just wanted to let you know~
I don’t know if you noticed but you can hear Polyphemus’s voice underneath Poseidon’s when he begins tweaking and turning into a massive ocean creature
did Mortius not notice Poseidon's face in the water at 9:04 as Odysseus was being pulled away from Ithaca? I always thought that it was a very nice touch. to have the entire water show Poseidon's scary smirking face as Ody is once more snatched away from Ithaca
Thank you for having the same reaction as me to “ten long years” Odysseus, you’re talking to an immortal who is thousands of years old. A decade is like an hour to him.
Not going to lie, I thought G.i.t.W was going to be the series finale and song 40. Like he gets back to the island sneaks on to kill the suitors and reunite with his family...only for Posidion to be a asshole and want to destroy all of Ithaca if he doesn't Get In The Water
My full thought process would of been GiTW being Song 38, and with Ody sacrificing himself for Ithaca but Athena and the other GODs bless Ody and with him and his 600 men (Song 39 600 strikes) finally defeat Posidion, and the final song still being Song 40 Will you fall in love. Ending the saga
Mortius and others I feel like this isn't discussed enough but like in retrospect Eurylochus was dead set that they were never gonna get to make it home while Poseidon was just like: Poseidon: Nah, he's definitely going to get here, why search for him when I know he'll get here eventually. Meaning that his mortal enemy had more faith in Odysseus than his second in command.

So fun fact, it's a little bit hard to hear, but I believe under Poseidon's "Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourself, Die" part, you can actually hear POLYPHEMUS under his voice. Which is just. SO COOL.
The part of the song where all the dead crew and his mother are dragging him down may be a reference to how when the odyssey was written it was believed that posiden was also the god of the underworld as hades didn't properly exist at that point. So it may be possible posiden was using the souls of his dead friends to hurt him more (BTW I could be wrong I'm not a history expert)

Poseidon isn’t going to acknowledge it, but the fun was taken out of it and Odysseus convinced Poseidon to end it quickly without additional causalities instead.
Hello folks, as some of you know Mrs. Japaleño told some time ago what the dead on the No Longer You music were singing, that was too distorted to understand. ALSO THERE IS ONE LAST SPOILER ON THE 6th VERSE. DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANNA KNOW. . . . . . "Siren Song" "Scylla Throat" "Mutiny" "Lighting bolt" "Whirlpool, Poseidon" (Whirlpool being Charybdis) "Kill all the Suitors for love" Now that we know this, we can see that most of predictions of Tiresias came to life. Now with "I see you on the brink of death, I see you draw your final breath" on Get in the Water. Leaving only the last sentence to happen. "I see a man who gets to make it home alive, but it's no longer you." The way I see it Odysseus never fully transformed into the monster, even in his last moments in fear and close to home he still tried to appeal to Poseidon's emotions, to a non-existing humanity in the god. It remembered me of Luck Runs Out: "I still believed in goodness, I still believe that we could be kind." The last os odysseus hope and own humanity. He has yet to give up entirely on his old self until this music. The whole arc of him becoming villainous and monstrous is just heartbreaking.
15:42 Mortius: "It's literally like you die, or ..." Poseidon:"-- your wife and your son will drown " 10/10 way to end your sentence without ending your sentence there
Do remember, although Poseidon is mostly known as the god of the oceans, and Hades the god of the underworld, ruler of all who fall on land, in some of the oldest lore, souls that died at sea fell under a different tasking… one where Poseidon rules their souls for all eternity, causing the waves and tides to ebb and flow and churn via the thousands upon thousands of souls lashed forever to sunken oars, sodden rudders, and watery masts.
Maybe I'm wrong, but everytime I hear that "... I can't" from Poseidon it sounds to me like he was in pain or hurting, like he would like to just let go that anger, but he can't do it. It's not that he doesn't want to, he just can't.
gods i love the end of get in the water, the fact that youre close enough to the end where you could actually believe it is so fun. cant wait to see the reaction!
So i have some theories for these two songs, last one being a spoiler for the next song which im pretty sure youve seen but incase no one else has 1. The reason charybdis is so short is because of what ody says, "id like to hurry up and end this, so if you dont have much to say", unlike his other foes, the cyclops, poseidon, circie. Charybdis is an obstacle who can't speak because it's swallowing water, so it cant really interact with odysseus 2. The reason we hear little wolf in get in the water is because both father and son are confronting their monsters, while Telemachus fights his monster odysseus try to reason with him 3. The reason why poseidon move is called shatter the ocean, is because in greek mythology, the underworld is under the ocean, so poseidon is literally pushing ody into the underworld which is why the trident doesnt stab him, and we then see all the souls pulling him further down and welcoming him Lastly and just incase spolier for the final song, Another one of the prophets futures comes true. "I see you on the brink of death, i see you draw your final breath" but afterwards he says "i see a man who gets to make it home alive, but its no longer you" and in the live stream animatic, odysseus is shown a monstious creature with red eyes
I know I'm too late to add anything to the live chat, but I had to share this somewhere. Last night, I had a dream where I saw a crossbody bag thing in a store, and it had "Warrior of the Mind" on it in a light blue/ sky blue font. So I might have had a prophetic dream about Epic merch
After Ody's plea; when Poseidon reprises the Ruthlessness line, Jorge overlaid Polyphemus. As in; he literally can't let Ody go because he can still hear son is still screaming out in pain.
This is scheduled for just before my bedtime today, which means there's a very low chance I miss it due to either forgetting the time or being distracted by something else. Looking forward to this!

Remember "No Longer You"? "I see you DRAW YOUR FINAL BREATH"
if you listen when posidon starts going god mode, behind his voice backing him up is Polyphemus
I love that Anniflamma invented windsurfing. 🤣
I love that it's a reference to treasure planet ❤
Give Charybdis the respect it deserves
Honestly thought it would just be Charybdis today so that Get in the Water and 600 Strike would be together in one vid.
Mortius, when Odysseus says maybe you could learn how to forgive. The melody to that is ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves
"I see you draw your final breath"
Maybe I'm wrong, but everytime I hear that "... I can't" from Poseidon it sounds to me like he was in pain or hurting, like he would like to just let go that anger, but he can't do it. It's not that he doesn't want to, he just can't.
Yeah I noticed that too
Yup. I think Jay pretty much confirmed that Poseidon is literally incapable to forgive
I noticed too, he sounds like he's regretting having to go on with things.
Then ohhHHH bring it on! I love it too
“Im so covering this song” 😂
10:28 well, uh..
gods i love the end of get in the water, the fact that youre close enough to the end where you could actually believe it is so fun. cant wait to see the reaction!
No, get out of the water!
Nuh uh
NO
@@FlintsForge6931 yuh huh
HOW DARE TH-cam HIDE THIS FROM ME FOR 2 HOURS!!!😣
There’s no one else left to be a casualty, what else could the stakes be.
Oh we are *so* getting in the water with this one, boys.
Prophet: “I see you on the brink of death, I see you take your final breath~”
No 😭 you didn't 💀
So i have some theories for these two songs, last one being a spoiler for the next song which im pretty sure youve seen but incase no one else has
1. The reason charybdis is so short is because of what ody says, "id like to hurry up and end this, so if you dont have much to say", unlike his other foes, the cyclops, poseidon, circie. Charybdis is an obstacle who can't speak because it's swallowing water, so it cant really interact with odysseus
2. The reason we hear little wolf in get in the water is because both father and son are confronting their monsters, while Telemachus fights his monster odysseus try to reason with him
3. The reason why poseidon move is called shatter the ocean, is because in greek mythology, the underworld is under the ocean, so poseidon is literally pushing ody into the underworld which is why the trident doesnt stab him, and we then see all the souls pulling him further down and welcoming him
Lastly and just incase spolier for the final song,
Another one of the prophets futures comes true. "I see you on the brink of death, i see you draw your final breath" but afterwards he says "i see a man who gets to make it home alive, but its no longer you" and in the live stream animatic, odysseus is shown a monstious creature with red eyes
GOD charibdis is such a good song id love to do a cover if I had the time and place
First saga where there isn't an "I'm just a Man" reference.
Well yeah, now he’s the monster
For 600 hundred men the animatic from theearteest is the Best❤❤❤
I know I'm too late to add anything to the live chat, but I had to share this somewhere. Last night, I had a dream where I saw a crossbody bag thing in a store, and it had "Warrior of the Mind" on it in a light blue/ sky blue font. So I might have had a prophetic dream about Epic merch
14:04 I think this is kinda like the “I’m teaching you a valuable lesson” motif 😂
at this point, all it takes for Mortius to take off his headphones is the sound of Polities voice
