Total cost was just under $800, including labor.

One if not the greatest and most reliable engine ever !!!
Ford 300 i6, Buick 3800, Toyota 22R, Toyota 1UZ, and the Mercedes 0M617 diesel have gotta be some of the goats of reliability.
@@MrDrHouse The Chevy 350 and Toyota 1FZ are as well.
@@MrDrHouse Don't forget about the Jeep 4.0L I6. The Toyota 2UZ is also pretty good. They made a 3UZ but I don't have any experience with it.
@@madmatt2024 Oh I forgot the jeep 4.0 lmfao. Those are incredible
Yes hands down the greatest spark ignition engine ever made. Nothing comes close.
Never knew these had split manifolds. Nice sound.
It's not possible to put duals on a straight 6 engine... There's only a single bank of cylinders and one exhaust manifold
@@bigtermtech5188 It is possible to put duals on these 300 I6s because they have split manifolds (two separate manifolds, covering 3 cylinders each) permitting two separate exhaust pipes.
Yeah the efi ones do I don’t think the carbed ones do though
@@Cherokee93 Correct. The carbed ones have a "log" that flows about as well as a dirt filled sock
@@bigtermtech5188 my 1996 4.9 has dual manifolds factory
Love you truck man! Always been a huge fan of that 300 I-6
At idle kimda sounds like a v8 but as soon as you get on it all i hear is vintage Jaguar
Sounds great!
it sounds different than the one thats just single 40 series but its just another pipe and muffler
Yes, this one definitely sounds different than my other truck. I think the true duals are kinda unique and cool on an I6. Also this one has EFI and is 20 years newer.
Sounds like a v8 at idle.
Yeah nah
V6’s sound good while idling but once you rev them they sound funny.
I6 > V6
@@harley_benoitway better torque
Did deleting the cats pop your engine light on? Can you tell if it runs more efficient without the cats?
No, it didn’t. I cut the pipes just after the o2 sensor so it wouldn’t. If you have a 1996 it will though because they have OBD2. The 1995s and older have OBD1. Yes, it most definitely runs more efficiently without them. Freed it up a lot. My cats would always over heat on long road trips and then the truck would get sluggish. Obviously not a problem anymore.
@Harley Benoit Gotcha. I didn't no about the years difference. Appreciate that
@@harley_benoitI had a obd2 Chevy s10 and I hollowed out the cat and no check engine light so if you have a 96 it might not set it off
How is it a true dual if it only has one exhaust manifold
EFI 4.9L engines have factory split manifolds.
No cats ?
Correct
Can you rev it up a little more
Unfortunately not. I sold the truck a couple months ago
@@harley_benoit dang that’s alright did ya get something else after you sold it?
@@Cherokee93 Yes, I got another OBS Ford. 1994 F-150 XLT 4x4 5.8L. Only 133k miles and in great shape
@@harley_benoit nice
How can you have true duals on an inline 6? Not really a thing
Yes it is really a thing. EFI 4.9L engines have split manifolds
So is it just 1 flowmaster with 2 exits or 2 separate flowmasters?
It's 2 separate flowmasters
Did you find any performance advantage to having dual exhaust
Over stock, this set up is definitely way better. So yes but idk if it was due to the duals or just the cat delete
@@harley_benoitwell what type of performance would you say happened? And gas millage did you see any changes?
@@naarvmaan I mean I don’t really have numbers or anything but it just seemed to free it up. Better throttle response and easier to do highway speeds. Gas mileage might have been marginally better but I didn’t really notice anything
@@harley_benoit that’s what’s up man, I have two a 95 and a 89 both 4.9 gonna sell the 95 and keep the 89. I got it for 1.5k with 114k miles, it didn’t start cause it needed an ignition switch. Since I know this engines will last with the kind of millage I have I think it’s probably a good call to add true dual exhaust and maybe an upgraded intake manifold as well.
@@naarvmaan Nice. I had a ‘95 (the one in the video) and I still have a ‘75, both with the 4.9/300. My ‘95 started burning oil around 180k miles but still always ran good as long as I kept it topped off. My ‘75 has been rebuilt once but it still runs like a charm. No oil consumption or anything. They are great motors because of their simplicity (which also makes them horribly inefficient 😂). I think duals are definitely the move on the EFI ones because they are set up so well for it with the split manifold. Idk if intake would gain you anything unless you put a Holly Sniper on it or something like that but probably won’t hurt. Good luck!
How’s it have true duals if it’s an inline engine?
EFI 4.9s have split exhaust manifolds and factory dual pipes until the first cat.
sounds like a civic
Sounds like you are using a y pipe?
Nope. True duals all the way back. No crossover. Factory split manifolds.
Ok I am not doing this to my 96. Sounds horrible.
it really does sound bad, needs an x pipe and a couple glass packs
Hey man just curious your true duel exhaust is that 2 seperate pipes coming straight from the exhaust manifold splitting the 2 exhaust manifolds & then nothing else but pipe & 2 mufflers & tail pipes of course ? I also really like your straight piped 300 with the flowmaster 40 sounds great , i just rebuilt my 1995 f150 300/6 , sooo its tight as a snare drum now & was just looking for some ideas on exhaust options & might just go with the straight pipe 40 series as true duels would be quite a bit more $ as you know no doubt , whats your thoughts on a cold air intake as well ? Or would that even matter after unrestricting thee exhaust aleeady ? Thanks for the vids very insightful 👌
Yes, it is 2 separate pipes all the way back to the exhaust manifolds. As you probably know, the EFI 4.9L came stock with 2 separate manifolds. True duals with no crossover. I am planning to install a cold air intake on my truck. K&N makes a nice one for about $300. I'm not sure how much it will truly help power-wise but it certainly can't hurt.
@@harley_benoit awsome man thanks for the info dude i appreciate it 👈
@@harley_benoitthe stock air box flows the best, since you have an I6 truck it has the scoop that pulls air from behind the grille. Save your money, perhaps get a drop on filter for the stock box
@@krisverde Good to know. Thanks!
