Just a tip, from experience, for anyone wanting an exhaust on these body style 5.4 F-150s, if you cut the muffler out and run 2.5 in from there to a 2.5 in y-pipe it sounds almost the same as the setup in the video and will be less expensive. Never commented on your channel before, but as always great info and content!
So, after watching quite a few of your videos…our son has decided he wants a truck like yours. I found a ‘99 with 95k miles that belonged to an elderly man and after he passed, a neighbor bought it and has owned it for a year. It’s a 2 wheel drive but it’s so clean inside and out. It has the 4.6 all stock. We look forward to more of your videos and we hope to pick his truck up soon when the owner and I can coordinate our work schedules. Keep ‘em coming and keep up the great work.
Sounds like a very good truck. They do last! Mine is a 97 Lariat with almost 300k miles on it. Keep the oil changed and no hotrodding, they are great trucks!!
Nice truck man I love that green my 97 expedition is that same color and I love it. The previous guy had the cats removed and the rest of the stock exhaust is all there and sounds really good. My daughter and I are going to fully restore this truck and I'm giving it to her afterwords. Can't wait. It's been the best truck I've ever had never has let us down and it has over 427,000 miles. Right now has the original 330 2 valve V8 and the rest of the power train is stock no rebuilds yet. Still runs ...good.
Man, I'm glad I found this. Thinking about deleting the downstream cats and throwing on a Dynomax ULTRA FLO WELDED X. Not looking for loud, just a low rumble and better flow.
I have a 2003 F150 5.4 with 414,000 miles. All original and runs great. Im thinking about getting a CHEAP dual exhaust system that has a deeper but more mellow sound. I dont care for the popping sound . This will be the first modification ever made to it. 1 year later, I'm still thinking 🤔 about it and the truck is at 421,000 miles now and all is good.
what’s your budget? i spent right at 400 for mine and just cut the muffler off, straight piped it from there with a y pipe to 5 inch tips. not super loud, but sounds good. lmk and i can send a video if your still thinking
Me again with the same truck 😁 You should do a few more drive by clips. This time when you pull out, after you’re on the cement ease into full throttle when it’s still in first. When it shifts into second it makes some lovely backfire sounds 😁 would love to hear how yours compares to mine
Just bought my 2000 F-150 4wd couple days ago and loving it. Has a cracked manifold so doing headers with straight pipes dualed all the way out soon. Looking forward to the new sound
Tons of set ups for these fords...I've got a 01 5.4 king ranch full crew cab. Removed secondary cats and used one as a muffler and rerouted exhaust to come out in front of the passenger rear tire with a 4x16 thick walled ss tip I made and it sounds pretty good
Great video and good job to whoever did the exhaust work. Tip to whoever is looking at getting an exhaust. Do some research on crossovers(X-H pipes), pipe size, mufflers, and where you want to dump it. This will all have an effect on the soumd. A lot of science to it, and every setup is gonna be A little different
Cutting the cats off will definitely make it louder. I have a obs 9th gen 95 f150 5.0 4r70w. I have Flow-tech long tube headers an true dual 2 1/4 straight pipe exhaust no cats or mufflers with 6inch tips exiting straight out the rear. It's extremely loud it can be heard about 5 miles away without the 6inch tips you'd never know it was straight piped the tips make it echo. I love it my dad hates it I have multiple videos up on my channel if anyone is interested in hearing it.
I’ve been looking for this exact setup with recent video and sound and deff good video. Now I’m planning to follow this setup since the first 2 mufflers I installed weren’t as loud as I was thinking they were going to be.
I bought a 99 5.4 for a work truck here in the sipping and fixed everything on it 2 years ago, love that truck. I did x-pipe after cats and straight pipes from there. I absolutely love the sound. It’s raspier and doesn’t pop. Yours is a little deeper.
Pretty jealous about your exhaust . Local shop by me refused to do it on mine. Said it needed an x or an h pipe otherwise the left bank would run leaner than the right. Mine was a 98 5.4 though.
Try doing true duals no cats nothing put pipe with 2 inch pipe half way and other half at the back tailpipes 1/3/4 inch plus headers. Lol now that’s loud
Here in Texas if you dont have a muffler they wont inspect it...so I went with a 12 inch cherry bomb on my 01 4.6 2v it actually sounds pretty good ..old school cool
My husband has 2000 f150 5.4 he cut the cats off ran full straight into a flowmaster super 10, its loud af pops like crazy i can hear it from the house to town like a 1/12 out
I have the same truck but mine is a 2002 f150 regular cab log box 2wd with the 5.4 v8 she moves I got about 240000 on mine and a bit of rust and I’m thinking on doing exhaust work done on mine but Ill have to see what our regulations are here in Canada
I just picked up a 03 5.4 lariat too! Mine has the good ole ford manifold leak, so i cant do any exhaust work just yet. But hopefully i can fix that and get the exhaust back sounding good.
@@Nate.b6 ayyyyyy.... manifold leak gangggggg.. it's a great truck I think either way. Just replaced a passenger fender, resprayed the grille insert with undercoating....also a bunch of suspension work and enjoying it now:). Put a nice flowmaster on it too but a quiet kind:D
Fct 8306 On Two Wheels mine was actually kept up with an in pretty decent shape overall. Tiny bit of rust, plugs and a couple packs had to be replaced, some suspension work a few thousand miles ago from the previous owner. I dont plan on it lasting for a super long time, so im not entirely sure if i want to break my back fixing the damn manifold lol.
Larry’s looking and sounding sweet! My exhaust setup on my 99 10th gen is Flowmaster super 10 to side exit infront of the rear axle, also have an electric cutout to a straight pipe tip
My current 10th gen 4.6l exhaust setup is longtube headers, catless Y-pipe, 2.5" into a muffler and dual out the back under the bumper. Would like to true dual it when I have the money but I love the sound of it right now. Just hacked together since I blew the cats up and Ive experimented a bit. All 2.5" pipe, 3.5" Tips
This is the same motor from my 2004 excursion, and to start off with the mods I was gonna fully straight pipe it with true duals because the stock one pipe is garbage
Hey friend I have a 2003 Ford F-150 also and wanted to know what brand of wheels are on your truck and what are they called. And what size are they. Your exhaust sounds really good.
I’d like to see a video reviewing the tint. Trying to decide between 5% and the 2.5% for my beater from precut auto tint. Are you happy with it? Is it too dark at night?
It sounds just perfect with 4 cats! My obs Chevy came with 2 cats and it’s got the same exact exhaust set up as yours even the same exhaust tips but it’s very loud with 2 cats. I have a video uploaded on my channel too.
I have 1998 5.4l it was a true dual cat back and I got a ticket and I had to put mufflers on it. Two hours after court I change it to empty glass packs and it’s still loud.
Hey man, I’m building my truck, it’s the same year as this one and I don’t know what will fit. What size tires and rims are on that, and is there any lift or leveling kit on the truck?
Thank you for this great video, its hard to find decent 10th gen ones, especially being thorough on exhaust specifics😁 im in the uk so these trucks are very rare over here, love this sound of Larry, going to get mine "Lainey" done soon 😁👊
I have a 1999 Ford F-150 with the 4.6 and when my cats got stopped up I had 2.5in true duels with 18in glass packs and some 4x18 tip, louder then what you have but not as loud as straights, I'm thinking of doing a glass pack delete tho
Wish my 10th gen was as badass as Larry 😂 hopefully one day itl be almost as cool, just cut the muffler off and about to put new tires on it looking to fix the tie rods and put a leveling kit on it
Hello, I have a few questions for the public. 1. If you add an X pipe to this setup (true duals with 4 cats) would the idle be louder? 2. If you remove the rear cats and run true duals, would you lose any power? 3. If you remove all cats and add 2 hi flow cats, would you lose any power? Thank you for any help. By the way, I have a 98 F150 4.6 L V8 with all 4 cats, Single 3 inch pipe that Y's into 2.5 dual tail pipes with 3 inch tips. I want it louder, but I don't want to lose much power.

256 V6 here and I want super quiet (quieter than stock ideally) but high flow. Should I get a true dual with mufflers? Can I have both pipes on the same (driver's) side to avoid gassing fellow cyclists?
Far as I know as long as the exhaust extends past the cab or rear axle your good most you got to worry about is sound ordnance. But I would of did an x pipe with straight pipes sounds cleaner but honestly after all the videos I watched of these trucks with the 5.4 I think they sound the best with a flowmaster super 44 muffler with an x pipe

True dual will always sound better but yea u can do that when u just want to be louder
Same on my 2000 250 5.4.
