Only a master with decades of experience could shoot and provide a video like this one. What a pro you are T-bone! And most likely in the upper 1 percent of all engine mechanics in the united states of america, In my opinion. Every single twenty year old small engine mechanics should have required video watching of all of your videos As part of their small engine curriculum certificate. Because they're not going to learn from a more senior person in their shop, As the small shops they work at simply don't have Old professionals who are true masters like you. And by the way , I hope you don't mind, but I have watched so many lousy small engine repair videos that I simply tell them they need to watch some of yours to understand how to do them right. They don't know how to work and explain the repair at the same time or They are talking nearky all the time. And often these Part time mechanics shooting youtube videos to make $ work on a machine for the very first time!!! Just don't retire okay??? 😂 👍👍👍
While I still haven’t been able to fix my mower just yet, I just wanted to say that I love how you get right to diagnosing in your videos and you don’t need to first tell us the complete history of lawn mowers and how grass first came into existence to begin every video. The amount of videos on TH-cam like “Fix your (whatever) in 5 minutes!” that are 20 minutes long is insane haha.
I recently discovered your channel. You are a REAL small engine mechanic. You know how to properly diagnose and troubleshoot. I see so many people that just keep hanging unneeded parts on until the unit runs.
This video saved me a bunch of time and frustration. I've got an old Z225 that has been parked for several years and the darn thing won't start. The fuel shutoff solenoid at the bottom of the carb is to blame, which I now know thanks to this video! EDIT: Damn it keeps getting better, direct and specific instructions on how best to remove the carb on this model. I love it. You are the man T-Bone!!!
I’ve been doing repair work from my home for about ten years now and I rarely find it necessary to replace a carb. I can usually clean the carb and maybe replace the seals and/or replace the needle and seat. It is much less expensive to the customer to pay for the twenty minutes it takes to repair than the cost of a new carb - especially since I charge much less for labor than an actual shop. Parts and labor to clean the carb is usually less than fifty bucks as opposed to 100+ for a new OEM carb. An aftermarket carb is a crap shoot as to getting a good one.
Been fumbling around trying to learn why my mower won’t run - this video is spot on - my mower was commandeered by wife to drag her horse ring and just flat abused and then abandoned- I’m in process of trying to bring her back to life and turned my carport area into cooters garage for sure - makes her mad as hell🤣- anyway awesome videos and have subscribed big time - great mechanic you are and educator … Thks again Go heels Taft
Excellent video, I thought I had a bad solenoid but I couldn’t even jump it, turned out I had a loose bolt on the ground wire from the battery to the frame, loose at the frame. Tightened the bolt and it turns over great. Then I ran into running issues and blowback thru the carburetor and a no start, head gasket was blown, replaced that and now it only clicks again but spins over great with the plug removed so I’m guessing decompression spring is missing, will check for the bump and valve clearances tomorrow.
Man you only had your camera person for part of the video! Whats up with that T-Bone? Is she looking to get a pay raise? Great info brother as always! ✌🎥🇺🇸
Awesome video T bone. Lots of good info in here to get these folks running again. Thank you for taking the time to show this knowledge. 🤘. Stay cool. Supposed to be 100 tomorrow here South NC
It's in the description. My latest video has that song at the end, the welding video. I know it's in the description on that one. It's called Panama Hat I think
You can tell when the video gets better Mrs. T-Bone is in charge so a big hello to the expert 😆 Hey Mr. Raley you make sure you get out and catch some cat fish or some smallies for me you hear 👏👏
My 22 year old MTD 14.5 HP lawn tractor sat bone dry all last year because of the drought. Put ethanol free gas in the other day and.............no start. It ran great when I put her up, completely serviced. I had a feeling this would be the year she didn't start. At least it has spark, time to yank the carb I guess. Never had to yet after all these years. Fortunately my push mower fired up on the first pull.
It's a safety switch issue or a wire backed out of PTO connector. Test the safety switches with an ohm meter. Please test switches, I have a video on how to do that somewhere on my channel. Start with a careful visual inspection of wiring connectors. Then I'm off to testing switches with an ohm meter.
I keep finding bad ground thru frame on older mower Any time it’s hard or slow turning I check it with jumper cables It’s not AllWAYS the cam compression release broke
I need help not getting spark. For some reason the wiring to the safety switch to my seat is not working. The switch is working but ignition starts even if the safety switches out. The safety switch is good it works on other places
Don't ask me how I know but whatever you do don't use a shopvac to suck the fuel out of the tank. Static electricity will ignite the fumes and you'll be left with a shopvac that looks like it got napalmed.
Don`t know if you can help me out, I have a John Deere L118 with a briggs Intec 22hp and every week when I go to use it I have to crank it for an extended period. I cleaned and rebuilt the carb, replaced the fuel filter, checked the tank and fuel hoses for debris or blockage, checked the gas cap vent, adjusted the valves, replaced the battery, and replaced the spark plugs. The choke cable is adjusted properly and the butterflys close the whole way when applied - it has been doing this since I have had it (I bought it used). Also, the compression seems fine on it. After I start it the initial time, it fires right up every time afterwards (unless it sits for a week or so). I appreciate any help!
@@RaleysSmallEngines Not sure of the fuel pump pressure, what should it be? I`m in PA - my Dad used to live in North Carolina - the further south you go, the nicer the people are! lol
Great video T-Bone you are very good at what you do very awesome i wish I could do the things you do my friend if I had stuff to work i would bring it to you.
Great information. I have a Briggs 22 hp. I disconnected the fuel line from the pump to the carburetor inlet turned it over fuel came out of the line. But when I turned the engine off the fuel continued to flow out of the file line (siphoned out ). Would this be a sign the pump is bad ?
I bought a used lawnmower that would not run because of an electrical problem. When I turn the key I get nothing not even a click. When I cross the poles on the solenoid It tries to start.Gives a grinding noise. Does this mean the solenoid is bad?
Mine died while mowing. Went through srart up procedure, sat on seat, turned off pto, pushed brake in, put in nutrial, turned of key then on to start, no crank. Bat is12.65 vvolts. Stumped! Full of gas.
hi there i have a craftsman mtd 2020 it did a tune-up plug ,air ,oil ,filter , fuel filter. it now only runs for 20 mins to 1/2 . i have changed the fuel filter twice. it loses fuel in filter wait a few mins it will start. i have had cap off air line to tank claened . still dose it HELP
