      I want to say thank you for a great and inspirational tutorial!
      I too usually take the darker shades in my V in the outside corner and put my brighter (not always the lightest colour) in my inner corner. Even sometimes I use the most colourful shadow as an accent up closer to my nose because I have the most space there and use colour on my lower lash line because it will be more visible there. I also have more or less given up on winged eyeliner. I rather use eyeshadow when I try to get the cat-eye look.
      Once again thank you Anette!
      You did a great job!

      THANKYOU for this. My eyes are very similar to yours,( but the much older version- 41 now. Lol) They're petite, but kind of wide open?
      I have only found one or two hooded eye look videos that actually work for me. Wayne Goss has a few goodones.
      But this is AWESOME! I've had to work it out mostly myself, but it's sooooo good to know I am on the right track.
      I almost always do a cut crease of sorts,, or more often than not, just put my shimmer in the 'shape' of a cut crease so I can see the shimmer, ever so slightly there.
      The Morphe 507 or 506 (From memory) s a small blending brush that works on smaller hooded eyes that are on the cheaper side..i have about 15 of them. Lol. And sigma have a few nice ones, too. The E45 I think is good.
      Again, could talk forever about this! Thankyou.
      Socially distanced hugs from Downunder. Xx

    One good thing about hooded eyes is putting bright or fun colors on the lid where you can’t see it until you blink, then it’s like BAM! Surprise! Is it just me? 😂

      I completely understand about the Winged liner. I've Foregone wingedliner my whole adult life and up until about a year ago I started figuring out and playing with different shapes and sometimes I still think it looks bad 👎 but most of the time I come up with something that I do like. I just end up having to do something that is completely different than A lot of people( People without hooded eyes lol).... The struggle is real though.

    Apart from you being an amazing color artist, this is why I watch you. Our eye shape is very similar, my brows are a little lower than yours so I have even less 'upper' lid to work with. But you really have helped. Make More Hooded Eye Videos!!!!! Beginners will thank you!

      I don't have much space between my brow (esp the middle to tail area because it's so downturned!) & lid to the point that I started shaving half my brow off just so I can utilize that space. I draw the tails back on much more straight. I love it.

    I have one that’s more hooded than the other, so it’s impossible to get my eyes to look the same. It’s that darn troll of a left eye that always gives me issues.

    • @JaimeeSander
      @JaimeeSander 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same!! I have something called Horner’s Syndrome, so my left eye droops and doesn’t dilate. It’s super fun with my already hooded eyes to make the two eyes match!

    • @BrownEyedGirl14
      @BrownEyedGirl14 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same! My right eye can look decent but the left... Ooft that eye isn't even related to the right. So asymmetrical and impossible to get them looking the same. Different shape and different hooded degrees. It's so unfair, right?!

  • @krystalfukinmarie757
    @krystalfukinmarie757 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    😂😭 YES! The "hooded eyes" tutorials that are rarely actual hooded eyes are so annoying, it took me forever as well to learn that not only are my eyes hooded they’re deep set 😩 and the number of "beauty gurus" who I’ve heard say your eyes can’t be both deep set & hooded... yikes! That was half the reason I subscribed to you when I first found you, bcuz your makeup style is so much like mine & we have similar eye shapes 💕

  • @christyfielding7498
    @christyfielding7498 4 ปีที่แล้ว +53

    Ive always had issues finding people who's eyes arent just hooded but downturned and has a heavy prominent brow bone area. I dont really know how else to describe it but ive got a lot of fatty tissue on my browbone. And that makes it hard to shape my eyeshadow in like a winged out or whatever shape.

    • @yensid4294
      @yensid4294 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes! Me too. I think it's called Puffy Hooded Eye? Whatever. My brow bones actually cast a shadow on my eyes because they stick out farther & form an overhang shelf. Real fun to deal with. I usually need 2 or even 3 transition shades & end up mixing the darkest outer v shade with the transition shade for this purpose to push that hood back & fake a crease.

    • @EH012
      @EH012 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Go sideways! A "lift" for a lot of people is angled up, but if your eyes are downturned, horizontal "wings" look more reasonable. Suits me far better, anyway, without having to do a GIANT wing, ya know? 😁

    • @ash-is-napping
      @ash-is-napping 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have very deep set eyes it’s unlikely you have hooded eyes, you are more likely to have a prominent brow bone. But this can also cause issues with eye shadows and wings - different issues to what those with hooded eyes struggle with.

    Annette let me first say THANK YOU! So many people claim to have hooded eyes on youtube and most have creased lids. They don't get the struggle! The hood is the upper lid covers up the mobile lid. This means little to no mobile lid is visible when the eyes are open. Ugh! the struggle. And cut creases are so different for real hooded eyes.

    Yes! I love this. I got into makeup recently and learned to use some of these techniques this past year. It almost feels like I am contouring my eyelids to make it appear like I have "normal" eyes. I wish I knew these techniques when I did my wedding makeup. I was happy with the look, but I applied my eyeshadow like someone who does not have hooded eyes. When I had my eyes open it was hard to see my eyeshadow. It disappeared under my hood.

    Honestly, watching your videos has changed how I do my make up entirely. I've been watching make up videos for years, but I would always skip eyeshadow because I thought I was just hopelessly terrible at it. But I just have small, deep set, mostly hooded eyes. Between learning to work with my eye shape from watching you and getting into color (from lots of smallish TH-camrs), I'm so much happier with how my make up looks now.

    I have heavily hooded eyes and aging hooded eyes at that. It really took me a long frustrating time to realize that trying to do cut crease looks, wings, etc. that those without hooded eyes do was an exercise in futility. Don't you find it interesting that brands rarely ever feature artists with hooded eyes? It's like if you can't do a quadruple cut crease and a cartwheel that you are seen as a lesser artist. Thank you so much for the tutorial!

    You were the first person I found (after much looking) that actually had hooded eyes even remotely like mine. It was so exciting to get to watch eye looks that I could even have a hope of recreating. Also the fact that you weren't doing a brown smokey eye that was "work appropriate" :p Thank you

    Not only do I have hooded eyes but I also have a deep deep set kinda crease and not a lot of space above my crease. This is why I have never learnt to do winged liner. Honestly it’s only through videos like yours that have taught me that small brushes are a must. Love all your videos, they really are helpful to us hooded eye ladies. 🙏❤️xxxxx

    If the upper crease extends past the lower lashline! 😬❤ *Sobs in hooded agreement*
    Also, the Korean style of 'puppy liner' instead of cat eyes works for me, as does using the lower lashline to showcase colour instead of the lid. 😊 I've come to love my hooded eyes... and every time you say "because my one eye is more hooded than the other", it validates me on a deep level! 😄❤

    FYI, people with hooded eyes might have a crease. It depends on where the break is for where your hood starts. Yours starts very low on your lid. Mine starts higher but I have more skin that folds over. I'm much older than you too, so that may have something to do with it. LOL Still love the video, really good general info - just wanted to throw that out in case others are like me and wondered about that.

      Teagan Smith
      my eyes are getting older and more folded underneath my hood too. Here I use a eyeshadow primer and it will help some. But the crease will crease (the fold will fold). In some ways it's just to accept it. I have started to move my brighter or more colourful shadows closet to my nose and up to my brow and on my lower lashline and surround my inner corner with the colour instead. Brecause my fold don't crease as much there yet and it's a bigger space to see the colour, at least on me. It might work for you too.

    • @teaganshines4800
      @teaganshines4800 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @Quilting_sky
      @Quilting_sky 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Teagan Smith i use urban decay primer potion in the purple tube. It's more silicon like I belive. I have oily lids so I use it because it helps with my mascara not smearing as much. I think there might be better alternatives out there but truthfully I don't have the time or the money to try it all out and the UD one is good enough and is easy for me to get hold of. I hope it will help you some. I think Robert Walsh (spelling might be wrong) had a talk through about diffrent primers and what they might do for diffrent eyelids. It was very interesting.

    I have hooded eyes and also not a lot of space between the lid and brow (lucky you ☺). I find that simpler is better - one crease shade, one lid shade, and one color to deepen the outer vee is the max. On the other hand, I can wear really colorful looks and they look more subtle on me (since half of the look is hidden ), so that's a plus; work doesn't object 😉

  • @MegaGreendaypunk

    Great video, reminds me of the technique I use for eyeshadow too. My eyes aren't as hooded as yours (the crease line matches up to my waterline if that makes sense and I have a tiny bit more lid space though it disappears if I do liner) so I can do baby wings or do puppy liner, but bringing the shadows up to the browbone is such a good technique for all eyes!

    • @AnnettesMakeupCorner
      @AnnettesMakeupCorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm do u use a glitter glue or glitter primer? And an eyeshadow primer? Both will help a ton. For eyeliner transferring, make sure its waterproof. I cant use shadow as liner or eye pencils, they always transfer, so i only use a liquid or gel liker or no liner at all

      @@AnnettesMakeupCorner I use an eyelid primer and just started setting the primer. Setting it is only making a small difference. I also use setting spray after my makeup is done, and it still mushes around and comes off by end of day. 🤷‍♀️

    I do something very similar with eyeliner. I have hooded eyes that are shallow/not deep set as is prominent among some East Asians but it's also not a "monolid" so those "how to do makeup on Asian eyes" tutorials usually don't work. Strong/bold eyeshadow without eyeliner looks incomplete without eyeliner to me, so I either use a liquid eyeliner pen to do a very thin line or use dark eyeshadow along the lashline to smoke it out.
