So, so glad you made this video! As a working MUA for over 25 yrs, its nice to see someone who knows how to do "real" makeup. People get disappointed because they don't have the huge doe eyes like their fav youtuber and wonder why their makeup doesn't come out looking the same. Hooded eyes don't seem to be holding back stars such as Jennifer Lawrence, Michelle Williams, or Gisele Bundchen!
I know this video is a year old but I just found your channel not too long ago. I'm going to be turning 50 years old next month and I've been searching for videos for the mature, hooded & downturned eyes. I've always had hooded eyes but as I've gotten older they've become more hooded & downturned. When I was younger, I always put on my eyeshadow just like you did in this video. I took a step back from wearing makeup altogether for quite a few years and then recently started wearing it again. I found all these videos about how to put on makeup but could never get the eyeshadow right. It looked horrible. Thanks to you, I now know I can go back to putting it on like I did when I was younger. Thank you so much for this video and I look forward to watching more of them. I just want to say you're very beautiful and very professional. Take care & until next time, Love!!!
There are definitely many pros to social media, but the major con I see is everyone starting to look the same. I miss individuality, and think it should be shown and celebrated more often than it is. Thank you for taking the time to watch my video and for your comment!
And now that I've actually watched it, thank you again! I think you're the only youtuber I've ever watched who has actually explained things like how to find the crease. So many people assume a lot of knowledge on the part of their viewers - I love that somebody who doesn't know anything at all about makeup could leave feeling like they know how to do this!
This was, hands down, the MOST helpful video I think I've ever watched! I have tried the "TH-cam" way for years, and it just never worked on me. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise! I can't wait to try this tomorrow when I get ready!
Since entering my 50's I definitely feel like what used to work no longer does. I'm now trying to find out what does work and I can't wait to try this on my increasingly hooded and down turned eyes. A great and well explained technique!
Old school, new school it all works when you mix it all together. Love this video, and I have to tell you that only your tutorials work on downturned hooded eyes. My self esteem has tripled, and my eye makeup look has improved so much due to watching your video's! FYI, you are the only beauty guru!
I just have to comment AGAIN because I watched this 2 times. This is possibly the best "tutorial" video I have ever seen. EVER! And I have watched a lot of TH-cam videos (like hours and hours every night). Thank you again!
Risa Does Makeup I just did my makeup this morning, following your tips in this video and I love how my eyes look. they look less hooded and more open. I am at my mom's this week so I have more time to play around with makeup since I am on vacation from work! I just can't get over how great my eyes look today. You are a genius 😆
Ann Agresta It's amazing. In the "old days" for us over 35's, makeup counter ladies would hardly ever impose one look for everyone. Now unfortunately they do and reinforces the Instragram look which is a real shame as like someone else said, everyone starts looking the same
Holy Crap! Finally a tutorial that made perfect sense for my over 40 eyes! My eyes started to hood around 2 years ago and I have had to adjust my eyeshadow technique but been struggling! But this totally helped me thank you!!!
Special thanks to Risa! I'm asian, 25, and I have the most hooded n downturned eyes ever! I've been struggling to put some eyeshadows on my lids and spent extra time to make it even and look nice on my eyes. This tutorial from you changed the whole thing! Used to follow the make up gurus but didn't work. The eyeshadow n eyeliner looks so good on my lids now. So glad that I watched this. U are my fairy god mother😍😍😍
I love how you actually took time to explain everything step by step, instead of treating us like we are makeup professionals whose been licensed for ten years, I don't like the fact that they just explain the foundation and contour part , but when it comes to eyes, they're like just blend and wah-lah you're done. I had to google what each eye brush was made for and what transition colors & ect. were used for. Thanks for taking your time out of your day and being helpful. THIS is what a "makeup tutorial" should be like.
I don't typically comment but I wanted to let you know your video inspired me. A little back story: I'll be 36 in a couple of months. Just a couple years ago, I started to get into makeup. I've been frustrated since trying to figure out how to apply eyeshadow that didn't look like crap. I've pretty much given up and just use one color. I don't know if I necessarily have hooded eyes but I thought I'd try your technique. I received the makeup forever palette and I've been trying the looks that came in the guide. It's been a mess so I figured it couldn't get worse. Lol. It's now almost 1 am and I've tried your technique on both eyes with different color combinations. I'm legit so excited on how it turned out! I don't want to sound dramatic, but this video may have changed my life. I wish it was earlier in the night and I actually had somewhere to go. I feel so confident. Luckily we have plans tomorrow and I can't wait to try again. I'm also so excited that I can use a palette that I love and I'm no longer hating it bc I couldn't get it to work for me. I love the looks that a lot of youtubers do but I just can't recreate them bc of my lack of skill or the fact that I don't have a lot of eye lid area to work with. I try to use all 10 of the colors and I end up looking like a hot mess. Your video really hit home and made me realize that I need to do what works for me. It's definitely an aha moment for me and I thank you. One question. If I wanted to use pinks or purples, would I still want to use the darker color in the crease? I have the morphe 35f and I love the jewel tones but have no idea on what to do with them. Thanks again for this video. It's amazing how something so simple as learning a new makeup technique can increase my confidence.
Michelle Brown Hi Michelle! I don't know why I didn't see this comment before, I am so sorry! I definitely would have replied sooner!! I can't tell you how happy it made me to read this!!! If you are going to use purples and pinks, or any jewel tones, I would probably use them in the crease, but the blend out with a light neutral shade. It's all about taking the time to blend well when using more vibrant colors.
Wayne Goss is also one to look into. But this was nice, I have severely hooded eyes, were the skin hangs over my eyes. I am in my early 30ish, so not really looking forward to it getting worse.. :-P
I love your outlook on makeup! I think at our age (40 and over) we can appreciate the "non instagram" makeup looks. Sometimes I just get sick of it all looking the same. Don't get me wrong, I love to do the Instagram eye and the winged liner once in a while. But as a fellow "hooded eye" girl, I need to calm down with the wing once in a while :) Another great video! I appreciate all the hard work you put into this channel.
Ann Agresta thank you, is there anything wrong with not being 21 but still wanting to look great without looking like your trying to look 21 lol , I'm just trying to get tips on looking my best so I can feel my best!
I agree. As I get older, and the eyelids get droopier and crepier, I am finding less is more. I love a bold smokey eye, but I need to scale that back a bit!
I've barely even started this video and I feel the need to comment. THANK YOU for bringing up this "back to basics" concept. I have been struggling for ages to find a youtube makeup channel that actually understands that other people have different face shapes and features. I would love to see some of the more well known youtubers put makeup on another person (and I mean that sincerely).
I have found the easiest way to tightline - Pixi makes a black felt tip liner "cat eye ink." It's a slanted hard tip so you just stamp it under the lashes. It doesn't make my eyes water, takes 5 seconds, and stays put. It's a game changer for my hooded lids.
These techniques really make sense. I have viewed a dozen hooded eye videos, but always felt like they did not quite relate to me. I cannot wait to try this beautiful look. Thank you so much for sharing!
HANDS DOWN THE BEST VIDEO ON TH-cam!!!! Risa, you LITERALLY just changed my, "Hooded-Eye Life!!!" Years watching TH-cam and this is the first time I have ever received REAL HELP with my hooded-eye problem. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!
You're welcome!! I am SO happy my video helped you! I truly appreciate you taking the time to comment and let me know. People like you are the reason I never gave up on my channel!
I, for one, hope you never give up on your channel. It is not that often anymore that you can find genuine, talented, helpful, and amazing people like you. I am so grateful. This new technique has literally saved my life. Like you said in your video, I tried to follow the steps these other girls on TH-cam were using. My eye-shadow came out muddy and unflattering. All that has changed because of you. I never wore, nor did I know how to apply makeup until I was 33 years old. TH-cam taught me how. However, I have learned more from you in the last few days than I have from everyone else in the last couple years. THANK YOU!!!!!
Bella Rae oh my gosh I just saw this!!! Thank you so much, reading this made me so happy! I'm so glad I can help people feel better about themselves and their makeup skills!
Fantastic! I don't feel alone anymore..lol. I've done this old school look and technique for ages! The new TH-cam style does not work for me with hooded and downturned 40 plus eyes . Great video and a new subscriber.
Oh my goodness, I turned 40 last year and was looking for some “updated” makeup inspiration. So I tried doing my makeup the trending look right now. I looked like a clown. It. was harsh. 🤦🏼♀️😂 Sooo grateful that “old school” technique is still relevant and that I’ve been doing it right for myself all these years. I will say, though, that I LOVED her advice on using the transition color LAST instead of first. I’m going to start doing that. I think it’ll make a huge difference. When she grabbed that flat line brush to do winged eyeliner the old way, I was like YES! 🙌🏼☺️
OMG, this video is such a breath of fresh air here on youtube. Thank you so much! The last thing I watch on youtube are eye look tutorials because they are usually done on big eyes with deep creases. I truly hope you will focus more on these kinds of videos, where you can share your knowledge with tips on how to work with our features and flatter them. I think there is a movement starting on youtube where people are getting sick of hauls and fabricated monthly "favorites" videos where the youtuber sneaks in a product sent to her so she can "rave" about it. Anyway, I just wanted to say this is actually how I usually do may eye look because the "youtuber" way is impossible with my no-crease eyelids.
This is the video that changed everything for me. I re watch it when I need a refresher. You have helped so many people like me. Love and Blessings 💖💖💖
I love how you break down all the steps so I can actually follow you! I'm offically setting my alarm for an earlier time than usual so I can try out your tips. Thanks so much!
23 years old and have hooded and downturned eyes. When I first got into makeup I thought the TH-cam way was the only way to do things. Little by little I said forget it and started doing my makeup my own way. no TH-cam videos no nothing just what I thought made me look my best. It makes me happy to see some of the techniques I've been using are actual techniques that makeup artist would use. If only this video was around when I first started doing makeup lol. Thanks for the boost of confidence
This is the best tutorial I have ever seen for hooded eyes! It's very helpful for me, a woman of 25 with hooded eyes & my lovely grandma who's 69. We're both attending a wedding soon and I'm her usual MUA. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS
Thank you so much... this was so helpful! I would love for this to be a series, like different techniques and eye looks for hooded lids. For example, taking Instagram/"fancy" looks like glitters, cut creases and etc and show us how to do those looks for hooded eyes! Thanks, Risa!
It's so good to finally hear from someone who places the emphasis on individuality of eye shapes and the simple need to "tweak" techniques to suit. As with Deanne N, I also thought it was the most helpful video I've watched to date! I'm trying this out tomorrow too! Thanks Risa.
I have looked at a lot of make up artist on u tube but I've learnt the most from your videos , I love the way you simplify everything . Thank you and I think you are gorgeous .
I cannot thank you enough. I been struggling with this for so long. Buying products after products to help me. when all I needed was to find you and this way you showed us. Truly changed my look!
This video made me subscribe to you. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH for making this. I'm 33, I'll be 34 in 2 days. I've always done my makeup, but not as intense, and as I've aged, became a tired stay at home mom & a wife, I've decided that I want to at least look presentable daily make so I've rediscovered that makeup makes me feel good, makes me more comfortable in my own skin. After watching thousands of these young ladies and men and their tutorials, and feeling like I look like I clown when I replicate their looks, I've kind of given up. The one day, I discovered a lady by the name Stephanie Marie. She's in her 40s, and also has hooded, downturned eyes. She wears soft, subtle makeup and I've learned a good amount of info from her, and I just really enjoy her videos in general. But today is different, today is magical because I discovered YOU. This single video has helped me tremendously and I can't wait to do my face tomorrow morning and incorporate your eyeshadow lesson that you just bestowed upon me. From the bottom of this tired mom who just wants to feel good in my own skins heart, THANK YOU. ❤👏👏
I am SO GLAD I found you!!! I am 50 yrs old and just started watching the youtube beauty/makeup videos (after seeing my adult daughter watch them for years ;)and I am SO HAPPY to find an older woman teaching tips and techniques for more mature faces; I knew a lot of the instructions the younger set were giving probably weren't the best for older women, but that's all that was out there except for one or two other makeup artists. Thank you and keep up the tips for the older set!
OMG!!! Thank you for stepping outside the box and showing us hooded peeps how to create a beautiful eye look!! I've done it the way other TH-camrs are showing nowadays, but it turned up looking muddy and unnatural. This is so doable and I love the tip on how to cut and place the falsies. I have very long eyelashes naturally, so I don't use falsies but I may try your tip for date night😏. THIS IS NOW MY GO-TO EYE LOOK!! I appreciate you teaching us how to do makeup RIGHT! God bless you!~*
I was thrilled to watch this video and see the polished versions of techniques I developed independently to deal with my hooded and downturned eyes! I (only 21) may not be in your target audience, but thank you so much for making this video!
jeepersluck I think many of us were, Kristin! I know I was, when I look at first grade (and younger) pictures of myself, they are very prominent and also downturned at the outer corners ... and very small on top of it! I feel triple cursed!!
Omg! Where have you been all my life. I’ve always had issues with doing my eyes, as I do have hooded eyes, and now that I’m in my 40’s, it’s worse. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video! ❤️
I have been trying out "hooded eyeliner" tutorials for weeks, and because my eyes are now more downturned and hooded (age 40) I always end up with thick ole wings that are of the Amy Winehouse proportions. Not great for work. This tutorial seems to make a lot more sense, although personally I think I will have to stick to matte shades. Cant wait to try it out. Thanks Risa!
Can't wait to try this! My eyes are downturned+hooded and it's always been a struggle, everybody's way just does not work for me. Thanks so much for sharing 😊
I cried watching this video! You have been so honest and I really appreciate that. Thank you for saying that it's okay not doing what others are doing. I know that, but to hear someone else say it just makes me happy and encouraged :)
Awesome video!! I also fell victim to thinking that all the tutorials on YT would work for my eyes not realizing that my eyes are semi-hooded and so many of those looks didn't work so well.
I just found your channel in my recommended videos and I'm so glad I did. I am in my late 20's and have hooded eyes. I have never really fallen into the fad of how most youtubers do their eye makeup, while it looks nice, it's just not for me. But, upon watching your video I literally, for years have done my eye makeup exactly how you showed. Minus doing the line with the shadow to show where to start your crease because I have always eye balled it. But I was so happy to see that I do my makeup how a professional does, and they recommend that method. I have found recently that taking my crease color a bit above my crease, and not putting it directly into it really helps that cease color show and my eye makeup really does look better. Thank you so much for this, you are absolutely stunning, I love the lip color and will be watching plenty more of you. You are so helpful. -AnnaNicole
Omg! Thank you for this! I never thought of looking down, into a mirror. I'm definitely trying this, tomorrow! I just subscribed to your channel, after watching this and your brushes for hooded eyes, video. I think this is going to be a total game changer! Best hooded eye video, by far (& I've watched a ton of them)!
Risa you're a classy lady. Extremely professional, concise in your explanation and execution. You're coaching skills are the best I've witnessed on TH-cam, in any class room or seminar and that's saying something as I'm 54 years young. You ability to motivate woman and making us feel proud and not to damn old for a wing is well appreciated. Bravo!
Very good tips. I agree that the eyeliner should really be the focus with hooded eyes. A lot of eye shadow tends to be the issue. One look that I do a lot because it just works so well with aging eye lids is to use one main color. I use a Dior eye primer, which also makes a great highlight. on my lid I use a very light brown or taupe. One of my favorites is Burberry's Barley. I use it one my lid and slightly into my crease. It may not be the most exciting look, but it lasts and stays in place. It's especially good for daytime looks.
Just love your channel! Even though I’m 62 I don’t ever feel that your content isn’t meant for me. Of course some videos are more or less appropriate for me due to my individual needs, concerns, etc. but you never make me feel “aged out”. Thank you for that!
Just went step by step with this video and loved the result! I have been doing my eyeliner wrong for years! I am sooooo glad I found your channel! Thank you so much!
The BEST video on hooded, Down-turned eyes. I too am tired of cookie cutter looks. I remember in my teens a makeup artist telling me how to correct my eyes. I didn't know anything was wrong with them! I am now 62, and finally love the eyes God gave me. Thanks for showing me how to make them look their best!
Great video Risa! I have very hooded eyes and I watch ALL the TH-cam makeup tutorials but I apply my makeup totally different then everyone I know. Because of my hooded eyes I can not apply my mascara last (as all TH-camrs do) because it will get everywhere on my hooded eyelids. I actually START with applying my mascara and then I apply the rest of my eye makeup! When I am done with my eye makeup I apply 1 extra (thin!) layer of mascara to cover any eyeshadow that may have fallen on my lashes to make them dark black again. This works fantastic and I can recommend it to everyone with hooded eyes! (I feel I have sold the goose with the golden eggs for free, haha, but I hope it helps some of you!) XO 💜💁
Ina Boeters This is actually a fantastic idea! I have to tilt my head way back when doing mascara because I inevitably get some on my lids and it's so frustrating!!!
I was exactly the same as you but recently took the plunge and tried to do it mascara last and for some reason with extra care I can do it now... no idea what's changed but it's possible now
This has been THE BEST makeup video I have watched on TH-cam (I've watched a lot!). Descriptive, don't skip steps, talk too fast or ramble on, and she continues to remind what type of eye this look is for. THANK YOU!!! Liked, subscribed, and saved!!!
Great video....glad u addressed the fact about YT gurus...I was also taught in makeup school about eyes, face shape etc and that's how u should look at ur client or urself to do makeup...i think this is missing a lot with most tutorials...i don't think you were being critical at all regarding the YT looks....ty
You are a breath of fresh air! I'm over 40 and hooded eyed and really never perfected the winged eyeliner. I like to keep up with the trends, but I'm also not 21 anymore. You really changed the way I'll do my routine! Thank You!! 😁
I absolutely love what you said at the end about no right or wrong way, just working with what looks best on us individually. Such a great tutorial. simply beautiful look for hooded/down turned eyes. Thank you thank you
I want to personally "ty" so very, very much for changing my life! I have always had problems applying eyeshadow that it frustrated me to no end! After seeing this particular video and using the techinques you displayed, my eyeshadow goes on effortlessly! 😊 I cannot believe what a difference it has made in my makeup routine! I get compliments all of the time on my "eye" looks! (This may sound strange; but I never really knew I had hooded eyes until you described what they were- Now that I know, it makes life alot easier) Plz keep the "tutorials" coming bc I LOVE them so very much!
Wow! I've not seen this technique before. Thank you so much! I will experiment this week and weekend. I have several false lashes, but have been afraid to try. Will now!
Wow!! This is the FIRST makeup tutorial I've ever watched and you're GREAT at explaining things. I've been to makeup boutiques and asked for help with my eye makeup and they look at me like I'm some kind of crazy person (not to mention how difficult it was to even ask in the first place). I so WISH I could find someone willing to help with my disgusting face as I'm aging. In the past, I was a cosmetic salesperson representing Ultima II, Charles Of The Ritz, and the like and I did makeovers. I NEVER made a customer feel uncomfortable or intimidated, or tried my best not to. I don't own any eyeshadow brushes as I still use the sponge applicators and I think I'll have a learning curve ahead of me. But, I'm definitely going to try your technique! Thank you so much for sharing this awesome tutorial!!🤗
Thank you so much for this great video, I love the way you take your time to explain what you are doing which many you tubers do not xxx love your videos 💋
Tracy Shaw the difference is that Risa is an educated professional MUA and so many of the other beauty influencers are just ppl who really like makeup and are good at putting it on their own face. That's not to say that I don't like other channels too for different reasons (Jessica Braun for instance does thorough honest reviews and does her own makeup beautifully).
You had me at “hooded eyes” darling. I have always love eye shadow and eye liner but I struggle so much that I rather just wear mascara only. I will definitely practice your tips tomorrow morning. I have so many beautiful palettes that I haven’t even tried yet.
Thank you! Thank you! This video is amazing. This is the first video I have seen in a long time that not only addresses an issue many of us have (myself included) but celebrates it. 👏
Thank you Risa! I have struggled with my hooded eyes since high school and just finally gave up on eye shadow altogether. Now at age 60 I'm ready to give it another whirl. Cannot wait to try this technique. Geat step by step video and thank you for zooming in on your eyes, so viewers can actually see what you are doing. You are great and I will be watching more!
You deserve millions of subscribers. Every time you ask a question I'm like YESSS! Even towards the end like when you said 'oh so she doesn't use transition shades.' I'm like, she reads minds!😄Thanks for all the tips and explaining every single thing. Please do this technique again using other colours! I'm definitely subscribing!
Couldn't hit Subscribe fast enough! This is the 1st video I've watched of yours & it's as if you made it just for me! I cannot wait to try your technique when I get up tomorrow. THANK YOU from this 48year old chick who loves of ALL things makeup whilst having severely hooded eyes & droopy, crepey lids!
Thank you! I feel welcomed just by reading your comment. **UPDATE: I did your technique today on my eyes & I'm BLOWN AWAY by how a simple change of starting with color on the mobile lid & blending it up into the hood instead of starting with a transition color--LIFE CHANGING! To be honest, I was eager to try it, but it felt so wrong at first bcuz nobody does this on TH-cam & I've told myself "this must be the only way" & I'm so grateful for you & your tutorial to set me free from being beyond frustrated bcuz I can't make my eyes look like everybody else. In ONE video, you've helped me embrace my flaws & for the first time in a decade I truly felt like my outer beauty matched my inner beauty🙏🏼💖 THANK YOU RESA!!!
I just found this video . It's perfect for me, down turned hooded eyes. I am definitely going to try this. Very helpful especially the tight shots of your eyelid . Your winged eye liner tip is brilliant!
I'm so happy I found your video. I just turned 49 last month. Most of my life I've never enjoyed makeup, and used as little as I could get away with when Leaving the house. The last three years have marked many changes for me in my life. My husband and I have been on a journey to become healthier. As a result, we've both lost significant weight. This change has made me feel better about myself, and given me a desire to improve my makeup skills. I've watched so many videos, with beautiful makeup. I've begun to play more with my eye makeup, but I can never duplicate the looks I love. I decided to try videos for people closer to my age. I was so disappointed, thinking I'd waited too late to play with fun makeup. According to the videos for women my age, I should only use neutral matte shadows. I love your video, because I can see it's all in the techniques more so than the colors. Thank you for keeping your instructions easy to follow. I've now subscribed and look forward to learning more from you.
+jdeeann Hi! I am so happy you found my channel and that this video was helpful to you! Congrats on your weight loss and effort to have a healthier lifestyle! It's never too late!! 😃
This was amazing! I always feel like a Schlub when I try the "TH-cam" way! The eye lash tip is awesome! Thank you for exciting me about my makeup again!
BEST HOODED EYE TUTORIAL EVER! Thank you so much. My eyes are heavily hooded and I never can get my eye makeup to look right. Taking the time to explain everything so well as you demonstrated made such a difference. I was so frustrated I wasn't even doing eye shadow anymore. Only liner and mascara. Now I can have a fully complete makeup look!
HIGH FIVE on the best Hooded Eye tutorial video out there. I have hooded eyes and I can't wait to try this. I haven't tried false lashes but the half trick sounds like it would be easier. Thank you so much for this video. xoxo Heidi
I used to do my makeup like this, so thank you for reminding me how I really like to do my eyeshadow. I feel with all the makeup videos it can get really overwhelming to try to do it like a TH-camr, and sometimes it just doesn’t work, but what you did is the perfect way for my eyes. Sometimes we just have to go back to basics just like you said. I learned from 90s early 2000s makeup artists and in my opinion they are still the best teachers with the best techniques that work for me personally. So thanks again for reminding me what works for me ❤️
I totally agree, I use this same technique I have for years. I actually figured it out on my own. I think it works great. Thanks for sharing. God bless!
Im 25 and my eyes are moderately hooded and I do my makeup this way since I was like 19 I find it way more flattering I studied cosmetology and this is how they educated me to always do makeup based on the clients specific needs! Loved this
I've been doing the winged eyeliner thing since high school (1999ish), but as I've gotten older (34 now), my eyes have definitely become more downturned and it's harder to get the winged liner and eyeshadow to look right, and I've watched multiple make-up tutorial videos, but I still have trouble getting it just right. It's 3 A.M. and I'm watching videos on TH-cam, so I'm not going to attempt make-up right now, but I am going to try some of these tips later.
Girl, iv watched hundreds of videos from the 'gurus' which are fantastic but not always for me! You definitely no what your talking about, you've completely smashed a tutorial for people like me with hooded eyes! You really do have some knowledge!! Thank you soo much, my make up has never looked so good! I would say I'm pretty good at make up but now iv slayed the eyes after many TH-cam tutorials try haven't worked! Thank you so much, it's changed my make up game for life! Plus it doesn't matter whether I'm doing a halo eye or a cut crease, your steps always work!!! Thanks again, what a genius xxx
Oh,my gosh! This is the best thing I have learned about doing eye make up for hooded, down turned eyes EVER! I can't thank you enough for sharing these techniques.
Risa Does Makeup I also have very little space between my crease and eyebrows which is probably why I struggle more with hooded eyes. Any thoughts or suggestions on techniques?
I'm so happy to have found this channel. I'm 43 & have hooded eyes and feel like I can nevet match what the younger beauty channels are doing, which is very fruatrating. Your videos are so helpful and give me a new, better way that works on my face. Thank You!!
Thank you so much for doing this I will try and see if it works. I really like watching you you are very knowledgeable and so down to earth with such a genuine heart. Thank you so much
I consider myself experienced w makeup and still learned so much from this video, you're a great teacher. You are so right about having to abandon what you see the YTer's do and find techniques that work best for you.
This is one of the best tutorials I have come across. I love the fact that you zoomed in super close and really explained each step and why. Thank you!
Thank you for this. I'm in my late 20's and was born with hooded, downturned eyes. Before TH-cam I always knew makeup was relative and unique to the person wearing it but when you get caught up in all the beautiful tutorials available now, you kind of lose sight of that and start trying to make your eyes something they're not. This is a good reminder that I can still do fabulous looks, I just have to tailor it to MY eyes, not a carbon copy of someone else's.
Hi Risa!! Finally someone who understands us young or mature ladies with hooded eyes! I subscribe to other youtubers, but you are the first one to accomplish what no one else has been able to do. I am mature retired makeup artist and you are amazing! New subscriber!! Becky
My eyes are the only thing that show my age, always hooded they are now creped too, can't do winged liner anymore as the hood folds over the outer corner
Yeah it's about time I've been in the industry for almost 30 years and it's rewarding to teach my client their eyes. We all can't follow the trends good work!
I am totally new here to your channel but OMG I am sooooooo glad I found your channel!!!!!! Finally someone who understands & address the struggle with hooded eyes!!!!
I feel so much relief watching this video,I'm not the only one who struggle with this.Thank you so much for helping us .
finally someone who understands us middle aged and hooded eyed women!! you've become my favorite!!! THANK YOU!!!
Desi Wilson 😃😊❤️
I’m 23 and I’ve struggled with downturned hooded eyes since I started wearing makeup as a preteen 🤣🤣🤣
It's so refreshing to see another TH-camr talking about pre-social media makeup technique!
There are definitely many pros to social media, but the major con I see is everyone starting to look the same. I miss individuality, and think it should be shown and celebrated more often than it is.
Thank you for taking the time to watch my video and for your comment!
No prob! I think the exact same as you on this--I love the looks but there's so much else out there!
This tutorial is a Godsend! I’ve been struggling with tiny hooded eyes my whole life.
If there was an Oscar for the best make-up tutorial for hooded/downturned eyes you'd definitely win!!!!!!!!!
Arya Stark Wow! Thank you so much!!!
Agreed. Best video I've seen on hooded eyes. Thank you!
I agree
And now that I've actually watched it, thank you again! I think you're the only youtuber I've ever watched who has actually explained things like how to find the crease. So many people assume a lot of knowledge on the part of their viewers - I love that somebody who doesn't know anything at all about makeup could leave feeling like they know how to do this!
This was, hands down, the MOST helpful video I think I've ever watched! I have tried the "TH-cam" way for years, and it just never worked on me. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise! I can't wait to try this tomorrow when I get ready!
Deanne N Yay!!!! I am so happy to hear that! I hope it helps you!!! Xoxo
Agreed. this was extremely helpful! LOVE IT!
I said the exact same thing in my comment.
I agree!! Can't wait to try this myself-thanks for this video!
Totally agree with you.
This was brilliant!!
This comment is exactly why I do videos!!! Thank you so much!
I used to work for Trish in NY & I agree, in my day there was no such thing as a transition color just light, medium, & dark
I just have to comment AGAIN because I watched this 2 times. This is possibly the best "tutorial" video I have ever seen. EVER! And I have watched a lot of TH-cam videos (like hours and hours every night). Thank you again!
Ann Agresta 😀😀😀❤️❤️❤️
Risa Does Makeup I just did my makeup this morning, following your tips in this video and I love how my eyes look. they look less hooded and more open. I am at my mom's this week so I have more time to play around with makeup since I am on vacation from work! I just can't get over how great my eyes look today. You are a genius 😆
Risa Does Makeup 🙌❤️
Wow!! Finally a tutorial that really hits the mark. Thank you so much...simple yet effective. I needed this. Yo
You are SO welcome!! I'm thrilled to hear that!
I love how thoroughly you explained this! I love how close up to the camera you were too. It was so much easier to understand!
Ann Agresta Thank you Ann! I too like to try different looks but at some point we have to come to terms with what really looks best on us!
Ann Agresta I am 32 and I do not like the Instagram eye at all. Especially when I see it on a 15 year old. I love your techniques.
Amen!
Stacey O Thanks for recommendation Stacey! I will look for that.
Stacey O I will, too. Thanks!
You're so very welcome!!! So glad I found your channel.
Excellent!!!!!!
Ty for the video and answering to my comment. I am a 64yr old women and still trying to do a wing on my down hooded eyes and I will try again.
Wilma Traylor I hope these tips help! Remember you can do a tiny wing or none at all at it will still look nice!
Anna Hussey Great idea!
Reena Sharma You have no idea how happy this makes me!!! Thank you!!!
I am SO GLAD I found you!!! I am 50 yrs old and just started watching the youtube beauty/makeup videos (after seeing my adult daughter watch them for years ;)and I am SO HAPPY to find an older woman teaching tips and techniques for more mature faces;
I knew a lot of the instructions the younger set were giving probably weren't the best for older women, but that's all that was out there except for one or two other makeup artists. Thank you and keep up the tips for the older set!
+mlfetterman I am so happy you found me too! Thank you so much for your kind words! 😃
God bless you!~*
+Silver Mint 😃💕😃💕
I was thrilled to watch this video and see the polished versions of techniques I developed independently to deal with my hooded and downturned eyes! I (only 21) may not be in your target audience, but thank you so much for making this video!
I was born with hooded eyes (there's next to no mobile lid visible with my eyes open). Very helpful instruction! Thank you! Kristin
jeepersluck I think many of us were, Kristin! I know I was, when I look at first grade (and younger) pictures of myself, they are very prominent and also downturned at the outer corners ... and very small on top of it! I feel triple cursed!!
I feel you! Thankful for Risa's help!
Love the old school advice!
Reminds me of how I used to do it... and need to start again. Great video
I cried watching this video! You have been so honest and I really appreciate that. Thank you for saying that it's okay not doing what others are doing. I know that, but to hear someone else say it just makes me happy and encouraged :)
+roelp87 Yay!!!!! This comment made my day. Thank you 💕💕💕
Awesome video!!
UrbanChicky It sounds perfect!
I was exactly the same as you but recently took the plunge and tried to do it mascara last and for some reason with extra care I can do it now... no idea what's changed but it's possible now
And I thought I was the only one!! I always wondered how those girls could apply their mascara last and not ruin their shadow!
I tilt my head back and CLOSE my eye as I swipe. It prevents the wand from pushing my lashes onto my eyelid!
I cannot believe what a difference it has made in my makeup routine!
I get compliments all of the time on my "eye" looks!
(This may sound strange; but I never really knew I had hooded eyes until you described what they were- Now that I know, it makes life alot easier)
Plz keep the "tutorials" coming bc I LOVE them so very much!
Wow! I've not seen this technique before. Thank you so much! I will experiment this week and weekend. I have several false lashes, but have been afraid to try. Will now!
Gloria Tyson I'm so happy to hear that Gloria! I hope this helps you!
Gloria Tyson hahaha! Me too. I keep buying them but am too scared to try. This was helpful
Tracy Shaw Thanks Tracy! 😊❤️
Amanda Eide It should be celebrated! Hooded eyes are beautiful!
yes, aka "our bedroom eyes" ;)
Thank you Risa! I have struggled with my hooded eyes since high school and just finally gave up on eye shadow altogether. Now at age 60 I'm ready to give it another whirl. Cannot wait to try this technique. Geat step by step video and thank you for zooming in on your eyes, so viewers can actually see what you are doing. You are great and I will be watching more!
That was amazing! This technique makes so much more sense for my eye shape. Thank you!!!
Welcome to my channel! I am so happy that you found me and that you enjoyed this video!
So helpful! How about showing us how to do the brows properly. Your brows are beautiful I never know where to begin and where to end.
Lynne Carlson I can definitely do a video on brows!
Thank you so much Risa!
Risa Does Makeup yes!! I need some help with my brows!
Yay!!!!! Thank you so much!! I am thrilled to hear this technique worked well for you.
Loved this
Love this tutorial! Thank you for doing it! Can't wait to try it. You look gorgeous
After all these years this video is still one of the very best for downturned and hooded eyes. A blessing really.
Thanks again, what a genius xxx
please do more of these. Thank you, can't wait to try.
Oh,my gosh! This is the best thing I have learned about doing eye make up for hooded, down turned eyes EVER! I can't thank you enough for sharing these techniques.
I used your technighe this morning and it worked so much better for me! Thank you!
Yay! I am so happy hear that!!
+Risa Does Makeup thank you again.
OMGosh BEST HOODED EYE TUTORIAL BY FAR!!!! Definitely has that Ah Ha moment!!
thank you so much for this video! As a makeup artist and a hooded-eyed woman I really appreciate how realistic and practical your advice is! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I really like it and to me this technique definitely looks more easier for me. 🙀😉😘Thank you and God bless your talent.
Emily Roman Thank you Emily!
This video has been the most helpful eye make-up tutorial I've seen on TH-cam. Thank you!!!!
YOU ARE AMAZZING...LOOK OUT GOSS YOU MAY HAVE MET YOUR MATCH
Aw, I wish!!!! xoxo
This is one of the best tutorials I have come across. I love the fact that you zoomed in super close and really explained each step and why. Thank you!
That is like that! ...more video like this. Excellent !
+prettyhelpful Well said! You are exactly right! Xoxo
Congratulations!!!! This video is so helpful! U r such a pro!
Hi Risa!! Finally someone who understands us young or mature ladies with hooded eyes! I subscribe to other youtubers, but you are the first one to accomplish what no one else has been able to do. I am mature retired makeup artist and you are amazing! New subscriber!! Becky
My eyes are the only thing that show my age, always hooded they are now creped too, can't do winged liner anymore as the hood folds over the outer corner
lizberry2 Don't worry about doing the wing, just line to the outer corner. It will still look great!
I appreciate the zoomed in parts, so much easier to see up close. I wish more videos were zoomed in up close.
