+ECL28E I have wondered why this didn't get on one of the best games of 2013 list? He didn't try to wreck it badly and he seemed to actually like the game rather than throw it underneath the 50 ton roller wheeled bus. His MGR, Tomb Raider (2013) and Last of Us reviews had the games seem like they were unlikely to get on his list. Which was true, MGR was the only fifth game of the year out of the three games.

You can ease off to avoid attacks, yes. But by pressing the B button when sucking up a ghost, you can dodge attacks. It will drain your suction meter, though, in addition to not doing any damage for the brief time you're dodging.

No vitriol? Well, I guess I'll step up to the plate. Yes, Dark Moon was good, but it also lost at least two important features from the first. Actually, I'll say three. First, the controls for aiming your vacuum and movement are no longer smooth tank controls, but a weird button game of vertical alignment. Second, in the original game, your surplus profits (and indeed, all of your profits) went towards buying a sweet house. There was a nice picture of your estate, which admittedly isn't much, but at least gives you some sense that the Wall Street-esque lust for more currency was all worth it. Third, the first game had Portrait Ghosts, who were clearly actual dead people, adding some personality, backstory, and darkness. So here Yahtzee complains about made-up swear words, and in his review of the new Thief he complains that nobody says "taffer" anymore, but drops f-bombs. Hmm...
The original Thief games had their own made up slang instead of just fake swear words. It was kind of charming and made the world seem more real. Defiance just has fake swear words because even though it's M rated, it's based on a tv show (even though tv hasn't been relevant for ten years and won't EVER matter again) and thus has to follow tv's archaic profanity laws. It doesn't add anything to the world. They're just there.
TheGeoshark That response is completely biased. As someone who doesn't give a toss about either I can decisively say that it sounds fucking idiotic in both cases.
The golden rule for swear words is that they need to be a snappy, easy to throw out words that express disatisfaction. Shit and Fuck... Taff is like saying fuck. Snappy, easy to throw out and message comes across just fine.
I played this when it first came out, beat it in two weeks and then I was done with it. There was just nothing to keep me coming back. It's a great concept for a game, but I don't know why Dark Moon is so well regarded with as little content as there is. I definitely preferred the Metroidvania progression of the first game (plus a ton of ghost bosses with personality!). Hopefully someday soon Nintendo will make it easy to revisit it.
why didn't you put this on your top 5 games of 2013? I'm just wondering I mean you didn't say in your reviews that mgrr, tomb raider and the last of us was that good, we're both fully aware that Luigi's mansion 2 is quite good.
Speaking as a guy whose got some pretty big hands himself, I can relate. The 3DS kinda does dig into the palms a bit, and the Wii U gamepad really is huge and a little awkward to manage.
I never said it wasn't comfortable, I said it was awkward. Trying to use the touchscreen on some games proves tricky when you have to balance the damn thing on one hand and draw with the other.
My main issue with this game was how utterly shit the boss fights were. The first fight against the spider was good, the fight against big Buu was decent, but the rest were shit. A turret section in a Luigi's Mansion? With shitty motion controls? Who the hell thought of that train wreck? Not to say that all the bosses in the original were gold, but they at least gave the bosses personality, atmosphere and had some interesting ideas behind them.
***** Yes there are. You need to tilt the 3DS to aim the flashlight/vacuum (As well as the turret in that stupid boss fight), and you also need to hold the 3DS steady to move across beams. Those are absolutely motion controls.
***** I have no idea what the hell you're talking about. There's no way to aim the Flashlight or Vacuum without the fucking motion controls. Moreover, you also can't do the stupid balancing sections without the motion controls.
imaloony8 Actually, pressing X will aim your vacuum/flashlight up, and B will aim them down. It's still a little awkward, but it's entirely optional. I'm pretty sure there's an alternative for the balance sections too, although I can't remember it. The real problem is you can't turn the motion sensor off, so in a bumpy car ride the view can jerk all over the place sometimes, especially in the window peeping sections. Still, this has never been more than a minor annoyance for me, even though I mostly play in moving vehicles. Give the game another shot, it's worth it.
theparkourhobo Oh no, you misunderstand; I played the game start to finish, and I DID enjoy it, but I also had serious problems with it, the largest of which being the really awkward controls, the terrible boss fights, and the mission structure (It was much more fun when the mansion was free-roam). I would recommend it for some people to try... but probably not buy at its retail price.
Ragnarok is originally the event on Norse mythology that signifies the Apocalypse. It was then popularized as a sword by RPGs, the first one in my mind being FFIV, which had it as the best weapon for Cecil.
Not the first time he's liked something. In his earlier videos, he's stated that he enjoys Portal, and recently he's been giving praise to Dark Souls 1 and 2. So much with the Souls series that he's been mentioning them in other videos.
He likes a lot of games. He just talks in a riddle-like way that the fans that have watched him for a while understand. The trick is to listen really hard to what he hints at.
Honestly, this is the game that has made me actually consider getting a 3DS. I just recently got my hands on the original and absolutely loved it. It's been a long time since I've loved a game for the gameplay alone. I think it will also be the first time I will actually play through the harder second run version of the game.
You see the face Luigi has when you run around holding B? So priceless. I can see why you really like the game, I waited till I cleared the game before watching, just in case.
I really like this game. Sure, it's not for everyone, especially the hard core platformer fans of Mario, but for me the slower puzzle bits are quite satisfying to solve and build up nicely to the ghost-catching aspect. Nothing is like the feeling you get when catching a whole bunch of ghosts at once, I think.
Man, Luigi does change a lot. He was the best jumper among the Mario Bros in all the other ones (Super Mario 64 DS for an example, still one of my favorites)
The only thing wrong with the console itself is the long loading screens, but a patch has been confirmed for that. For the controller, I don't see how it's a gimmick. It's really useful for some games like MH3U, where instead of accessing a menu that blocks your entire screen to combine items, you can touch the screen once and the whole process is done.
For me it was the bit when King Boo (ooh, sorry, spoilers for the very obvious plot twist) moved in that photo. My reflexive muscle spasm practically flung my 3DS across the room.
I totally agree with the stupid Toad missions, and the fact that you only get 5 upgrades before the money becomes useless. But it's cool to know that he agrees with Luigi being the better brother. He's the rational one, the poor guy left in the shadows while his bro gets all the limelight. Pretty much the only reason why I fully supported the "Year of Luigi."
Me neither! I don't see what the problem is! I have big hands, but it isn't uncomfortable at all! I'll get a 3DSXL soon, though. I seriously prefer matte finishes on my consoles.
Dang. now i have discovered your slapped on actually better titles for the episodes that would make no one find the video ever but which are substancially artiste as well.
Whoa. You got that right on the nose. I must've spent something like 3 hours watching Zero Punctuations that day. They're kind of addictive, aren't they?

I love Ashens and Yahtzee, they always have such great snarky things to say and you learn lots of great English slang.
Yahtzee who finally likes a nentendo game? I have had all my Christmases have come at once :D
He liked Splatoon fairly enough
+pokemonmanic3595 oh yeah that too X- D
Surely he liked Pokemon Red or Blue or whatever
Windwaker and Majora's Mask
Don’t forget Metroid Prime (and 2 and 3)!
We need to write a petition to get a Luigi's Mansion 2 or a port of this game to the Wii U.
Would you look at that? The original is getting remade.
Just realized how long I had to scroll down on escapists "most viewed videos" to find a video that wasn't Yahtzees. Gotta love him!
3:11 "gosh it's getting awfully hot in here" xD
sometimes I am curious of what the inside of Yahtzee's mind is but then again that's probably one spot that's best left unexplored
why didn't you put this on your top 5 games of 2013? I'm just wondering I mean you didn't say in your reviews that mgrr, tomb raider and the last of us was that good, we're both fully aware that Luigi's mansion 2 is quite good.
You can press B to jump while catching ghost
Haha, this is brilliant. Subscribed.
Funny thing is that most swearwords started as made up words to Not say their original version which was already considered a swearword at the time.
TAFF!
My youtube window automatically jumped when the mustache popped in around 2:30. I laughed very long and hard about that
I just don't get how holding a wii mote or a 3ds is painful....................
Speaking as a guy whose got some pretty big hands himself, I can relate. The 3DS kinda does dig into the palms a bit, and the Wii U gamepad really is huge and a little awkward to manage.
Hmm OK fair eanough
ShatterPalm I agree with you on the 3ds, but in my opinion the Wii U gamepad is very comfortable.
I never said it wasn't comfortable, I said it was awkward. Trying to use the touchscreen on some games proves tricky when you have to balance the damn thing on one hand and draw with the other.
***** You confused who was saying what, I was saying it's fine and ShatterPalm was saying they hurt
Kinda funny that yahtzee was against made up swear words before writing two whole books using them
My main issue with this game was how utterly shit the boss fights were.
***** Excellent idea, that way, I won't be able to aim the Flashlight or Vacuum at all! Why not just turn the game off while I'm at it?
And in Mario+Rabbits Luigi is a cold and silent killer ready to snipe any living being who even slightly move within 100 m...
Drinking game: every homoerotic reference take a shot
Ragnarok is originally the event on Norse mythology that signifies the Apocalypse. It was then popularized as a sword by RPGs, the first one in my mind being FFIV, which had it as the best weapon for Cecil.
wait... he has the ability to like a game?
Not the first time he's liked something. In his earlier videos, he's stated that he enjoys Portal, and recently he's been giving praise to Dark Souls 1 and 2. So much with the Souls series that he's been mentioning them in other videos.
Have you seen his skyrim video?
you should watch his Psychonauts video
he also likes wind waker too
And his Portal review
I love the idea of Luigi just screaming in sheer terror when he and his brother get sucked into the Mushroom Kingdom.
the main thing i remember is that piano music, god it is so freaking catchy
This is the first of your videos i have watched. you sir just earned yourself a new subscriber.
He likes a lot of games. He just talks in a riddle-like way that the fans that have watched him for a while understand. The trick is to listen really hard to what he hints at.
I agree all of those games that are horror or mature shooting games can get tiring so it's nice to switch happy and positive games
Kind of surprised he didn't put this game on his Top 5 Best Games list for 2013.
I think he makes it a rule that he doesn't add games he reviews.
Oops, that's games he DID review...then, yeah, wtf? :/
This was his sixth favourite game
2:45 Yeah that's explained in the movie, You guys should watch it is really gooooooooooooooood
It's fine for me too. The only issue I have is when I have to switch to right-handed use and get cramps, but overall it's fine.
2:45 Silly Yahtzee! It wasn't a toilet accident!
It was a bathtub.
Man, Luigi does change a lot. He was the best jumper among the Mario Bros in all the other ones (Super Mario 64 DS for an example, still one of my favorites)
Yahtzee was right about that sequel thing. Breath of the wild 2
Nice to see there are other people in the world who can appreciate it despite not being like its predecessors.
Know what my fantasy swearing is? Literally the word "cussword." Like "Oh cusswords, I stubbed my toe!"
The fact he actually seems to somewhat like nintendo makes me happy inside.
I salute you, sir, for that oddly in character rebuttal.
For me it was the bit when King Boo (ooh, sorry, spoilers for the very obvious plot twist) moved in that photo. My reflexive muscle spasm practically flung my 3DS across the room.
I just beat Dark Moon and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Luigi is my favorite character ever; and you just summed it up why ^w^ *heart*
I totally agree with the stupid Toad missions, and the fact that you only get 5 upgrades before the money becomes useless. But it's cool to know that he agrees with Luigi being the better brother. He's the rational one, the poor guy left in the shadows while his bro gets all the limelight. Pretty much the only reason why I fully supported the "Year of Luigi."
which is why my fav charater of all time (luigi) got a death stare in mk8, HAHA TAKE THAT MARIO U ARENT CEWL ENOUF TO THE COOL CLUB
Same here. Makes me wish Luigi had more games to himself.
Me neither! I don't see what the problem is! I have big hands, but it isn't uncomfortable at all! I'll get a 3DSXL soon, though. I seriously prefer matte finishes on my consoles.
I like how you support Gamespot and credit it as a reliable source that has never been payed off
Played it with a friend when i was younger SOO nostalgic :D
Dang. now i have discovered your slapped on actually better titles for the episodes that would make no one find the video ever but which are substancially artiste as well.
Whoa. You got that right on the nose. I must've spent something like 3 hours watching Zero Punctuations that day. They're kind of addictive, aren't they?
You are on a DEFENSE chapter, surviving twelve turns against an unending charge of Laguz. Also, there are 8 members of the Greil Mercenaries on the other side. Since 90% of Micaih's group sucks, Ike will go around and cleave everyone with one hit if needed.
Try to survive that on maximum difficulty on RD. It took me a month aswell. A month of death.
he liked every paper mario game exept for the new stickerstar one
My wrists used to hurt a lot after prolonged use of the DSi yet I'm totally fine when using the 3ds which is bigger and heavier, for some weird reason :/
I can't. I can hold it when it's charging in the cradle, but I do get cramped. The XL is said to be more comfortable.
It's always refreshing to hear Yahtzee saying something POSITIVE about a game.
2:49 Someone should turn this into a shirt. I'd wear it.
I find it fascinating it used 'an' correctly.
Well this is apparently "Luigi's year" so we'll probably see a few more Luigi game reviews :P
Oh Luigi, you loveable lug, you. Every game you're where you're not P2, you are my favourite character
So I said to my higher English teacher "what do you mean I can't use 'Jam' (that's Yahtzee's second book for if you didn't know) in my writing exam the paper dosn't say i have to use the texts studied in class..."
