  • Just a simple video of me making fitted cupboards or alcove units as we call them in the uk.
    I also make floating shelve slightly thicker which I'm much happier with !

    Great video, I'm going more your way of now of building everything on site, a lot less stressful, spent years building cabinets in workshops and prefinishing before installing but it requires a lot of care and pre planning and all that takes time, I'd say what you are doing there is spot on to try make the best profit, customers are always looking for the cheapest option, good job though
    Tip, get a 23gauge headless pinner to glue and tack on the rails on your doors, saves time clamping them and waiting for glue to go off

    Also, when you put the wedges underneath to get it level, I couldn't tell what you did on the back side to hold it in place.

    Couple of questions. Would you recommend tracksaw over a jobsite tablesaw as the tool to have first? Also, is it easy to keep cuts perfectly square with the guide rail, looks like you're bang on with them all but I know experience counts for alot when it comes to the finish and I'm having to get my experience on the job!

      Yes I would personally go for a track saw first, both have there place but the track saw is deffo more versatile. With regards to using the saw it is experience really but just take your time and double check your cuts and you’ll be fine, they really are fairly user friendly if you have a basic understanding of how to use a skill saw 👍🏻

      @@LTWCarpentry yes from watching your time-lapse it just looks more useful as a first option. I've been building decks and garden structures alongside Handymannery and trying to refine my skills as I try and get into a new line of work. I'm doing an Ikea kitchen wall cupboard hack for a client next as that's what they've asked for but tbh thinking that the full build wouldn't take much more time (take a fair bit longer than you for sure!) and more satisfying for me! Hi mate, great video I'm about to start a project like this. I'm new to this and like the idea of your platform on the floor for the cabinet to sit on. I take it you need to plumb the platform so its level before you put the cabinet on top? If so how do you do this? I think I saw you putting in some shims at around 4:30, but once the platform is level how do you secure it at that position? At 5.30 you add the side pieces. Do they protrude 18mm to be flush with the door front? Have you designed the unit to give you the gave to add them into at the end? Trying to see how you have completed this step :)

    • @LTWCarpentry
      @LTWCarpentry  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes your correct other then I let the protrude 22mm to allow for the gap needs for the hinges to work properly, and yes I allow for this when making the unit,
      Say for instance my gap is 1000mm I make my unit 960mm to allow for the fillers to fit, I allow more if the walls are out of level so I can scribe this to suit the walls
