  • I purchased this 2021 Model 3 a year ago and want to share a few things you should know about. I'll cover: Entry methods, cards versus the Fob and App, FSD Full Self Drive and Smart Summons software in Australia, Accessories, Puncture repair, Charging at home and on road trips, Premium connectivity, Games controller and more.

Good review. Just for clarification though you don’t have FSD beta unlocked as nobody does in Australia yet. so at the 7 minute mark that was Autopilot which is still in beta on highways, isn’t quite ready for taking corners without being able to see over them at speed super consistently. I find it super useful in 99% of scenarios though. Great video just adding some clarification.

One MAJOR omission is that you’re really meant to use your phone as a key in day-to-day usage, but not by opening the app etc - you can setup your phone as a Bluetooth key through the app, and once done, your phone functions as a proximity key just as your keyfob does. Walk up to the car, open and drive away without having to touch your phone at all (and without needing a keyfob). I’m very surprised this was not mentioned, as it’s the primary way most people access the car.

Things that concern me about EV.
    1: lithium is an explosive
    2: range anxiety
    3: battery degradation/replacement
    4: resale value.
    5: black outs
6: government being able to shut or limit the car
7: time. The most valuable commodity in our very short life.

    • @sydneyg007
      @sydneyg007 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Good news is that these are the reasons that you should buy an electric car!
1: Petrol/Diesel is way more explosive than lithium (this is why EV's are 20 times less likely to catch fire). (also, the LFP batteries in Steve's Tesla vent rather than explode).
2: Range anxiety has nothing to do with the fuel source or range but the car's range estimates - I've never had range anxiety in our Mg zs ev but definitely have in my Diesel Landrover which has twice the range (but a less accurate range predictor).
3: Lithium batteries degrade a little over their life but not to a point of replacement in the car (other than a Nissan Leaf). Most will outlast the cars lifetime. Some newer batteries have over a 1.5 million km lifetime. A Diesel or petrol engine will have to be replaced before most ev batteries will need to be replaced.
4: Resale value in and EV stays higher than a fossil fuel car?
5: Can't fill your fossil fueled car in a blackout either. A lot of EV's have vehicle to load so can power your house in a blackout.
6: Government has no access to any EV - not sure what you mean there???
7: For general use you save a lot of time with an EV because you never have to go to a fuel station and waste ~15 minutes per week. Instead you spend about 10 seconds plugging the car in at home.

Center console accessories and tire kit should definitely be included. As should the charging cable, which they recently made optional.
Love my Model 3, but the dash rattle by the windshield can be annoying in certain cases. I cut a microfiber cloth to shove in there, and it clears it up 95%. Still gotta get Tesla to try to fix it again. Oh, and cleaning out the AC filters and spraying evap cleaner on it every 7 to 8 months is excessive. If I don't it starts to stink.
But the car is so great, these are just minor annoyances. Hope Tesla keeps improving!

The standard range car with the LFP battery is easily the best value car in the range. The access card is really not much good for anything than emergency access. My biggest issue with either the phone or the fob (I prefer the fob) is that the car unlock when you are in the general vacinity of the vehicle. Every other car I have had the car unlocks when you are RIGHT NEXT TO the door you are trying to unlock from. Eg, someone can't pull any door handle just because the fob or phone is somewhat close to the car. Its a complete oversight.

Great video Steve, all good points.
Things I'd like to see on newer Model 3's:
Windshield Heads Up Display - This comes standard on all Mazdas now which can even be a third of the price of a Tesla. It puts your speed, the speed limit and basic directions (and in cases where you're pulling out into a bit of a blind spot it will be indications of oncoming cars using the front radars) directly onto your windshield, right in front of you.
360 Degree Parking Camera - This is a game changer on any car. Tesla is filled with cameras and yet, you don't get a comprehensive 360 birds eye view of the car when parking. Again, Mazda includes this on it's lowest end models for a mere $1500 upgrade which is included in the 'vision package'. It uses two camera's located underneath the side mirrors and the standard front and back cameras.
Other than that, generally a great car. Might need to keep a squeegee in the back for the rear window though haha.

@@Rexjackson007 I think he mentioned that you can use a credit card size 'key', your mobile or a key fob. I hate the card system, similar to modern hotels etc and if I had to lend my car to a friend or family member then having to also lend my mobile too? Is this correct or am I missing something?

@@Rexjackson007 g’day, I agree you don’t have to have the key fob. I found that when using the app the car would not unlock on approach unless I opened and used the app. Which was awkward when carrying stuff. The fob overcame that for me. Thanks for watching

The automatic phone unlock works almost always, but requires that you pair your phone to the car using Bluetooth. Tesla set up the pairing when I picked up my car in Sydney in March 2020. The Bluetooth pairing also acivates the walk away door lock feature that beeps the horn to verify that the car is locked. Whenever Bluetooth fails, I either restart Bluetooth, use the app, or use the card key that I always keep in my pocket.

At least the battery is super cheap when needing replacement!

For a car that cost that much this is BS.I just bought the wife brand new Nissan Patrol for $85,000.00 last year, come with spare tyre & 2 key fobs,a functioning console all for zero dollars!
These cars are not saving the planet, like they say it might impress your friends who think you are saving the planet but do your homework.
I wont be giving up the internal combustion engine any time soon.
All the climate doomsday is just BS.
Follow the money & it all adds up!
Where I live in South West Victoria there is zero charging infrastructure for an EV.These EVs might be fine in large cities were all the charging infrastructure has been built & travel distance is low but why not just buy a small ecconomical internal combustion engine vehicle?

G’day, great feedback. You’ve clearly done your research so you will be aware that many countries have banned the sale of ICE cars after 2035, thats about when your Patrol will need replacing. You can buy secondhand but otherwise electric will be the only option. What will you do then? Cheers

You don't need a keyfob, just a mobile phone in your pocket.
Does your house have 240 volt power? I never use public charging unless on a road trip - just plug the mobile charging cable that came with the car into the power point in my carport. The mobile charger comes with 8 and 16 amp plugs, and you can get a third-party 32 amp plug (which will charge a 75 kwh battery in less than 12 hours - i.e. overnight). Cost me a few hundred dollars to get a 32 amp circuit installed in my carport. Of course if you drive more that 500 kms every day then lack of public chargers could be an issue, but that's not a common use case for a family sedan. And it would cost a small fortune for the diesel to run a Nissan Patrol (not to mention the scheduled servicing (the Tesla has none..)).
