I love my Si! Feels really nice, sucks after 70pmh(5th n 6th gear) doesn't really give that good feeling, really slows down, but w.e still love it and handles really great its surprising!(agree with more hp but torque makes up for most of it)
Mine was a loaded 1997 model. I drove it for 6 years. It was LOT's of fun and outside of the standard oil change and normal maintenance procedures had ZERO problems. I was VERY happy with the Civic Si, hard to beat !!
looks? yes the 8th gen is better, but the 9th gen is a better built si imo. it has much more usable torque for city driving and a all around better engine. the 9k tach was nice but thats all i miss on the 8th gen. the bolt ons are almost the same, the 9th gen just needs more time so people can familiarize themselves with the new motor and setup.
Purchase a new Honda Civic Del Sol Si in 1993 automatic and still drive it daily! Yes, a host of repairs required, however, same engine and transmission. I still get compliments! Loved your review, perhaps I ought to treat myself.

Had my 2012 for 2 years and some change now got it at 49,000 miles and now clocked at 87,000 miles and still running strong. Only major issue I’ve had was getting my CMC changed at 62,000 miles, since then no problems. Just regular oil changes. Once I get to 120K I’ll be upgrading to a Stage 1 clutch. Any owners out there reached over 150K yet? I plan on riding this Si til the wheels fall off lol. Just an update if anyone is curious. I finally reached 200,000 miles on my Si and it’s running strong as ever. Replaced my clutch with OEM clutch @ 118,000 miles and replaced my alternator @ 160ish,000 miles other than that she still health and reliable.
@@GhadSpeed :) I know right? I thought of getting it orange but even most ladies prefer it white as I am told by them. I managed to haggle the price down to $13,500 at least. Plus navigation, 2 original keys with an extra copy.

I test drove the Subaru BRZ a couple weeks ago and it was awesome. It's like a higher quality FRS. Rear wheel drive 2.0L monster that hits a 7400 redline just like our prelude's. It really blew the prelude away in every category, the interior was the nicest I've seen next to a Aston Martin DB9. Honda just doesn't care for the "tuner" community anymore. They discontinued the NSX, S2000, and Prelude, then to top it all off they shit some CRZ's and 4 door Civic Si's out of their factory.
i actually always liked high torque at low revs. That's what puts you ahead of the pack, i remember the Toyota Celica had to be floored and be screaming to get any torque.
If anyone is questioning how this thing drives..... you haven't driven one. The first time i got in one it felt amassing! The car is so perfect in every where it's worth every single penny! To bad i still can't afford one! Yet....
I know a lot of people won't agree with me, but I think Honda got it right with the EP3 Si. It doesn't have straight line speed, and it has skinny tires that can break away from you. There is some body roll, but that's all part of it. It won't win awards on the Nuremburgring, and won't seem like the best car if you are a number crunching accountant. But through the twisties you feel involved in the driving. It's a pleasure. The fun factor starts so early. And then it gets 26mpg when driven hard.
I don't think I would WANT it to stand out in a crowd too much. If I want "ground effects," I can buy them later. This could be something of a sleeper as it is now. The narrator is right... maybe it could use a bit more horsepower and be even better at its job... taking rivals off guard when the time is right. You can buy that later too. My daughter bought her 2012 Civic (base engine) exactly one year ago. She still can't believe it's as good as it is.
AWESOME car and a great review although realistically it probably doesn't need any more horse power for American roads. Although... I'd love to see Honda release an AWD version with around 300hp and call it the Honda Civic Si-X coupe. It'd be a proper WRC car that I'd buy on day 1!
Hate it or love it, good cars don't need to change. Look at the Porsche Carrera, Aston Martin's.This has evolved, not too much but just right. Honestly the person who buys a regular Civic doesn't want power, they want it to be quiet, reliable, roomy, good on gas and this car does it. And the Si is a lot better, with the more displacement Si owners will start to know what torque is. IMO it's a better car overall but I'm not sure if it's a better Honda Civic.
I put on a hitch and pull my 3 rail dirt bike trailer with a crf450 a 700 raptor and a 5 gallon can of race gas and the torque pulls right off the bottom with minimal clutch.. engine is super powerful. Rush hour creeping along in and out of the clutch you need not touch the gas to keep it running.
lol everyone mad saying 8th gen is better. It may look better. but I ran runs all night with this 8th gen which also had mods and although it was close, i still won every run. So i don't care that i don't have a sweet spoiler or w/e rims are nicer interior is nicer and runs better. And the motor has twice as much potential when modded.
I see Honda is taking notes. That HP numbers seems weak, but Honda always sandbags the numbers. Having multiple hondas and loving every variations, those who are quick to say Honda has "fallen off" have no clue what Honda has always done going back several decades.
The Honda Si is for people who just want a little more kick out of their little Honda. I personally enjoy it because it gives me the power I need when driving not for racing and it's great on gas mileage. I don't compare it to other vehicles because in all honesty it's not a real sports car.
I think the one blatantly clear argument to made made in defense of this car is price. With an entry price of under $23,000, you do get a lot of car for your money. More powerful engine than you'd find in most if not every other other car costing that much, and the (somewhat tarnished) Honda reputation for reliability.
I looked in the 2012 SI accesories and there definitely is a front lip, rear lip and side skirt options for the SI so idk why the reviewer said there wasn't any options to make the SI look "meaner"
Everybody says they made great civics si in the past, but I haven´t drive any of them so I don´t know what I may be missing. But I do like the shape of this model. No need to hate it, just keep your s2000. Civics are not the only Honda cars. :P But thanks for replying.
Honda as of now has grown up to a much better company. If they still made the cars like the 90's would have put them out of business. Times has change so they would have to change with it. If you don't change you will be left behind. The majority of the buyers out there are looking for refinement not something that feels old. If you've opened your mind and you can clearly see that newer is always better; this is why they change. If you don't change you cannot compete in the market.
So to those who still haven't bought the civic and civic si, then this for you. "Honda has supposedly sent a letter to its dealers encouraging them to quickly sell down their current inventory of 2012 Civics, given that the arrival of 2013 model will make them difficult to sell." To those who already have their civic, you can get the upgrades at your respective dealers Probably at the end of december. With a price though.
this guy is damn good at reviewing vehicles or at least this si. He has some really good points about the si.. favorite one is the one about the market not having enough competitors from this car . love honda ! 07si coupe ftw,
@PurpleRaam honestly i dont think they are fucking it up , the si is constantly improving. hondas doing big things. appreciate past appearance and be open mind for new innovation
I personally thought the two best things about the Si were how light it was, and how much the engine screamed when it hit VTEC and went to over 8000rpm. Those things made it such an exciting little car to drive, even if it wasn't really that fast. Now that they've gone and fucked those attributes up I can't say I even care about the Si anymore.
I went to buy one last Tuesday, cus I had a 2012 civic and hated it, I liked it, it wasnt bad, technology was better, but I went back to the dealership that I originally bought my civic from cus they didn't have a 2012 si but they had an 07 so I tried out that gen after driving one like 7 months ago and liked it waaaaaay better than the 2012, it just felt more ballsier, felt quicker off the line, louder in the cabin IMO, felt like more like a performance car IMO, and looks better
@OJ Simpson U do know that rice is different from the import scene right? I'm a domestic guy first and foremost but I'm not ashamed to say that the fast and the furious started my automotive enthusiasm and now I'm an ASE Certified tech all because of it. "Rice" can b domestics or imports. Rice is just over doing a car. Like the people who put gobs of chrome on a car or those damn autozone vents. That's rice; not just imports.
3:35, they shouldn't make the exhaust any louder. The Civic Si should be a quiet fast car. If people want it to be louder they should be able to opt for a louder exhaust from the factory.
i deff wouldnt buy a frs/brz for the interior, I thought it was pretty cheap actually when I test drove it. I see where its going with the tuner aspect all day long. Yup I agree, honda has taken a dump on the people that are now buying the accords and mini vans. They dont wana think about future generations, you start em young and grow them into those 4 door family cars later as loyal Honda fans.
@hondaspeed152 but the focus svt also outhandles the si in all aspects in comparisons. like I said I do respect the si for what they have done with it, it is a great car for what they are working with. You can not be biased though and give credit where credit is due and appreciate a car no matter what logo is on it. I had an svt in 2003 and it was my favorite car (I've had a 06mustang, 07wrx, 95 prelude si w/jdm h22a red top n.a modded to the max)so I love all cars and each one has their perks.
So much hate on Honda... Guys, I recommend you to think before you hate. Know the car's purpose. Drive it before criticizing it. And how much you hate, criticize, curse on Honda, it will SELL and make some people smile. Although I do agree that some drivers do destroy the car's reputation, but don't generalize the car and driver as one...
my thoughts on the header is honda saying that they put the best header made into the car so most tunners dont waste money on aftermarket headers..and there is reason honda made it 7200 rpms rev max and not to just piss off the high rev lovers..we will find out later when the car comes out and mods are made
Sorry, but tuners will NOT get a lot out of this package because of the cast exhaust manifold. A race header was one of the best mods for Honda engines and because this new manifold is permanently joined with the head, one would have to replace the entire head, which is unlikely.
@rushour13 I really agree with you on that. I've always been a fan of civics, but one time as I went to a car show and sat in one. My face was shocked. It was really like a space ship, even my german friend was like " Ha! This looks pretty futuristic... nahh... i like the bmw's more.. " haha..
Seen this car a ton of times in the blackhawk district... it ain't as ugly as i thought seeing it in person and got to drive it; it ain't an awful car but I'd say it's just a straight up Daily Driver car it takes out all the fun of the previous gens...
The 2006 Si with Summer trim was the best so far. The mirrors since have been kinda cheezy...like antenna instead of part of the door. But for the 2012....the rear looks something awful. They could have done better. I do enjoy that they put some more horsepower under the hood, though!
Look at that new redesign. They finally redesigned the Honda Civic. There's something seriously wrong when the 2011 Honda Civic looks exactly the same as a 2006 Honda Civic.
I like them, at first I was kinda iffy about the way the back come down, but once u see the lowered, they look awesome, my buddy has one and its nice. Besides can't complain with the k24, gobs of trq is always great. The dash is cool as well, I like how it show's u wen ur hittn vtec. The powerband is basically a 45 degree line all the way across, if trq and hp are close in numbers, u got a good car, and this has both.
Alright Honda is making progress they got some decent torque in a civic. Really they shouldve kept the prelude. It was a great car that performance wise could compete with many of the cars still coming out today (10 +years later!!!)
@ReTr093 I read your comment before you deleted it, but I disagree with you. First of all, I'm not talking about a car that's as extreme as your EVO was( 9 second car.) I think an NA engine can last much longer than a big turbo, even if it's a higly tuned one. Instead of 201 hp, why didn't Honda make, let's say 230-240 hp ( crank hp not at the wheels.) That's not too extreme.
@MBP6705 agreed. the s2k was a very nice and affordable car and if they do bring it back (hopefully) i hope they do with a lil more leg/head room. i was very upset to find out i couldnt comfortably fit in the previous model...
people get me mad because they claim the 9th gen civic looks exactly like the 8th gen but yet they say its ugly. The car isnt ugly people its just not completely redesigned
Very fair review. I agree with the horsepower numbers. I thought the K24 should produce higher numbers. My 2006 RSX-S K20Z1 produces 210hp while being 4 liters smaller. Also, I didn't like the ridges on the rear and side of this Civic. The former generation Civic Si had better styling. IDK, Honda needs get back to the CRX, Integra, EM1 Civic vibe. They may lose buyers to Mazda, Scion; etc. if they keep this up because the 2013 Civic,Accord are lame and the CR-Z is dreadful. Honda lost their way.
Ugh Honda, you are straying too far from what made the SI and Type R lineup so fun in the first place. Cheap, high revving, no frills and lightweight. Cant even put a racing header on this thing. Go back to the RSX start from there
Honda products on the Acura side were recently criticized for its "new" design approach! I give Honda accolades for listening... but the reiteration of this SI looks like the car it replaced, the Acura RSX ! Gracien69

I know the 2014+ has it!
It doesn’t have that…
I really do wish Honda would bring the hatchback style back to America.
Sorry, but tuners will NOT get a lot out of this package because of the cast exhaust manifold. A race header was one of the best mods for Honda engines and because this new manifold is permanently joined with the head, one would have to replace the entire head, which is unlikely.
Im talking about weather conditions. I would LOVE to see a BRZ/FR-S/86 drive in Canada's shitty snowy wet conditions.
Bring back a Civic like the EK9 Type R, that was an epic Civic
Loving the new 2014 look gonna pick one up in a few months
somewhere in a dark corner, a honda designer is weeping
Look at that new redesign. They finally redesigned the Honda Civic after like what? 10 years?
@rushour13 I really agree with you on that. I've always been a fan of civics, but one time as I went to a car show and sat in one. My face was shocked. It was really like a space ship, even my german friend was like " Ha! This looks pretty futuristic... nahh... i like the bmw's more.. " haha..
i cant stop laughing at the fact that they actually have a light flash when vtec kicks in.
The powerband is basically a 45 degree line all the way across, if trq and hp are close in numbers, u got a good car, and this has both.
sticking with my 8th gen si sedan
Horikoshi's response explains how Honda was able to take one of the best rides out there and completely f**k it up.
my ep3 type-r said: fuck, that's a shame!! that cannot be my grandchild!!
this guy is a way better reviewer than casey mays from cars.com
Shot this in Maryland. Grew up a half hour from here
They should keep bumping the specs but bring back the look of the eg's or ek's.
I'd love a 2013 "EM1" style civic....
Alright Honda is making progress they got some decent torque in a civic. Really they shouldve kept the prelude. It was a great car that performance wise could compete with many of the cars still coming out today (10 +years later!!!)
@ReTr093
I read your comment before you deleted it, but I disagree with you. First of all, I'm not talking about a car that's as extreme as your EVO was( 9 second car.) I think an NA engine can last much longer than a big turbo, even if it's a higly tuned one. Instead of 201 hp, why didn't Honda make, let's say 230-240 hp ( crank hp not at the wheels.) That's not too extreme.
love the duckbill-looking decklid.
@MBP6705 agreed. the s2k was a very nice and affordable car and if they do bring it back (hopefully) i hope they do with a lil more leg/head room. i was very upset to find out i couldnt comfortably fit in the previous model...
Nothing beats a newer chassis. I love my EG and all but it will never handle like the new models due to its age.
people get me mad because they claim the 9th gen civic looks exactly like the 8th gen but yet they say its ugly. The car isnt ugly people its just not completely redesigned
I call it a Honda Si... meaning sports illustrated. Because its sportiness is illustrated.
Honda lost their way.
yeah hated it when the 06 came out the look freaked me out but i liked it over time i dont see that happening again with this one...
Only way we'll get more HP like the reviewer wants is if US lightens up the emissions laws so that a Type R could be sold here.
I agree need more horse power, modern car are packing way more power , the only advantage this car have is being lightweight
